happy new year to everyone!
story I heard from my father in these days: 16yo student at its first flight experiences decides to make the medical. Problem: the student has an attitude of "I can do everything and if something is wrong is someone-else's fault" and thus decides to take the first class medical instead of the suggested second class.
Guess what? He does not pass the psychological evaluation and is because "the psychiatrist was against" him... <_< kids.

@Federico Interesting. My class 1 did not require a psych eval

@falstro since I have done no medical I can't tell what are the rules here, but if I understand correctly, here is standard, as my father was not surprised to hear about it.

@Federico "here" being... italy now?

@falstro yeah, sorry. My father is an instructor in Rome

gotcha

on a completely unrelated note, I think I want one of these:

@El'endiaStarman Maybe? We have a question about holding your breath during decompression. Offhand I would guess in a normal descent a normal person couldn't hold their breath long enough for it to matter.

@falstro @fooot and everyone else that helped me out on Friday - I flew a few more flights over the weekend, and turns out "I was doing it wrong"!
Shortly after takeoff, I will get a heading until out of the airport area, and then I was missing/not-understanding ATC's "and continue" instruction (was listening for "resume own navigation" or similar)... so I was being instructed to resume my own navigation, but not hearing/understanding that, I would continue to fly that heading until ATC probably realized I was way off course, and issued another correction heading.
IRL, I'd probably get yelled at by ATC or get in trouble, but in the simulator, it doesn't mention anything is off.
so, now i know, and flew several flights using LNAV successfully until approach where I receive vectors. :)
so thanks for your help everyone!

@SnakeDoc Glad you got it working!

@fooot Hmm. The gist of it is that I got hiccups while my flight was descending, so I decided to take a really deep breath and hold it while arching my back - a technique for eliminating hiccups that has worked for me more often than not. I ended up feeling high pressure over my whole head and my mind was really fuzzy. I don't think I've ever experienced that on the ground, though perhaps I did experience a mild version of it.
Hence, the question if the increasing pressure (or perhaps just the lower pressure) had anything to do with it. I just wasn't sure if Aviation.SE was the right place for such a question since it's really more of a human physiology thing.

Since we have questions about the decompression part it seems to me that your question should be on topic here.

@FreeMan Heh. Wat..? :P

6:40 PM
@falstro I just realized that has an image with it, though I haven't a clue what it is. Stupid work blocks imgur. :(

@FreeMan You're missing some impressive portrait shots of the qualified candidate :P

7:20 PM
@fooot, I can only imagine... :/

8:05 PM
@FreeMan Actually, it is quite a nice portrait photo. It's just.....in a really weird place.
@SnakeDoc Another option, that I personally prefer, is PilotEdge.com. Which covers a much smaller area, but they actually have paid ATC personal who work with you to learn how to better use ATC. It's subscription based, but it's an excellent way to learn.
@SnakeDoc pilotedge.net

@JayCarr It is a nice portrait! Yes, Aviation.SE is a weird place to post a resume/picture.

@FreeMan Yuuuuuup
