@BESW I hear that there was the perception that my statement was condescending. It was not intending to be so.
I think people here are already well aware that you think we're overly sensitive.
GcL
GcL
@BESW I did not state that is what I think. Nor is that what I think.
I have a pretty high opinion of the denizens of this chat. It's one of the only ones regularly engage in.
[shrug] Then stop doing things like threatening to test compassionate policies to destruction, or demanding that people demonstrate to you, personally, that they understand that a tolerant community cannot tolerate intolerance.
Thank you @NautArch and @BESW
This is a pattern I've been watching for some time, that you call out the risks of compassionate activities but not the risks of other kinds of action, and I've hoped that you'd get bored with it because nobody takes the bait.
Well, somebody took the bait this time and I'm in a really grumpy mood. Stop it.
I enjoy your presence otherwise, I'm not asking you to leave the chat, but this poking and prodding at our long-established commitment to being a welcoming and friendly space on a site that's made a policy of being downright unfriendly, is not welcome.
GcL
GcL
15:05
@BESW I do not agree with that assessment at all.
Then, please, consider how people you have a high opinion of, might have arrived at such an inaccurate understanding of your behavior.
You don't have to justify yourself or say anything at all. Just stop badgering people about the consequences of proactive compassion.
GcL
GcL
@BESW Some of the assumptions of how that conclusion was arrived at are less than charitable, and I would be remiss to assume they're the reality of the situation. At least not without directly asking about my assumptions.
yeah, well. I'm not in a very charitable mood right now, since this time last week you accused me of being so unwilling to "contemplate real world disasters and dealing with them via role play" that I would excise any discussion of it from the chat for my own ease of mind.
That's not exactly a sign of high opinions either.
GcL
GcL
@BESW I found role play and science fiction have been rather manageable ways to handle the very terrifying and real aspects of the world we live in.
And if you've been paying attention to me in this chat, you'd know I feel the same way.
GcL
GcL
15:12
@BESW I don't recall accusing you of being unwilling to do anything.
Moving those messages had nothing to do with my personal feelings or opinions on the topic. It had everything to do with where the conversation was being held.
in Nukes, Jul 2 at 3:25, by GcL
@BESW This is because you don't want to contemplate real world disasters and dealing with them via role play?
GcL
GcL
@BESW That was a question about your view of it. I did not assume which way you felt, so I asked directly.
I'm not going to re-litigate old conversations. I'm asking you to be more careful going forward about expecting that people justify themselves to you. Which is what I walked in on tonight.
Ugh, dndbeyond's search is really pretty awful
It really is
15:16
@DucksGoMooful just searched 'recuperating' for this question.
no results
@NautArch true, though it is linked in the question body :P
but yeah I tried searching for Reaction the other day and all it would give me was how monster reactions worked, nothing for PCs
GcL
GcL
@BESW My perceptions was not that I was demanding justification. My perception was that we were discussing consequences of action vs inaction.
@G.Moylan SDJZ had to help track it down and we could then eventually use the link but he only got search results through google with the site:dndbeyond tag
Look. I'm sorry, I'm in a really foul mood. Let's back up. You're having some trouble with presentation, and your questions are coming across as interrogation and accusation. That's not working for anybody. Everybody else is gonna be defensive and either ignore you or lash out, and you're not gonna get the conversations you want.
@G.Moylan Yeah, but I was looking to see if it was covered elsewhere.
15:19
@NautArch does google's site search work any better?
GcL
GcL
@BESW I appreciate the feedback of your perspective.
I just walked in on a conversation where you were asking persistent, repetitive questions with barely-related and unsupported anecdotes that seemed to be advocating inaction on an obviously bad actor, while others were trying to steer the conversation toward practical concerns and you weren't letting it.
@NautArch not yet, and it's in Finnish :)
Are you in a fowl mood in addition to this, or just this?

getting to: what else is going on? You alright?
@kviiri rough translation?
to the tune of?
@goodguy5 ooh, haven't tried doing that.
it seems like with dndbeyond you need to search exactly what they have. Which I get, but then sometimes (like with recuperating), nothing comes up.
15:22
@NautArch recuperate
@NautArch if it isn't the moomin theme I will be disappointed
that's the word used in most things
when I searched "reaction" the other day I got all the MM results for each creature with an actual reaction. I got nothing regarding the rules I was actually looking for
@goodguy5 the title of the section in the rules is "Recuperating" though
@goodguy5 yeah, that works. Which is weird because the section title is "recuperating"
15:29
That recuperation question seems like edition-bleed/edition-holdover
15:39
@NautArch It's basically one of those excessively pompous personal flattery pieces :) I can post it once I get on my computer
16:02
@kviiri You're a bard? :D
@goodguy5 Even more problematic that some of their examples provide save options for them. Which can be done basically every 6 seconds.
@NautArch Personally, yes, but my character is a rogue
@goodguy5 See, the problem with your ritual is that my boss used a higher spell slot than you.
Stupid question: how do I grab the actual image (.jpg) from an instagram post? I need to give the photo from a post of mine to the editor of a newsletter.
GcL
GcL
@nitsua60 Your browser's inspect element option might be the most expedient method for a one-off
@nitsua60 Have you tried right click -> save image as or something similar depending on the browser?
GcL
GcL
16:12
The page can use some tricks to prevent you from easily interacting with the image via the mouse on the page, but it still had to provide the data for the image.
@Sdjz Yes--it's just letting me access the page, not the image/element.
Can you share the post in question?
@nitsua60 Depending on browser, you can inspect the element to view the HTML, and grab the image directly, bypassing whatever is preventing you from selecting the image normally
@MikeQ Yeah, I'm in that dashboard now....
16:15
@Sdjz You're a mensch =)
aw beat me
but to teach a man to fish.
Right click, view source (I use chrome, different browsers may word it differently).
Then expand the html element and look for a picture link
GcL
GcL
Currently, you're looking for <img class="FFVAD"
@goodguy5 Yeah, I was getting lost in the weeds navigating the HTML elements. Lotsa margins and padding, not so much with the <img> =)
GcL
GcL
I usually right click to inspect element then look around the sibling elements... so up or down on level in the html hierarchy. Some sites are sneaky about how they bury the links.
In this case the image was inside the <div> just before the the one that the inspected elements selects
16:26
@BESW Is this one of those cases where the monograph takes the writer's world building more seriously than the writer did?
GcL
GcL
@KorvinStarmast I recall a few genetics publications that were using the Harry Potter universe for their work.
@G.Moylan can you explain that to me? I have no idea what makes that derogatory. thot/th0t?
@KorvinStarmast "That Ho Over There"
Mods can delete if needed.
@KorvinStarmast Urban Dictionary is your frenemy for that type of question :)
kids these days
@KorvinStarmast Maybe don't look it up on a work computer
16:35
@NautArch Urban Dictionary has so many bad entries it's hard to take it seriously most of the time
@DucksGoMooful yeah, but you can generally figure out which one is the common use
@NautArch Ok, I just looked it up, and the context, and its origin. Huh. Learn something new every day. Not being a rap fan, no wonder I missed the reference. Thanks to all for the help. I am now more aware and better understand the previous conversatoin. Now, what do we do about the new user whose handle is buttsicle? I just rolled my eyes, but should someone raise a flag?
I saw it on and answer the other day and figured "oh well, that's the internet for you."
Is there a general SE policy for handling potentially offensive usernames?
16
Q: How much leeway do we give possibly offensive usernames?

BohemianThe username of this user is "Assh O. Le". However, in his defence he has racked up 420 reputation and 19 bronze badges, so he's not without some merit. Should this be allowed as a "humorous" moniker? Would we be overly prudish to disallow it? Personally, I think this is going too far to be co...

@MikeQ I am not sure, but I think Seven told me something a few years back when I asked the question. I just forgot. Thanks @DavidCoffron
16:45
@DavidCoffron that's incredibly unhelpful Q&A
Is willing as a game term game specific?
@NautArch I think so. We have a question about it for 5e that has 5e-specific answers at least
@NautArch Yeah, which may mean there is no general policy (CC: @MikeQ)
Buttsicle is more crass than anything. My issue with the other name is it is directly derogatory
@DavidCoffron yeah, and there's a comment about previous editions that directly applies
@NautArch It's from six years ago and thus before the "code of conduct" attempts, so it is from a time where I suspect the norms of SE/SO were a bit different than they are becoming. My dos centavos My opinion is that it's the old "case by case" thing.
@KorvinStarmast yeah, same. buttsicle seems silly and harmless. But the new one...
16:51
@G.Moylan Yep, got it.
alright, everyone, let's just cool down our buttsicles.
maybe a buttsicle is a product for butt cooling
@goodguy5 If I had a buttsicle, it would already be cooled down. You have to store them in the freezer.
@goodguy5 already cool
darnit @KorvinStarmast!
I wonder if there is a metric for gauging a word or phrase's offensiveness
16:52
I hope not
@KorvinStarmast By the way..currently enjoying leftover smoked brisket. My first one i've made in a few years :)
@MikeQ I'm sure there is some literature somewhere, but I wouldn't put much stake in it
GcL
GcL
@DavidCoffron if garlic doesn't affect it either, then we might as well move on to silver
@GcL I have no words
16:54
@NautArch that your brisket?
@NautArch stay where you are, I'm converging on your location
@G.Moylan yup
@NautArch how long?
@G.Moylan 14lbs, 14 hours. Went faster than expected.
@NautArch nice! We've only done 1 so far. The burnt ends came out waaay better than the brisket did, though. Still dialing it in
16:57
@G.Moylan what do you smoke in?
I cut the burnt ends off and just dump them into a can on of bush's baked beans.
@NautArch Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5
you?
@G.Moylan Nice! THat's what I'm using. I'd love to move on, but the next step up is pricey.
pellet?
I've generally found regular kingsford briquettes to be best.
@NautArch Yummy. We did chicken, sausage, and rib eye for 4th july, and have leftovers. Mesquite always used on my grill ... darn, why am I hungry all of a sudden?
16:58
@KorvinStarmast I used pecan wood for beef smoking
cherry for pork
and chicken
@NautArch Kingsford Blue is the only charcoal I buy and I buy in bulk
All this food talk... I have another 30 mins before my lunch xD
@G.Moylan same. When I first started out, I"d heard really good things about kingsford competition. But I didn't get as steady temps with it.
My smoker seems to have totally settled in and I rarely ever have to adjust the vents. Full open.
@NautArch oh man mine would blaze through the coal so fast
@NautArch Aha, I shall discuss that with the missus. She is tiring of mesquite ... Pecan for beef, cherry for pork and chicken. Got it. I tried hickory once and she gave it a thumbs down.
17:00
@G.Moylan A bag of coal pretty much got me through 14 hours.
Lit it at 5pm. Started smoking 6. Added coals and water at midnight. Took it off at 8AM.
@NautArch what did you use for a rub? Salt and pepper, or other stuff too? Franklin's seems to swear by salt and pepper being enough.
(A buddy of mine went to the "Brisket School" Franklin's gives in Austin)
I stopped using water. I still get steady temps through the majority of the smoke. Ive done only 1 brisket like that, but done some butts, ribs, chicken, and sausages like that and had good luck
@KorvinStarmast For my beef rub, I also have paprika, mustard powder, cayenne, and dark brown sugar.
A butt-sickle, however can be very dangerous
17:02
That's an interesting picture to open chat up to.
@G.Moylan Really? Doy ou keep the bowl in?
@NautArch I am taking notes, I have been tasked with doing brisket before summer is over. That looks like a great combo.
@williamporter it makes sense in the context of the past half hour
I bet, it's just like walking into an out of context sentence in a conversation when you walk into a room though.
@KorvinStarmast I'm really happy with the bark flavor. I also grind the pepper very coarse. And use A LOT.
17:03
@NautArch I do. I still foil it or it will get gross, but yeah I leave the bowl in it's just empty
@NautArch nods When we do the fund raisers at church, brisket plates, we do the same with the ground black peppper. Fresh grind and use a lot with coarse salt.
IMO we should add paprika, but since we usually smoke it over mesquite (we chop the logs the day ahead of time) there's a lot of flavor/smokey already in it.
I used post oak on my last brisket and I typically use pecan on the ribs so far. Ribs came out good but the beef came out... weird
Went ahead and bought this.

A 2-3 1st level adventures, a couple "tier one adventures"
4-5 "tier 2" adventures

and 1-2 level 7+ adventures.

The tome of horrors is good.

Various map resources, if you're into that sort of thing.

Overall great buy of $15, but like in any humble bundle, I'm not going to use large swathes of it.
the treasure charts look interesting
I haven't purchased yet but I intend to
7:46 PM
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/beast-of-a-bundle-fifth-edition-books
17:09
I felt like the crit charts were distractingly unneeded.

The treasure chart is okay. Might use it, we'll see.
OK, for context
@KorvinStarmast Sorry, XD. I saw that it was a reply
I gave up crit charts in 1990 and never looked back.
@KorvinStarmast Yeah. I prefer to just use narration to make the crits feel meaningful
I DO like crit charts in death watch (and I assume all of the 40k games)
And, while we're talking Ribs, I started doing crock-pot ribs and they turn out fantastic.

You obviously don't get the smoke, but, overall very good and VERY low effort.
If you want ribs, but don't have a bunch of time to mess with them....
17:11
@goodguy5 pretty easy and definitely cheaper than a smoker
@KorvinStarmast by the way, the group I was gonna roll in some homebrew was dissolved
Wait, for 15 bucks you get 50 items?
@KorvinStarmast yes
@DavidCoffron Sorry to hear that, I still need to make another tweak to that druid
@G.Moylan I'll check when I get home. Seems a decent deal, with some wheat and some chaffe.
17:13
@KorvinStarmast that was my conclusion as well
@G.Moylan Interesting. Did you have any issues with dryness?
@NautArch the beef was dry but I also didn't wrap it and I think that was my problem. The pork comes out fine
@G.Moylan I don't wrap anything ever.
I don't wrap my pork anymore. I did the first time around and it was just more work than it was worth
and I think it comes out just as good if not better
does this site do mini recommendations?
As in miniature figures?
17:15
@KorvinStarmast yes
I think that got whacked with "shopping question" a few years back.
@KorvinStarmast makes sense.
@G.Moylan Only in chat, probably
I think you're best off to ask here
Not sure how to ask a mini question without it getting closed, but in chat nobody can close you down.
17:17
well my predicament is the PC minotaur race in the Ravnica book is medium, but all the "monster" minotaurs are large, so there aren't many medium minotaurs to pick from. In fact, I think I've found 1 and it's NOT what I'm looking for
There could be stackable questions about customizing/printing minis, although that may overlap with some other stacks like 3D Printing SE
@G.Moylan satyr?
GcL
GcL
@G.Moylan minitaur vs minotaur?
with or without horns?
@DavidCoffron nope minotaur. Horns. Cow-person.
GcL
GcL
17:18
@goodguy5 Isn't that feat one you get from messing with bulls ?
@GcL lol
@G.Moylan have you tried making one over on hero forge?
Might be a bit pricey, but you can get most of what you want.
@KorvinStarmast I could but I don't have paint skills
Ah. that complicates matters.
yeah I was thinking I could probably find something on Reaper, Dark Sword, or Heroforge, or even old Warhammer fantasy figures, but they would all need paint
17:21
medium size base is what? 1"?
yes
I could always surgically alter a mini with a new base, but I'm not sure how I feel about that
dang, I found one with 1.5
@G.Moylan Yeah, wrapping just makes the bark wet instead of bark.
@NautArch more of a soft woof
17:23
I think this BASE is 1", but the arms are bulky:

https://www.amazon.com/Reaper-Miniatures-Minotaur-77501-Figure/dp/B079556FDL
@goodguy5 ah yeah I saw that one. It's not bad but I'm also looking for armored. I'm guessing I'm going to have to go for something custom or obscure. I'll probably have to get it painted by someone else. I want this to be a character mini
@goodguy5 hmm
I played a one-shot over the weekend and I really enjoyed playing Kraghuf Theritiz
@G.Moylan he immediately became my backup character for the campaign I'm playing in
@goodguy5 oh hello...
Forge Cleric 6/GW Fighter 1, GWM feat. LOTS of damage. I cast only 3 spells and dealt over 250 damage in about 10 - 12 rounds. Mostly just brained people with the weapon, but Spirit Guardians, Spiritual Weapon, and a well-placed Heat Metal did some very heavy lifting
17:31
@G.Moylan Average of 24 damage/round? That's not too bad without much resource expenditure.
@NautArch yeah I thought so, too. 3 spell slots and swingin' the maul
My old paladin was a freaking nightmare. GWM/GWF/PAM. 3-4 attacks/turn, each getting +15 damage as a baseline with my STR/GWM
@NautArch that's nasty
@G.Moylan And that's without dropping smites. :)
@NautArch !!
17:34
It also helped that I had a +3 glaive. SO really, it was a base of 1d10+18 (1d4 for the PAM bonus action.)
Yeah, it's not quite where a Champion fighter ends up at level 20, but it's pretty dang close, and also has all the supporting features of a paladin.
@Xirema Very true - and those supporting features are really fun :) But so is critting on a 4th level divine smite.
I miss 4x crit weapons....
@goodguy5 I think my record was 120something. Maybe 130something.
Barbarian with Power attack, 22 strength, and rage wielding a scythe.... and I think the wizard had cast bull str on me.

(4+6+2+2)*1.5 = 21
then (21+2d4)*4

I feel like I remember cresting 100.
And the wizard wants to complain about it and the DM has to remind her "This is the only thing he does; you literally shoot balls of fire"
17:44
@goodguy5 hahaha :)
I think I had also saved up two big magic items for the final battle of the 6 year campaign. One of them I"d had for a couple years. A potion of Storm Giant strength (increased my modifier from +5 to +9) and an oil of sharpness (another +3 onto the weapon.)
nice
18:13
@Xirema Pinging you as one of the resident statisticians. On this question, and I guess for others, how does one calculate damage average to include misses?
Expected (=average) damage is linear: E(damage) = E(damage on hit) * P(hit) + E(damage on miss) * P(miss)
You can include other categories like crits and such in a similar manner.
@kviiri gotcha. Well, I'll leave the math(s) to somebody else. That is NOT my baileywick.
@NautArch Usually if you are just doing 0 damage on a miss that is simplified to mean just the average damage you deal multiplied by the odds of hitting.
@Sdjz In terms of usefulness, I'd rather just know how much I damage I can expect on average when I hit. But it's not my question :D
@NautArch Also by linearity of expectation, it's the sum of each die's average plus any constant damage you get on top
18:22
@kviiri unless you are rocking chaos bolt which rerolls on specific discrete outcomes on multiple dice
GcL
GcL
We should have a room similar in function to Not-A-Bar but for calculations about these things. Maybe Not-An-Abacus
3
@GcL Probably.

@Xirema Excellent!
@NautArch All you have to do is cast "Banish" and Xirema will end up there.
@goodguy5 As long as he doesn't drag me along :P
@KorvinStarmast that's about how most Humble Bundles are
19:19
thanks for the reminder, though, just got it myself :)
can we get some more close votes over here:
https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/151372/how-does-the-weapon-attack-as-a-bonus-action-mentioned-in-war-magic-work
edition "uncertainty"
Even though, it's clearly 5e.
GcL
GcL
Does war caster and bonus action exist in any other edition?
errr... war magic
I just found a roll20 game I might apply for that has "Characters will roll 5d6d2 until they get an 18 in their stats". What do you all think the best class would be to have such ridiculously high stats?
GcL
GcL
@DavidCoffron They roll 5d6 twice?
@goodguy5 What's the uncertainty, then? If someone says "5e" do we disregard it on the grounds that they might have meant "4e" and hit the wrong key?
19:33
@DavidCoffron Bard?
Definitely something MAD.
Paladin/Bard/Monk/Barbarian
@MarkWells he doesn't actually say "5e"
but all the terminology is 5e
GcL
GcL
@MarkWells Obviously nobody really means 4e /S
But yeah, is it obviously 5e and not 4e or pathfinder such that the tag could be confidently applied?
@GcL Our policy, I believe, is never to confidently apply. OP must apply.
Does anyone utilize Downtime at their tables?
GcL
GcL
@NautArch So any non-system tag can be applied?
@NautArch I do. Pretty extensively.
I'm not even sure that we're allowed to apply the if they say "That 5th dragon game"
19:37
@GcL 5d6k3 or 5d6 drop 2. I use it a lot for one-shots.
GcL
GcL
@goodguy5 Seems reasonable if the rule of thumb is not never apply game system tags unless you're the OP.
One of the characters in the campaign I'm DMing decided to just eat garbage behind the tavern while the party talked to the barkeeper.
I feel like my D&D career has officially peaked.
@Xirema Please tell me this is a Guardians of the Galaxy campaign
@MarkWells Nope. 5e LMoP campaign.
@MarkWells Guardians of the Garbage Can
19:39
The character in question is a Tortle, I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse.
was a lot of the garbage lettuce?
My next guess was "Druid in raccoon form", I guess I'm 0 for 2
@Xirema We have an INT 3 half-orc who has a tendency to just put gruel in a bag and to eat.
FOught some orcs and in their stronghold there was a pot of human stew. He took some.
I've decided that the mechanical consequence is that they have a disease (which they're unaware of) that lasts 24 hours, and every time they make a d20 roll, I roll a secret 1d6; odds get added to the roll, evens get subtracted.
It's just a little garbage, bro
19:42
@goodguy5 STRAWBERRIES
@G.Moylan I had a little turtle for a while and she LOVED strawberries
@G.Moylan My girlfriend binged a YouTube channel last night who feeds turtles human food like hotdogs and pineapple and they love it
GcL
GcL
@Xirema What narrative devices are you using to clue in the player that the character is not quite right? Is it like food poisoning?
(@me implying that pineapple is human food, it's a fruit :facepalm:)
@G.Moylan turtles do, indeed, love "stawbees", as my wife often exclaims when she feeds strawberries to the work turtle, Trevor.
@DavidCoffron (it's also a natural pesticide, so I hear)
GcL
GcL
19:44
@DavidCoffron Did it come from a can? I'd call it human food if it was pineapple from a can.
GcL
GcL
@goodguy5 There's an employed turtle named Trevor? Please tell me he works the help desk.
@GcL He's the .... "mascot"? for the horticulture department.
I think they jokingly refer to him as "assistant manager of horticulture"
GcL
GcL
Well... that makes a lot more sense. I was just picturing a turtle with a little headset slowly reaching for the "answer" button on a phone.
@GcL There haven't been that many rolls yet, but one such example I called out is an attack roll that should have failed, but the invisible roll was a 3, and I reported that "for some reason, even though you feel like you should have missed, you hit them instead" after they made a ranged attack.
Also, they passed a stealth check despite rolling a 10 (the invisible roll was a 5).
GcL
GcL
19:50
Wonder how long it takes until they catch on.
It'll probably happen in tonight's session, there's going to be quite a few more rolls. Most of the last session was RPing in Phandalin.
@DavidCoffron The nice thing about going Monk or Barb will be your unarmored AC with those 18s.
@GcL This is basically correct, but it is important to also remember that there is nothing inherently magical about system tags. You can add a tag if OP indicates what game they are playing in the body and/or comments for example. The key thing is not to focus on the tags themselves, but that OP must specify somehow.
GcL
GcL
20:06
But who is going to paint it?!?!
@G.Moylan noice!
@GcL I know, right?
@DavidCoffron Wait how does the xdN notation nest? Does 5d6d2 mean (5d6)d2 or 5d(6d2)?
@Someone_Evil I think it's supposed to be 5d6 drop 2 or 5d6k3. I do something similar for most one-shots I run since it skews the average high
20:39
@Someone_Evil Yeah d2 here means drop the 2 lowest (and k3 typically means choose 3 highest)
Although I am now curious what 5d(6d2) looks like: here it is
20:58
@DavidCoffron I think thats just calculating (5*6)d2
unless the math works out almost exactly the same because of the high number
no that doesnt make sense...
it flips a coin 6 times and multiples that result by 5
it doesnt though, because in that case all results would be multiples of 5
5x(6x1) = 30 for the lower bound and 5x(6x2) = 60 for the upper bound
i think its doing 30d2
Correction: rolls a d2, not flip a coin
wait...
21:06
@SirCinnamon Either we found a bug, or those distributions are identical
@Someone_Evil they can't be, though. Because we're trying to roll 5d(random) essentially
@G.Moylan 5d{6,7,8,9,10,11,12} is essentially what should be happening
but I wouldn't expect that to plot the same as 30d2
@G.Moylan No, you wouldn't have a uniform distribution of what kind of dice is rolled
@G.Moylan No. 6d2 yields this
I used {} like a List object in programming, it didn't occur to me that it would mean something different mathematically
@G.Moylan oh... in anydice it is a string that is rolled
21:11
@G.Moylan It means something to AnyDice; a dice with those faces
ah gotcha
@G.Moylan but yeah, it should be a 1.56% chance of a 5d6/12; a 9.38% chance of a 5d7/11; a 23.44% chance of a 5d8/10; a 31.25% chance of a 5d9
does it apply to turtles too?
@V2Blast until they bite you, then it is "insanity of action"
@DavidCoffron which still wouldn't distribute like 30d2, though, I wouldn't think
21:14
@G.Moylan No, i don't think it would, which means the function isn't doing what I wanted it to
@Someone_Evil I dont know if it's necessarily a bug, or just that anydice doesnt support nested rolling
@SirCinnamon which would make sense because graphing that would be wild. You'd essentially get several distributions, one for each possible type of die, which could theoretically be unbounded, so I wouldn't think they'd code that into their software
seems exploitable
Yeah definitely
That is the mean of 5d(6d2) if nested works, so clearly that doesn't work in AnyDice (at least not the way I did it)
Ahh... it's intentional: check the documentation: arbitrary dice
21:22
> output 2d(2d2) named "4d2"
5d6 drop 2 is what I think 5d6d2 means. (right?)
@KorvinStarmast Yep
@KorvinStarmast that's what I meant by it, yes
ok so it will do what we're after but we have to forcefeed it actual values. That makes sense because otherwise you'd have the potential for an unbounded situation like I described
Roll20 uses the same syntax. XdYdZ (or XdYdlZ) rolls X number of Y-sided dice and drops the lowest Z number of results, XdYkZ (or XdYkhZ) rolls the same dice but keeps the highest Z number of results

Morning
So I just smashed my phone with my forehead
@Ben and broke it?
@SirCinnamon Yeah... I avoid going there most of the time cause I'm always behind on stuff :P

No, just the cover. I have one of those "shatterproof" sticky covers that prevents the screen from getting damaged.
Which is also useful because it didn't slice up my forehead.
I literally had a boss baby power nap
Except on my phone

@SirCinnamon Yeah. I had to avoid Sf&f for anything to do with GoT and Endgame as well. Made it difficult
