@ThomasMarkov I basically try to include all relevant evidence/information that I can find in my answer, whether or not I agree with it. I think it's generally better to address all arguments (and potentially refute them if I disagree) than just ignore the ones I don't like. That said, I definitely agree that answers shouldn't rely solely/primarily on Crawford tweets.

Q: Long Rest interrupted AFTER 4 hour Trance

AiratomeNow that there has been strict errata saying an Elf DOES indeed finish a Long Rest after 4 hours if they decide to meditate through Trance, I assume this also means they are forced to gain the benefits of that long Rest after only 4 hours? If this is indeed the case, if a party with one Elf and 3...

@G.Moylan They do for compendium pages (it's the caret symbol/up arrow thingy that stays in the bottom right of the page as you scroll down). I think the race/class/etc. listings still have the older interface in which there's a "Back to Top" link at the top of the table of contents itself.
...I should probably have read your followup messages before I replied :P

Q: As a GM, how do I make sure a self-contained session (an episode or one-shot) reaches its completion within the designated session length?

GadiantonI'd like to convert my campaign over to more of an episodic format -- a complete hook, story, and conclusion in each session, with each session feeding into a bigger story/arc, just like a TV series. The part I'm struggling with is how to manage/manipulate time so that we complete an episode with...

Q: Can you cast cantrips normally with the magic initiate?

KokosnetIf you choose the magic initiate feat you get 2 cantrips and a 1st level spell. Can you cast normally or do you need to take a rest between casting the cantrips

It's probably not possible to automate data-gathering on self-deleted answers, huh.
(I'm wondering about the different ratios of self-deleted answers across different tags.)

2:04 AM
@BESW Is there any way that data might be retrievable using SEDE? (I sadly don't know enough about SEDE to really know the answer to that.)
Also, I don't recall if it has been linked here (...a search for the post ID only points out a jokey comment from that post that was linked here, so I don't think it has), but this post may be of interest to some here:

Q: Magic wand time - what does your community need? (More questions from the Community VP)

PhilippeContinuing in my series of questions to you: Last week, I heard some great origin stories. This week, I’d like to refocus a bit on what could be better (in your view). I’m very curious about whether we’ll find near universal agreement or if we’ll discover that different communities have very di...

Folks from the RPG.SE community may want to share their throughts on what RPG.SE needs:
> If you had a magic wand that you could wave that would let you fix ONE thing that would help your community (not the network, not the company, but the specific site community with which you most closely identify) overnight, what would you change (and why?), and what would the result look like - how would we know it was different?

@V2Blast Better safety tools like blocking and reporting, and better active support for them from (non-volunteer) trained employees. The Stack isn't just uninterested in the safety of individual users, the tools it offers can actually increase risk.
(see: the absolute nightmare that is chat flagging, but also the laughably inept "ignore" function, and the fact that I've seen people wait MONTHS for responses to queries about the abuse of moderation privileges)

@BESW That might actually be possible. I’ve got a script for scraping deleted answers, I might be able to pick out self deletes.

BESW's Adventures in Cooking: I used fina'dene' in my pesto for the salt and to change the spice profile. It was great.

3:41 AM
why not just put fina'dene on pasta directly :P
you've gotta food goblin sometimes

@BESW I had to Google that... It looks amazing

@AncientSwordRage It's pretty great. I make it for our weekly dinner of fresh local fish, and I make enough to last the rest of the week to eat with dumplings, fried rice, etc.

it's so good
you can put it on so many things and it's just good
XD

Troggy... sometimes I put ginger in it.

@BESW I'll have to try making it some time

Possibly weird idea-gen time: If there's a character option called Light Rogue, what would expect/want them to get/be able to?

4:53 PM
@Someone_Evil A Light Rogue? Armed with a plasma-blade of aquamarin or teal color, piloting a fighter plane and able to hit a yard-sized target from 50 yards without target assist from it.

5:30 PM
1. A rogue which somehow learned Wukong's trick of getting lighter by reducing density.
2. A rogue in Azeroth who is very faithful to the worship of Light.

5:40 PM
Probably closer to vicky's 2., but fair to you both the associations :)
Actually, something lightsaber-y might not be a bad idea

@Someone_Evil Sorry for the long flag, but it is what it is. I’m available to chat further in private if you feel the need.

Q: What proficiencies do you need to craft Serpent Scale armor

Nil NoxMy DM said I need both Smith's Tool and Leatherworker's Tool because there's both metal and serpent scales needed to craft it. If it's ruled out as DM discretion what type of armour can you specifically craft with Smith's tool and Leatherworker's Tool?

6:52 PM
@Someone_Evil So am I completely misunderstanding what it means for an answer to be supported?

I don't think so. There's a fair bit of case and judgement to it
What get's talked about most often is for cases where there's direct 'points' in the source material to link to, but not quite everything falls into that bracket

@Someone_Evil Right, I’m not expecting every lore answer to be accompanied by gratuitous quotes. But like “this is summarized from this chapter from this book and this chapter from this book” would do plenty of lifting.

@BESW you tell me this but haven't handed it all over to me as my rightful due, so I guess you have decided to be a criminal

Right now the only thing resembling a citation in that answer is “2nd Edition”.

@ThomasMarkov Well, implicitly the Spelljammer books for 2e. I'm given to understand 2e was fairly split into its settings

7:07 PM
@Someone_Evil Even that would do some work as a starting point for support, but that isn’t explained.
@Someone_Evil So is my understanding that the answer is totally unsupported correct, way off, kinda sorta right, or something else? I feel like I need a sanity check every time this comes up.

Q: Why is there an RPG.SE Meta question listed as an upcoming event?

PikalekOn the right hand column of RPG.SE, there's a meta question with an "Upcoming events" header rather than the expected "Featured on Meta" as shown below: Similarly on meta: Is this a bug of some kind?

7:39 PM
@ThomasMarkov I think it's source pointer (ie. citation) is a touch oblique, but I'm not sure that's coming across in my comments
Clearly I need to get better at remembering my nots

9:45 PM
@ThomasMarkov That answer grew in telling. I also offered a shameless plug for Delta's D&D hotspot, since I like how he does his OD&D thing.

10:05 PM
Do we have an appropriate tag for the kind of "player agency" discussed here?

10:18 PM
@Akixkisu I couldn’t find an existing tag that felt right, but I also felt there should have been something.

@ThomasMarkov I feel the same way. Unfortunate that there isn't already a tag like that.

@Akixkisu let’s invent one
is related somewhat

@Someone_Evil Luke's Statblock from SWd20 actually has Rogue levels :3

10:34 PM
@Someone_Evil I once had a 3.5 rogue who was a halfling with permanent reduce person and was small enough to use a modified-to-target-himself mage hand to levitate.

That's great, but light in the sense of luminescence as opposed to low density that was intended
Cursed homonyms!
Lightweightedness is covered by a different option, though I haven't found a better name for it than Small

@ThomasMarkov background, party, player agency, and are all loosely related, but this is distinct - I'm not in a mental state where I can verbalise concretely what that is (late hours after two weeks of grading).

@Akixkisu “character buy in” and “character motivation” get closer to what I’m thinking

10:50 PM
@ThomasMarkov that sounds good, I prefer character-motivation.
"Motivation" was what I had lingering in my brain, but it didn't seem to express it quite right.

@Akixkisu Wanna give a try?

@ThomasMarkov yes, at the moment it seems suitable and not covered by anything else.

@Akixkisu That's... looking for narrative solutions to a table-level problem. oof.

@BESW complicated yes, but I don't think that it is an x y issue.

@Someone_Evil Gordian wouldn't have appreciated being called "light," though. Almost all his powers (including teleportation and invisibility) only worked in at least partial shadow, so he carried a darkrock (a rock with permanent darkness, the opposite of a sunrod). Maybe a light rogue has blinding-light obscurity powers?

11:05 PM
Now I feel silly for not thinking about that... That's very good

(And cannot hide in the dark because they have like a permanent faerie fire effect?)

I haven't operated with drawbacks on this options in general. I currently have them at being able to hide unimpeded by bright light, though I'm not sure Imma have the mechanics to support that. They also have the ability to create light and I'd want to steer away from weird things like being better at sneaking when there's an orb of light on them
I also want to preserve the ability to combine Light with Shadow, so I'm also trying to avoid non-bos (spelling?)

11:40 PM
@ThomasMarkov I'd also suggest adding a tag wiki describing what the tag is about/what sort of questions it should be on :)

@V2Blast yeah, workin on it.

@ThomasMarkov :thumbsup:

This is harder than coming up with the tag name.

Haha, it often is
It may help to look at other questions that you foresee having the tag or not, and using that to help determine what you think is the "scope" of the tag

I guess I could come up with an adequate placeholder until I can think of something better.
@V2Blast yeah, I think I’m getting tunnel vision from having invented for one question.

11:48 PM
@ThomasMarkov I'd take a look and find older questions which should have them (and probably add to a few)

Q: About the Armorer Artificer's Infiltrator Armor?

Jhyarelle SilverThe Armorer Artificer's Infiltrator variant negates Disadvantages to Stealth(Dex) rolls if you are using medium to heavy armors like breast plate or full plate. Can you still gain advantages to you Stealth(dex) rolls by other means such dim light, shadows, darkness, cover, Cloak of Elvenkind or c...

Gonna give it a brief placeholder description and come back to it.
