new CPU, yay! I can run skyrim on high without hiccups. My life is complete!
@ЯрославРахматуллин Congrats on life completion! :D
I had to flash the bios for the second time because of a new cpu. Floppies are still good for something!

Bob
00:24
o.O
my BIOS/UEFI loads new firmware from USB mass storage...
I'm not sure it even supports floppies
my UEFI loads new firmware from the internet :P
Well, yeah. I could probably load a dos from a usb stick. But it's more straight forward to burn a win90se boot disc and load the flash utility and bios off a floppy, because the boot disc probably doesn't support ntfs or usb sticks.
and you cant make music with usb sticks!
blah
got tt-rss installed but it dosen't run :/
@JourneymanGeek Post more questions, I need the rep! ;D
its not really AUish
and I have no idea where it goes ;p
it says "Exception: TypeError, eventName.include is not a function"
00:38
Where?
as soon as I log in using the default username and password ;p
Like, is it from the backend or the frontend?
It's too late for me to get into it
now that it mostly works though, I'll just replace it with the current version and see ;p
np
no rush, I need to get back to assignmenting anyway ;p

SuperUser mods are close happy compared to StackOverflow. They're really runing this. I'm using it less and less because my real, valid questions keep getting closed. I'd like to know what type of question IS valid for SU? Cause nothing seems to be.... — Frank V 9 hours ago
@allquixotic Nexus 7 seems to have QC issues: pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2407422,00.asp
@LittleChild could'a fooled me :)
erm ?
@allquixotic they all seem .... major problems
@allquixotic It launches in India an July.. do i go for it ?
you are the only 1 I know who has Nex7
mine works fine
how long have u had it ?
04:24
@LittleChild 6 months
hmm... Let's see.. I am gonna buy one anyways :)
04:37
This question is not being close voted by mods, it's voted upon by users of this site, your question is too localized because idle and maximum temperatures differ from person to person, they depend on ambient temperatures, airflow of your case, and if you did a bad thermal job, you can expect high temperatures. wonders if this is okay
totally
I posted about the same things moments later
phew ;p
ahahahahaha
apparently my brother told my mom he loves the new keyboard

04:41
new keyboard?
oh lol
@Bob: swapped the dead logitech on the shared desktop to a razer blackwidow 2013
Bob
Bob
I'm still happy with my free keyboards :P
the day these break (and I'm forced to use one of the crappier ones), I might get a good mechanical one.. but they're so freaking expensive
@Bob: Personally they're worth it
Bob
Bob
heh. I've been keeping an eye out for any sales. If that ever happens...
same way I got mine ;p
I actually love this keyboard enough that if I go overseas permanantly, keyboard's going into my luggage ;p
Bob
Bob
04:43
are there any laptops using those keys?
Bob
Bob
I guess they travel too far
yup
and are relatively complex
Bob
Bob
huh
Cherry ML

Low notebook profile, 0.272 inch (6.9mm)

So it's definitely possible...
Hey, isn't "-y" the "use all defaults" wildcard in RHEL when running scripts that have prompts?
Bob
Bob
04:45
still a little thicker than most scissor switches, and might not fit on an ultrabook, but the larger laptops could use one
I tried Googling it, but Google isn't being friendly...
I think it really means 'yes to all'
Ahh...
so yeah practically speaking that should be the case
the wildcard is program specific tho
Bob
Bob
@David when googling flags, enclose it in quotes
like "-y"
otherwise, the - is interpreted as don't include this in the results
04:46
Thanks! @Bob... My Google-fu is weak tonight...
So @JourneymanGeek, you think running vmware tools installer with -y would run through the install script without asking questions? I am writing documentation.
@David: ooh, I have no idea
Bob
Bob
inspect the source? :P
since vmware tools is for vm guests, why not make a snapshot and try it?
That's okay. Next week or this weekend, I will have to try it so I can put it in some documentation for the datacenter I work at.
Thanks guys!
g'night!
ahh damn
apparently I forgot to get the powered hub I need to get eventually off DX, and that would have pushed me up to tracked shipping
Bob
Bob
04:50
@David I can take a look at it on Kubuntu, if you want?
The install script should be the same.
I gotta get home or my girlfriend is gonna get pissed...
Bob
Bob
there doesn't seem to be a -y defined in vmware-install.pl
I really appreciate it though!
Bob
Bob
perhaps the installer itself has one though
hmm... I just had to run through the installer 6 times tonight on client machines. I wanted to try it very bad, but didn't want to have to revert to a snapshot if I didn't have to.
Bob
Bob
04:51
you could also try piping yes into it
That would be a good idea too.
Bob
Bob
sorry, I can't actually test the installation right now
currently doing something on that VM :P
it's okay. I appreciate the input. I gotta leave work anyways. My girlfriend wants me to get home. (end of my shift)

@allquixotic perhaps Unity isn't as robust as I thought
The program 'codeblocks' received an X Window System error.
08:05
unity... robust?
Bob

@JourneymanGeek VMware Unity. Not Ubuntu Unity.
Bob

important distinction :P
one I had entirely insufficient evidence to infer ;p
Bob

lol
08:30
ugh
the old reader still hasn't imported my OPML feed
2 days on ;p
amusingly, this is a pretty exciting time for all 2 of us (apparently) who use rss feeds, since everyone's scrambling to fill the gap

looking at the MSO thread about the removal of accept rates...
I don't understand those people who refuse to answer based on a low accept rate :\
Thats silly
Bob
Bob
Even if they feel the asker doesn't 'deserve' an answer, what if someone else has the same question? If they ask, it'll be marked as a duplicate. Of an unanswered question purely because the asker of that one has a low accept rate.
you arn't just helping the asker, you're helping everyone else
Bob

@JourneymanGeek old reader?
08:34
@Bob: the old reader, google reader clone I want to try out
Bob

oh, something literally named old reader? :P
Bob

that explains a lot
the old reader
Interesting what would happen if a person running pirated Windows XP tries to upgrade with Windows 7 OEM legitimate copy?
08:55
its a full install
so nothing
09:07
@JourneymanGeek But Windows XP file are cracked and this is what W7 upgrade can find. It can find the license has been wrong/used and block install stating "pirated copy".
09:18
OEM != upgrade isn't it?
also I thought upgrade versions check to see if there's a previous windows install
NOT check the keys
09:34
What means "No Beeps = No Power, Loose Card, or Short."

How do you troubleshoot loose card and electrical short?
09:51
card is simple
remove and reinstall
short is trickier
best way is to take out motherboard and put it on insulated surface
10:07
then benchtest
start with a minimal set of things, and add until it works perfectly, or stops working
Bob
Bob
10:17
every time I try to install an unofficial package, I break something :P
lol
like a proper unofficial package, or from source?
Bob
Bob
proper package
in this case, teamviewer from a deb package
apparently it has 300 MB of dependencies o.O
earlier, it was codeblocks from a ppa
Bob
Bob
from source (ip6tables) worked surprisingly well with some help from slhck and allquixotic :P
I get the feeling it's installing GNOME o.O
or at least all the libraries
10:40
whoot
down to 28 people in the queue before me

queue?
for importing my google reader feeds into the old reader
I went from 6000 to 3000, to 9000.... and its ALMOST done... over 2 days ;p

you've got to be kidding me
all that trouble
might have been 6000 to 9000

Humm, I'd really like to build something on the Pi right now to make it an RSS terminal :D I'll call it RaSSberryPi or something.
There! I said it! :P
got Oldreader working
> The hair around the universe's plughole is ENTIRE GALAXIES.
its missing one critical thing. Its showing all my feeds
XD
Blah, mine still dosen't run ;p
So now that you people have tried almost every other rss reader out there, what is the best ? ;p
sadly?
still google
the old reader is close but seriously, not hiding empty feeds totaly fucks up my mojo
trying to decide if I want to pay for newsblur ( @sathya seems to like it) or hope digg does some magic
if you don't have like a thousand dead feeds like I do, the old reader is the best option
just forget about using the automated import for now
Well, lots of OSS. Stuff is just going to get better now
11:28
@OliverSalzburg: that's what I keep telling myself ;p
newsblur is a mess, i want something simplistic ;p
going to try oldreader
@JourneymanGeek Get your code pants and start contributing! :D
@OliverSalzburg: lol, another excuse to learn python? ;p
I'll try finishing my tt-rss install now
tt-rss seems to be written in PHP though
yeah it is
11:30
@OliverSalzburg is it nice ?
@HackToHell: i'm having trouble getting it to work
and documentation's confusing ;p
which is PRECISELY why I want it set up on a VM
so I can share ;p
There is an Apache config for tt-rss!
Had to revise my answer ;D
Alright, next step :P
@OliverSalzburg: Your answer worked
Bob
Bob
11:33
@OliverSalzburg quck! claim it as a trademark!
the installer is just fucked up
Bob
Bob
:P
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, my config is identical to theirs, I just didn't see it ;D
@OliverSalzburg: I selected apache when installing
your change worked
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, it just doesn't link the generated config into the apache config folder
11:34
link ?
My initial approach was to write your own config, but that is not necessary
theoldreader.com that's the old reader
oliver's answer to get ttrss working !
its the best of the lot, but as I said, it has one major annoyance
oh
its on AU

Q: Installing tt-rss : files arn't where they ought to be

Journeyman GeekI'm currently trying to install the tt-rss package (tiny tiny rss) on ubuntu 12.10 via ubuntu' s official packages. The installation process seems to have worked - but the files I need to run are on /usr/share/tt-rss rather than /var/www/ something. Its obviously not working for me - the database...

11:38
meh I am not trying it then ;p
sigh There are 31592 users in the import queue ahead of you.

Hi guys!
Could anyone help me with accessing LAN over VPN? I got working VPN server and want to access another machine that is in LAN where is VPN server hosted.
So I got 10.10.100.245 for my machine and 10.10.100.1 for VPN server, the server itself in target LAN has an IP address 10.17.94.16
what OSes?
11:42
Win
all of them?
Yep
Is 10.17.xx.xx on the same subnet or not ?
yes
The target machine, I want to get access to, is 10.17.94.22
Sysadmin on my firm set an static route on 10.17.94.22
So I could access this internal (10.17.94.22) machine through VPN through 10.10.100.1
But I can't remember an IP address I should use to connect to target machine. :)
What it can be?
@HackToHell Do you bro have any ideas about it? :)
I hate VPNs and networking configs are over my head, sorry :(
Ell
Ell
11:51
Hi again
I am stuck :/
@JourneymanGeek Go to /usr/share/tt-rss/lib and run sudo rm prototype.js && sudo wget http://prototypejs.org/assets/2009/8/31/prototype.js
Then it will work
You could also create an installation from scratch or grab a more recent tt-rss package
The version in the package is not compatible with prototype 1.7
in short, the package is just plain fucked ;p
Has been fixed quite a while ago actually, but yeah :D launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tt-rss/+changelog
also... rum?
well, mine's the current latest package
Set up tt-rss !
It's not working :(
11:58
@JourneymanGeek The latest in the repository != the latest :P
version in repo is useless ;p
I guess I can gank the config file ... and...
Well, my installation works ;D
It works for me now ;p
yeah yeah ;p
Need to go to each feed and hit update tho
12:01
how do I remove the alias I created earlier?
The default update time is 15 min and it does not update the feeds after a import :/
@HackToHell: ttrss?
damn it, you guys are faster than me :/
Grr, I want it to be like Google Reader :P
12:03
@HackToHell: that's what EVERYONE wants
A rss post does not expand !! it opens up in another box(?) :/
My display is too small for it to that ;p
@JourneymanGeek :P
and thats the funny thing, I don't think anyone else would have made a decent greader clone until this ;p
Bob
Bob
just get used to a different reader...
acquired tastes :P
@Bob: blah
Bob
Bob
lol
12:04
me wants @OliverSalzburg to hack Tiny Tiny Rss and make it like good old Google Reader :P
@Bob: people like google reader cause it got some stuff seriously right
Bob
Bob
well, you should be able to excuse minor differences..
lol
some of this is pretty major
Bob
Bob
or, if you wanna provide a list of features, we could try adapting that site
I mean, some is userscript fixable I think
Bob
Bob
12:05
the SuperUser RSS Reader! :P
\o/
Now go write it @bob
Bob
Bob
can't be that hard, we have a bunch of developers and a rather nice place if we have problems... so... :P
(I've never actually used Google Reader)
what ?
But how do you live ?
Bob
Bob
with 777 tabs open
and it actually is that exact number
12:07
@HackToHell: apparently there's a large proportion of the population that hasn't realised how glorious RSS feeds are. Then there's Felicia Day ;p
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek tried them before
hated them
far more convenient for me to just visit sites as I want to :P
part of the hate is likely cause the first two clients I tried were Outlook and Thunderbird..
and the feeds I tried were mostly junk
@Bob: that would explain it
@JourneymanGeek lol
Bleh, can't put ttrss on my vps, it needs InnoDB :/
Bob
Bob
@HackToHell can't you install that?
It takes up too much memory :(
I have it disabled
Bob
Bob
12:09
or pay $1/month for the MySQL server?
I am not doing that :P
Bob
Bob
:P
ask @JourneymanGeek if he'll let you use his? XD
This looks nice ;p
honestly, I am tempted to make a VM with every web rss client known to man ;p
12:14
Find one that doesn't use PHP, now there's a challenge!
@OliverSalzburg why o0 ?
there's a good reason for that
lots of rss backends are in PHP
true fact, All my mysql database passwords are truely random, and generated by radioactive decay.
@HackToHell I just don't like it :P PHP programmers tend to be bad programmers :P
I must know, I've been working with it for years!
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek which generator is this?
I forgot :P
12:16
hotbits ;p
Bob
Bob
oh yea
I normally use random.org if I ever need true randomness (which is never... meh)
but passwords? eh, KeyPass/Windows' PRNG is good enough
lol
more like its easier
Bob
Bob
I'm not that paranoid
@OliverSalzburg lol :P
@JourneymanGeek wanna set up newsblur ? github.com/samuelclay/NewsBlur
And it does not use PHP @OliverSalzburg :P
@HackToHell: looks like too much work
now if someone would create a single django app, with a embedded db... that makes sense ;p
12:21
Good @OliverSalzburg will do it for us :P
Lilina is really nice :D !
@HackToHell Looks interesting, even though I'm instantly turned off when screenshots are presented on iMacs :D
Humm tt-rss can not display the original site, can it?
12:24
lol
got it basically running
how do I import feeds?
Lilina ?
tt-rss
not triled Lilina yet
Actions > preferences
Feeds > opml ;p
ahh
yeah doing now ;p
then let me shut this down PROPERLY
then start setting up another VM
nice thing about this is I'm forcing myself to set up the DBs properly, using mysql client, rather than being a pansy and using phpmyadmin
Bob
Bob
12:29
lol
ugh, how do I hide empty feeds?
ok, worked that out
I'll try to grok updating later
augh
I think you're thinking about moderator actions, where I'm just talking about "simple user" review functions. Though, maybe I should look further into this filtering function. But, I suspect we're talking about 2 different things. — killermist 9 hours ago
O__o
Why not just have a look at the damn thing?
What am I missing?
12:48
thats the same thing I suggested
hit skip
@JourneymanGeek Do you think shortened motherboard is an issue that can occur anytime?
Who uses here Evernote? Do you know how to customize scrolling speed of mouse when navigating throughout the note? It makes huge steps for me so I have to use left button for dragging for more precise navigation.
The search is over \o/
