What backup? ;) — Tony Stark 19 mins ago

@TheCleaner Doesn't everyone already know this?

@TheCleaner Dude
That article gets about 1k hits per week
That and my "NPS on 2008 R2 hates wildcard certs" article
That one gets like 500ish
It's more than all other article's that I've written combined

All right, I'm out of here. See you all in two weeks.

@TheCleaner SATAN WORSHIPPER
@MichaelHampton <3

@MDMarra Let's bring Active Directory to the Godless Domainless Heathens!

7:09 PM

Sorry, I'm very new to this, could you explain why it is a bad idea? Security? Bugs? Unsupported? — eselk 44 secs ago

7:11 PM
@voretaq7 I have a rack of severs. Halp?

._____.

truncate table wp_comments; Too easy...

@Travis context?

@Jacob I'm deleting all of the comments on my wordpress blog. There is apparently an exploit in the latest version that allows comments to be autoapproved and posted

@Travis linky?

7:16 PM
@Jacob To my blog?

@Travis yep

@Travis don't do it, he just wants to comment-spam you!

@voretaq7 It's ok now. I've completely disabled the comment parts of WP

@Travis and the internet is a better place.

@voretaq7 Now I need to figure out this bug and spam my links to all the other WP blogs :)

7:18 PM
@Travis The second one is for commissions I hope?

@Jacob Psshaaaw....that's my wardrobe wish list!
@Jacob I need to update it though. Haven't done it in a few weeks

SRSLY?

No lol...it's for commissions
Awesome...got 2 downvotes on my XP downgrade answer....with no comments left as to why

@Travis It's 3:30, and I'm ready to go home so :P

@Jacob Me 2! 30 more minutes

7:23 PM
@Travis "users are under no obligation to leave comments" blah blah blah

@voretaq7 I know...but it would be nice to know where I'm wrong :)
@voretaq7 Maybe I should link back the quotes for the Q&A I give?

@Travis 30 minutes? I should have another hour, but I think I'll chalk that to the Weekend time I'll spend here

I come and go when I feel like it but I get close to 40 hours..

@Travis would be helpful

I wonder if Microsoft will kill off their XP activation servers when XP is fully EOL.

7:26 PM
@Zoredache They might aswell, but people will bitch

@Jacob I know they will, but that would be something Microsoft could do to force people to upgrade...

@Zoredache Bah, with all the WGA blockers out there?

@MDMarra I linked it because Matt asked me to link my blog right after we were all talking about .local domains.. :)

I'm generally one of the top 3-4 results for .local in google
Considering I've done no SEO, have no ads, and generally don't take that blog seriously, I have no idea how that happened

@voretaq7 Added...now I have to find the backup the 3rd one...

7:32 PM
Um, so. Mechanical Keyboard are a) loud and b) heavy.

@MDMarra Are you urinated yet?

100%
Got home about half an hour ago

Into a standard excrement containment device?

@tombull89 Some of us never outgrew it and are still assholes. Like me.

@ScottPack yup
all is well

7:34 PM
@MDMarra I recommend evacuation before leaving for home.

I did
but then I stopped and got lunch
and a soda
and already had a bottle of water in my car
I drink a lot of fluids, which is unfortunate when you get stuck on the highway for 2.5 hours

McDonalds large sweet tea, eh?

nope
Wegman's diet cola

?
wegman's or the soda?

7:37 PM
@MDMarra All of the above

Ain't nothing wrong with Wegman's for a quick lunch, fools!

Diet soda.
I have no beef with Wegman's.

0 cal, son
zero
zero cal, but contains caffeine

100% fewer calories, 500% higher risk of cancer. WIN!

@MDMarra Aspartame is used to embalm bodies.
'nuff said

7:39 PM
So was honey.
Rogaine was a blood pressure medication.

@ScottPack the shoe of a user?
@MDMarra 0 cal, 0 sugars, but still convinces your body it's getting sugar (so you get an insulin dump) -- great way to wind up diabetic.

pee on the side of the highway...facing traffic...like a real man.

You guys are acting like I drink 10 gallons of the shit a week!
I have, maybe, one diet soda (or any soda) every two weeks.

7:44 PM
It's...it's staring into my soul.

It's so weird to see Brimley before he went bald.

So I did a yum install nagios-plugins on my "new" mailserver like 3 hours ago and forgot about it

@NathanC and it's still going?

@NathanC GNU screen
FTW

7:46 PM
screen: Because even the GNU/Freetards can't get it wrong ALL the time.

@voretaq7 Here's some more impotent ranting you might like. linuxhaters.blogspot.com

@ScottPack Now now, I don't hate linux
I mean I think it's a pretty shitty kernel all things considered, but it's functional
the distributions on top of it are utter shite though

@voretaq7 Yep...the machine's frozen. Like, completely frozen.

@NathanC <APPLAUSE>

But still responding to ping...

7:49 PM
@NathanC <LOUDER APPLAUSE>

@NathanC BETTER HAVE IPMI

@NathanC Sounds like my FreeBSD machine last night.

I start taking Adderall tomorrow O_O

@Jacob Not responsive...I went to the server room and this was showing in the console: imgur.com/XitgYdN

7:51 PM
That's @NathanC trying to recover his box.

Also, # yum install nagios-plugins

^C
^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C

damn it.. whats the markdown syntax for code blocks

@NathanC Niice, that's locked up nice and tight.

This isn't the first time it's happened either..

@NathanC you misspelled "^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C++^C+‌+".

7:52 PM
@MattBear 4 spaces

And I have no clue why it's happening

@voretaq7 ty

who keeps flagging shit in here?

@voretaq7 how do I do a large block?

7:53 PM
click the "fixed font" button that shows up when you have line breaks

@MattBear keep indenting :)

@voretaq7 haha

Losers.

7:54 PM
"bump into" anyone else in a bathroom that can further your agenda lately?

@Cole Jimmy Tatro is a funny mother fucker.
@MDMarra well that's ONE way to get purchasing approvals!

They diagnosed me with ADD and OCPD

@MDMarra Well, I do have a wide stance

I ended up posting a question on it...I'm at a loss to why it's occuring.

Q: CentOS 6.4 lock-up ...no explanation

Nathan CI have a CentOS 6.4 server on an oldish box (HP ProLiant ML350 G4) that I've recently installed on and it's been up less than 24 hours. It has 6 146 GB 10k SCSI drives in RAID 1+0 that are also brand new and no signs of drive failure or any type of hardware notices. Yet, randomly this will happen...

@ewwhite Is that like @JoelESalas's power stance?

7:57 PM
@NathanC Use 6.5?

@NathanC WHAP Inline your error messages in a code block! :P
(it makes them searchable)
and don't you have enough rep to upload images?

@voretaq7 there's no erros to wrap... :P
*errors

@ChrisS I had someone steal one snow tire out of my truck once :( WTF do you do with one snow tire?

Unless you want me to type them out manually since they're in a console window (I had to take a picture of the screen ><)

@NathanC It's all about the FIRMWARE....

7:59 PM
Of the controller? It's an ancient smartarray ...640 i think.

SmartArray 641
Did you update the firmware?
and post the output of df -h

Well, once I go reboot the machine I can update it :P

@NathanC you have a screenshot full of them
(which I tucked into your post. That'll be $5)

Oh wait... I have an HP ML350 G4 right here.

@ewwhite and YOU -- are you competing with @WesleyDavid for the prize on "Straight people say the gayest things!"?
(because I gotta tell ya, @WesleyDavid really has that prize wrapped up with a tinkerbell bow and body glitter)

      physicaldrive 1:4   (port 1:id 4 , Parallel SCSI, 146.8 GB, OK)

gah...networking didn't come back up...

@voretaq7 Well I was about to go eat some weiners, but now I'm reconsidering that course.

8:04 PM
@MattBear You tripped my AV

@MattBear "Refer to the sed manpage" :-)
@Jacob is that like sinking your battleship? :)

@ewwhite thanks for the initial help ...i'll need to resume this in the morning when i get back to the office.

@NathanC Oh, one more thing... any cache on that controller?

@Jacob haha yeah, most of the code is cut out of the middle, as is its harmless

@ewwhite Nope.

8:05 PM
@NathanC psssh... slow disks.

@voretaq7 Which definition of that phrase are we operating with here?

@voretaq7 have been :p I think i have it right, but the regEx might not be

@NathanC firmware

@ewwhite We have the exact server that's running our old backup server (win 2k3) and it's worked flawlessly forever
probably same firmware version and everything. but i'll give that a try in the morning. thanks again!

it's EL6.4... I'll need some details. Could be a cciss bug... you could play with scheduler things... A few options

8:07 PM
^Proof

okie. i'll see what i can pull out in the morning.

@Jacob "Yes."

@ChrisS ouch

@NathanC "Straight People Say the Gayest Things" candidate? Ruling from the judges, @voretaq7?

@WesleyDavid too ambiguous, straight people pull out all the time (much to the pontiff's dismay)
and how the hell come I'm the judge - don't we have a gayer gay man?!

8:09 PM
@ChrisS That's a @WesleyDavid level fail right there!
@voretaq7 @TomO'Connor ?

@ChrisS Oh Microsoft

@voretaq7 I'm a gayer straight man, so maybe I should be judging. The problem is, I'm oblivious to it until someone points it out. @TomO'Connor - can you be the judge for our new sitcom "Straight People Say the Gayest Things"?

@voretaq7 it was a Joomla vulnerability, I know why/how it happened, and where it came from

We really need a panel... what are those "Queer Eye" guys doing these days?

Gonna puke - need to eat. Burbs.

8:14 PM

I actually answered a question today

Q: How can I reinstall the WinRM service on WS2012?

Darrel MillerWhatever winrm command I issue I get, The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request ... Error number: -2144108526 0x80338012 I checked all the usual suspects. The service is running. All updates have been applied. I would like to uninstall the WinRM service and...

@Cole Do you want a cookie?

Sure

@Jacob That's what the scary man in the van said too.

Q: DNS record not added when server joins domain

Lorin HochsteinI've brought up three Windows 2012 VMs inside of an OpenStack cloud. I configured the first one as a domain controller, named dc (domain: internal.lorinhochstein.org), and then I joined the other two instances (server-1, server-2) to the domain. When the first instance joined the domain, a DNS "...

@MDMarra - you should help him...he named his domain correctly. :)

8:22 PM
heh
after I get off this call I'll click through

@Adrian Don't buy SANs from people in VANS. HA!

@Jacob or accept gifts either. I guess that kind of thing is called a kickback. Who knew?

@Adrian Senators, Representitives?

@Adrian Anybody who went through the purchasing training in a large government bureaucracy?

@Jacob Nah, they got more colorful euphemisms for their hanky-panky.
@freiheit Unless it's the bureaucracy is located in Illinois, and then it's called a 'salary'.

8:28 PM
@Adrian Example Rod howthefackdoyoupronoucethat

@Jacob Bluh-Goya-Vitch.

@Adrian Bluh-Goya- Bitch .

@Jacob Funny thing is, I parsed that as Senators and Repetitives. Which, of course, they pretty much are.

@TheCleaner no clue

Fucking idiot on my team on Halo

8:31 PM
@Jacob or Somebody's Now, I imagine. The Chicago is so screwed up that you really do end up with a very skewed sense of what's okay and what's not.

@Cole You have Xbox?

Yes
I jumped in the area and he sprints and jumps into me - knocks me off the edge

@Cole I should pop in another load of laundry and play some Lego Star Wars.

@Cole Want to send me over your gamertag and we can play later?

@Adrian Get to making the next RoR based mega-site.

8:32 PM
It's illuminatte
for anyone who wants to add me on XBL

@Cole Mine's really bad

also the same for Steam
wweee Promoted to SR41

@Cole sent, I'm heading out at 5

@WesleyDavid Working on it. Needed to take a break and explain the algorithm to my rubber ducky.

@Jacob haha!
My avatar looks a bit to creepily like me

8:34 PM
@Cole Sssh, I need to change it

Went to Archie McPhee's the other day and bought a devil duckie

@Adrian See, you should have joined the SF challenge a few years ago so I could send you a premium duck. =)

@WesleyDavid Yeah, I think I was joining SF just as that was finishing up.

Rubber ducky, you're the one.
You make the coding lots of fun.
Rubber ducky, why do you make all our developers look so bad by comparison?

@voretaq7 You can squeeze Mr. Ducky and not get your ass canned by HR.

8:37 PM
@WesleyDavid The key is doing it just lasciviously enough to get put on administrative leave...

I touched the programmers in a decidedly non-sexual way!
How was I supposed to know they were kinky erotic asphyxiation freaks?!

O_O

@Cole Oh my. You think that's bad? Wait until you move here.

@voretaq7 I was hugging him around the neck with my hands. It's common where I'm from.

@Adrian I will need to brace myself

8:39 PM
@Cole Yes. And learn to live without sleeping for the first year.

Good thing I got my adderall prescription and a sleep aid

@Adrian Oh are we talking Amazon again? Do you know @Twirrim on Twitter / #LOPSA?

I probably sleep ~3-4 hours total a night

@WesleyDavid No, I didn't. Thanks for the pointer though.
@WesleyDavid Amazon isn't all that bad. It's just very performance-driven.

I'm out!
Xbox time

8:41 PM
@Adrian He's a sysad in Hawaii, but is moving to Seattle to work for Amazon on July 1.
I'll Twittroduce you two.

@Cole Ah, uppers and downers. That's exactly what you need.

@Tanner got diagnosed by a Psychiatrist today with OCPD and ADD

I got my first Google recruitment email today
I feel like I've reached a milestone

@Adrian His blog.
@MDMarra Wow, very nice.
I got brushed off by an Amazon recruiter - does that count? =(

yup

8:44 PM
@WesleyDavid Ah. Very cool.

I'm not planning on responding to mine
is that dumb?

@MDMarra Did they quote your blog without attribution?
=P

nope!

@MDMarra It's not a bridge that I'd burn. Of course, I did just get rejection email from them today too.

So I should respond?

8:45 PM
@MDMarra I'd respond, say hey, get them on LinkedIn, but tell them you're comfy where you are if that's the truth.

@MDMarra congrats!
time to go to the chiro
bbiab

@MDMarra You should see if your work would pay to send you to an MCM class for something like directory services.

Ha

I bet you'd soak that up. Probably be more than halfway there already.

There is no MCM class
Not from MS anyway

8:48 PM
@MDMarra I meant the three week thing that you have to ship yourself to Redmond for.

@RyanRies is probably way closer to MCM than me
The class in Redmond is part of the exam
and it's like $10k I think
class + exams

@MDMarra 25k last I checked, but that was a while ago.

It's on my radar, but way down the line

I think the MCA program was 30k, but isn't MCA dead now?

nah its still there I think
for like the 8 people with one

8:51 PM
@MDMarra I dunno if you know Peter Chow on G+, Flickr, etc. but he's got some crazy certs, including the MCA in some kind of UNIX integration something or other? I don't think that MCA is around anymore though.

It is
They just had the only MCA rotation of the year at TechEd
Well, the only DS MCA

9:03 PM
@voretaq7 I thought pulling out was endorsed by the papalcy?

@ScottPack no methods of contraception are officially endorsed - remember you're not supposed to be enjoying it, you're just supposed to be having kids!

@Cole you signed off :(

9:24 PM
Holy freaking shit, server hardware has come down in price. Intel S2600WP servers, 2×E5-2660 procs, 256GB memory each <$6000.
Can't beat that for a cloud.

@MikeyB Fuck you and your NA pricing
I hope your exchange rate to USD fucks you up

@MDMarra Remember the standing offer. If you happen to be visiting Seattle, I'll buy the first round of drinks.

@Jacob had to go to the chiro and have therapy at 6 - I'll be back around 7

9:40 PM
@MikeyB HP servers, you mean?

9:52 PM
@MDMarra - I think the guy with the vbox question further points out the meta question about using vbox at all...but I think I found him his answer. serverfault.com/questions/515106/…
@MarkHenderson Imagine if he worked in education...then it'd be even cheaper and his software licensing could be paid with spare change.

<--- teaching myself awk :p
@MikeyB wow, really? not bad

@TheCleaner Unless a corrupt purchaser at the top level gets involved, then you have over $100k of Oracle licensing annually.
(well, $100k is probably cheaper than the real Oracle license cost for our half-dozen oracle servers with all the enterprisey licensing costs, but we wouldn't run so much oracle if we didn't have a site license)

Q: Why is a member of "Backup Operators" group denied from running backup?

Sadeq DoustiOn my Windows 7, I created a user, BackupUser5, and added him to the "Backup Operators" group. By design: Members of this group can back up and restore files on a computer, regardless of any permissions that protect those files. This is because the right to perform a backup takes precedence o...

PhD candidate...why you can't figure out backups?

@TheCleaner Because PhD candidates are very smart in one tiny thin sliver of the world that's mostly irrelevant to everyone else, and not very bright in all the others

10:04 PM
I'm just jealous to be honest...maybe someday

> You have been warned

"You don't get fired for buying Red Hat."

@ewwhite Red Hat is the new IBM? Oh god. Should I learn Ubuntu better, then?

10:20 PM
@freiheit Should I replace "Red Hat" with "HP"?

@ewwhite If you buy a HP-UX server, I'm firing you. ;)

@freiheit Awww :(

@freiheit Superdome!
Or: How to drop half a million bucks in 42U

@MarkHenderson 2 servers enter, one server leaves!
@MarkHenderson Reading the wikipedia page on that...
and...
uhm...

Super-what?

10:24 PM
The really interesting thing I learned:
Itanium isn't dead? WTF?

PA-8700 Superdome Minimums to Maximum Specification limits:
• 2 - 64 PA8700 CPUs
• 4GB - 256GB Memory
• 48 - 192 PCI I/O Slots
• 4 - 15 nPartitions
• 16GB/s - 64GB/s Crossbar Bandwith (Peak)

@ewwhite What are you going to do with 192 PCI slots?
768 network segments?

I'll find a way!

@MarkHenderson Don't give the network and security people any (more) crazy ideas!

@MarkHenderson Fill it up with a bunch of PCI ramdisks? tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/…

10:38 PM
I think someone needs to upvote this question.

Q: How effective is LSI CacheCade SSD storage tiering?

ewwhiteLSI offers their CacheCade storage tiering technology, which allows SSD devices to be used as read and write caches to augment traditional RAID arrays. Other vendors have adopted similar technologies; HP SmartArray controllers have their SmartCache. Adaptec has MaxCache... Not to mention a numbe...

I want my 65,536!!

there ya go m8

@ewwhite Aawwwwww puppies! How cute

920 consecutive days? damn.

@MarkHenderson The cuter an animal is, the tastier it is...

Mans two best friends - barbeques and dogs!

chomp!

10:47 PM
This little pig was quite tender and delicious

Hoping to get a border collie this year

@ewwhite You wouldn't want to be, either.

@MichaelHampton awww

@MDMarra Unfortunately the money is probably the easier thing to come up with - it's the waiting list that gets ya :(
