Phone replaced

@voretaq7 if bluetooth was off, that means I would have to listen to the radio in my car when I drive.... (android though, not iphone)
my phone can stream much better music than what plays over the air

3 hours later…
07:01
"Italy Tornado fighter jets collide near Ascoli"
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28855459
:S
@Federico Yeah, I heard that on the radio yesterday

1 hour later…

this one hits near home. My father served in the same base for 7 years and the current colleagues are seriously doubting that any of the four might have survived.

@shortstheory: http://aviation.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/3297
look at the image, it has been modified
11:26
@Federico yes... the edit comment also says so?
Comment: Labelled the photo to make things clearer and reorganized the answer slightly to flow better.
@Federico oh, yes, sorry, I see your point
you were trying to tell @shortstheory that the repetition hasn't been removed, the image had changed.
yeah looking at rendered output is a must when an image changes

@falstro yep

I found out the spelling difference between hanger and hangar. Otherwise a Google image search for hangers next to runway were bringing up some pretty interesting pictures, though I wasn't intending for any, specially at work.
@Farhan that's one way to learn
suicides?
@ratchetfreak ?
@Farhan I'm guessing he's got a false-friend translation mix-up with a noose
or he really doesn't like Project Runway
14:17
I meant the type of pics you got from that google search
And that's what I learnt. Check spelling before searching
14:35
@ratchetfreak why would you get pictures of suicide when you search for coat hangers along a fashion runway? :)
he searched for "hangers next to runway" hangers can mean several things
@ratchetfreak I wasn't aware it can mean anything related to death or suicide though
and the only rational interpretation of "hanger next to a runway" would result in fashion shows :)
combine "hanger" and NSFW I think of someone killing themselves by hanging
ok, I'll bite
nope, didn't show anything obviously painful except people sticking coat hangers where they should never ever go... good god, how do people come up with such ideas??
oh that type of hanging
15:06
@falstro @ratchetfreak Too much confusion?
15:24
@Farhan Confusion? You want actual confusion? :)
the quintuple roundabout?
@ratchetfreak indeed, the Swindon "Magic" Roundabout
@falstro The picture I posted is fake.
compared to the alternatives it's the best they could do
@Farhan you're saying the neat gradient in the background isn't real???? ;)
15:27
the gradient is in your head
it is a nice composite of highway intersetions
@falstro You believe in everything on Internet?
@casey hmm.... are you making fun of the shape of my cranium?
@Farhan impossible. so much contradictory things to believe in
@Farhan without question!
15:31
@falstro no, just trying to convince you that you were imaging things :)
these are not the highways you are looking for
@Farhan the internet is mankind's greatest accomplishment, why shouldn't it contain ultimate truth??
@ratchetfreak I had that experience the first time I drove through Newark
@casey that doesn't stop the bible...
@casey Newark NJ?
15:37
@Farhan yep
the Turnpike I assume?
near the area where the turnpike, 1, 9 and 78 all come together.
What? Don't find that a lot of fun. And the tolls, traffic jams, Lincoln Tunnel.
16:14
@casey "That's what you get for going to Jersey."
@voretaq7 And you've to pay ransom (aka toll) when you leave NJ, regardless of whichever way.
@Farhan you could stay.... stay FOREVER.... in JERSEY.... <creepy serial killer smile goes here>
@voretaq7 Nah, I'm neither that stupid nor that rich.
P.S.: Jersey people, if you got offended, ... I don't care.

2 hours later…
18:20
@Farhan Catchers been using similar things for years. They're called knee savers. :)
18:56
@falstro Neat, but they don't become a chair.
@voretaq7 i know, but it was worth it for the quicker upgrade
things got better once I found the optimal route to this obscure parking lot:
@Farhan I've never offended jersey people taking shit about their state/city, but man those Cleveland people really don't like it when you say something negative about their town
@casey then they should live somewhere better :)
@Farhan the annoyance toll. $.60 to escape NJ over the delaware river, well worth the price
and the cleveland airport.... not sure if it has changed, but in ~2005-2008ish it had maybe 1 real restaurant (plastic silverware) and trashy fast food and the hospitality company that staffed the shops only hired ex-cons (or perhaps that is all they could get).
And CLE ATC sucks
pretty sure they are the last stop for washouts before they are shown the door.
where the initial call up to approach is:
"Jetlink 12345, slow to 170"
the excuse? This airport has been here since DC-3's were the norm and we never learned to sequence traffic at faster speeds
isn't that kinda slow for most jets?
and where "huh, do you want us to intercept this localizer?" is not an uncommon phrase uttered by pilots
@falstro only if they expect a descent out of us at the same time (and yes, they often did)
19:10
heh, "hey, this needle is moving... should that be happening?"
@casey well, approach usually wants you to descend, otherwise they're called departure ;)
and on more than one occasion I said to the controller "Look, you either need to descend us or clear us for the visual following the 737 at 2 o'clock. traffic in sight"
@casey ever told them "unable"?
and just to make CLE ATC seem worse, you were often coming there from EWR with a stop in the middle, and comparing N90 to CLE controllers just highlighted how bad they were
@falstro usually "which do you want? 170 or a 1000 ft/min descent, because you aren't getting both"
but usually they'd just forget a timely descent and clear you for the approach from an awkward location
fun!
@casey yeah, that's what I meant, did you ever give them an "unable" on the approach clearance, just to screw up their sequence? :)
@falstro nah, they were too good at screwing it up on their own. Even following their directions exactly, they often left you high and too close for a proper approach clearance. We'd hustle down and fix their problems, but sometimes it just didn't work out.
the only good time getting into CLE were getting put on long visuals following traffic. If they actually had to vector for the ILS you had to stay on your game to make sure they were going to get you under the GS before the FAF...
anyway, last time I flew in there was 2008, perhaps they've improved
I loved operating in EWR, until they moved our ops to terminal A...
19:27
@casey What airline was it?
@casey "Nah, just fly on through and the next sector will vector you back"
@Farhan ExpressJet d.b.a. Continental Express.
ExpressJet Airlines, Inc. is an American airline based in College Park, Georgia, USA in Greater Atlanta. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc., parent company of the air carrier SkyWest Airlines. Before the acquisition from SkyWest it was an independent airline, and previously, a subsidiary of Continental Airlines. ExpressJet Airlines, Inc., originally Continental Express, Inc., was a Delaware corporation. Although an autonomous business entity since its divestiture from Continental Airlines, Inc. in 2002, it continued to operate as Continental Express for Continental Airlines from hubs...
Callsign: ACEY?
@falstro callsign Jetlink, I was there before Skywest Holdings, Inc bought ExpressJet and gave the name to ASA
when I was there we were a Houston based company and we only operated EMB-134 and -145s (and in the past had operated ATR and EMB-120)
19:46
@casey ah, that makes sense, thanks
I guess this isn't very motivational:

@falstro "No evidence of post-crash fire" --[NTSB-to-English]--> "A-yup, fuel exhaustion again..."
@falstro I missed the context of that discussion other than that you guys were making a list of mistakes
20:12
@Farhan I was referring to your image
20:27
@Farhan Clearly the pilot was on their way to a much-needed flight lesson. "I had to fly that low - how else could I read the signs?!"
20:41
@voretaq7 I must commend that the pilot was indeed flying low, without hitting the ground, and in the correct direction. Stupid tree came in front at the last moment.
Never Trust An Elf Trees!
