This question was marked as duplicate because another question contains the answer in the question: https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/160162/how-are-spell-slots-for-a-fightereldritch-knight-3-roguearcane-trickster-3-det

Is that the way it's supposed to work? I thought the question and answer had to be the same?

Yeah, I don't think that should be a duplicate
You're asking a question whose answer is already understood by the asker of the linked one
But your confusion is understandable due to a discrepancy between the PHB and basic rules
This question's more about "where do the rules address multiclass spellcasting involving the EK/AT", not about "do multiclass spellcasters share slots".
I've reopened it now :)
On an unrelated note: Now that the final version of Lancer's rules are out, I'm encouraging some of the people in the Discord to post their rules questions here too :)

@jgn I have added your question to my recent meta question on the various questions about spell slots that we have

Q: D&D 5e multi-classing spellcasting duplicate questions cleanup/ideas

Medix2Currently the following question exists If I multiclass into 2 or more spellcasting classes, how do I determine my known/prepared spells? All of the following questions are currently marked as duplicates of the above one: Can you cast a 9th level spell if your multiclass spell slots have 9t...

hey there @KorvinStarmast, how're things going?

I currently have two questions (fifth edition dnd) about what happens when Wild Magic Surges trigger to cast spells you normally wouldn't be able to cast. One is during a Barbarian's Rage, the other is if you've already cast a bonus action spell. Should I try to fit these into one question?
Actually I don't think it's possible to cast a bonus action spell and then trigger a Magic Surge on the same turn, so I guess that answers that
@Medix2 why not?
> Once per turn, the DM can have you roll a d20 immediately after you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher.
works if the bonus-action spell is a sorc spell of 1st level or higher

Ah right, though perhaps then the ordering may be something of note
Ah no it says "after" so that should work then
I think I'll just ask them separately, though I'm unsure if I should ask both now or hold off on the one
@V2Blast Do you think they warrant being separate questions?
@Medix2 Maybe ask one, then wait to ask the other and see if the answer to one case already rules out the other?
they are different cases though so they might warrant separate questions if whatever allows/disallows them doesn't evenly apply to both
That sounds like a good call. I'll ask the Barbarian one then first

Q: A new Science Fantasy tabletop RPG!

GeorgeSmithI made a post last week for our new Science Fantasy tabletop RPG - Magic Vs Machines. This week we have been updating the website, working on a FREE PDF version of the rulebook (v0.01 is available for download on the downloads page), have spent some time play-testing the combat system and we have...

Q: What are the advantages of taking "Sculptor of Flesh" eldritch invocation over taking Polymorph as a spell?

LinkI think I misunderstand how the eldritch invocations that grant spells "using a warlock spell slot". Sculptor of Flesh Prerequisite: 7th level You can cast Polymorph once using a Warlock spell slot. You can’t do so again until you finish a Long Rest. Looking at the Warlock spell list...
