Mostly because by the time I was experienced enough to have someone I could mentor, there just wasn't any room on the orgnaization's roster. Well, I have a lot of light switches in my house...but honestly for me, I like the smarthings stuff like the personal sensor (though it should just be an app on your phone to be honest, not a device) and the sensor for the garage door. I also like reading about people using IFTTT to control it. Seeing things like "I have it set so that if there is motion on the front porch from 11pm to 6am all the lights in the house come on" or "flash the lights when my favorite team is playing on TV."
