@MDMarra are you almost done with work? ⌚ is wastin'
21:33
@ewwhite sup
so what is it that you need me to do?
@ewwhite Unicode Watch?
I would have gone with ⌛ personally
21:46
Well, @mdmarra I think I need users loaded into AD
Did I send the user list?

Q: Can deleting an answer to a question result in tumbleweed being awarded

Dan NeelyI deleted an answer to one of my questions after discovering that the answer I proposed didn't work. My next update reported that I'd been awarded the tumbleweed badge, so I assume that was the question that earned it for me. Giving the badge for a question that did have an answer strikes me as...

look at the related column on the right - I guess we'll see that soon
@ewwhite nope
@ewwhite let me know when Exchange is done if you want me to create the mailboxes at the same time
You should learn how to install MS exchange!
I've done it
suuuuure.
21:55
@ewwhite I'd rather drill holes in my head.
Isn't that nifty.
but it's not about installing, it's about configuring...
Ah, well you didn't specify!
managing your send-connectors and configuring splined-rotisserators
@Iain Maybe. For that someone has to ask a question, self-answer, and then delete it. Aren't you prevented from deleting after you have a certain number of upvotes?
21:59
You can delete your own answer whenever you want. Even if somebody else accepted it.
@MichaelHampton No you can't
@MDMarra Really? They put limits on it?
@Zoredache I was pointing out the work done on the related column on the right
@MichaelHampton There was a big meta question about it
@Iain Oh, I see, I like that.
22:02
@Zoredache it may help find dupes
The related links were already there though. This just seems to add the vote counts.

Q: Downgrading of Accepted Answers allows answer to go negative!

mdpcSince an answer is accepted, I should think that this would STOP any sort of downgrading effort. However it does not. In fact, an accepted answer can continue to go very negative. I suggest that this bug be corrected....to either prevent downvoting an accepted answer OR preventing the answer f...

@Zoredache yeah - that makes it more noticeable though
@Iain Oh yes. Quite weird, because I have seen deleted accepted answers.
@mdmarra The Coast Citrus servers have the same SID
@MichaelHampton they may have been mod deleted
22:06
@Iain Quite possible. I don't have it to hand. And I have no idea how to make the "new" search work on deleted items.
@MichaelHampton deleted:1 ?
Does that still work?
@ewwhite uh huh
we went through this already
@Iain Not working for me. It seems to be ignored.
weren't you going to re-do the whole thing?
22:07
@MDMarra I reimaged, set the sysprep and built a new server... then I went to the new server as a local admin and did psgetsid
that displayed a NEW sid
@MichaelHampton must be mod only then for some reason
@ewwhite uh huh
but then I joined that server to the domain as another DC, and the SID changed to that of the existing DC
DCs share a machine SID. That's a unique case
@ewwhite That means it worked :)
22:10
They should be unique when joining the domain (so it's good that you sysprepped) and then they're changed to be identical machine SIDs when they become DCs
@MichaelHampton searching on isaccepted:yes deleted:1 throws up 318 and all the ones I've checked are closed/migrated
Member servers should all be unique though
@MDMarra soooo are Coast's ol-dc1 and ol-dc2 okay, then?
because I'm about to build Mango!
From what you're describing, yes
When you do a psgetsid on mango, it should be unique even after domain joining
unless you just dcpromo everything
That's a great idea!
22:12
Is mango a hostname or a person
it's a fruit, idiot.
@JoelESalas An Exchange server
The version history of the Windows Phone operating system began with the release of Windows Phone 7 in October 2010. Version history {| class="wikitable" |- | style="background:silver;"| | Obsolete | style="background:#3d4;"| | Current | style="background:Plum;" | | Future Release |} Windows Phone 7 {| class="wikitable collapsible collapsed" style="width:100%; font-size:90%;" |- ! style="background:silver; text-align:center;" colspan="3"| Table of versions: Windows Phone 7 |- ! style="background:#e9e9e9; width:8em; text-align:center;"|Version ! style="background:#e9e9e9; width:8em; te...
isn't mango a file server at another site?
wow that's fucked up
22:13
it's an exchange server at the company across the street.
@ewwhite stop fruiting and just do OL-MAIL-01
They both wanted MANGO
3
DC PROMO all the things
OL-DC-01. OL-MAIL-01. OL-FILE-01
dcpromo all the fruit!
@RobM like my other firm with 5 domain controllers?
in one site.
22:14
I'm going to do a take on the Limoncelli labeling rule. If it's a fruit, I'll promote it
@ewwhite Tell them they all get ED-JR-XXX
@MDMarra If it's produce, it ships?
Depends how big they are. I've got 4 DCs
@RobM 50 people
and three of the DCs were terminal servers
oh. OK. They're either very stupid or have been poorly advised in the past.
22:15
@Adrian Limoncelli has a rule where any server in his datacenters gets powered down if it isn't labeled
WTF? boggle
he just 1 finger solutes it on his way by
@MDMarra How would he know if it's labeled? I CALL BULLSHIT, NO ONE GOES IN A DC ANYMORE
@MDMarra Ah, that one. Yes. There's been many times when I wished I could get away with that.
@Adrian Same
@JoelESalas Go away devops
2
22:16
As much as I wish I could do that, none of us are Limoncelli. As far as I know anyway.
Tonight's big decision: Chinese food or not?
@MDMarra Yes.
Who's making it?
@MDMarra what are the not options ?
@RobM The Chinese people up the street
22:17
Mostly because I'd have to drive 2 hours to get decent Chinese food.
@Iain Probably a chicken sandwich or something from my fridge
Well if they're up the street and everything it would be rude not to ask them.
Katie works until 8 tonight so I'm on my own for sustenance
@MDMarra chinese it is then
@MDMarra So far my tracking protection list has gotten googleapis and google-analytics, but not adsense or doubleclick yet
22:18
Does depend on what's in the fridge of course. There's some turkey curry in mine...
I'm not so fortunate
I'd have to fillet a chicken breast and cook it myself
laaaaaazy
fortunate? There's someone who's never tried my cooking!
but we're getting away from the point. Chinese food and maybe a beer to go with it does sound nice.
Woo. Phone screen in 40 minutes.
I only have a few cans of Hell or High Watermelon or some bottles of Chimay on hand :(
I need some good blog topics now i'm starting to get back into the habit of doing it
22:21
The updated hulu app for the appletv is slick
the old one sucked
can anyone explain what's up with this?
The Apple TV is getting nicer and nicer
One telltale sign of bad end-users... their browser navigation bars end up in odd places
That's not right! I didn't even think that was possible on IE 9/10
@ewwhite Very true.
22:23
I mean clearly I'm wrong, I can live with that but WTF!
mechanical engineers are very noisy.
@Adrian Clearly mouse coordination is an issue
@ewwhite should we just always delete local profiles on logout hhaha
Every logoff is like a reset button for these people
@MDMarra or disallow certain browser mods
and I'm getting a Java update prompt on this user's account
we have to work in an office with other teams. They complain about us if we make a slight noise but they are very noisy all the time. Fuckers.
22:25
@ewwhite Yeah. I'm wondering if touch screens would actually benefit those people in the long term.
@ewwhite Yeah, Java is dumb and doesnt check whether or not the user is actually capable of installing the update
The Java devs must hate users more than they hate themselves. And you have to figure that someone working on that crappile must hate themselves a lot, right?
I always just edit the MSI to never install the updaters before I roll it out
That's obviously too much work to do for a single TS environment though
okay. solved. it was some sort of debug menu for IE
@MDMarra Have you made any Server 2012 TCO cost-benefit analysis type stuff to sell your managers on upgrading their old crusty servers?
22:29
New SID... purrrfect
HI FOLKS!
@RyanRies Nope! And now I'm in a spot where we have presales people and a bunch of microsoft partner pre-packaged stuff to do that before I even talk to people :)
HI
At $LastJob I was still trying to sell an upgrade from 2003 to 2008 R2
@RyanRies $CurrentJob is driven by "we need to know it to deploy it, so let's run everything internally on the latest and greatest"
Lync 2013 is the hotness
Yeah they're working on Lync here but I'm not on that project
22:34
I havent touched the admin side of it. Just as a user it's nice
@MDMarra Did they fix stability issues on OSX?
It took me like 20 minutes to figure out how to attach a file yesterday.
over Lync.
@JoelESalas Haven't used it on OS X
We have a bunch of EMC and VMware engineers that use it on OS X though
@RyanRies wat
@ewwhite this list is incomplete
There aren't sites for everyone and there aren't email domains for everyone
sigh
I can plug in default values for $null fields, but I just need to know what site/domain that should be
22:54
well, let me get the server going
TTYL guys, off to the neckbeard get-together
Unix Users Group (aka sit around, show off cool things, talk about tech, then go for beer & wings)
CHEERS
Sounds like when I hang out with myself, minus the boring stuff like unix
PAGERDUTYYYYY
@JoelESalas The IBM company that I interviewed at uses it
...and Orion
...and Nagios XI
@MDMarra Hahahahaha
23:08
And they sounded disappointed when I told them I didn't want them to make me an offer :-X
Hey @ewwhite. I just saw a commercial for chicken and waffles potato chips
Just thought I'd share.
The Sriracha sauce ones are soo good.
Chicken and waffles, not so much.
I haven't had any of them
I like Sriracha, but not as the main flavor. I can't imagine it on a chip
@MDMarra gotta get that cock sauce
It's like bbq chips but instead of the bbq after taste it's delicious Sriracha taste.
So is everyone going to be tuning into TruTV at 9pm Eastern to watch La Salle beat Boise St in the NCAA tournament?!?!?!
23:14
@MDMarra I only recognised half those words
Men's college basketball championships are the next couple of weeks
It's a big thing for people that like basketball because there are games all day every day for the next week and a half or so
@MDMarra I don't care for sports, but I do like cheap beer and bar food
La Salle University, where I graduated from (and worked for 4 years) is in the tournament for the first time in a long time
woooooo basketball!
I don't get why so few tech people follow sports
There's a lot of math and strategy involved. It seems like it would be right up a lot of people's alleys
23:17
I don't get why anyone follows sports
@MDMarra Because sports are largely emotion and illogical. We've had our emotions killed over the years and are logicla people.
I don't care much for basketball, but I'm a huge baseball fan
I get the heightened drama and the stakes in playoff sports, but I don't take it any more seriously than I'd take a soap opera
I enjoy watching college sports because the players actually care. They're not making any money, they just love the game
Watching a small school beat a huge one is really cool to me
Take that, rich kids!
23:20
haha yeah
It's even cooler when the military schools win big games, because you know not a single one of those kids is going to be going pro
23:35
@MDMarra I'll turn TruTV off if I have to!!
Mar 9 at 2:13, by ewwhite
So I'm on call for the move of TruTV.com to a new datacenter tonight
You don't control the channel though!
My wife is pissed that her Pawn Shop reality shows aren't on.
@MDMarra Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I like watching Boise State play, even if it makes me fiance crazy to root for her school's arch-rival.
@ewwhite Go Explorers!
@Adrian Welp, tonight my school will be beating boise (hopefully)
@ewwhite Ya know, the only decent damn shows on TV when I was in Orlando was the PBS station down there. They played a Muddy Waters live set from 1981 with the Rolling Stones hopping up onstage.
23:38
Everyone on campus is all jacked up for it. The school is 150 years old today and they're playing their first tournament game in forever
@MDMarra Heh. Boise is consistently under-rated by the people "in the know".
@MDMarra Nice. There ain't much here that's 150 years old.
In fact, UW itself is only ~152 years old.
the buildings themselves arent 150 years old. The school's moved from its original site
The current location is about 100 years old
but the school became an actual thing 150 years ago today. Kinda crazy
23:51
Hi all.
@Adrian damn boise state...
I went to Fresno State...
they took us 57-7 a couple years ago :(
