@Anaphory I ran into that kind of thing in Polish lately. Apparently the preposition for “in” (w) and “on” (na) are slightly interchangeable* in one dialect (Mazovian), and Mazovian has become dominant in the past 15 years. But all the Polish ex-pats in Canada predate that, so they use w for things where na is now standard.
(* Not entirely interchangeable. As I understand it, na was always used for outdoor spaces while w used for indoor, but in Mazovian na gets used indoor (metaphorically?) when the size of the space is significant. So you're “in” a small household hallway, but you're “on” a large office hallway. It reminds me of how you can be “in the street” in English, but you can't be “in the sidewalk” (normally).)
I was once told a joke (which is apparently side-splittingly funny in the original Russian), about an American who spent years studying to infiltrate Soviet Russia but was exposed by the first random Russian peasant he met, after only saying "Hello."
@BESW That doesn't seem that unlikely to me anymore. :) The Slavic languages are hella complicated in many of the ways that English speakers aren't even aware language could be complicated.
@Miniman I took one look at that question and nope-octopused away.
The unfortunately thing about the Internet is that when people want to do amazingly off-label creative things with an RPG, instead of just doing it like had always been done before, so many assume that there already exists a ready-made answer… and ask us what it is. 😭
@SevenSidedDie I was writing up a standard "you can either refluff or homebrew" sort of answer. But refluffing doesn't work when there's nothing to refluff, and homebrew doesn't work if they're already using a regular character. Maybe some sort of magical item, but...eh.
@Skathix Hi! There are no rules remotely relevant to what your player would like to do, and you don't really need anything other than your existing shared enthusiasm to make up something fun. Just bee yourself. :)
Just make sure that it's mechanically appropriate--you don't want something doing 10d8 dmg every round, or not scaling as the character levels, if it's going to bee an every-round sort of thing.
