Okay.
@Tom
I did this
while(false !== ($DossierEquipe=readdir($D_Equipes))) {
Then folders are added successfully
But then for some reason no other part of the script can read those folders.
E.g. on my index, now, it says "Number of players in the league : 0."
And when I try to list teams, now, it tells me no teams have been added.
But the folders do exist.
And they do contain their files with their rightful content.
Would you like my full folder?
^^'
Ooooh, found the issue.
Testing...
Bleh, I'm stupid
"NOTHING WORKS SUDDENLY!!" - "How about you apply the same fix to all similar loops?" - "aaaaaah."
And PHP being one of my first programming languages, it's a great one to me. :p
Do you know how you recognise someone who's a programmer to the core?
K, on the server where it's running, go to the command line (Start->Run->cmd). Type cd drive:\path\to\folder and press Enter
Then type dir and copy the list
^When that's their first reflex when telling someone to list what's in a directory.
00:16
@Ariane Yeah, I think with experience you get to know that most of the time, errors are caused by silly mistakes. When you first start out, you tend toward thinking it is some hugely complicated problem - like you assume that the only possible explanation is you have found a bug in the language itself that no one has discovered before :)
@Journey Why is your name in italic?
Channel owner ;p
@Ariane ls /path/to/folder | wgetpaste <3
(Probably want to show hidden files too, and recurse it, and other magic)
Oh, okay.
@Tom The command prompt is evil and as such I fear it.
lol
@Ariane: you must learn the way of the commandline to truely master the machine
@TomWijsman: wgetpaste... may need installing?
00:24
Noes! Whenever it shows its ugly face, I point a cross at it. Vade retro Commandprompta
lol
I used to think so too ;p
@JourneymanGeek Not on Gentoo! :P
its gentoo
EVERYTHING needs installing
No, since you don't have Gentoo until you have installed Gentoo, therefore you don't need to install wgetpaste on Gentoo since it is already part of Gentoo, you see?
One you have Gentoo (and internet and something you want to wgetpaste) you can wgetpaste.
oops
<select name="something">
<option value="0">Zero</option>
</select>

PHP interprets this as $something=[nothing]. How can I have it interpret it as $something=0 ?
00:42
@Ariane Well, did you select "Zero"?
Yes of course.
Why would it be called $something anyway? And not $POST["something"]?
Ah uhm. I have a script that just fetches everything with $_REQUEST and assigns them to their respective variables.
@Ariane I see, and that is working properly I hope? ;D
For everything else, it is.
<?php
foreach ($_REQUEST as $key => $value) {
if (!empty($_REQUEST["$key"])) {
$$key = $_REQUEST["$key"];
}
else {
$$key = "";
}
}
?>
The script.
But waaaait.
!empty.
That's screwing my variable up right ?
00:45
Not so sure. My PHP isn't the best
Well, empty() considers 0 to be "empty".
I usually only use isset() IIRC
@TomWijsman wgetpaste isn't part of my gentoo installation
@Paul Yeah, doesn't appear in my test chroot.
Perhaps more recent stage3 has it...
00:54
Seems I emerged it way too early on...
@TomWijsman Yeah I just checked one I did only a couple of months ago from scratch, and not there
Hmm, now it makes me wonder if it's on the live installation medium.
Cause often the people that need it are still in that phase.
But well, it thus indeed doesn't come by default. Though it isn't hard or takes long to install... :)
@TomWijsman Yeah, that would make sense
Yush, isset fixed it.

@JourneymanGeek because.. of paw prints?

Journeyman Geek You want the old user accounts application not the the new metro one - the "Family Safety" settings link is hidden on the bottom left corner of that - thats the second one on the first row

I know, but still :P
and this is what I hate most about windows 8

I'm reading a thread on OCN where someone tried to remove the HIS from a 3770K... and ruined it

funny thing is the PIV used the same TIM based design, and I removed the IHS off one with a papercutter totally cleanly
oh wait, the original poster's system did start up

Ok well I'm a complete novice when flashing BIOS (done it many many years ago. like in the 90's) and a quick google search everything wants me to install a utility to do so. Machine I want to flash has no OS on it currently. Is there another straight forward way to flash a bios? (Update it)
13:26
@rlemon: what kinda machine?
ECM LX800
the link to the avalue site is broken, trying to find you a live datasheet
yes
13:28
I'm leaning towards seeing if there's a dos bios utility
then making a bootable dos disk of some sort (maybe a USB drive formatted with the old HP drive tool) and flashing off that
the EBM LX800 board (precursor) is the same spec but larger and with no SATA ports. I noticed they have the same BIOS
I just found a CopmactFlash with XP on it - no paging file :P easier from xp?
if it boots, sure
yes that is def' it
13:30
The geodes are somewhat unusual
Its not actually an AMD part for one
it was a national semiconductor made x86 processor
yea I haven't really worked with them much - we use them at work - I only get to play when they want something prototyped.
lol
I wouldn't mind getting my paws on one, but they're probably expensive enough I'd be better off getting a low end 'regular' x86 proc
BSOD
:(
@JourneymanGeek where you from
singapore
ahh
too far to ship
13:33
wait, was the XP install FOR that board?
I have extra pre pre lx800
@JourneymanGeek yea just was flaky before
I wouldn't mind paypaling shipping via airmail
no paging file and all.
13:33
ahh, once again, geodes are wierd
no paging file isn't that bad
pretty common config for CF card installs
hrm.
normally these things run QNX
dos is the safe bet here
spent friday making some dos bootable thumbdrives :P looks like they will come in handy
we just FINALLY eliminated the need for 3.5" floppy drives.
Heh, our modem was losing packets until I pulled its plug; internet, y u no reliable? :(
And mrt is a nice tool. :D

Morning
Can anyone do me a favor?
Depends on the favour
OK, it's something related to VB.
then not me ;p
I think I know that term. Is it virtual basic?
14:11
Visual Basic.
How can basic be visual? I mean BASIC is ancient stuff, the visual C, visucal C# etc is all new stuff?
LOL
@Hennes: Don't confuse the poor lad with the facts ;p
@JourneymanGeek I am a decent programmar, lol stop that.
/me is guessing VB6. Is just wondering if this is of a nature that wouldn't fit on SO
14:13
VB is not multi-platform, so I don't use it
I just need screenshots
also we have a sort of programming channel here
of VB apps?
>_>
Thanks, link?
Oh wait, is it on SO?
fake programmers

 Fake Programmers

The room for elite Super Users who realize they know nothing a...
Its 'ours'
LOL
That description is very insulting, but nonetheless.
Ok, serious now. I never coded in VB. I have run a few existing VB scripts. I have modified them with 'cut-and-paste-and-guess programming' and I have broken them by adding new groups to Active Directory. (The scripts read information out of AD and broke when I added a group with an ampersand in it).
That is all of my experience with VB
14:16
lol
@Novice: I'm not a coder myself
You don't need to know VB at all, I promise.
I just need that shit installed on your computers
@Novice: why not just spell out what you need?
people.. install.. vb?
I thought its always there, like stomach bacteria
Well, you can do things in VB.
Not on my Windows
Some string manupulation e.g.
14:18
and I'm not going to run software from someone I don't explicitly trust on my systems
But I solved most of my needs by ignoring the vb scripts and doing the work in vim
I just need y'all to type out some code and take a screenshot of it O_O
(Yes, vim. sub/this/by_that/g), swap a few lines so address and client order matches etc
And to make a very short form
14:19
That, I'd do on a VM, had I one handy
in Super User Blog Editor Room, 22 secs ago, by Tom Wijsman
This room has been prevented from becoming frozen.
Also, where did our blog stats go... :(
Right, I programmed something. Yay me. (I also made coffee)
#include <stdio.h>

int
main(int arg_count, char *argv[])
{
  if( arg_count<2 )
  {
     printf("Usage: %s name.\n",argv[0]);
  }
  else
  {
    printf("Hello %s!\n", argv[1]);
  }
  return 0;
}
I realised I had not yet written a hello world or similar on my new computer. That needed fixing.
14:43
Okay, so my browser isn't to blame for the horrible performance :D
Is there a recommended tool or anything to benchmark an SSD? I've got an old (~4 year old model, in use 3 years) SSD in my laptop and I'm wondering if it's why my laptop seems much slower and gets "read thrashing" when my desktop's SSD totally doesn't
@BenBrocka CrystalDiskMark maybe or good old HDTune
I tried to load Mega but I left after watching the loading icon for a few seconds....the front page has to load? Honestly?

Hello, y'all! I need some help figuring out a solution for doing backups on a LAN with an Active Directory Domain. I asked a question here: serverfault.com/questions/471048/… but have only gotten flak for asking it, I'm thinking to delete my question.
@BenBrocka Is TRIM enabled? Did you accidentily left automatic defrag turned on (horrible for a SSD), ...
14:47

A: Take automatic backups of all computers on network

Oliver SalzburgThe Open Source and free BackupPC might be a solution for you: BackupPC Features [..] A clever pooling scheme minimizes disk storage and disk I/O. Identical files across multiple backups of the same or different PCs are stored only once resulting in substantial savings in disk stora...

@OliverSalzburg I'll give one of those a try. I hate to replace the old thing but I'm realizing a $90 SSD today is better than the 4 year old $600 SSD that's in there. Just not sure if it's the SSD that's the problem
@OliverSalzburg Is it fast ?
BGM
BGM
@OliverSalzburg - Thanks - I'll take a look at that.
Why try to back up the whole LAN? Do not store data on most computers. Put it all in a fielserver
@HackToHell I wasn't even able to upload a single file so far.
When MEGA opened, the uploads would just sit in the queue and do nothing
14:48
boo it's been a long time since the opening
Now, the progress bar fills to a certain point, then resets, fills again, and so on
BGM
BGM
@hennes - I can't get my users to work that way.
Ouch.
The progress bar is not even filling up for me
BGM
BGM
@hennes - besides, I also need to backup user settings.
14:50
Then you probably have the problem of an invoice on person 1's computer, a corrected invoice (same on, just aname fix) on the computer of person #2, a reminder from user 3, ... ?
@HackToHell Yeah, that's how it was originally for me. And I'm just using a folder of tiny files
I am uploading a 70kb file :P
50gigs of storage is a LOT though
BGM
BGM
Yup. I've lots of problems.
Well, if you ever upgrade: Standard images, fileserver, ... Or terminal server
BGM
BGM
@hennes I am thinking of a special machine on the network that can go onto each computer and take images or synchronize files to itself.
14:53
still trying to sign up for that ;p
@HackToHell Yeah, but useless if upload isn't working :D
BGM
BGM
Well, this seems like a slow morning, so see y'all later.

it IS a lot faster in chrome
hmmm mega.co.nz points to a US ip

I think they got multiple hosts
@OliverSalzburg: seems borked for me too

@OliverSalzburg: time to finish "infinity:NAN:NAN:NAN"
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, that's what I got

I'll try it in a few weeks

Does Facebook still keep phone numbers?
Trying to find an old friends number and... well, Facebook.
I'm so lost.
Can't believe I've had my Facebook deactivated for two years, and the thing that gets me to log back on is work. :|
16:24
subst/Does Facebook still keep phone numbers?/Does Facebook still keep phone numbers in a place where non facebook (corp, not users) can access it. :)
One word: encryption.
Ehm, costs effort and money, so I am reasonably sure FB does not use it anywhere.
16:40
What the... I just gained 40 rep
magic?
@r.tanner.f Apparently
The graph shows that I gained 0 today, but I had 21514 earlier today
Now it's 21554
Pressed refresh?
Definitely magic.
I Know that when I open firefox it will show me new questions and old rep
16:47
@Hennes Yeah, I've been switching pages a couple of times
I still have meta open on another tab where it still shows the old rep
I am guessing meta will also show new rep after a refresh
@Hennes Yeah, so do I. But where did the rep come from? :D
Maybe something old was undeleted :\
Better not question it ;P
OMG. Real:
"Barclays closed my Barclaycard because I never used it. Ever since then, I've been getting junk mail inviting me to apply for a Barclaycard. "
lol
So I had a strange, strange experience yesterday. A year ago we applied for all kinds of government help-me junk when I was out of work and going to school. Turns out we got a food card but didn't know about it. So we got a letter saying we had to spend $1,200 on food by the 21st or lose the balance.
I don't understand how people can go hungry in the US. There's so many government programs...
17:13
@r.tanner.f I don't even get that type of treatment up here!
It's 75% of my wages in the past 52 weeks and that's it, for an entire year
@Luke It's crazy. We were drowning in help we didn't even need. I always thought it would be awful and stressful to quit work and go to school. I'd never had so much money and food.
Well, send some my way!
I'll be in Southern BC next week anyways :P
haha, wish I could make it up to Canada. I think I need a passport now?
17:40
We can use an "Enhanced Drivers License" to pass to the states via sea or land
18:08
Anyone ever see messages from Windows PCs on a domain, saying that a possible breach in security has been seen when accessing folder shares?
@Luke No. That sounds... odd.
event log?
18:30
Nothing weird
Even after restarting, it brought the message up when accessing the mapped drive
And yet, if you double click the drive letter, retype your password, it goes like there's not problem
18:45
@Luke Never seen that
o... m... g... Coworker just told me she paid a "Microsoft Specialist" she found online to fix Office for her. Now her computer "has problems"...
OK what to do when the BIOS shows the drive when I go to select my boot device... but windows and windows installer do not show the device. :/
Windows XP SP2 / drive is 180GB SSD / board is ECM LX800 / me is stumped
19:03
@rlemon You probably need drivers for the SSD
19:17
ok... back to google.
@rlemon no luck with drivers?
tbh don't even know where to start - google was my first guess :P
I try not to deal with this stuff too often. but when the boss asks you to do something you don't just say no.
ah lol
Windows XP probably doesn't have the proper drivers to recognize the SSD
while you're at it, update to SP3
SP2 is... broken.
See if you can download the drivers for the SSD and load them up
@rlemon are you trying to reinstall?
well from another suggestion I got I'm loading up linux from a livecd and seeing if I can mount the drive there.
@r.tanner.f no. prototype deal - board normally runs QNX
so I had a blank CF that took winXP SP2 image fine.
but we needed more space and had some SSD's laying around so thought i'd put one on it.
current thought: if linux sees it and I can put a ms-dos partition table on it maybe windows will as well?
not if it's a drivers problem :P
19:31
well this will help narrow that down won't it?
yeah, I'd be willing to bet linux will see it
ms-dos partition table couldn't hurt anyway
so if fdisk -l returns nothing... I should be concerned?
19:54
Anyone got an idea of how to give a developer permission to write to a directory without modifying the directory's permissions or ownership?
I posted as a question, but it got flagged as a duplicate, and the duplicates didn't answer the ?? :-/
give him root access
trying to avoid that
I want him to have access only to the devsite
at least for now
add him to the group temporarily ?
I tried that too. I added him to the cpanel user group, but it still gives permission denied when editing anything in the dev directory
I was gonna chroot him to the dev directory, but I'm still fighting perm errors with him being able to edit
can;t change owners either, it breaks the site with a 500 eroor
error*
Add some more info to the question (see slhck's comment to your post) and it could get reopened. It was very hard to understand exactly what you needed from the question as written.
19:58
@terdon that
I'll be happy to reopen then, but atm it was too vague, sorry.
Is it just me or is this comic off by a factor of 100?
Yea, I just saw he commented! Switching back. Hopefully I can get this sorted. Thanks :-)
@DanielBeck how so?
@terdon multiplying by 0.01 gives 1%, not 0.01% (100%-99.99%)
Alright, I'm an idiot.
:)
Heh, @DanielBeck , I think finding an error in xkcd is almost as good as getting a Knuth reward check
20:09
@terdon My compilers and programming languages professor at uni had a few of those as well.
20:23
@Joseph Question reopened, thanks for adding more info. Note that we can't smell if you already thought about chroots, which is the go-to situation here :)
Found the issue... DNS server was incorrectly set by another "tech"
@terdon Users need 20 reputation to be able to chat
@terdon I was excited for a second =D lol
ohhhh xkcd math error, but no :P
@Luke What was your DNS problem?
20:47
@slhck I thought that was not the case for the ask a mod room. Sorry.
Ah, and you already deleted my comment, I was just about to do that, thanks.
@r.tanner.f They had their email tech add the Google DNS server as the primary, and keep the router DNS server. Completely took out the new Windows Server DNS in the list, so all the names were not working until multiple reboots and someone finally told me another tech was messing in there

Q: Custom/personal dyndns solution?

Eddie ParkerI can't think of how to make this work, but it seems like something that should be doable.. I currently own my own domain, and have been using dyndns.com's "custom DNS" to allow me to redirect 'example.com' to my website at home, which is on a dynamic IP. I've now switched over to a VPS solutio...

@terdon I wish we could make an exception for that, but that's a general limitation for the chat
I'm not understanding the close votes?
@r.tanner.f Maybe someone was reading only the "Is there any software available" and "Ideally I'd like not to pay a service" parts
