Is there already some progress on integrating our core posts into the help/on-topic? Such things like "software ./. services" etc, to clearly show what we do not want here? I miss this information in the help center (wanted to link there for Has the ability to self publish on the Internet definitely shaped any software?, but it makes no sense if the info is not there.

If there are answers to closed questions do they still get reputation (and should it be like that?)
I'm asking because I think that bad questions get answers than we reward them, which I think is a bad idea. The answerer should be the first to decide if this question is bad and then not answer it.
2
A question is not inherently bad just because it is closed.
That's why downvotes and close votes are separate.
@FEichinger Yes, I know. But most likely a question thats get closed and stays closed is bad.
Like this one that just got asked: softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/questions/2288/memory-card-recovery-software-with‌out-format-memory-card
isn't Mint.com a webapp?
@Braiam I think so
13:17
The linked question is clearly weak and its closure was obvious. Still it was there long enough to gain two answers.
@Braiam First look: Should be reopened.
@AngeloNeuschitzer Yes and yes. Even if the question is bad, the answer might still be good. Only for deleted answers not only there's no new rep, but "recent" rep is even removed.

Q: Alternative to RhodeCode

guettliUp to now we have been using an old open source version of RhodeCode. We use it to manage our git repos. The new version of RhodeCode has a new license, which is ... I don't know what to call it. It is open source, but only limited to 20 users. I don't get it. We are less then 20 users, but a ...

I just reopened it - it's not too broad any more. I can see the duplicate, though.
If people want to vote for it to be closed as a dupe, go for it.
Just wait the OP's answer about the possible duplicate
And I can see your reasoning.
@DanteTheEgregore Go ahead and vote for it to be closed as a dupe of that - your vote was the fifth vote on top of four too broad votes, and thus it got closed as too broad.
Sure were a whole bunch of new questions of questionable quality this morning (if you're in North American anyways)
(or South America for that matter)
That's how it is every morning :P
16:06
yesterday seemed a lot slower
yeah.
Every morning I wake up and think, "HALP!"
Then it slows down and I can actually catch up with what's happening
Hiya @Seth
Close votes have just been flying today
Oh hi :-)
Our activity makes me feel like we're a graduated site :P
@Undo I did have a question for someone like you (i.e. with more moderating/review queue experience)... For First Post review queue, if someone else has already commented do I just say 'fine' (which it isn't) or should I also comment and say 'done' (but it has already been commented on)
(hopefully that's clear)
16:08
Can't cast another vote on it yet.
@DanteTheEgregore Oh, huh. Well, I guess we'll have to let others do it.
Must be something like you can only vote once each way.
@NickWilde I tend to always vote on anything in the FP queue, although that's just me. That's enough to unlock the done button.
ah yes that makes sense as a good way
thanks
you're welcome.
And be generous with flags on low quality answers, too.
Do you have to select the done button? I always just say no action needed if someone already commented
no action needed works too, yeah.
But voting is always, always, always good.
16:11
okay - I've always been a low flag user - going on the basis of comment and only flag if it has been 24 hours+ with no update
@NickWilde Which is a decent way to do it, as long as you can keep track of it.
normally it is resolved by then so I figure some people are going to be upset by being flagged and why upset em
not that I'm worried about making people annoyed with me more that I don't want the first experience to be aaah I got a flag this community is nasty I'll go somewhere else
which they shouldn't say but some people may
@NickWilde Just so you know, the flagged user can't see flags on their posts.
I was just going to say...
Only mods and in some cases 2k users.
16:14
oh really... huh I didn't know I thought they could
I'm sure I've seen some questions saying flag(NUM)
oh but thats only been here I think which would mean nothing since I've been the equivalent of a 2k user on a graduated site
in that case I'll save myself the going back sometimes and just flag em
yeah, that's a good way ;)
What happens if the question asks for suggestions for a web app or windows software? Tag them as both?
@aman207 IMO yes.
Alrighty
16:47
@Undo Ploink! I am one of the others, yeah. Not to confuse with the Others (Night Watch), though :)
@Undo Yeah! "I see dead people..." #D

Q: IRC client for very popular channels

3venticI find myself watching streams with huge amounts of viewers (30k+) and joining the chat makes my IRC client (Hexchat) freeze and/or crash at times as it tries to list all the users and keep up with joins and leaves. I'm looking for a client that Requirements supports Windows 7 and 8 can cope w...

My first crack at a question..
hmm.
@3ventic tried xchat?
Seems to do just about everything you want.
pretty sure xchat became hexchat which is what I'm using now
> HexChat is an IRC client based on XChat, but unlike XChat it’s completely free for both Windows and Unix-like systems.
that's silly, since xchat has always been free for both windows and unix systems.
idk about that
never had xchat freeze on me though, but i'm not much of an irc guy.
21:14
I just saw that xchat's last update was in 2010 and hexchat's was way more recently so I chose that one
It's not every day you run into a channel with 30 000 users speaking
wow. nope.
well, two 30k-user channels actually
I can read the channel fine by tail ing my bouncer logs, but being on the channel is proving difficult
21:47
Hello! Would this site be willing to take a software recommendation from Writers? We currently have it on hold, but I think it would fit here.

Q: What is the best way to make iPad-mini friendly PDF file?

nickchengI have some content and want to publish them periodically in iPad(and mini) optimized PDF format. The content has little images and some codes. The image layout is simple, but the programming code syntax highlight maybe a problem. Hacker Monthly has an iPad-optimized version. I want to achieve ...

22:16
Anyone? If I don't hear anything to the contrary, will send it over.
@NeilFein I commented on the question
it's not bad but a bit incomplete
Okay, thanks. If the user edits with that in mind, will send it over.
23:12
@Gilles You say that you've been through account deletion and undeletion.
@Gilles How did you get your account undeleted?
@gparyani dafuq?
Oh, are you confusing me with kalina?
I think we're both feeling insulted now
AFAIK she deleted her account. Then she decided she wanted it back and whined loudly until the SE devs changed ownership of her old posts to her new account.
she might word it differently of course
@Gilles Oh wait, I think that I confused you with another user, bit it was not kalina.
I know that there was a guy who was nominated to become a mod pro tem who said he's "been through account deletion and undeletion". Who was that?

Q: Nominate temporary moderators for this site here

gparyani Update: At least some of the provisional moderators have now been appointed. For more information, see here: Pro Tem Moderators... Activate How do you become a provisional moderator for this site? Soon after the site launches into "public beta," the Community Team will appoint provisional m...

@gparyani that's kalina aka Flyk
23:18
@Gilles She was never nominated. I'm telling you, it wasn't her!
@gparyani and I'm telling you, it is her, but she goes by Flyk on some sites including SR
her nomination is on that thread, you can't see it because she deleted it
@Gilles Post a screenshot, you're a mod
@Gilles Or better yet, undelete it just for a moment.
^^^^ that's her profile on SR
23:21
@Gilles ...and then delete it again after 5 minutes or so.
and here's her profile on Gaming:
@gparyani I don't like to delete a self-deleted post, it's her choice
@Gilles Yes, but I'd like to see her answer, and also how exactly she got her account undeleted
@Gilles Then post a screenshot and then remove it after a couple of minutes
of course it might still be in a cache somewhere (Google, webarchive...). That's a risk she takes.
@gparyani she didn't specify
@Gilles I would like to talk to her
@gparyani I haven't seen her recently, but she's usually active in chat
Gaming is her most active site so you could try the chat there
23:23
She's keeping it low recently.
@Gilles I'm being forced to delete my account for reasons I don't want to disclose, and I'd like to undelete it after a while, so I want to know how she undeleted it
Hasn't really been active in chat in a while either.
@gparyani you should contact SE then
@gparyani The tl;dr is, she contacted SE about it.
That said, I'm not sure what you intend to achieve by deleting and subsequently undeleting your account.
@Gilles They wouldn't tell me; they'll just say that it's irreversible over and over again
23:24
Contacting SE about the situation is probably the best idea and something you'll end up having to do anyway.
That's a lot of work for SE, you will lose a lot of data and they can always say "No.".
Frankly, if you already go into this planning to get your account undeleted, you're on the wrong path right there.
@Gilles That's why I want to talk to her :|
@gparyani keep in mind that everything you write here is indexed by Google (with crappy SEO, but still)

Q: I probably shouldn't have deleted my account, how can I get it back?

Tim PostI was pretty upset the other day, and requested that my account be removed. I filled out the form and didn't cancel the deletion within 24 hours of it being scheduled. Now, I'm a little sick that I've done this, I acted in what I feel is haste, and I'd like to get my account back. I read in a f...

@Gilles Did she request undeletion before the 24-hour grace period was put into effect?
@3ventic Thanks for the info.
23:28
@gparyani no, the grace period didn't exist at the time, it's fairly new
@Gilles I said before
Her account deletion was way back last year, her account was reinstated 7 months ago.
Now, for the love of God, can we drop this subject? It's not constructive, and the more this goes on, the more I suspect a very weird motivation on your end.
I'm pretty sure that meta post is all there is to this.
