(Reason #1 I can't be an airline pilot - My solution for every passenger complaint is "Shut off the pressurization system")
@voretaq7 BPFH?
@freiheit ayup.
@ScottPack See, for me, that would be a good thing. If the maximum size of a "personal item" is 7x15x16 and it's free, then that's what I'll bring. I'm very happy to let other people subsidize my ride.
Listen, they can't complain if they're unconscious, right?
I figure next year Allegiant will be charging $10 to carry on your coat. Unless it contains fasteners, in which case it must be checked at the gate cost of $70.
21:01
@ScottPack YOU MIGHT STAB A STEWARDESS WITH YOUR ZIPPER!!!
@MilesErickson It's 9x14x22 and $26.
@voretaq7 Their families can complain later, via hordes of lawyers
@MilesErickson You get one personal (under seat) item for free, but that's it.
@ScottPack I get it. Earlier this year I traveled for 5 months in Asia with a 12-liter pack.
IDK, it's going to make me very unpopular, but I think airlines should charge what it costs to operate the flights.
21:03
@voretaq7 See, I'm more of the opinion that they should have a very complex system of fares and fees that favors people who like to hack stuff.
So 10Gb-Base-T is okay?
@MilesErickson I might be able to get something close to that. I'm also flying with two females.
@MDMarra wtf
@voretaq7 That always seems to work well for me.
@MattBear ya
21:03
@ScottPack Hey, I was traveling with a female and she had exactly the same bag that I had. Except in black instead of in red.
@MilesErickson it works great for me too. Until the next time I want to book a flight and the last 5 airlines I've flown on are out of business :P
@MilesErickson ...are you trying to out-gay @Wesley?
or was she a very mannish woman?
@freiheit I can't read through all of it
BikeSnob sold out.
@voretaq7 Um, neither?
@voretaq7 NO ONE OUT GAYS ME!!
21:04
I get very cranky when I go to purchase my ticket and then get inundated with 90 different checkboxes. Do you want to pick your seat? That'll be $20, oh, you want to board early? Here's another $30. How many suitcases? That'll be a max of 40lbs and $50 each.
WHERE IS THE INTERLOPER THAT I MAY SMITE HIM WITH MY FABULOUS SHOES?!
@Wesley fabulous shoes? Pics.
Don't quote me $150 for the ticket and then $200 in add-ons so that I can actually use it.
@tylerl Dr. Frankenfurter was based on @Wesley.
@ewwhite Never seen it
But I'm out of the hardware game
21:05
@Wesley Faaabulous!
@ScottPack Microsoft has an airline now?
@voretaq7 I like minimalists.
@MattBear Pretty much.
@tylerl Wolverine 1,000 Mile Kraus boots.
@Wesley I actually like those...
21:06
@voretaq7 How much would you charge to shuttle the 3 of us down to Florida?
@MDMarra Jesus Kitten-Clobbering Christ.... that question.... my brain....
@MDMarra Did they ever explain WHY THEY'RE CHANGING THE SYSTEM CLOCK?
and I'm as straight as the Backstreet Boys!
@ewwhite We have a tiny tiny bit of 10Gig-E going on, but I've never heard it called "10GB-Base-T" before...
@ScottPack the FAA says I can only make you pay for your share of the gas and such. (pricks)
@ScottPack Oh, I like that. Reserved seat? Baggage? Meh. I'm very happy to let other people pay for that.
21:07
@voretaq7 Do they say that I can't buy you drinks when we land?
@ScottPack the rules are somewhat less clear on the subject of buying lunch/drinks
Oy, family's here. Gentlemen. Kittens.
@ScottPack what about @Wesley? (feral cats)
@voretaq7 Chupacabra in training.
@Wesley El Chupanibre?
21:09
@voretaq7 El Chupainebriated
El Chalupa del Gato
@freiheit it's 10GbE over Cat 6a(?) cables?
@Wesley Drop the chalupa! It contains canine feces.
@MDMarra landing sooooon
@voretaq7 Something about accounting software and posting dates
@NokImchen Just to be clear, before you post anything, note that this room is not for Live Support. Posting requests for such here will only garner you abuse.
21:10
@ewwhite "Ladies and gentlemen, O'Hare is still undergoing renovations. Please bear with us as we get lost and taxi around the airport for a half hour trying to figure out where the fuck our gate is today..."
Heh. Freudian slip.
@voretaq7 When is it not?
@MDMarra something something doing it wrong
> My understanding of the posting process is that they have to be posted with the same date as the day of service, but the bookkeeper is only in a few days a week. We're transitioning to a system that lets her set the time in the posting instead of systemwide.
@ewwhite Hurry up, bro!
chop chop!
Including, as it happens, 11 of the 12 countries I visited earlier this year. That sure would have been convenient.
21:11
@Magellan idunno man, they've been working on that airport since I was like 6 (about as far back as I can remember flying into/through it). It's like the New York State Road Construction of airports.
@MDMarra well then they have to fix their broken ass workflow, or deal with post date != transaction date in their reconciliation (which is what Big Boy Companies do)
@MDMarra HE CAN'T CHOP! HE'S ON A PLANE! THOSE PLASTIC KNIVES CAN'T EVEN CUT THE LITTLE CELLOPHANE BAGS THEY COME IN!
@voretaq7 And we can't even blame the TSA for that, anymore.
We have to blame these people:
Seriously, this country wants to salvage the airline industry? Eliminate the TSA and stop all this bullshit security theater.

Show up to the airport, get your ass on the fucking plane, sit in your seat and by god if you give the cabin crew a hard time the captain is going to come out of the cockpit and take the crash axe upside your damnfool head.
@voretaq7 Pretty much.
@voretaq7 and everyone carries a damn knife
oh and this ridiculous dance they do when someone on the flight deck needs to take a piss? Can we all just agree it's the STUPIDEST THING EVER?
21:17
@freiheit And don't even get me started on that. Flight Attendants would rather that we all be forcibly sedated before loading onto the plane, stacked like cordwood, and be revived at the far end after the flight.
that way when someone pulls one, you just go "Fool, we ALL have knives!"
and everyone gets in on the stabbity action
@Magellan ...see, the cabin crew agrees with my "shut off the pressurization system" approach to customer relations!
They can't assault you if they're unconscious! :D
"Get in there little Timmy, stab the bad man in the knee!"
@Magellan Too bad for them their employer wants options for charging us extra...
For those of you not roped into being Oracle DBAs, the unending matrix of "Remote Exploit without Auth=Yes" bugfixes is probably what you need to read after you update Java
@freiheit If you're still running Java you deserve what you get.
21:29
@voretaq7 Fucking J2EE apps
@freiheit you can if you want to, but you'll get a social disease...
@voretaq7 If you're still running Oracle Database, you also deserve what you get. ;)
Ewww... Philadelphia smells.
@voretaq7 I already contracted tourette's from fucking Oracle.
2
@freiheit You should have used protection. That's why we have DBAs man!
21:33
@voretaq7 We were fresh out of DBAs
@freiheit Dude, didn't anyone ever have the talk with you? Always keep a couple of DBAs around just in case!
@voretaq7 We're trying to solve it by getting rid of all the Oracle, instead.
Just remember: you don't want to use an expired DBA. You'll wind up with flat files and punched cards.
@freiheit yeah? How much does an exorcism like that run you these days? :-D
@voretaq7 A few MS-SQL server licenses and about a combined person-decade of sysadmin and programmer time...
(and even then I'll still need to be pushing Oracle client libraries to some boxes, due to the hosted PeopleSoft/Oracle stuff we pay somebody else to do)
@RyJones Would you be up for lunch on Thursday?
21:38
All told, that's a bargain compared to the headaches and ~$100k+ annual licensing costs we'll be dropping.
@voretaq7 I kinda sorta feel bad for the GZIP ALL THE THINGS Dude. Doing stuff as the root user when you're in a hurry is a lesson everybody has to learn the hard way at least once and probably periodically.
@Magellan wait what happened?

Q: I accidently zipped my whole server

DexirianAlright if anyone wants to play god and work miracles i'm down. So, i was given the task of making a script that found files that are older than 6 months, zipped them and then deleted them. On my way in making tihs script i ran this : find / -type f -mtime -400 ! -mtime -180 | xargs gzip blabl...

hahahahahhahahahhahahhahaha
oh my god that's terrible
I saw that too, was pretty absurd.
21:47
I wonder if I need to build a new computer at home.. I see newer intel motherboards supporting 32gig of ram, which would be quite handy when lab'ing at home..
Can a mod hammer this or 20kers cast deletes pls?

A: Route RRAS traffic through a proxy

alibagI have a VPN server up and running on a windows server 2003. All the users are able to connect to the server and NAT their IP (use server IP and internet). I was wondering if I could route all the traffic to a proxy server. In other words, Users connect to RRAS and then the whole traffic will go...

@pauska: do it, doo it
@mdmarra going to go pregame at tony Luke's.
When did you want to hang?
@ewwhite ASAP. I have to be up super early tomorrow now because my PM is an idiot
The earlier the better
Woo, Microsoft have relaxed their non-profit eligability requirements. I can now get Windows 8 for $8/seat and Server 2012 R2 DC for $225/socket for one of our clients
This is going to make them very happy
21:53
@MarkHenderson per socket or per license? Because a DC license covers 2 sockets
@MDMarra I will have to check.
@mdmarra meh.
@ewwhite You don't want to now?
> The Standard and Datacenter editions of Windows Server both use processor-based licencing, with each license allowing up to two physical processors.
So that's $225/license. Even better!
My heart is breaking. Ed just meh'd me
@MarkHenderson I figured. I've never seen any SKU sold per processor for the 2012 family. Sweet pricing
21:56
Exchange Standard is $44/license!
I think I just died
I can finally move them off their SBS 2008 systems
And all licenses include SA
Those sound like non-profit subscription prices (i.e. due yearly)
I forget the actual name of the agreement
It's through VLSC
There is no mention of any recurring costs
Yeah, when I worked at $university they were too, but it fell under a special program where the costs were yearly sub prices
Wouldn't hurt to double check before you tell your client just in case
Anonymous
hello everyone
We got SQL Server for like $90/socket, Server datacenter for $200ish, Windows was based on our FTE count with labs being free, etc. But it was like 150k yearly
Anonymous
21:58
Am I too late or has anybody seen this yet github.com/opserver/Opserver?
@superpatosainz interesting
Anonymous
Screenshots here: imgur.com/a/dawwf
@mdmarra pregaming
And need to get to my hotel.
Anonymous
@MDMarra Yeah I'll check it out
22:01
And where can I find ribbed condoms in Philadelphia?
2
@ewwhite Well it'll take me probably an hour to get into the city so let me know before it gets too late. I'm gonna take a train in because fuck driving and the restaurant is near suburban station
@ewwhite Going to give @MDMarra a rough ride, hey?
@MarkHenderson Ya after that question I'm considering bailing
@superpatosainz Oh my god their memory label says Gb and not GB. WHAT THE FUCK STACK EXCHANCE!
@MDMarra Its github. Fork, fix, submit pull request
Yeah I don't know how to dev
22:07
@MDMarra click the github forky buttons, follow the "git clone" instructions, fix the Gb (and kB vs KB thing, too), "git commit -a", "git push", then go back into github and send a pull request.
@MDMarra (it's not really dev if you fix strings)
Anonymous
what is this i don't even
Right I meant more "I don't know how to git"
Anonymous
Some day I should learn git deeply, other than, push/pull/add/rm/mv/commit/the basics
@mdmarra 8pm is about right.
@ewwhite You're killin me, Ed!
What happened to 4:30 arrival!?
22:08
Just got my car
Blame @voretaq
@MDMarra Seriously, "git clone <url copied from github>", cd directory, edit shit, "git commit -a", "git push" and go poke at github again. That's really all you need for this.
@ewwhite You're renting a car! Just come to the suburbs then :)
(until the upstream project is all like "oh, no, wait, could you push that into a branch and redo your 12 commits as 2 commits" and you're reading up about rebase and your brain falls out of one ear)

you guys want that?
@MDMarra no kidding, eh? oy vey.
22:12
@allquixotic We already got it
friggen cross-poster...
Looks like alibag tried to ask that question as an answer, it got deleted, and then someone ended up asking it on SU
I'm not sure we want him on SF...
wtf o_O cross posted by two different users?
@MDMarra You sure alibag and Danialzo isn't the same person?
It didn't sound like it
A mod can verify though
22:14
@mdmarra call my cell
oh wait
wtf... that's extremely "yo dawg"
I just realized that he copypasta'd the OP
.....
Maybe it is the same guy
alibag seems to just be copying other peoples' questions and re-posting them... hopefully that doesn't end up being some kind of automated botnet
omfg

it's just SO being SO
22:18
Sup
not quite. it goes like this:
(1) On **March 8** (quite a while ago now), someone asks a question, no upvotes, one answer, no upvote and no followup
(2) Today, "alibag" re-posts the OP question as an *answer*. It gets deleted.
(3) Moments later, "alibag" re-posts the OP question as a *question* on SU and SO.
Why is Reddit under such a heavy load ffffffffffffffffffffffff
Anonymous
@allquixotic so maybe alibag is a whiteknight who will repost that question in order to get an answer and paste it into the original question?

^_^
oh hell. I'm dead meat. Forgot to eat lunch and it irks Lady when I give her crap for not eating enough when I forget to eat.
22:24
@Magellan Isn't she pregnant?
@Magellan doh
You're allowed to give her stick for not eating enough when she's pregnant
@MarkHenderson Yeah. I know that. You know that. I have to convince her of that, and she's pregnant, which means logic doesn't always work.
Oh man, babies
Glad I can't make those
@Magellan Didn't realize you two were with spawn. Congrats
22:26
@MDMarra Thanks. Expecting fraternal twin girls sometime this winter.
@Magellan neither did I, congrats :)
@Magellan woah!
and oh god, I am so sorry
:P
@cole Why wouldn't you want a screaming shit fountain? ;)
4
@freiheit all set with that
22:27
Are fraternal twins always boy/girl?
No right?
I don't know pregnancy science
@MDMarra No. 50/50 odds of that.
Which I think will be the inevitable end to my gf and I.
@MDMarra nah. 2 eggs instead of 1 egg splitting.
The only ones I know (small sample size) are boy/girl so I just assumed I guess. Never had to think about it
@Magellan Oh right makes sense
durrr
when I hear egg used in a human context, I become less enthusiastic about eating cake
22:28
@MDMarra Sometimes the boy/boy or girl/girl fraternal twins get mistaken for identical because, well, siblings the same age and all that...
Glad my eggs committed suicide
Although, if my sister's kids are any indication - I would make some beautiful children.
@allquixotic I prefer pie.
Because LOOK AT THEM:
@Magellan I'm wheat-free, theoretically, until I can smell pizza-smell emanating from a restaurant
pie isn't enough to make me break my diet though
@allquixotic Heh. Yeah, I hear ya. Lady makes amazing pie though.
22:30
@allquixotic So, placenta is right out, then?
@cole They look like you. WHAT DID YOU DO, COLE?!
@Wesley I know, it's kinda creepy
This is really cute though:
@freiheit ugh. and polenta is too close-sounding to that also :S
good thing I don't base my diet entirely on things that sound like other things that are gross, else I couldn't eat green peas
squash, though, deserves not to be eaten with such a name. die, squash, die!
@Wesley in all fairness - my sister and I look a lot alike.
ah, CRUD (it's up to you if you want to treat that as a word or an acronym) -- it's getting dark outside; time to go home
22:33
@allquixotic There's lots of tasty squash things. And we're coming up on squash pie season in the US. (squash beer season already started)
@freiheit don't even talk about "butternut" squash. Just No.
@allquixotic I meant pumpkin, though butternut squash is a somewhat reasonable replacement for pumpkin...
@allquixotic What about zucchini and other summer squash?
@freiheit eh... zucchini... I don't love the taste of it but at least its name sounds ok :P
22:37
@allquixotic So.... no pumpkin pie for you, then, huh?
Anyone here experienced with Microsoft Lync?
@allquixotic mmmmmm butternut squash
@MarkHenderson a little, why whats up?
@allquixotic If I was writing a slightly smarter than dumb bot that's what I'd do
@MattBear Looking at it for a small site that wants to ditch their current 25-year-old PBX and go modern
They have 5 people in and out of the office all day, and 4 people who are in the office sometimes, but on the road a lot
@MarkHenderson hmm, what about using o365 lync?
22:46
@MattBear I'm open to anything
I know very little about Lync, so I'm still in early stages of investigating
check out office 365 then, what are they using for email and all that right now?
@MattBear On-premises Exchange
dammit people! Why the F do you insist on doing your own log handling? Just write your damn app to use rsyslog and be done with it!!!!!1!
@MattBear Right now i'm more interested in functionality
I.E. is it any good? Can it do as advertised?
Get so sick of log files written out in whatever strange-ass format the project lead prefers.
22:48
@MarkHenderson it depends on whats advertised lol, but yes, so far it's worked great for us
How is it on Mac? What smartphones does it support?
@MattBear Fair enough. I'm very skeptical of most new products so I like to hear from others
I just got an email from our distributor saying that they are having a discount on Lync 2013 which has piqued my interest
@MarkHenderson I use it on my android, no issues, we have a few users on macs that use it, no problems
@MattBear Ok, good. They have a few macs, and they are android-heavy for smartphones
one cool thing is you can set up a conference, invite people to it, and they dont need to have an account or even have it installed
just opens in a browser
@MattBear Oh wow
That would be good
They use G+ Hangouts a lot now for remote meetings. It would be nice to be able to bring them in-house
22:51
And I simply cannot understand why some people cannot seem to keep their hands to themselves:
and the support is very good
What don't you like about Hangouts?
@Magellan I love them
I just like everything to be unified if I can
$8 per month per user, gives you hosted exchange, lync, and sharepoint online
@MattBear ... wow. That's pretty good
22:52
@MarkHenderson Ah. I've used them at a couple places where we really loved them. New place still uses a voice conferences services, and I'm ambivalent about that.
we use a lot of the $20 per month accounts, which takes care of Office Pro, Lync, SharePoint Online, and Exchange Online, as well as a lot of CAL's included
for a small-medium shop, its well worth it
@MattBear Wow
That actually sounds pretty nice
My only hesitation about moving to all-cloud based stuff is, as we've discussed here a few times, bandwidth in Australia fucking sucks
So I'm quite concerned about speed, and what happens if they hit their internet cap. But I think I will be giving them a trial
I already have a site in mind to trial it with
@MarkHenderson ahh, yeah check it out, call them
I give the office 365 tech support an A+ too
We like it, because most of our systems are sitting behind a giant Microsoft shield
These Lync phones seem not too bad either
