torchlight available for free \o/
@HackToHell Says 7.50 here
And I already own it :P
there, i thought it was a referral link ;p
Also GoG's summer sale starts today
Torchlight rules
I still have enough games to play :P
Closing in on 100% on SR3 though \o/
i have started playing Dota 2 again ... best thing about it is that it never ends \m/
:D
@HackToHell Seems like it was a referral link :P
@ruda.almeida Aren't you from Brazil, what's it like there ? :D
14:11
@HackToHell whaaa? :P
I wish.
I thought that was ruda almeda?
@HackToHell @ruda.almeida might be from Brazil
Ah got confused ;p
The only way for me to find a colder, rockier beach is by going to Canada. :P
steam client stuck in offline mode. -.-
14:20
hii
@allquixotic hiiii
Hi!
I am basically swapping an hard disk with Win 7 installed onto a Windows 8 machine that just arrived today.
bye!!!
But it doesn't boot up Win 7.
And if I physically connect the two disks it boots straight into Windows 8 without giving any option between Win 7 and Win 8
The funny thing is on.. my custom built computer, it boots the hard disk just fine.
14:36
@LewsTherin: might be the new UEFI fastbooting thing windows 8 uses
Is there a way to disable this?
from the vagueness, you can guess I've not actually played with this properly :/
Thanks
14:46
The PBX I was just messing with has a section called "System Reset" which contains 2 buttons: Reset and First Start. Reset will reboot the device, First Start will perform a factory reset. The Reset button doesn't have a confirmation. Luckily, I haven't misclicked yet.
That's how close they are together
Oh, it says Restart, my bad
The section is called "System reset" though :P
@OliverSalzburg That's terrifying.
You're 21 pixels away from a really bad day.
@OliverSalzburg @HackToHell Guess you guys are asking about this?
@ruda.almeida: protest or SERIOUSLY wild party?
@ruda.almeida Is that lava or people?
3
@JourneymanGeek protest
14:59
Is it Turkey or Syria or Brazil?
@OliverSalzburg Lava, obviusly. It hit the car in the smaller photo and the guy picked up a flag to extinguish the fires
Protests everywhere. Can't keep track.
@jokerdino It's the US, can't you see the flag and the language?
I only see some Samba dancers.
15:01
@jokerdino Yeah, we 100k+ people were on the streets making wild samba moves to celebrate our soccer team winning. Or something. Dunno.
Only can't figure why there were cops shooting us.
(OK, now being serious; there were no cops shooting. NOT TODAY, with 100k+ people. Yesterday there were 2k people and teargas and rubber buletts);
that in Rio
There were violent riots in some other cities. And by violent I mean violent police
The protest was EXTREMELY pacific. I was there
100k+ in the photo, marching, singing, there were families, people were happy
nah bro. I only believe official statements.
Happy people don't protest! They stay at home and fucking obey!
Some 4h or 5h later, most of the crowd was back home, some 50 people or less went to a legislative building and started shooting molotov cokctails (and LOTS of people think it was an inside job by the police. EVERYWHERE else people would shout NO VIOLENCE)
@OliverSalzburg Yeah we did that for 30 years so I am EXTREMELY amazed
15:04
@ruda.almeida that's the waste. i would have drunk it.
For the last 3 days the ONLY subject I can see on facebook are the protest
all over the country
more than 10 cities
Initially the media was all against us
calling us "vandals', "rioters", "violent".
anti socials
Then the police made a barricade to stop a protest near a soccer stadium, and curralle people into a park where traditionally family and children go, and locked the doors and throwed tear gas. with families in there
I made a youtube video with the start of the shooting
really bad quality
Pretty good quality actually :P
and not the most crucial scenes, only the start of the shooting and then everybody running
shooting starts at 3:00
15:12
@jokerdino Gasoline doesn't taste very good...
For that matter, neither does 151 rum. Might be better off with the gasoline.
@Tanner still better than Heineken.

Q: Email folders inconsistence between webmail and IMAP on Exchange

ruda.almeidaMy team uses Exchange 2010 as mail server. I had some problems with Thunderbird and deleted my accounts data from it, and used the web interface for some time. I moved and renamed a lot of folders. Now I re-created my accounts, it accepts my login data and shows the old folder structure with the ...

15:37
@ruda.almeida That's pretty weird
@OliverSalzburg Found a fix, posting the answer
Based on related linked question, Exchange might possibly be the culprit
why does this have so many upboats

Q: Create a File in command line with specific size?

fasilCreate file using touch command or similar way with exact size required say 14MB as file size. The use case scenario is to test FTP with various file sizes... If we can create a file with specific size it will be useful to verify the FTP tranfer etc.,

@allquixotic I dave no ihea. Do the answer forks wine?
@allquixotic Because it had so many upboats on all the other SE sites
I was a bit confused that we don't have it already
Quick! Post fallocate -l 10G gentoo_root.img ;D
15:53
I'm confused:
Why can't it find the Administrators group? I have groups and built-in selected
It can find the local admin group just fine
@Tanner An object named "Image" cannot be found.
@allquixotic No imgur for you?
@Tanner it works fine; I was being sarcastic
@Tanner An object named "Joke" cannot be found.
oh, lol. for a moment I thought you were clairvoyant and knew exactly what I was talking about but couldn't see the image. TBH it freaked me out a little.
    Because the group is "Domain Local" and not "Domain Global" you cannot use it as a group when adding file security. Unless you are doing so on a DC. You used to be able to with 2000 and 2003 based AD environments.

Try adding Enterprise Admins. That group is inherently a member of DOMAIN\Administrators btw.
ah...
Silly Windows.
I am extremely clairvoyant. ;)
@Tanner I keep wanting to call you r.tanner.f
16:02
I added images to my answer, everybody loves images!

except imgur's servers
they're like, can't you just type it?
AHH! I CHANGED MY NAME!
lool
hm
all to some?
:)
the exact % of quixotic will vary from day to day
a little?
right now about 76.48% quixotic
16:14
is that the amount of water in earth's crust?
if it were, we'd all be slip-sliding all over the place
the amount of water covering the earth's surface then
how do i fix this steam client stuck in offline mode?
haha clippy in your face. you got no results to show.
@jokerdino Put it in online mode
16:16
@jokerdino don't reinstall; it'll delete all your games
@OliverSalzburg trying again and again. no difference.
@allquixotic i did it once. never forget
reinstall!
fuuuuuu
i have tried editing and removing .steam/registry.vdf. nothing happens.
@jokerdino SteamForLinux?
Yeah.
Steam Beta
16:20
perhaps coincidentally, the (stable release of) Steam on Windows for me has been saying offline, although, it can still download new games and purchase games, it's merely cosmetic that it says it's offline, although it's REALLY online in every other way than the display of the status icon
i can't finish downloading my TF2.
i am half way there. just another 2.2 GB remaining
Spah's sappin' mah connection!
you say my neighbour is the spah?
@jokerdino is there someone wearing the same color clothes as you standing behind your computer innocently whistling?
if so, you might want to hit him with a wrench
lol my back is facing the wall.
16:25
@jokerdino seriously, though: i think it might have something to do with networkmanager
does networkmanager say you are connected?
well, i am chatting with you here.
yes but does NetworkManager say you are connected.
you can be connected while NM thinks you aren't
how do I check that?
mouse over the systray icon
cpx
cpx
16:26
How do I check how many clients are connected to the router?
i am connected over the WiFI.
there is no systray here. only indicators. and no mouseover either.
cpx
cpx
Oh wait.
What's that animated paper clip thing on the right?
sudo nmcli con status
zippers
@cpx that's an easter egg; you're supposed to say, "Go away, Clippy"
16:28
@somequixotic why sudo? o.O
cpx
cpx
Go away, Clippy
2
@jokerdino dunno
try without it :)
ok. what should i be looking for?
Default says yes.
@jokerdino the output of the command
@jokerdino oh wait, you're not using Soaring Sheeple or whatever raring+1 is, are you?
i am using raring
16:30
does steam say it works with raring?
no but i dont care what they say
could be a library version conflict
it was on online mode yesterday -.-
fine. run it from the console. i BET YOU there will be D-Bus errors or Network-Manager errors of som ekind
spewed onto the console and silently ignored because they don't do proper GError handling
> LIBDBUSMENU-GLIB-WARNING **: Trying to remove a child that doesn't believe we're it's parent.
16:32
neah
irrelevant
ok it is on online mode now.
wtf happened?
:D
you ran it from the console?
you restarted it?
I FIXED IT?
my quixotic percentage has risen to 82.21%
3
haha. i have no idea what actually happened but suddenly it thought i was online after all
now you can resume downloading at 56k speeds!
it's downloading at a blazing speed of 0bytes/s
back to 90kbps. w00t
16:37
little did you know but you've been downloading TF2 since the moment you were born at 0 bytes / s
it's a pretty big game; it'll only take you infinite years to download it
i have been downloading it since last week.
if i dont lose the progress, I expect to get done with it by next week.
just in time for my college to open.
#fml
i can't believe it's so slow
SE chat must take like 70% of your bandwidth
no. my sister on Youtube takes 70% b/w
someone should come up with a Steam-to-mail service that downloads a Steam game, takes a backup of it and ships it to you on DVDs
you mean Bob mails me?
16:41
not Bob. someone more local, so it doesn't take 3 weeks to get there
Hack?
I'm just saying in general
instead of a CDN, they should use a MDN :D Mail Distribution Network
thinking of it, i dont know how awesome the game speed would be.
"Thank you for your purchase! Your customized Steam DVDs will be delivered by mail within 2 business days."
You can log into a remote windows machine (or VM) with a bigger pipe
Download it
And copy it from the SteamApps folder
16:42
@Hennes ....over your slow pipe, with RDP running. Brilliant!
(As in "copy to DVD or pen drive" then sneakernet / snailmail it)
well yeah
Well, start RDP, start download. Minimise RDP
cpx
cpx
Hmm, I'm going to setup my new router configuration. Which type of security would work best? For example: for "Network Authentication" there's WPA-PSK, WPA2, WPA2-PSK, 802.1X and for "WPA Encryption" there's TKIP, AES, TKIP+AES.
but that would be more expensive for most people to rent a server instead of just having someone mail them
16:43
For starters WPA2
I think EAS was better than TKIP, but I am not sure
@cpx WPA2-PSK with AES, always, unless you're a large enterprise, then WPA2-EAP with TTLS and RADIUS
and you need some serious expensive hardware to do EAP/TTLS/RADIUS
Does a hobby person with radius count as "a large enterprise" ? :)
cpx
cpx
I'm using Windows Enterprise ;)
@HackToHell Actually, AMD and power efficiency to work reasonably well for some of their CPU's
cpx
cpx
@Hennes Why not go for Pre-shared Key in your suggestion?
16:47
Because it is 'less fun' (with fun defined for people who already run Radius at home for fun)
it would be easier to write your own radius server in native x86 bitcode than to decode the process to configure a radius server
@Hennes that counts as masochism
freeradius / openswan seem to have so many configuration options that i wouldn't be surprised if you could build a 3d engine on top of freeradius and make it into Mass Effect 3, without changing its source code
@cpx all you really get from using radius is that users on the network can type their network login and password to authenticate, instead of a pre-shared key
so you can tell them to connect to foo wifi net and type in their SSO username and password, which they use for their corporate email, to log onto their corporate computer, to log onto the corporate intranet, and so on and so forth
@OliverSalzburg Yay, you're sharing with other people the thing I like to do; open multiple instances of Excel :)
17:03
@Hennes It is your cat named Lindsy, correct?
No. You are thinking of his lady.
Lindy. Lindy Hop
@Hennes Hop is her last name?
Her (or technically, it)
@kitten_Lindy
My name is Lindy Hop. I was born 29-4-2011. On 2-8-2011 I found a new home, thanks to the local animal shelter.

Do you love cats more than dogs? @Hennes
17:04
@somequixotic My pleasure. Now gimme that bounty! :D
I had bad experience with dogs. One dog was lovely, the other was dangerous to be with in the same room
That rather coloured my perception of dogs.
@Hennes Bad compatibility seems to me. Did you try to update dog's drivers?
Lock them in a room, do not approach. Make sure you carry a bat to fight it off
@OliverSalzburg not my Q...
@Hennes And when you had first good (Jedi) dog, did you have to clean after he/her did his/her thing (bathroom) when walking outside?

We have laws regarding walking dogs out. If it pooped on pavement, you had to clean after him/her which seems disgusting to me.
17:08
@Boris_yo he tried to update drivers with Intel Windows Behavior Driver v9.10.15.8896 but it created the Blue Whine of Death
The dog was my grandmothers.
We have the same laws, and I am very happy with them.
Before those were introduced we used to have 2-4 dog shits on front of the house. Not very nice.
(Esp not since there was grass on the other side of the road)
17:21
@somequixotic I know, but still ;P
SE Chat hasn't fully realized your name change as it seems
@OliverSalzburg F5
@somequixotic No, I like to see it fail and burn!

Enabled MAC Address filtering as well. :P
It was tricky to get the address of phone.
17:49
Why would you ever enabled MAC filtering? And for which goal (one thing I know: not for security purposes).
cpx
cpx
For security purposes, for example if someone guessed your pre-shared key.
ok wtf is going on with my computer
or sound, rather
or both.
I have no video, music or anything running that should cause any sound/voice
but yet I randomly hear very short snippets from what appears to be a conversation from like a talkshow or something
@cpx It does not help.
the MAC gets transmitted in an unencrypted for. It does not provide any security.
Consider this analogy:
Bad person enters a build and walks to the reception.
BadPerson: Hello there, My name is badMAC I would like access to the rooms beyond the reception!
Reception: Sorry, no. That is off-limits for you.

Bad person sits down and listens.

Someone else enters the same room and walks to the reception.
Someone: Hello there, My name is ValidMAC I would like access to the rooms beyond the reception!
Reception: Sure. Go ahead mister ValidMAC

Bad person remember the name, waits until the other person is out of sight and walks a second time to the reception
3
Exactly. MAC whitelisting is not security
if someone guessed your PSK, you're owned, period
cpx
cpx
I guess it depends on who guesses it. MAC filtering may still restrict access to network unless that person knows a way to hack into MAC address.
18:03
@cpx no. anyone smart or clever enough to guess your PSK is not going to be hindered in the slightest by MAC filtering
that's like saying, "I guess it depends on who breaks down my front door. A tissue paper curtain may still restrict access to my home unless that person knows a way to get through the tissue paper."
cpx
cpx
I think I see the point. You cannot know if the PSK works unless you have the MAC Address.
@Bob But still, what were you talking about?
oooooops
@cpx not really -- getting a valid MAC address takes a very short time, all you have to do is try MAC addresses that you grab through the airwaves
the MAC isn't encrypted
cpx
cpx
I was wondering about another thing while I was messing around with MAC that if the network can only be detected by those devices who have registered themselves into MAC filtering.
cpx
cpx
18:25
Removed all the MACs.
@Hennes I understand this is for better cleaner environment but how can one go after dog and pick his poop? To me seems disgusting and is deal breaker in terms of adopting dog. But with cats it is less problematic because you don't need to take them out to walk and all you do is just change sand.
@cpx the network can easily be detected with or without MAC filtering, and with or without "hide SSID" -- you can't obscure radio frequency emissions from an omnidirectional antenna... once the emissions are emitted, you can't get them back, and people can analyze them as much as they want to
and since all the MAC stuff is done "in the clear" (unencrypted), it is not a security feature
just make your PSK password random, and long, and not used anywhere else, and it'll be fine.
cpx
cpx
I'll give you all a hint. It starts with my university roll number :)
Even if someone breaks into the password, I could still detect it right?
And change it again.
18:43
@cpx you wouldn't necessarily detect it unless you are very closely monitoring your network activity at a packet level.
if someone is determined not to be found while squatting on your network, it would be possible for them to do so and make it difficult (though not impossible) for you to become aware of it.

A: Can other people on an encrypted Wi-Fi AP see what you're doing?

SpiffYes, with WEP encryption it's super simple. Everything's encrypted with the key you needed to know to get on the network. Everyone on the network can decode everyone else's traffic without even trying. With WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK, it's a little trickier, but not too hard. WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK encr...

so with WPA2-PSK, if they know your password then they can intercept all traffic, which means they could see your unencrypted data, but if you use SSL based protocols (SSH, FTPS, SFTP, HTTPS, etc.), then they won't be able to decrypt it even then.
and yes, having "stacked" encryption-on-encryption is more secure than having just one layer, unless all the layers use the same source material to produce the keys, or are all based on the same flawed cipher
so, if you had this stack: WPA2-PSK -> VPN -> SSL, that's three layers of encryption, and assuming that none of the ciphers are mathematically broken, they would have to break all three to see your raw data.
the chances of anyone being capable of breaking all three are exceedingly low. even two is very, very hard.
but it's not outside the realm of imagination that they might guess your WPA2-PSK password and be able to see your plain HTTP (not HTTPS) traffic in the clear
@Boris_yo There is a sort of bag which folds over the dog-poo and which closes with the poo in the bag.

A: Can I replace a SODIMM SDRAM with SODIMM DRAM in my laptop

somequixoticYou do not have DDR4. You have DDR3. "SODIMM" is "Slim Outline Dual In-line Memory Module". The difference between laptop memory and desktop memory is that the "Slim Outline" (SO) part is eliminated. So, if you're getting laptop memory, it must be "SO-DIMM", not "DIMM". Ignore anything about "D...

19:46
Hm, it seems that Sony underclocked the RAM in my tablet (presumably to preserve battery)
@BenRichards not too surprising. thermal profile and battery consumption >>>>>> 5% more speed (or probably not even that much speed)
well I'll take away some of those >s; it shouldn't sacrifice all performance at the altar of battery
thermal profile and battery consumption >> 5% more speed. two only
19:49
What's this mean? Current Configurable TDP Level: 1 [Unlocked]
thermal design power level 1? dunno
That and "unlocked". The max for this processor is 17W, but this is configured at 14W.
can you set it higher? or is it just an information display?
I'm scraping this from hwinfo64.
you may be able to get a slight extra kick if you set it to the normal TDP in the BIOS or something, but watch out for your battery life to tank

asana looks interesting
Hey.. is there a way reason why on boot up it is detecting 2 disks instead of all 3 disks?
Yet in the BIOS menu the storage configurations detects all 3
20:44
@LewsTherin What do you mean "on boot up"? In Windows? Or where?
A font walks into a bar and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here." The font asks, "How can you justify that?"

Question! Is there a way to add to a shortcut's text (you know, the thing that normally just says the path of the target between quotes, in a shortcut's properties) a parameter that says "launch as admin"?
under shortcut properties
@Tanner My problem is that I don't have the compatibility tab for some applications and all of their shortcuts for some obscure reason.
'er... that's a different problem then :P
So I was wondering if I could circumvent the problem with the shortcut code line thing.
Why not fix the problem?
22:08
Because I've asked about it already and no one could help.
Ugly as hell, but maybe it will work
.cmd script with a shortcut setting to run as admin, using "start program"
Sounds like it would work.
@BenRichards Yep boot up
As long as I can just click a normal shortcut on my start screen, how ugly it is is of minor importance.
Heh, that is a difference between you and me.
I would use the ugly hack, but keep looking for a way to do it 'neat'
Simply because it would bother me to do it 'wrong' or 'ugly' :)
22:15
Don't misunderstand me. I'm pretty perfectionist. But I just don't know my way around the deeper aspect of Windows to ever hope to find a solution.
