I really mean it when I say I'm glad I see so many participating. It seems a lot of people still care for this community. Hopefully some kind of consensus can be reached
Hey Scott. Can I draw your attention to this discussion on meta? We are trying to decrease the amount of lazy 'tutorial-on-demand' questions on the site, and one of the early signs is that answering them isn't a good idea. I'd appreciate your input on the matter. Thanks! — Vincent ♦Feb 16 at 10:21
@WELZ I remember when I frequented XDA forums for Android modding there was what they called a "Mega thread" because new users would spam the forums asking "how do I do x" The mega thread covered almost every basic question you'd need carefully organized and categorized.
This frees up the forum for more "on topic" questions
In my experience these do work. It will NOT be easy and probably not fun either (unless you find that kind of compiling fun) but I do believe it works.
Would it be one Community wiki post with each answer posted: "Common question abc - answer" or each and every one will be community wiki post tagged canonical

@Vincent If "canonical" is taboo, I liked Scotts "general-information" tag proposal, If we are just trying to put a label on everything to put it in one place.
I'd just like to say, it is very poorly written. (and may be a bit hard to understand) and that's because I just started typing whatever I was thinking without focusing on weather it made sense to others or not.
@WELZ I agree with some of your points. I'd like to point out that the tour isn't especially helpful to new users. I think the tour should be required before posting and the tour should mention something about the minimum amount of effort required. Maybe in really big bold text so it's not something you miss. Just check out the tour and tell me it's helpful because it's not. Pretend for a minute you've never been to a site like this and try to absorb this info.
Possible Solution (#2)
Again speaking as a new user as of 5 months from this post.
The tour:
Is not helpful.
Should be reformatted to be helpful to new users.
Should explain what is on topic and what is not on topic.
Should have a section in large bold obvious letters stating *the required am...
