@DennisKaarsemaker What you posted is really interesting to hear. Nothing personal, I'm sure they're great guys. But both were terribly awkward at interviewing and asked nothing but database design questions for nearly an hour. Once they figured out that I was too weak of large-scale enterprise database stuff, they should've let me go or moved on to something else.

anyone watch falling skies?

I'm not the world's greatest interviewer, but I've never botched an interview that badly. Hired a few candidates that didn't turn out, but you can't win them all either.
@Wesley To be honest, I've never heard of those two framework. Doing a little poking at Rails, but haven't had time for it. That last job was 14 hours a day coming up to speed on all the things I needed to know. Still got the pedal down so haven't had time for the less-immediately applicable Ruby stuff.
@RyJones You going to man night tomorrow?

@Magellan I plan on it, you?

awww :(
it was a fake

I mean, it's his 20th time-in-service

11:10 PM
Installing 2012 R2 Datacenter in my home lab!

can't really say 20 year anniversary

Core i7 Haswells are fucking hot

@RyJones Doh! I forgot he was celebrating that. Yeah, I'll make sure I'm there.

I mean that literally

I just wrote way too much for that DNs guy
@RyanRies Xeons or bust!
:D

11:17 PM
Sorry to bother people. I have a potential question with a secondhand IBM xSeries 366, and although it's a home environment "Root Access" requested that I ask here as it's a bit outside their scope. Should I attempt to ask on the site or is in chat fine?

If you can take the "home" portion out of the question and it's still valid, then ask on the main site

@MDMarra Perfect, thanks.

But if you're asking something like how can you make the fans quieter because it's muffling out the football game, SF isn't the right site :)

@hexafraction Yeah, what @MDMarra said. The SF site is not kind to home or Dev environment questions.

Perfect, I'll ask tomorrow when I have more time to reformulate and backtrack one more time.

11:20 PM
@hexafraction Thank you. Well formulated and researched with example of what you've tried are kind of key to succeeding on SF. We get a bad reputation when folks don't do their homework first.

Learned it from SO, just as bad there :)

On the surface we close everything that says "home" or "dev" in it. But if your question doesn't raise "wtf is he thinking?" and you don't volunteer the fact that it's in a home, we'll never know :)

But you already know it's a home as I just told you that :)

just say it's a homework problem, it will smooth everything over

We close most homework stuff too though

11:23 PM
@MDMarra I think you missed the implied /s

whoops

@Zoredache ^5

derp derp
My brain is fried from the customer from hell today
I got pulled off of their AD migration because my boss didn't want be being tied up in their nonsense, so I hammered out a few AD designs for other customers.

@MDMarra gin & tonic fix that right up.

I finished early, so guess what project I just got pulled back into?!
They're doing an acquisition where the divesting company, literally, gave a subdivision away
If that doesn't raise red flags, I don't know what does
So, of course, during the divesting process, the source company isn't being helpful at all to facilitate the migration of the AD resources into the target environment
No domain admin in the source domain, no SID history can be migrated, only 1 way trusts, so no coexistence
I mean, we've pretty much said "all of your apps that have a fqdn hardcoded in a web.config will break because you don't have any documentation" so I don't really care too much

11:35 PM
@MDMarra Oooh from where

11:47 PM
@MDMarra You really good at trolling
Hmmm... Thanks, I set it up a test here... xserv.im, You really good at trolling :P, Thanks for the copypasta from Wikipedia, I'm using Google DNS, So if you use it too you will get the old config... If that isn't work what is the good alternative? and it is a good idea to host the DNS server somewhere else? — Mounir Ahmina 26 mins ago

Mounir is probably some Markov chain seeded with tech support calls

@Wesley annnnd on hold.

ooh our national safe work body is publishing stuff under CC licenses

11:52 PM

@Wesley Not being able to send emails out of her "hole area" sounds like normal behavior.

Only you can keep your hole area from sending external emails.

Gorramit! When is that new router going to get here? It's "out for delivery" with a local express courier from Amazon and it's been roaming around the city for the past 3 hours.

@Magellan I had a courier "couldn't find the address" the other week, never mind that the same company delivered a separate package on the same day

@Wesley This. This is exactly why my fiance' says I spend too much time here.

11:55 PM
@Magellan She doesn't like you fixing other people's hole areas? =(

@Andrew Yeah. Not surprised. I've actually had a UPS delivery guy deliver one package on his truck and later report that he couldn't find the address for the other package he was to deliver that day from the same truck.
I got an apology from the local depot manager for that one.

@Magellan My UPS driver has social anxiety and won't even speak or look at me when he delivers things and I have to sign for them. If I don't have to sign for something, he drops the package and runs, never rings the doorbell.

what does his "thanks inb4 ^^" mean?
thanks before the question?

don't you love/hate it when people ask vague theoretical questions that raise a dozen other questions of "but what are you actually trying to do?" and "are you insane???"

@RyJones bad texting engrish for TIA?
Thanks in Advance. And not referring to a pre-stroke.
Because nearly dying almost always sucks.

11:59 PM
