rbp
12:31 AM
@BretCopeland maybe we can grab lunch one day, talk flying and SE

12:44 AM
@rbp just come over to Stack for lunch sometime. Let me know when. Most days are fine.
I keep trying to get @voretaq7 to come for lunch, but he never does.

Hello all, can't stop, just throwing this out there:
someone's put a few of the new Mayday/Air Crash Investigation's on YT

1:45 AM
@DannyBeckett Nice
@BretCopeland This statement is geographically incorrect.

2:11 AM
@Farhan oh, haha, Broadway and John is what I meant. I'm at the Fulton stop.

4 hours later…
5:44 AM
Hi, everyone.

6:19 AM
hey there

7:07 AM
hey

2 hours later…
9:28 AM
I wonder if the BBC could be convinced to make a show like Top Gear but with aircraft instead of cars.

@DanHulme well, top gear does feature the occasional aircraft :) i believe may has an airplane license and hammond has a helicopter license

it's just that aircraft porn appeals to me a lot more now

Yeah. Market is pretty small though I guess.
The only aviation related that sells is crap like airplane repo and stuff like that i guess ;)

nah, there are a lot more wannabe flyers than pilots
that's how Top Gear got so popular
they never really reviewed the high-end sports cars: they gave the audience an idea of what it feels like to drive one
the market for dreaming of owning a Ferrari is orders of magnitude larger than the market for Ferraris, and aircraft are no different

Good point
Heh. Just watching the mayday episode with the resolute bay crash, and they have an animation explaining ILS, only they use the antennas at the wrong end of the runway (effectively the back course localizer) :)

3 hours later…
1:05 PM
speaking of animations, there were narrated animations in MSFS 98 (yes! that's the first sim i played!) which explains VOR, ILS, PAPI etc. Short videos but crystal clear, better than reading 2 pages of text.

@Farhan @BretCopeland although fulton & john don't intersect, they are short enough that its still descriptive enough. Bret, pm me bob@pasker.net

3 hours later…

rbp
@DanHulme only on chat

next we'll be calling controllers mods

1 hour later…
7:27 PM
@DanHulme Your flight plan was closed as Not Constructive. Go land at the nearest airport.

rbp
7:56 PM

8:21 PM

rbp

rbp

no aviation connection whatsoever

rbp
ha
well, congrats then!

8:23 PM
:)

rbp
i am going to fly glider sightseeing rides this summer in the Teton mountains

@rbp I heard, sounds like a sweet gig

rbp
@falstro thanks, i'm pretty excited about it
i am going to work on the CFI-G

@rbp will those be aerobatic rides as well or just sightseeing?

rbp
@falstro sightseeing
@falstro evidenty most people want an adventure, not a roller coaster ride
afternoons can be pretty bumpy as it is

8:36 PM
ok
the occasional roll can be quite the adventure too though ;)

rbp
i think the superblaniks can no longer do aerobatics

"no longer"?

rbp
@falstro yes, some airframes developed cracks

ouch

@DannyBeckett very lucky
not sure I'd picked the street

@falstro indeed, no traffic.. god was on his side that day ;)

glad it worked out ok
if you look closely, you'll see the power/telephone lines running along the street as well

yeah, his instructor's only scared at the very end when he turns and might clip a telegraph pole lol

2 hours later…
11:35 PM
@falstro SSDs are really nice. I got for my home machine and now it boots up on 20 seconds.
@DannyBeckett Landing was really fast. Great skills btw.
