Q: How does Remove Curse affect Bestow Curse

amox6I may be looking too much into this, but I'm having issues interpreting Removes Curse's effect on Bestow Curse. Bestow Curse reads: You touch a creature, and that creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become cursed for the duration of the spell. When you cast this spell, choose th...

So I've recently realized the following two options result in the same thing:
> Text
>
> More text

AND

> Text [space, space]
> [space, space]
> More text

Is one of these preferred or more correct? Or is there some better way to express this question? I also can't find a way to change the first form into spoiler quotes.

Q: What are the ways my non-monk character can improve their unarmed damage?

TheikMy Goliath Barbarian / Fighter / Rogue hybrid killed somebody accidentally in a rage in their past, and has sworn an oath to never again wield a weapon to prevent accidentally killing somebody again if they fly of the rails. Problem is, this is still D&D, and punching people for 1+strength mod+2...

@Medix2 How much does this matter? I have asked before about duplicate questions and cleanup and the unanimous reply is that even minor variations on the question produce unique questions and they should be left.

When/where?
As my question shows, there are cases where questions can be different and duplicates, such as the multi-classing prepared/known spell question
A general question that prevents countless slightly different future questions is helpful
@jgn I've looked through your meta-questions and don't see ones asking about duplicate cleanup
@jgn Or at the very least I disagree with this unanimous reply as I find the question I mention (which currently has 11 duplicates) to be helpful. Though perhaps I've misunderstood what you meant?

Q: Can I cast Haste on myself?

JD AveryCan my character cast the spell Haste on himself or can it only be cast on another character?

@Medix2 You could even leave out the line in between with > entirely and it'd work the same. That said, I think the idea is that two spaces and one enter starts a new line, but hitting enter twice starts a new paragraph.
That said, formatting multi-line spoiler tags gets wonky; I think it works if you type >! at the start of each spoilered line/paragraph, and type two spaces and hit enter once at the end of each line/paragraph to start a new line. You can do this twice to effectively space it like a new paragraph.

Q: What can an Invisible PC do to take the "Help" action and remain invisible?

Michael van der VeldtMy wizard ally wants to go invisible and use the "Help" action to help attacks while remaining invisible. My DM ruled that physical interaction with the enemy would constitute an action that breaks invisibility. I was thinking of using the same action on my invisible imp familiar. What specifica...

I have a quick question before I need to leave for todays session. Does cold weather clothing go over or under armor? A character wants wear a suit of shiftweave containing a cold weather outfit. And also wear their half plate.

GM fiat

I'd say under is the sensible option

But I mean like historically in medieval times.
Were they just wearing heavy cloaks and regular underclothes.

I think people typically included thicker clothes with their armor for extra effectiveness and comfort, but no idea where I heard it from
So if you could afford armor, you might have specific clothes to wear under it too

I would think that you might have a couple of winter layers under your gambeson (kind of like thermal underwear), then your gambeson (padded jack/tunic) + misc. padded pieces, then your halfplate, then possibly a tabard if one was desired for coat-of-arms purposes, and then your cloak over the top of it all. probably fur boots and gloves to go with the halfplate

4:18 PM
Okay thanks. Cya have a nice day everyone

Have fun at your session!

(that, btw, is just based on basic cold-weather and armor theory :) don't have a period source for any of it, but it's the kind of thing that'd be considered pretty common sense by someone back in the day who wore such, I reckon)
@kviiri you are correct that armor needs padding layers...no different then than now, even, really!

Q: RAW, can a 3rd level sword-and-board eldritch knight usefully cast Absorb Elements?

DM_with_secretsI often see Absorb Elements (AE) mentioned as a useful spell for an Eldritch Knight (EK), because it gives you temporary resistance to one type of damage and lets you add that type of damage to your next melee attack. However, it has somatic components, which require a free hand to perform. With...

My friend is trying to form an RPG where features and abilities are obtained through events and RP such as apprenticeships and finding books of knowledge. Anybody know any RPGs that have done anything even somewhat similar?

@Medix2 Ars Magica, vaguely along those lines?

@Medix2 There's a TON of games which do that out of the box, or are at least built to support it as one of the methods of development, ranging from Fate to Ars Magica.

@BESW @vicky_molokh Those are both actually really helpful, I'd completely forgotten about them! thank you

Rayman Legends is free until December 6: https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/rayman-legends/home
The week after that, Jotun: Valhalla Edition will be free for a week.

@Medix2 I also suggest checking out Bell Songs.
During downtime, everyone chooses one thing which advances or restores a resource: training with another PC, bonding with another PC, attending a great feast, caring for each others' wounds, building or repairing something in your home, or chronicling your adventures.

As much as I like getting Epic's free games the company and their policies (especially user privacy) are abysmal

(And Bell Songs is half off right now because of rpgnatalie's "It is Dark and Cold" sale!)

@Medix2 Yeah, I pretty much only use it for free games

Oliver Thorn just did a video essay about economics using the video game industry as a case study, which mentioned Epic Games specifically.

10:22 PM
Though both Legends and Jotun are great games. It's been somewhat funny watching them release free games when I already own most of them

I'd be more tempted to shake hands with the devil if the devil was offering games on operating systems I have access to.
But I'm locked into the Apple ecosystem by another tendency toward monopoly that dominates my own industry.

@Medix2 I asked in chat, you may be able to find the conversation with search

The links in the recent dust devil question are copyright violating, correct?

Not anymore lol

10:57 PM
I fixed it without comment (beyond the edit description) because the question doesn't depend on it. I don't think it worth making a deal out of it, assuming the querent simply used whatever links they had to hand, without thinking about legality of those.

11:23 PM
@Someone_Evil Yeah, I'd say it's all good.

I just wasn't sure, the only sites I know are non-copyright-infringing are roll20 and dndbeyond

@Medix2 I think Fantasy Grounds has a license too

@V2Blast Ah yes, I forgot about that one!

but yes, the other links that were in that question were to sites rehosting non-SRD content
Note that dust devil is in the EEPC, though, so it is freely accessibly there or on D&D Beyond
hmm
What should I name the tag for my question about the recently "released" Lancer RPG?
Debating between and .
the game's actually titled "Lancer", but I dunno if it'd cause confusion with things called "lancers" in other RPGs to have the tag just be

11:40 PM
I'd go with to avoid the confusion with a common multi-system term. It'll come up in searches for just "lancer," and "Lancer RPG" is how it's being marketed on a lot of social media.

I'd probably look at other system tags for reference, such as Fate simply using [fate] and not [fate-rpg]

I'd go lancer-rpg
otherwise it's just going to get accidentally used on other questions

Yeah lancer-rpg seems good just since it is a term in other games unlike most of the other system names

it's still succinct and unambiguous

Fair enough!

11:48 PM
I've almost never seen used for something other than the system, and if it becomes a problem we'll re-name the tag. Precedent is only valid if it's actually proving that something works.
It's reasonable to think would have more inter-system mechanical use than .
(And "Lancer RPG" is already in use; "Fate RPG" is not.)

@BESW Yeah, Fate wasn't a great example, since it isn't much of a term besides the system itself, it was more to showcase my method

Yeah, it's very useful to look at existing practices for ideas, but the Stack approach to tags is very individual. Generally we're expected to just tag however it strikes us, and fix when a problem arises.
(I've been on betas where people try to invent strict tagging practices and it always falls to pieces because the system's infrastructure just isn't built to sustain it.)
(lit.se toyed with author, title, genre, and region/culture tags!)

to be fair "lancer" as a term has barely been used to begin with on RPG.SE
folksonomy is a fun word

Folksonomy does do a good job of avoiding wastebin groups though, unlike taxonomy
