> Hi, I was wondering if you have found any candidates for your job listings. If so, is there any chance I can get in contact with them? I have always wanted to meet a time traveller. Thanks.
My reaction was basically, "wait - do they think $50k is high for what essentially amounts to director of a 1-man IT dept for a business with 11 locations throughout the state? LOLOLOL GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!"
@Leathe If it's technical restrictions (e.g. no admin privs), you can quite easily run something like Mongoose as long as you can run programs and bind a port.
Or is it microsoft? I downloaded GenuineCheck.exe two times and each time the checksum was different and so it didn't run. Then I tried IE10 and this time it worked.
Oh I see. Yes, well I have noticed that every time I attempt to run or install a program, the laptop screen lights would go dim and I see a message dialogue asking me if I want to really execute a program.
if you're launching that many programs that often, then you're doing something wrong
@cpx Because you are expected to know when you want escalation. Because remembering automatically is dangerous. And because, if a program really needs to be running all the time, there are other ways to start as admin without user intervention (after the first time).
So I am trying to get the current frame of the conversion with this bash command:
ffmpeg -i fd.mp4 fd.avi < /dev/null 2>&1 | perl -015 -e 'print <STDIN>=~/frame=(\ {3})(\d+)/' | sed "s/ //g"
And it actually works quite well except for the fact that it stops after 1 second so it will only run t...
If it's an argument between having to click one extra button now and then, and having my credentials stolen, my computer compromised, probably without any warning signs and no way to fix it barring a full reinstall, I'll take the slight inconvenience every time.
@cpx You would end up spending more time fiddling with security policies and signatures and other crap than you'd spend confirming UAC over half a decade.
@HackToHell Yea, that's one way for automatic launch.
But manual launch? Bah. You're going through the motions of launching the thing anyway.
I have some programs running on start-up like Everything. UAC prompts every time the Windows starts. How can I set a program to make sure that no intervening prompt would appear during start-up?
@HackToHell Also, on a related note, be very very careful that any place you store this kind of 'automatic' elevation (e.g. AHK script) is set to writable by admins only. Not normal users.
Basically, once you're infected with one, say goodbye to your system and possibly a large chunk of data.
@Leathe Yea, two-factor authentication is one of the best ways :P
But there's still more than enough data on most computers for a breach to be serious. Saved passwords. Possible cached credit card details (and typed credit card details) if you do online shopping. Possible identity theft.
@JourneymanGeek Distillation is what makes water pure again. Water gets heated, then it evaporates in the air leaving all contaminants behind and then settles in another container.
