@DavidCoffron if a doppelgreener ever appears covered in red, please call and ambulance and/or police (depending on the origin of the red) and leave debating how they should be named until emergency respondents are on their way.
@goodguy5 I get that - its a pain to be stealthy and worry about being caught and having to explain yourself - i would rather just pay for the convenience
@SimonH. The worst I've seen is when buying an e-book. The website will advertise it, give the price, but for some reason not have a "add to cart" or "buy" button.
And you do that by kidnapping one the WoTC designers and sealing them in a protective room in your basement, and then pay them in bread and water until they write out a copy of the rules, by hand
Separating it into multiple new questions would likely generate some interesting answers so I'm for closing it as long as me re-asking a more focused versions of the question isnt going to get duplicate linked.
@Rubiksmoose do you know what the general policy for asking the same-ish question better for old questions that get closed?
@DavidCoffron I think in a case like this it would actually probably be beneficial to just close it and then ask the questions ourselves. I think this is something that does get done on occasion. I was planning on asking about it on meta maybe and then asking a new question if appropriate.
@DavidCoffron Yeah I mean there are definitely some questions in there that I am not really interested in. So if this occurs I wouldn't want to just separate each and every thing into its own.
Here Crawford rules on Find Greater Steed. Seems a lot of the other mechanics would be similar (if not for the Ranger' s Companion, at least for Find Familiar)
@DavidCoffron yup! I found the same thing. I was actually working on an answer to the question when I came to the conclusion that it was prett unworkable.
So the question is: How does true polymorph interact with class feature companions?
1. Should we close it?
In my opinion, it has way too many major questions and sub-questions in it to be a good question and should probably be closed for that reason. But it is very old and both the asker and th...

Biggest pitfall imo is to get too bogged down in your own character rather than the story as a whole. It can ruin the fun for others and I think for yourself as well
Emphasize that they shouldn't really got overwhelmed by the mechanics. They just need to tell you what they want to do and you'll make it work and probably explain how you did it (if appropriate).
There's a show called Harmonquest that is very entertaining, and is also a great example of how to run a coherent tabletop RPG without giving the mechanics too much attention
@goodguy5 Abilities and what they mean generally. The concept of the d20 and how it is used it most of the interactions. Maybe a couple big mechanical things from classes.
Do make sure that if you are introducing the rules slowly that you don't get into a situation where a rule they did not know about is going to kill them for example lol
@NautArch Gnomes are annoying to adjudicate because of Minor Illusion. I'll deal with it but it's frustrating. Same problem I have with School of Illusion wizards or Illusion spells in general
@GreySage Agreed. Enchantment is the one that I struggle with most. I can never seem to use Suggestion properly, and Confusion and Dominate cause too much frustration when used against PCs.
@MikeQ i personally dont mind when my chadacter gets dominated. But I'm the kind who wouldn't mind just sitting on the side making jokes, while most people want to actually play the whole time
(Don't get me wrong though. I make a mean party member in combat. I know my way around a tactical plan)
