@AaronCopley Haha I remember when I was given my first domain admin account, "before anyone notices" was a common thing for me
"Middle of the day, don't want to log in when I'm at home, restart Exchange in the middle of the day, hope nobody notices, blame on a network glitch if they do"
When I try to add apple.schema to my OpenLDAP running on Debian this is the error I get;
root@directory:~# ldapadd -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f apple.schema
SASL/EXTERNAL authentication started
SASL username: gidNumber=0+uidNumber=0,cn=peercred,cn=external,cn=auth
SASL SSF: 0

@AaronCopley I don't always read the man page, but when I do I end up shouting "Why is this so out of date and only showing half the switches available?"
Should all respond with meme pics. "Not sure if confused. Or really think this is Reddit." -- "Cross posts question, claims wrong site is only hope." -- "CROSS POST ALL THE SITES!!!"
@Wesley It's toooo much fun. Other admin in my place had to reboot a server he messed up using it, only thing he had working was mcedit :) had to edit echo to /proc/sys-trigger (whatever) Classic move
Of course if your OS allows no-password logins via telnet or something (maybe SCO still does?) then you'd be fucked. But you're running SCO - so... yeah.
@JoelESalas it's evolved over the years. Used to be the sound of a clay amphora being taken off the shelf would get all the cats running to your pyramid...
@Zoredache O_o;; Documentation huh... errmmm uh... yea. I uh... I write stuff down. Just let me ... uh .. fumbles through drawers and piles of loose paper
@voretaq7 Docu-mints. I haven't heard of that brand before, but they're those things you eat to keep your breath fresh after hours of sitting behind a computer without brushing your teeth.
Right. Your non-existent documentation shouldn't be shuffled, or it gets out of order, and then you can't find the piece of paper with all the passwords written on it when you need it.
@HopelessN00b you're supposed to pull the RFID chips and embed them in your watchband or something so when you get near doors they just unlock obediently.
(When people ask you just say "The systems here know their true master")
OK, haircut time, seeing as how I slacked off yesterday, didn't get one, and am now DoublePlusShaggy
@voretaq7 Alright, I'm so trying that. I wonder if I can boost the range on those things and attach them to a cellphone battery, or something like that...
The magic SysRq key is a key combination understood by the Linux kernel, which allows the user to perform various low level commands regardless of the system's state. It is often used to recover from freezes, or to reboot a computer without corrupting the filesystem.
Much like Sun Microsystems's Open Firmware (OpenBoot), this key combination provides access to powerful tools for software development and disaster recovery. In this sense, it can be considered a form of escape sequence. Principal among the offered commands are means to forcibly unmount file systems, kill processes, reco...
Hey IT homies; last chance to get your hands on my new keychain punchdown tool: indiegogo.com/keychain-punchdown -- making them because I think other admins might want them, whether that's 10 or 1000 is up to you :)
$5, really? The bits cost me $7 alone and Fluke tools cost ~$50. It's because if I can't mass-produce them, I'm machining, anodizing, and assembling them by hand and that's a significant amount of my time
@MarkHenderson (after a quick google) so it reloads the kernel? Sounds like it takes down the whole system then. Was wondering what null-point deference has got to do with it.
I can't bootstrap a production run with this few purchases, but I can make an extra one or two while I'm at it. So the more people get the more will be available. If we get as few as 40 orders, I can mass produce.
ooh, how'd you find that @Zoredache? i hunted for days
but anyway the nice thing about my keychain punchdown tool is, it uses standard twist-lock bits with cutters, and is as small as i can make it while still fitting that bit and not hurting your hands
My son's had a skype video call with his girlfriend open for nearly 10 hours now - what shows I'm a geek isn't that I should tell him to do something else but how impressed I am with its stability
@Chopper3 Yep. And back then I was a horny teenager man, anything that might take away from the chance of getting to touch boobs was not a risk worth taking
@LucasKauffman Hey, now as an adult, I still try not to take the risk of doing anything that will take away from boob time. Difference is now that boob time is about once a week, rather than every time you're alone
Mind you I know a few women with IUDs and if you're relying that for birth control, it's then a very wise move to make sure that you're both infection-free
@LucasKauffman Yep. Very common. It's also a pre-cursor to cervical cancer in women, so common but still has its risks
In Australia they offer a free HPV vaccination to all children 16 and over I think
nah men, I just gave her a head-bud right in the ovaries
but if you're interested in her we might be able to arrange something for a certain amount of chocolate chip cookies, freshly baked with high quality chocolate ofcourse
"Honey, can you make a tin of your best chocolate biscuits with lindt chocololate" "No, fuck off, I'm not your maid" "But I need them to make an exchange" "Exchange for what?" "A mistress" "No."
