Can anyone enlighten me on connecting to VPNs from browser itself? I've found about WebVPN, but not sure if it needs any extra hardware(e.g. cisco router) or not and if it can be used with any VPN.

I guess. I tried using it long ago when I reqd to connect to a Cisco VPN via a client, but the client didn't support linux. Found it needs server side changes, which are out of my scope so left it

Oh well, you could set up a intermediate computer than connects to the VPN and then another proxy software there, the client configures the browser to the intermediate.

Also it depends on what the client wants to route

therefore, I think it's safe to assume that everything goes through the proxy by default

which I believe you can forward through SOCKS anyway

eh, even if the default options don't have it, FoxyProxy can do it

Perform remote DNS lookups on hostnames loading through this proxy

there's an added bonus with FoxyProxy: you can whitelist specific sites to go through the proxy

so you can list only the internal resources you want access to, and everything else will still load through a direct connection

great for speed and conserving bandwidth

@Bibhas If, on the other hand, they expect the web browser to set up a 'VPN' connection for other programs (other than the browser itself), then, well, that's just stupid

yea, if you're looking for a contained-in-browser solution, go SOCKS

or even a HTTP proxy
