@HackToHell Who they take this time? Grandpa?
@TomWijsman They don't do anything in WMP for example.
What does WMP have to do with Media? I ain't got a WMP on my Linux.
@slhck Great, happy marriage!
@TomWijsman What do you mean by media? CD player?
Anything that's media.
@TomWijsman Well keys do nothing that I am looking for. Maybe need hotkeys software for assignation.
Usually drivers do that, which ones depend on the manufacturer.

Thank you all :) @Sathya @HackToHell @Bob @TomWijsman @Boris_yo

And now, stop pinging me because I'm chilling in Paris, haha :D
@slhck Bonvoyage!
@TomWijsman Bummer, successful BIOS A08 update didn't fix Turbo Boost problem... That's 2 updates in a row today.
@Boris_yo What problem are you experiencing with Turbo Boost? Glad the BIOS updates worked themselves, because it's a really risky business.
@TomWijsman But I was talking with Hennes today and was told that it is better to do in Normal than Safe-Mode because average users won't perform this from Safe-Mode.
@TomWijsman I thought it is fixed in A08 but seems that it wasn't exactly problem I experience.
Depends, it should be done in Safe Mode if you don't want a stupid random unusual event to break down your BIOS. But well, in the end, it's based on luck... :)
@TomWijsman Which event? FYI it does not update BIOS in Windows environment. I just see progress bar for a couple of seconds and then system shuts down and restarts into BIOS update process.
17:16
@Boris_yo A stupid random unusual event.
@Boris_yo: If you can, you could see if Turbo Boost in Linux works.
@Boris_yo Oh, I see, that's a secure approach.
@TomWijsman I have Ubuntu installer... Does ir support TB?
@TomWijsman Are you trying to say that usually BIOS is update in Windows environment?
@TomWijsman Once second BIOS read-only chip is implemented in every laptop that can be activated externally, then BIOS update will be the least risky business.
17:30
Apparently SSD is a broad abbreviation:
How to properly handle solid state disk?
I see this warning on package:
17:43
Alright. Time to do some recabling. See you when I'm reconnected :D
@Boris_yo Yeah, would be nice to see that kind of stuff go mainstream. BIOS problems? Flash default BIOS again, no more bricked motherboards!
@Boris_yo Just make sure you have a lot of static, touch some metal in your house and you should be fine, I think.
@Boris_yo From Google it appears it does.
Just saying it could be a way to figure it out if it is either Windows or the BIOS that is wrong...
As for BIOS updates, yeah, some run from Windows. :(
17:59
@TomWijsman Probably more suitable for previous years' computers but in BIOS updates are more safe?
Yeah, as you've shown I think they are becoming more safe.
@TomWijsman I read that by switching power strip off with switch, you can safely ground without expecting any charge just to be on safe side.

Heh
I am getting hungry and my answers on superuser are getting cranky.
@Boris_yo No, no, no... See the pictogram on the image.
This is about your electrostatic.
Of course you need to turn off the computer as well, but that's normally grounded... :P
Hmm, do you need to?
SATA and SAS are usually hot pluggable.
..... if they follow spec .....
.... and if your PC/controller follows spec ....
So if you just put your hands on something fluffy, you could damage the controller if you were to touch the connector. It's just a warning that you avoid the former as well as be wise enough not to touche the connectors...
@Hennes: True, but I wouldn't hot plug on my laptop.
I often hot plug a HDD in my laptop.
The main drive OS is in a caddy in the CDROM bay
Could be that mine supports as well, haven't checked it.
19:27
The old drive gets swapped between laptop and desktop as a fast 'pendrive'
sometimes I forget that the laptop is still on.
Surprisingly it just works.

@Bob ever needed to find a light switch in the dark? ;p
