4:13 AM
@Wolff it was a pun i said privacy

2 hours later…
6:24 AM
@joojaa Lol

3 hours later…
9:04 AM
@Wolff I honestly never checked.

5 hours later…
2:28 PM
@Wolff There is that. I had the same back in high school. One of the computers in the library when I was in middle school (the only computers in the whole building at the time) had a "font creating" program, where you could open ANY font that was installed, modify it by pixel square, and save a new version. I used to have so much fun doing that!

5 hours later…
7:51 PM
Anyone here knows Adobe Illustrator?
How do you make a curve that is exact?
Without using the blue as a guide cause some of the angles aren't 90 degrees how do I make something as smooth as that?
And I still don't know how to do it without the blue thing for anything that is 90 degree.

@MathCubes I know Illustrator, but I don't understand your question. A curve that is exactly what?

Rounded but doesn't goes outwards.

Do you mean an arc? A part of a circle?

Yes an arc I guess
What ever that shape is

If it's just 90 deg like shown, the easiest is just to draw a circle and delete two points

7:56 PM
IF it's an arc than that's what I mean

An arc is part of a circle. A curve can be any curvy shape.

Well yes but its hard to get it exact. Like I still don't know how to align up the anchor points.
Like how do I make an anchor point that is exactly center in a line segment?
Like I never seen anyways to enter the x and y position for them

Does this help? Just deleting two points with Direct Selection Tools and then closing the shape using Pen Tool. Holding down shift to make the lines exactly vertical and horizontal.
Just one way out of several.

Oh there is an arc tool

Yeah, that too.

8:02 PM
I just don't understand on why it's so hard. Like Is there anyway to move an anchor point to an exact point? LIke 100, 100

@MathCubes For some segments you can take advantage of snapping of course, but else you can use Object > Path > Add Anchor Points.

?
It's just annoying

Just select it and change its coordinates in the Transform panel.

I never knew that thanks

No problem. A lot of things will get easier now!

8:05 PM
This is what I been mostly working on

Oh! What is this?

Urban planning.

Ah, OK I see.
As a hobby?
Looks advanced with dimensions and all. I would think urban planners used some specialized software.

Well mostly it's an interest of mine
I actually do an traffic engineer and a urban planner.
Those are expensive and it's not quite.
For example I want to make a city to scale

You can use Illustrator, but some things might be easier to sort of "program" in a suitable program. illustrator is "just" a drawing application.

8:10 PM
Exactly
What do you think most planners do? Draw

yeah or construct

Nice! When is this dated?

I don't know but it's like 1800s when Detroit was just a town
THis was their plan. However, it never really got built due to the state and federal government wanting a grid.

Here in Europe many cities have grown more organically with less rigid grids.
This is Copenhagen 1795:

I see some resemblance to the first image you posted.
@MathCubes Haha

It's the same plan

@MathCubes You don't like being in them or watching drawings of them? 😁

All of the above

@MathCubes The black part?

8:18 PM
es
yes

Actually I like that. having this fragment of a larger pattern.

Would never work with modern traffic and I personally don't like on how fragmented and partition it makes everything.
Like each area is separated form the rest by a wide blvd and aren't really connected.
This is the reason why it wouldn't work now.

A lot going on there...

Yes but there is a reason why he designed it like that
It's allowed for the most direct access

My city weren't designed for modern traffic at all, but we make it work somehow.

Of course we have urban planning, but the whole idea of a city which was built from a design is foreign to me.

The problem is traffic cause there isn't a clear route to X
Like London any Organic city is going have a traffic problem

Problems with traffic in European cities started already before cars.

That's fine
Even a intersection like that would be problemsome for cyclists

@MathCubes Like what?

8:27 PM
It's hard to negotiate when you are going faster than pe say 10 Mp/H
The one that I already linked
Imagine trying to negotiate the right away with someone either to the right or left of you when you are at that 5 way intersection where those two streets marge into one.

Yeah it must be messy. Also clutters up the place with all the needed signs and signals.

Well when it was planned there was no traffic control
Everything had to be negotiated.
When traffic signs were first introduced they were rejected
For example, who would know better the yield sign or two person at an intersections? Well traditionally you would yield the right of way to the person that would have more difficulties.

@MathCubes Well, that could perhaps cause some conflicts. At least when traffic reached a certain density.

That's system workes when you aren't going that much faster than a ped

We have 5 way intersections as well.

8:35 PM
That would be easier to deal with.

@MathCubes Ha, yeah. Still had time to a tip of the hat back then.

Angles
