@NautArch I'm talking just about this feature only. I thin it was an oversight on wording and they just forgot to include it. Is there even anything else that only recharges on a short rest?
> Again... ground refers broadly to any solid continuous, contiguous surface on the planet. Terrain refers broadly to any solid continuous, contiguous surface that the characters or monsters move on (emphasis not mine).
?
Hmm...
One could argue that a plate in free-fall doesn't quite count as "on the planet".
I dunno, I would consider the ground on a floating island "ground". Like if I were in the astral plane, with it's subjective gravity and thingamajigs, there is "ground" there too. Maybe kilometres wide...
Tags are for allowing a community of interest to follow relevant questions. What community of interest exists around bonus actions, but not 5e as a whole?
Tags are not for labeling keywords or for search, the regular search works for that already.
@goodguy5 An argument could be made that it would be logical that someone would be an expert in how the shaman class works, but expecting someone to specialize in the detailed minutiae of bonus actions is... odd.
The plot is very boring (yet very relatable) and the "death metal" music is very tame. It's a single track played over and over, maybe with some simple words thrown in. Never seemed too creative. Also I watched in Spanish so maybe the lyrics didn't translate well?
Namely: The NEET who suddenly finds himself in a fantasy world does not immediately learn magic or whatever and become the strongest hero; rather his skills are pathetic and he is defeated by everybody
The way he wins is not by abusing "mechanics" or getting swole or whatever, but by organizing people who are better than him to go accomplish the things, which is a really good moral: social skills are stronk
Sadly it does still have a lot of the cringey anime tropes but overall I'd say 7/10
@SPavel It's hard to judge based on the first episode. A lot of isekai stories have a strong opening, but then they just don't... go anywhere with the plot.
Keep the tag: we've got browsers, too.
Users don't only come here when they've a specific question, but also to browse around in a repository of high-quality analysis and advice. While searching for "TPK" will likely get you a good sampling, utilizing a TPK tag would provide users another avenue...
@MikeQ Re:Zero? It's funny in the way that action anime tend to be funny, in that the main character occasionally has physical comedy inflicted upon him
Before I start: I thought about the matter when reading this answer to the How is the community doing? [2018] post, which claims a larger percentage of negative reactions towards homebrew questions compared to other questions, and also urges more open-mindedness towards homebrew questions. The la...
@NautArch Actually I did a search. There are no abilities that recharge only on a short rest (that don't already recharge on a long rest for other reasons) besides the boons.
At least not that I could find.
I believe that also coverers items as well actually.
@Gryphon Earth and Fire look fine (fire compares to Tiefling, Earth compares to Genasi). Giving flight speed with no limitation is risky. Aakokra for example need to be wearing light or no armor to even have flight (and don't get hover). And aakokra don't get anything else. Water has too many spells/pseudospells at lvl 1 but if you spread them out to lvl 3 and lvl 5, it would work better (like the Drow Magic for example)
So I should tune down the Air flying and delay some of the spells for Water. I'm not going to edit the question, but I'll look at my copy of them and see where I can change things a little.
@HellSaint There have been more than a few situations where someone tries to circumvent site rules (such as topicality or "no lists") by using Community Wiki under the justification of "well, I'm not getting rep for this so it's fine".
I always thought the Prime Material Plane was basically like our universe, with stars and galaxies (plus magic & fantasy races of course). So Krynn, Oerth, Toril, etc. were planets in separate star systems. Is the geocentric setting from Spelljammer, with the crystal spheres & phlogiston, now canon?
@FutureHistorian There is a Game of Thrones system. Obviously it is focused in GoT setting and characters, but you could adapt the political and combat system, at least.
One thing is: I remember some game developers in my city creating an RPG system exactly like what you are asking - it was an RPG focused in the Cold War. It's not complete yet (even if it was, it's in Portuguese :P), but it might indicate that there is not a system like that yet (or they would be losing time haha)
@Yuuki Understood. I wonder if there's a way to throw out Spelljammer, which I never did like, but still have interplanetary/interstellar travel between worlds. I guess PCs can always use the Ethereal Plane (or am I thinking of the Astral Plane?) as a fantasy version of hyperspace that lets characters travel vast distances across the universe.
Here is the thing. I meant more military focus, with a few scenes dealing with some geopolitics during our timeline's Cuban Missile Crisis prior to the PoD.
@FutureHistorian what do you mean by that? Are they active fighting participants (soldiers?) or are they the generals directing global/regional conflict?
I think you're going to have to pick though because a ground-level view and a bird's-eye view are really hard to gel.
Trying to fit both perspectives for players in one group is going to be rough.
You could maybe run two groups, one of which deals with higher-level decisions, but you might run into interpersonal problems when one group might feel slighted by the decisions of their commanders but they have real people to pin to the nebulous "top brass".
@Rubiksmoose OP asked for "By permanent, I mean a spell that doesn't end on its own, having a duration of "until dispelled", or not specifying when the spell ends." that seems pretty clear.
I'm fairly certain this is a legit question. NOt a good question, but a legit one.
@NautArch I know. They only specified after I asked.
Are you looking for spells that maintain their "duration"? Example: Nystal's Magic Aura can become "Until Dispelled" which is the same as "Permanent" as both can be dispelled... durations of instantaneous are different in that they cannot be dispelled as their magic is done in creation of something. So are you asking for spells with infinite duration, or are you asking for spells that create things of lasting substance like Awaken or Wall of Stone? Because the two are slightly different. — Slagmoth10 mins ago
That is the confusion I am referring to.
Though, I think actually that going by OP's definition may clear that up as long as they know that they are getting both categories of things in the answer.
@Rubiksmoose I think you've got it there. THey are clear in what they're asking for (spells that don't end on their own and last until dispelled or longer)
@NautArch I would argue not actually. Instantaneous means the spell is over. It has a defined duration which means that, according to OP's definition, it is not permanent. For the same reason that a crater created by fireball is not a reason to consider it permanent.
The premise behind Twilight 2013 is interesting, but I wonder if the reason the game didn't fly is because a lot of players want zombies, space aliens, or mutants in their post-apocalyptic RPG settings.
One of the eeriest things about playing post-apocalyptic RPGs that take place in the near-future: PCs can visit their home towns - maybe even what's left of their home, including possessions that haven't been looted.
Player to GM: "In real life I have $1,000 in cash and a handgun in a safe buried under my basement. Is it still there in our game?"
GM to players: "Ok, you guys are getting hungry, where are you going to find food?" Player to GM as he stows cooler filled soda, twinkies and chips under floorboards. "Don't worry, it's taken care of . . "
@RobertF I think I played twilight about 30 years ago (is that right?!). Not sure if it was that or some other post-WW2 escape from europe RPG that I've not been able to verify.
While a question that's on hold or closed is indicated in brackets in the general list of questions, a question that's locked isn't. (For example, at the time of this writing, this question.)
Is there a reason not to display a bracketed locked after a locked question in the general list of quest...
This is my first time homebrewing a race, and I'd like some feedback on balance. The question here is whether this race is overpowered, underpowered, or roughly balanced when compared the playable races in the PHB.
Race: Powertouched
[Fluff about elemental powers here. Blah Blah Blah...
I have a strange feeling about this question. Each subrace is so different from each other that it might be a different question for each one. – Replicating my comment
The issue isn't melee fighters flying over walls and attacking rangers. The issue is spellcasters and ranged combatants flying up and out of range of melee enemies.
@Gryphon Btw, on the Fire subrace you made, the Fire bolt mentions "on a hit" - but you don't specify what roll it is. (i.e., is it a spell ranged attack, just like the cantrip, or is it just a ranged attack?)
Firebolt is already a name of a cantrip, so it might be confuse.
@HellSaint Yeah, its meant to be the exact same as the cantrip. On second thought, I don't know why I didn't just say "you have the ability to cast the 'fire bolt' cantrip". I'll edit to change that now.
I'd consider limiting the flight in some way so you can still have "cool, flight" while avoiding some possible pitfalls that come with allowing completely free flight.
