Which is, I guess, good news for my ultimate goal of hacking the horror out of Cthulhu Confidential.
But still disappointing from a formal perspective.
It's sort of a reverse Kiss Me Deadly.
...On the bright side, it's a good cautionary tale for my future attempts at genre mashups.

01:15
@BESW so what happened?

1 hour later…
02:17
@BESW I found it really interesting in that regard. I think it works better as a horror game that way, precisely because the standard horror elements are so rare in it.
@nitsua60 I was surprised to find 'the gym' on my list.
It's just... variously bad and unpleasant people scheming against one another, with the lovecraftian horror as an almost random thing that has nothing to do with the plot, other than being it's catalyst.
So when the tried and true lovecraftain elements do crop up, they have an impact. They are, somehow, unexpected. At least that's what we found in our playthrough.
@trogdor Hm?
does whatever one-2-one plan you have need to be re worked or something?
or was there just a tool that you couldn't easily use?
@trogdor It might. Still wrapping my brain around it.
02:26
ah ok
that is all I was asking
@Magician I can see that. And "rare" and "unexpected" are qualities I value in a Mythos story. It's just that they also seem "unnecessary."
03:01
@Magician Have you tried any of the other scenarios?
Not yet. Brian's been busy.
I think the book holds up the first one as a platonic ideal of the game structure, not necessarily of a lovecraftian gumshoe mystery
Fair enough.

For tonight's dinner I diced tempeh and fried it in olive oil and soy sauce, then added garlic and onion on low heat until the onion started turning translucent. Added a can of black beans and cooked on medium heat until I was happy with how it looked. Served on corn tortillas with cheddar cheese and salsa.
10:17
fine, do that when I am not around :P
10:51
I didn't think you'd like tempeh.

Monday Monsters: Fire Giants & Hellhounds. #FAE #Fate #RPG #DnD #Pathfinder https://hyvemynd.wordpress.com/2017/10/03/monday-monsters-fire-giants-hellhounds/
12:43
@BESW what is it exactly?
some kind of tofu?
Kinda. They're both fermented soybean, but tempeh is less processed.
So it's kinda knobbly and less wet, because the beans didn't get mashed up.
ah
could be that I would not like it yeah
Tofu is curdled soy milk, tempeh is fermented cooked soybeans.
It's chewier and firmer and slightly varied in texture, and has a bit of the soybean taste left where tofu is practically tasteless.
12:48
honestly, half of that sounds maybe good, half of it sounds bad
so it might not be my favorite there
It's often sold with artificial flavoring, like bacon.
that sounds kinda hit or miss
Yeah... bacon flavor is actually pretty hard to mess up unless you overdo it, but others... yeah.
Generally bacon flavors are just liquid smoke.
13:17
mornin
13:28
good morning
14:01
howdy howdy
how's everyone?
not bad. getting ready to leave for 10 days of work travel.
@NautArch fun, mind if I ask where you're heading off to?
memphis, new orleans, then anaheim
good eats coming my way :)
nice!
14:14
and the new orleans bit is a conference i get to attend instead of work at. SO that's a nice change.
@NautArch cool! what kind of conference?
graphic imaging (SGIA) is the one I get to attend.
neat
yeah, never been to it before. We're looking at buying new equipment, so it's a shopping trip.
@NautArch very cool
I'd love to go to a developer conference
sql pass would be amazing
14:36
i think the last conference i've gone to that I wasn't working at a booth was about 8 years ago for CES.
@NautArch I've never been to a tech conference
has anyone here made dungeon tiles?
dungeon tiles?
@NautArch there are many forms, but one example: dwarvenforge.com
@DForck42 I've wanted to for a while now, but haven't made it a priority
@Adam ok
I was initially looking at making some out of foamcore, but I discovered making them out of foamboard (insulation) allows you to make them look better
14:47
dang, that's pretty cool
Hirst Arts has molds you can use to make them out of plaster. I was thinking about using that
@Adam one of th ebig issues is that casting is expensive
with $15 worth of foam board you can make a TON of dungeon tiles
The molds aren't all that expensive and dental plaster is cheap in bulk.
that's part of why I'm going to make them that way
@Adam that's really cool

3 hours later…
17:37
I feel like the chat is very slow lately
Like, for the past week or more
@GreySage Try casting haste to counteract the slow
@MikeQ But since I'm playing 5e I have to maintain concentration for that, and I have work to do :(
17:52
@GreySage probably a little
the movies room is super active today
It comes in waves. One day passes and the chat is scrolling by. Then it's a mime convention for a few days
@DForck42 Maybe because Blade Runner 2049 is coming out this weekend?
@Yuuki we're mostly talking about food, lol
Oh, in that case, it might be because Binging with Babish (that guy who makes food from movies and TV shows) has his first cookbook out today.
I just found that channel a few weeks ago. It's pretty entertaining
18:03
I like it and I'm considering going to the bookstore to pick up the book.

5 hours later…
23:05
hey there @MikeQ
23:57
@Shalvenay What is thy bidding, my master?
