@nitsua60 I'd stick with a different form and go with "for us" or "on our behalf".
Or chocolates could work. Just stuff them through the tubes.
Yeah, right on the front of your computer. It'll be fine.
4
Q: If you are talking "on behalf of" you and someone else, what is the correct usage?

Matthew SteeplesIf you are talking on behalf of you and someone else what is the correct usage? On behalf of my wife and me On behalf of my wife and I On behalf of me and my wife On behalf of myself and my wife On behalf of my wife and myself ... My understanding is that after that...

Well done, Google, for delivering results for "on and my behalf".
Ben

@JoelHarmon "groan" button next to "star" button.
Ben
Ben
@Miniman That guide is impressive you're welcome
@Ben It's my eternal shame that I've beaten all 3 Dark Souls games without ever learning to parry
I'd go with "on behalf of Joel and myself."
Ben
Ben
04:13
@Miniman If it makes you feel better, I've played the entire series, and got progressively worse at parrying
@BESW yeah, rectifying the syntax makes it flow much better.
That's my usual go-to; when in doubt, re-phrase it to something with less doubt.
(It often means I've got some other weird thing that went unnoticed, and re-phrasing will help expose or remove that too.)
@Miniman I knew someone who completed Shadow of the Colossus without ever figuring out you can eat fruit and lizards to gain stamina and health.
@BESW The difference is, that's an amazing feat of skill and endurance combined with a colossal (pun intended) oversight. Not learning to parry is just me being lazy and not bothering to learn a skill cos it's too hard.
Heh. Yeah, she did something by accident that many people would consider a kind of ultimate challenge to prove their mastery.
Ben
Ben
@BESW "Oh, wait, that's a thing? Cool."
04:22
@Ben Several of us were talking about the game and it sounded like she'd struggled a lot more than we had. Somebody got condescending to her, we asked questions, and then everybody had to shut up and give her props.
(And she was a little miffed that she'd spent so much more time on the game than she'd needed to.)
Ben
Ben
So @Miniman (and anyone else that likes building boss fights) the situation is this: She's alone, and has been given a rather ominous clue: A location, written in blood. All her teammates have vanished (apparently kidnapped).
@Ben Well, if it's a mind control-focused warlock, having her fight a teammate is a great trope.
Plus some of the links on that page.
Ben
Ben
It's about a day's travel from where she is, to this location - which is a town.
@Miniman ooooooooh yas
That's perfect
Except for one problem. The only "teammate" she has, she'd rather give up, than fight.
So maybe I'll have to trap them in
@Ben That just proves how evil the BBEG is, right?
Ben
Ben
04:38
@Miniman Maybe if the fight goes south (like, she refuses to fight and it all goes nowhere), I'll have the BBEG "kill" him (the brainwashed PC).
Then she'll have no resolve, and just give up
@Ben Definitely make sure she knows about non-lethal KOs in advance.
Ben
Ben
@Miniman She has played before, and she does know that this story is a prequel, so she knows he comes back.
But I really think that will be somewhat traumatic...
In a good way... if that's a thing.
Like... memorable
@Ben Yep, that's why it's such a common trope :)
Ben
Ben
@Miniman Also, she has exhibited that she often uses drones/thralls to do her dirty work
Hmm. Idea.
Ben
Ben
04:45
Goblins in one encounter, and an Orc/Troll in another (I forget what they're called)
@Ben Ogre?
Orog?
How about this? The BBEG doesn't mind control the friend. Instead, the BBEG tells the PC that she has to fight the friend and make him think she's turned against him, or the BBEG will brainwash the friend to [forget all about her]/[become his lackey]/[do something he'd never want to do].
Ben
Ben
@Miniman Orog. That's tyh one
@BESW Oooh, nice reversal.
"Betray your friend to save him!"
It's a nasty old forced trope, but can be fun if you buy into it.
Ben
Ben
04:48
@BESW I like it, but I'm not sure how it would work... He's been kidnapped, and he knows that she's the target (in a previous encounter he was meant to have been "dealt with" while she was taken hostage, which went south and they both escaped).
Oh, I forgot... there is another NPC, that likes to appear to her at odd times and "help".
He's some kind of extra-dimensional being
And one other thing, They both have a stone that seems to be linked to each character which I was going to use for the "brain-wipe" event. . Was thinking that they get destroyed somehow, then a bright flash, and they wake up, far away, with no memory of what happened between now and then
But that was just a preliminary thought. Maybe she can use it to try and "re-program" him from being brainwashed.
@BESW Although, actually... they're not exactly sure why this BBEG is after her...
So it could work actually
So... Fighter vs Ranger
Which is who?
Ben
Ben
She's the Ranger
I'm the Fighter
How did she build it? Also, how did you build your Fighter? (Archer vs Greatsword is potentially a lot more important than Fighter vs Ranger, if you see what I mean.)
Ben
Ben
Yes, ahah
If I remember correctly, she is Range-based, but she does have some daggers for close combat. She's a Giant Hunter (Hunter Archetype)
Moon Elf
05:04
Any spells she uses a lot?
Ben
Ben
Cure Wounds
Actually... I think she has ensnaring strike
Interesting...how about your Fighter?
Ben
Ben
He's a human. Huge - 6'4". Greatsword, Battlemaster, also Tavern Brawler
Disarming Strike, Trip Attack, and Sweeping attacl
So she definitely has the advantage if she can keep her distance, and she probably can keep her distance.
Ben
Ben
I feel like I also want to throw a few thralls at her beforehand. Soften her up a bit

05:26
Actually, what do you think of this - the BBEG doesn't actually fight. Their power comes from controlling others.
So once the fight vs friend is over, the BBEG does like a "mind-wipe-flash" thing to escape
@BESW Wow, one question got four of our extra-special spam answers. Hmmm...keywords...perfect spam magnet question...
"Witch doctors aren't great at spelling. Is there a wizard spell that a wizard could use to spell wizard for a witch doctor? If not, is there a witch doctor spell that a wizard could get a witch doctor to cast that would teach the witch doctor how to spell wizard?"
Unless variety is more important than volume.
Ben
Ben
@Miniman I think variety. Usually programmed searches have a list of hits, the more hits, the more viable. I.e., yes that question has 3 words in it. But another question that involves Dragons and Dungeons is more viable.
But then again, this is spam.
@Ben THIS...IS...SPAM!!!

@BESW Now I want Bacon and Eggs
@Ben I've been trying to come up with a good vegetarian version of spam musubi.

Ben
@BESW Something tells me that tofu isn't as exciting
Actually, isn't there a vegetarian ham?
Generally speaking, vegetarian things that try to mimic meat... are a bad idea.
yeah that seems to be the case
05:46
@Ben These days there are vegan substitutes for most forms of meat. @BESW said the next thing I was going to mention.
(If you DO want a vegan meat substitute, Tofurkey brand is usually the best bet.)
Ben
Ben
Can't really comment on the topic. I mean, I live with a vegan, and I still know next to nothing about the whole thing
Like, if you want the texture of meat, mushrooms are usually a good choice. Lentils are often good for ground beef style bulk.

05:55
It's ok, was rhetorical haha
Oh, separate note (going back to my campaign): I had a very good improv moment.
I added a "darkness spell" room. The elf decided she was going to pray to Selune for guidance to get across, and just walked in. I though "good rp", so I let it slide. Was then thinking on her way back, once she stole the artefact, the darkness would dissipate (cos of the magic from the artefact) and the path was going to be all sorts of crazy, to stop her from leaving
Turns out, she decided not to take the artefact.
Well there goes that idea.
The whole reason for this was so that she could get information on where the BBEG was, and they weren't leaving without the artefact.
So instead, I decided to make sure that no one followed her through the darkness, and when she re-emerged on the other side, they were all kidnapped
Oooh, nasty.
Ben
Ben
I was a little bummed that my darkness room was bypassed, but I think I handled the situation well. I wasn't going to force her to "go back and get it again", especially since the whole "moon/mirror/time limit" thing I had going would have been ruined.

Sometimes I wish I were cattier, because then I'd have more opportunities to use stuff like this:
08:47
This Kickstarter offers an aluminium d20 that's almost 5 inches tall and weighs nearly 5 pounds, for the low low price of $100 plus shipping.
Wait, no, $99 is for the Mini, only 3'' tall and 1.4 lbs.
The 4.6'', 4.8 lb one is $249.
09:22
lol
a big D20 would be nice, but not for that price
it's just a novelty item after all
door stop
I can't believe they have just under 9000$ on it already
it's ridiculous
I guess it could be a good deterrent at tables that like to throw dice at eachother.
10:01
Almost $9k from only 60 backers.
well at $100-250 an item pretty easy to get that high with so few
It's that old adage about selling something cheap that everyone wants, or convincing a few people they want something expensive.
yup
@BESW You're not really into Pathfinder right?
Not really, no. I played 3.5 for a long time, but swore off d20 System games several years ago.
Hi hi.
10:07
Ello
Yopp!
I'm not really here right now, I'm cooking dinner.
James Sutter is the guest of honor at our major gaming convention this weekend, going to be doing a bunch of stuff on Starfinder.
But some time, @JuneShores, I'd like to regale you with the concept behind one of my earliest attempts at designing an RPG.
I think it's pastoral fantasy and also awesome.
Ooh, neat.
I'd like to hear about that. My earliest attempts were trying to do My Little Pony in Fate -- the first Dresden Files version. It was awwwwkward.
oh boy
That reminds me, isn't Dresden Files FAE out or due out soon
10:12
Yup, it's available for pre-order from non-Kickstarterers.
@JuneShores I think I got hooked up on doing something cute with FAE mechanics.
(I have to walk away from the food to keep from poking it too much.)
what's cooking?
Hrmm now does that $34.99 include shipping or not
@BESW which one is this?
@trogdor Hounds of God.
ah nup, guess just the PDF will have to do
10:19
@BESW the werewolf one with farming and stuff?
@Tashio Carrots, green beans, and mushrooms, sautéed in olive oil with pepper, garlic salt, and ginger salabat powder, served with toasted sunflower seeds on whole wheat spaghetti.
@trogdor Aye.
mmm ginger
best ingredient
ginger salabat powder?
it's a thing
Jun 1 at 10:13, by BESW
Ginger salabat is a filipino drink. It varies by family and region but basically it's strong ginger tea with sugar or honey and cayenne pepper.
[returns with dinner]
10:33
Welcome back.
ah cool
So, June: In the late 17th century a man claimed that a few times a year the Devil would send witches to steal his village's crops, whereupon God would turn the young men of his village (including himself when he was young) into werewolves to pursue the witches into Hell and take back the crops.
It seems to me like this is an absolutely awesome formula for a one-shot RPG.
I called it "Hounds of God," and it was based on Fate Accelerated. The gimmick was you'd spend the first part of the game as Livonian peasants overcoming simple peasanty obstacles. During that time your roleplay would define your character traits (aspects and approaches).
Oooh, I like that a lot.
Then the witches would steal your crops, and you'd pursue them, with God granting you stunts along the way until you reach Hell--at which point you turn into werewolves.
You retain your aspects and approaches, but being werewolves changes the context of what your aspects and approaches mean you can do.
And that's pretty much the gist of it. You fight demons and witches in Hell, hopefully recover the crops, and the session's done.
But whenever I tried to write it, it'd turn into a lot of micromanaging and bloat.
Ah, yeah. That's a design phase that you have to work past. The bloat in Crying Cartoon friends has been enormous at times.
10:53
I've been banging my head on this one for about four years.
@BESW it's too bad, because it has always sounded like a nice idea
Maybe we should just try it some time and see what happens, working from my ideas without a particular document.
hmm
that could help in identifying the actual parts that could be trimmed
nwp
nwp
11:40
Would you consider the 9 dolphins picture (somewhat NSFW) inappropriate for the site or would a comment containing a link to it be acceptable?
It seems unnecessary; what point is being made with it that couldn't be made with a less risque example of reversible images or multistable perception?
nwp
nwp
that is a good point, I'll use one of those instead
(I think that image would be okay to link with a NSFW label if it's crucial to the point being made. But it rarely is, so why add the extra layer of hassle?)
12:04
howdy howdy
12:23
Good afternoon from Londontonsville!
@JuneShores I think at the moment one area to look at is the parts of chargen that get regularly referenced in the game and those that do not, so that the parts that don't get referenced can get removed or made relevant enough to get referenced.
e.g. we've found during atomic robo that interpersonal relationships don't really get referenced until the mechanics make them important.
(we played a squad who had a boss who never came up mid-game, until we switched out some character aspects to explicitly reference her)
12:53
@doppelgreener I've learned a lot from how recent Worlds of Adventure are applying very specific concepts to aspect slots.
@BESW Me too!
There was a time when having everyone on the team take an aspect about their relationship with the boss would've seemed controlling and harsh to me.
it does seem like there needs to be a little bit of structure as to what aspects happen to be about
@trogdor that particular thing, compared to the structure provided by fate worlds, has really driven home for me that fate core really is just a working baseline, and masterful customisation to the basic workings brings out its greatest strengths.
which, in turn, drives home for me that fate is an easy game to pick up, and involves a long journey full of learning before it's mastered and really understood.
13:12
@Hmm Hi! You'll need 20+ rep to type in chat, but you're welcome to hang out until then.
@BESW @Hmm I was just looking at your question.
(Sorry, @BESW--don't know why I "reply"ed that one....)
@Hmm have an upvote so you can chat here :)
It often takes a little while for chat to notice the rep update.
<still handing out my Bardic Inspiration from last night>
@Hmm and I was considering making a new chat room to which you'd have write-access, because it seems like maybe @KorvinStarmast has some suggestions? (But now I see you've got the requisite rep, so I'll just hang on until you can say 'hi.'
13:15
Today I learned you can be suspended from chat because of something on another stack website
@AnneAunyme True. How'd you learn it?
I was suspended on French Language, I think I won't come back there
did you hear yesterday's story?
@AnneAunyme Whoa... you were suspended?
By a mod, or just "kicked" by a room owner?
13:17
actually the suspension was because of the chat
one user posted there some kind of passive-agressive hostile message barely hidden in formulations
@AnneAunyme this chat? or did things regress further?
I told her that I noticed her game and reminded her firmly about the policies

Do you use tabs or spaces for code indentation?

This is a bit of a “holy war” among software developers; one that’s been the subject of many debates and in-jokes. I use spaces, but I never thought it was particularly important. But today we’re releasing the raw data behind the Stack Overflow 2017 Developer Survey, and some analysis suggests this choice matters more than I expected.

There were 28,657 survey respondents who provided an answer to tabs versus spaces and who considered themselves a professional developer (as opposed to a student or former programmer). Within t …

apparently it was enough for me to get suspended, but her message is still there on the chat
@NautArch French Language's chat, but it makes you suspended on every chat
@AnneAunyme Ah. I'm sorry about that situation. That's awful.
@nitsua60 Whaaat.
As a text layout professional with no coding proficiencies whatsoever I find the use of spaces to indent lines distressing.
@nitsua60 can be explained as spaces are easier to use old old devices
and you get lots of old devices in banks, where you get paid the most
@AnneAunyme are you saying that experience/tenure could be a lurking variable, hidden behind "works with older systems"?
not at all
@nitsua60 the variable is clearly the Illuminati
13:23
just that some kind of companies don't have a priority of getting modern computers
but of getting money
@AnneAunyme so "industry" would be the lurking variable?
maybe, if you put banks in the same category
darn, we lost hmm
i lost the game too, hmm...
Funnily enough, in last night's game we had our material components removed and I needed to know what spells I could still cast. My answer on that grappled spellcaster question was helpful!
13:28
@NautArch Speaking of losing components, two sessions ago my party was attacked in our sleep. The assassins used a Silence spell. I was looking at every spell I had and was like "crap...everything is verbal..."
Spaces are important in large companies (and even small ones) partially because everyone uses different editors that may have different tab sizes
@Adam not counterspell!
A few months before that, one of my other characters was forced to hand over his holy symbol emblazoned shield to the enemy due to some mind control. They thought I was out of the fight...until I pulled out a second holy symbol on a necklace I wore.
I think the default on Vim is like 8 spaces (in size), Notepad++ is 4 spaces, and the webpage of our source control is something different
@Adam always carry a backup (pouch/symbol)
13:31
@NautArch True. Unfortunately, life clerics don't get counterspell :p I was asleep when they cast it anyway, so there wasn't much I could do at the time.
mine were removed, but I discovered that a lot of my spells have only V and S components. I was basically exactly the same with my gear as without. Going to pick up a vest with a fleece collar lining for next time so I can still cast illusion spells.
@Adam Wow, Just went through the CLeric list. EVERY spell has a verbal component.
@AnneAunyme so I poked around a little bit, but it turns out that only knowing ten words in French really hinders my ability to have any idea what's going on. Would you like me to chat privately with a french mod, see if they can poke around and then get back to you?
@NautArch Nice! I remember hearing a story on the stack somewhere of a PC wizard who was robbed of his foci and was trapped and ended up escaping using a bit of wood that he scratched off a table and a string he pulled from his own cloak to make an Unseen Servant
@Adam and yeah - our DM thought removing material components would do more to hinder us (me).
@Adam Our druid picked up a pinch of dirt to cast Longstrider.
13:40
@NautArch you gotta educate the masses, yanno?
(don't forget, though--most domain lists will be grabbing spells from other classes' lists)
@nitsua60 good point...didn't check domain spells. Just the standard cleric list.
@nitsua60 Except life clerics, who just get the more common cleric spells
@NautArch You know what, though. I just did. And every domain spell also hass a (V)erbal component. (In the PHB at least. I haven't updated my spell spreadsheet with EEPC or SCAG, but those won't be on standard domain lists anyway.)
So that just leaves Arcana domain:
Well, clerics cast spells by calling on the gods. So they need verbal components or the gods won't notice that they're trying to do anything.
Headcanon: D&D gods aren't omniscient, they've just got really good hearing.
2
13:47
@nitsua60 Well, they're provably not omniscient or omnipotent, so...
@nitsua60 HA! just finished checking PHB, too.
@Oak how hard would "Undo" be?
@nitsua60 there's a ctrl+z in the editor
@nitsua60 requires V
@doppelgreener so there is. (He's trained me, so quickly, to just poke around in those menus!)
13:51
Confirmed: EVERY cleric spell requires a Verbal component. Channel Divinities do not. GOod thing to know if fighting a cleric. Don't have silence, though on my Bard.
He's got a tool for almost every situation at this point. Should find a way to get that in.
@nitsua60 it'd be good to have a button, even if it's one that just tells you to hit ctrl+z like google docs does. (@Oak)
nothing I"d drop for it, though. I like my other spells.
@NautArch Also Divine Intervention doesn't as well. (Granted, it's horribly unreliable until 20th level)
Oak
Oak
@nitsua60 (1) Will think about arrow slits. (2) I feel like most maps don't need a legend, and for those that do you can generate it manually (just dedicate some corner for a list of things with a text label. (3) You can indeed click-and-drag doors, windows etc. for larger versions of themselves. (4) There's full undo and redo support. There used to be buttons for that but I deleted them at some point... that was a mistake - I'll put them up again.
@Adam that could be DM interpretation. If we go @nitsua60 interpretation that Gods have to audibly hear you, then yes. But silent prayer should be sufficient...
Oak
Oak
13:54
I'm currently completely rewriting the menu system (by far the ugliest part of the code), I'll make sure to put the undo and redo buttons back in.
This person is doing really cool short stories about @dungeon_junk items! https://twitter.com/rhovvanion/status/874958210439892993
@Oak (3) wierd. I certainly see that now, but I'd have sworn yesterday that it wasn't working. It's not the cutout thing, either. Works everywhere for me now. Sorry to bug you!
@Oak maybe in the "status" menu? There's plenty of unused real estate there, and it fits thematically.
Oak
Oak
@nitsua60 The "status" and "info" menu are about to be joined, actually
@NautArch If DI were to require you to be able to be heard, then by extension I would think that the Channel Divinity would as well.
@nitsua60 It can definitely help, but please don't feel like you have to.
13:57
@nitsua60 Oh, I thought you meant Saatus.
In other news, my mipui test-dungeon is starting to look like the first one I ever designed, back when I was seven.
@Adam I would agree, but neither actually state you have to speak.
(I'm a big fan of the GIANT door that can only open about two feet.)
(Actually, that's not unlike the first apartment my wife and I had. An unreasonable amount of square footage taken up by stairs and doors....)
Oak
Oak
13:59
@nitsua60 Do you prefer cutout to the other themes?
It was supposed to look slightly less amateur-ish, but alas, being an amateur... it doesn't :-(
@Oak I kinda like "graph paper" the best, for nostalgic reasons. I actually like beige the best, if I were to give it to someone else. I was just in cutout double-checking whether the extendo-doors worked in that theme, too.
@nitsua60 @oak i just found out i can hit ctrl+z to undo things you did even before loading the document
imo undoing should be limited to my own actions this section
I'll confess I'm not sure what you mean by "cutout." It's just "gridless flat" with shading, right? In that case, I'd suggest a name like "gridless shaded."
@oak diagonal walls
@Oak I do think a "grey" theme to complement the "beige" theme would be awesome: it's such a common bit of visual vocabulary for above-ground/underground.
Oak
Oak
14:03
@nitsua60 Was supposed to look like paper cutouts. There is actually subtle texture applied to walls (non-angled ones) in cutout. And the shadows are more drastic, and more things have shadows. That said... I'm not a designer. I need to find one.
@doppelgreener What do you mean? I do have diagonal walls... mipui.net/app/index.html?mid=mkhhk3ugimi&secret=sa7ln5v00jx
I didn't notice that any things had shadows in "gridless flat". But I do notice the difference in the walls, now that you draw my eye to it.
oh! cool.
@Oak if I'm adding/removing a bunch of columns/rows I have to chase the button across the screen. Would it be better to pin it to the edge of the viewscreen?
@nitsua60 i can use those in read-only mode.
Oak
Oak
@doppelgreener Opinion acknowledged, but that will be very tricky to change. Plus I think undoing someone else's actions does make sense
14:07
@doppelgreener wait a minute, I thought I sent you a read-only link?
[expands map a bunch of times]
@Oak particularly given that this is expressly intended as a map-collaborating app.
Oak
Oak
@doppelgreener And does it save properly? Does it show after a refresh?
@nitsua60 you did. if i click on all the tools it tells me it's read-only. but i can undo things and (i think) expand the map.
Oak
Oak
@nitsua60 What, like beige land just with grey tones? Will consider. By the way you're welcome to add a theme, shouldn't be too hard if you have css experience
14:09
@Oak exactly. Heck, I might give that a try....
i refreshed and now i see this O_O
which i presume is not what nitsua60 sees
@doppelgreener Actually it is.... I was playing with magic wand selection, then cut all that water, then pasted. Then "undo"ed, so I was seeing something that looked a like what you originally saw.
@nitsua60 oh phew.
Oak
Oak
@nitsua60 WOW I am relieved
But ghostly artifacts that looked like that ^^ kept flitting in and out of view as I'd move my mouse, so finally I clicked on one and that ^^ happened. (I wonder if perhaps I hadn't completed a "paste," or something?)
Oak
Oak
14:12
@nitsua60 sounds like an active paste indeed, you can hit "esc" to cancel it
ok, right now i'm not able to ctrl+z nitsua60's changes
@nitsua60 sounds like a paint brush/bucket might be helpful? paint some walls with red stone, the ground green, etc

@doppelgreener anyway the fact that undo/redo/resize don't give you an error message in read-only mode is definitely a bug, thanks for spotting it! But much less severe than actually being able to change a read-only map so I am relieved
@doppelgreener that could be good.
@Oak yeah :D
@Oak So it sounds like greener can make momentary (quantum) changes to their view of the map, but not actually save any of them?
14:15
@nitsua60 that's accurate

@nitsua60 It's a client-side app, really, so you can change anything. I just disable buttons so that you won't think everything's okay when it isn't
@Oak I like multiline support in the text boxes.

But the security is applied server-side, so the actual writes are supposed to be blocked
Hmm
Hmm
@nitsua60 Thanks, I have edited my question to be more precise, I do not need complete analysis, but some solutions aside leaving players.

@nitsua60 Thanks! I wanted it to be as hassle-free as possible: Just type text in a box
And yet prevent overflow
It can sometimes create absurd results when the font becomes too small, but one can always zoom in! :-)
14:24
@Oak Well, not always. (I've noticed zoom isn't infinite.)

@nitsua60 That's true
But I guess the browser zoom value will also bork at some point
Some days I think it would be easier for network devices to fire an email every five seconds saying, "Everything is okay, I'm still up!" Rather than look for outages.

A keepalive (KA) is a message sent by one device to another to check that the link between the two is operating, or to prevent the link from being broken. == Description == A keepalive signal is often sent at predefined intervals, and plays an important role on the Internet. After a signal is sent, if no reply is received the link is assumed to be down and future data will be routed via another path until the link is up again. A keepalive signal can also be used to indicate to Internet infrastructure that the connection should be preserved. Without a keepalive signal, intermediate NAT-ena...
My coworker says email isn't enough. They need to physically whisper, "I'm okay." In a Portal Turret-like voice.
I'm sure the data center team wouldn't go insane from whispering racks.

@MadMAxJr It would suck to have the server be basically dead and the only service that still works is the one sending "I'm okay"-e-mails.
@nwp well at least we know the "I'm okay" service is okay
HTTP 210 - On Fire but okay
@Adam also, i was supposed to fight a mindflayer last night that was a leftover from a previous encounter. It ended up being hand-waved away by our BBEG (Lich) calling off the mindflayer and then collapsing the environment around us.
The lich went to cast something (which I thought was on the mindflayer) so didn't try to counterspell him, ut it ended up being on a NPC that was with us. Trapped the dude. Filed away in not-my-problem...ut regret the chance to counterspell a 9th level spell.
A very long time ago in one of my early games, the GM ruled that the bard had stunned the lich for one round, by responding to his dreadful, dramatic presentation of himself into the area, with scathing criticism on presentation, horror concepts, and a grammatically incorrect line of his big bad speech.

@MadMAxJr that's...beautiful. I love my bard. DMs hate my bard.
I believe the bard went as far as to note that the Lich's choice of a rolling purple fog is more of a 'tell' than a 'scare' and that he needs to work with his environment more if he wishes to be terrifying, such as a rolling fog or mist in more natural tones or shadow tones if he insists on playing up his aspect of the unnatural. It was a beautiful 10 minute improv rant.
When he finished the DM, "The Lich simply hovers there, expressionless." "Sweet, I think we have a surprise round."
@MadMAxJr Dang...what level was your group? We're level 12/13 and not yet prepared to fight a lich.
This was 2nd edition AD&D, something like 97 or 98.
I don't recall what level.
The bard was played by a university theater student.
15:12
ah, differen't times
@MadMAxJr of course it was :P
15:25
Just saw a video of a talk yesterday, with pretty ridiculous yet accurate imitations of modern theater
now I will think about that every time I hear the expression "more funny than it should have been"

Q: How should we tag the editions of Rolemaster?

JWTHere is some good info on the various editions throughout it's history. At the very least it might be helpful to get tags to distinguish between the Rolemaster Standard System or RMSS and Rolemaster Fantasy Roleplaying or RMFRP, since these were the most popular versions. As of right now, the E...

16:20
How should we tag Rolemaster? Well by Rolemaster rules we'd look at the appropriate table and roll for a result....
16:49
@MadMAxJr it's rolemaster not rollmaster
[/facetious satire]
@doppelgreener are mods allowed to use the [facetious-satire] tag?
@NautArch very rarely. like how M-rated movies can feature no more than one f-bomb.
How to counter the Locate City nuke: years after the first detonation, people no longer live in large population centers. Villages do not expand above the first few dozen, either exiling entire families or putting them to the sword, in fear of the devastation of a Locate City bomb. As a result, not a single magical item shop can be found as there is no population large enough to be capable of sustaining one.
seeing some questions come up that need @KorvinStarmast to tag "cheese"
@Yuuki eventually, the Locate City nuke is long forgotten. the archaic population-control laws are discarded as unnecessary brutality. new, burgeoning populations begin to form cities, and then start wars, and then someone works out the possibility of a Locate City nuke.
17:05
Hmm... I kinda want to work the plot of Iron Man 3 into a campaign. I thought it was actually fairly good even if most people didn't really like it.
@MadMAxJr sounds like it should be part of the WotC labyrinth
17:30
@Yuuki Dark forces tamper with the forbidden magics behind Locate City.... And rumor has it they're on the verge of Locate Person.
sanity-check me: is this question unanswerably vague without specifying what magic/resources might be brought to bear?
yes, was about to recommend closure
if they do not specify restrictions, shouldnt all tools available count as valid for an answer?
Then Conjure X spells and/or Animate Objects will trump everything. Upcast Animate Objects to 9th level and use Tiny. KABOOM.
17:42
@NautArch BOOOOOM!
(I love animate objects. I've got a bookmark in that page just so's I'll come back to it and write a good Q&A on the mathematics of it some day.)
@NautArch @ShadowKras Looks good to reopen now?
@nitsua60 It's one of my go-to bard spells when we fight beefy, but non-magic vulnerable creatures (generally those also have low AC)
@NautArch It's my go-to spell for making use of 1% of that bag of ball bearings every character of mine seems to buy =)
@nitsua60 Last week, my group's rogue actually made use of those ball bearings, knocked 3 goons to prone and they basically all just plain died after that
17:57
@nitsua60 get those ballbearings silvered!
@Adam Nice. Proning's pretty fun. I proned Strahd a while back and let my party unload on 'im =)
@nitsua60 Yup - just dropped Destructive Wave for the first time. 2 spellcasters and a meaty mook went prone. One spellcaster left who the ranged characers took out and then the others jumped on the prone folks.
@NautArch Thanks, but I think I'll go with the hive mind on this and Eschew the cheese tag.
