@sidran32 he he
@OliverSalzburg: eh, one of the things that annoys me about my current keyboard (the new model of the blackwidow fixes the other one). You can't remap that key either, which annoys me cause i prefer the thinkpad position for the fn key at the bottom left
00:44
@JourneymanGeek Wow, that is excellent!
hey guys. I am trying to switch to gVim for editing and I need some help configuring it. Is anyone here using it?

3 hours later…
04:10
@JourneymanGeek I was working on my KittyLock app and I accidentally locked myself out from using my computer. I had to restart it. :( lol
@iglvzx: See? IT WORKS TOO WELL ;p
morning
@Sathya Good evening :P
This shouldn't be as funny:

Q: How can I automatically add "Dear sir" to every new Outlook 2007 email?

senyor toniI usually put the words "Dear sir" at the top of every message I send in Outlook 2007. I'd like that this was inserted automatically like Outlook does with signatures. How can I do this?

@iglvzx evening :P
@JourneymanGeek The only obstacle left is too disable Ctrl+Alt+Delete. I think you can disable in in the Registry.
04:25
anyone know how to get an html element to go from the top to bottom of the page?
style="top = 0px; bottom=0px" does not seem to do it
You'll want to use colons with CSS
@iglvzx, sorry I meant `style="top: 0px; bottom: 0px" looking at the link
@iglvzx: though it should be pretty hard to do a three fingered salute by accident
@JourneymanGeek I suppose it would only be to stop someone from turning off the computer or logging out. If the mouse/keys are disabled and you open the task manager from Ctrl+Alt+Delete, the task manager shows up but you're back to being locked out. Mwa ha ha
05:04
@iglvzx If you are typing like a cat then you have to expect things to go wrong
@soandos Of the page? Or the screen?

Q: Oil cooled computer

user11177I have a computer outside its case. All the components are attached and working properly, the problem is that fans dont seem to do a good enough cooling when demanding programs such as high end games are run, so the fans go crazy sometimes and the room with the computer gets increasingly warm esp...

@IvoFlipse: How is it?
Working on the unboxing :P
09:09
@IvoFlipse unboxing pics / videos
uploading the pics
Had to do some redecorating :P
Its a tad wobbly on my standing desk too
Damn this is large
@IvoFlipse: the stands being a bit crap is a known issue ;p
and damn that looks goood
any suggestions for a better background
still had the default Windows 7 one
09:14
ehm
Super user wallpaper?
well, i myself have a cosmic wallpaper slideshow
Sorry I ended up with one of my own pics of Bryce :P
Too bad I can't power my third screen now
not enough power sockets?
Not enough GPU sockets :P
09:19
lol
That's the one I deleted yesterday :P
lol
@IvoFlipse Who did you purchase from? Did you pick a specific seller?
green-sum
cheap and a ton of good feedback
Which one is the one your picked?
Gotta inspect the packaging ;D
09:23
The package was wet at the bottom, but I bet that was DHLs fault
but didn't get inside I believe
They even have 30" O__O
Those are even more expensive
But pick the one with an accessible mount at the back
so you can replace the stand easily
Can't detect any dead pixels though
but haven't tried really hard either
@IvoFlipse Does yours have that?
No, mine is hidden behind the backplate
The different offers are a bit confusing. Still comparing
09:25
You can screw it open to get to it though
There's another seller, something with big in his name, that's supposedly very good too
I seriously need some better mount fall all the screens though
to put the smaller ones at an angle or something
09:51
How did you connect the 3 displays?
Video-wise. As the IPS one is Duallink
I didn't
My GPU has two dual link ports AFAIK
Well put differently, I have two screens running of it and one of them is big ass
But I don't know what new GPU to buy yet, I'd probably use that one for this screen or move both smaller ones to the new one (given it'll probably be cheap)
I wasn't even aware that there are single-plug dual-link DVI connections...
Sweet, mine has 2 Duallink as well :D
Now I just need to be able to use my card and my Intel HD Graphics simultanously.
Hopefully that's possible
@OliverSalzburg Hope it isn't a k-series CPU
That's your GPU, your CPU might not allow it
Oh
Ah, the k-series were slightly cheaper, right?

Q: Should I get integrated graphics if I already have a dedicated GPU?

Ivo FlipseI want to upgrade my computer to the new Sandy Bridge CPU's, which features integrated graphics. However, you have to choose between two types of chipsets: H67 or P67. Now since I already own a GTX 460, so is there any added value to using the integrated graphics? Or are there any other good ...

Of course I have a K-series... :P
No, they were the ones you can overclock, which I believe meant you couldn't use both
Might depend on your motherboard too, the newer ones could handle it
10:03
Well, maybe I should just give it a quick test
But I hate reboots :(
Bob
Bob
@IvoFlipse It's the motherboard
Well, I have a P67 MB and a non-k CPU, no integrated graphics :\
That's my board intel.com/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/… It has a skull on it. It better be awesome
@OliverSalzburg Looks can be deceiving
Bob
Bob
and Z68 wins :P
it's like H67 and P67 combined... kinda
I'm just gonna see what my BIOS tells me... BRB
Bob
Bob
10:05
I remember seeing a driver to let someone use QuickSync for transcoding while using a PCIe card for display
@Bob Indeed
@Bob That came with my board
Bob
Bob
lol
BIOS has an "Always enable" option for OnBoard Graphics :)
Bob
Bob
10:14
When I first saw that, I was so happy. Then I saw it wouldn't work on a P67 :\
Back to CUDA...
This Greenshot Imgur upload is driving me crazy
That is getting more unreliable by the day
I wonder if that is my fault. With excessive uploads
Bob
Bob
nice
It's a damned horror to get into this BIOS :P
But only because I forget every time how to do it :D
They have some pretty cool optimizations and skip a lot of the BIOS stuff. But that means you can only get in by powering down and then powering up while holding the power button, otherwise it will try to start the boot process as quickly and directly as possible.
@OliverSalzburg You automatically upload it? I just dump it into Dropbox (not needed though) and upload to chat :P
Bob
Bob
@OliverSalzburg Is it an EFI system?
10:26
@Bob In theory
Bob
Bob
uhm?
@Bob It supports it, but I don't use it
Bob
Bob
ah
er
you don't need lucid if you're using all your connectors
Bob
Bob
my computer has an EFI config screen thingy ("ClickBIOS"). Windows is installed in the old BIOS/MBR mode, though.
10:28
with windows 7, the original pre-lucid way of using quicksync with a discrete card was to plug a monitor into it
er
also K series has a video adaptor - the the P series motherboards in SB that didn't support it
also, if i am talking out of my ass, ignore it ;p
10:49
Jesus Christ PayPal!
This service...
What did they do?
Well I guess it's all in my best interest ;P
The didn't want to let my use my company CC as that is linked to our company account.
So I simply wanted to pay directly, but that wasn't possible because I was logged into PayPal
I've actually had decent luck with them ;p
10:53
Had to clear my cookies to break out of that
(unlike many people)
ouch
But you can no longer pay without registering an account!
So it tells me, you can't register an account with that card. It's already in use...
Great
So, I go back to PayPal and select a different payment method: Credit Card
And it sends me to PayPal O__O
Stuff like that can ruin my day
And only my boss has the creds for the company PayPal account, and he is AFK right now. When he returns my session will have expired...

@Bob he meant that i edited the post as soon as he posted his answer.

that's... a little broad?
@jokerdino Ah. The accept/reject/improve suggested edits thing would be a little confusing for new users, though...
@Bob yeah he hit on improve button and then unticked the helpful checkbox.. not that i care too much, it just annoys me a little
ok, why are we flooding the suggested edit queue again?
What is maximum upload you get guys when uploading photos to Facebook?
@JourneymanGeek Safe mode?
more like the question itself ;p
12:18
Heh, I just got a Necromancer badge
@JourneymanGeek What's wrong with it?
For an answer I gave 2 years ago :D
but yes boris, post that as an answer ;)
Cause i do believe thats correct, i was complaining that it was unclear and rather badly worded
@OliverSalzburg When is the promotion to Lich?

@Boris_yo: Its probably correct.
I REALLY do mean post that as an answer
@jokerdino cheers.
@JourneymanGeek Why me?
@Boris_yo last chance else I'll post :P
12:22
Okay, posting.
I have another idea. which i'll also post ;p
ugh, someone suggested what i was thinking ;)
@OliverSalzburg What, they limited you?
@Boris_yo Don't know yet. I contacted them and asked if they're throttling at all or if it's an issue on my side
What upload speed do you have guys when uploading pictures to Facebook?
@Boris_yo No idea
12:30
@OliverSalzburg I get 60KBps no matter what is my max upload.
@Boris_yo It's been a long time since I've been on Facebook. But when I was still on it, I can't remember any issues with upload speed.
@HackToHell F7 is also nice :P
Better than the up-and-down game anyway...
13:08
@slhck how'd you do those mockups?
13:29
first edit summary was: "let's now yell"
@OliverSalzburg What does F7 do ?
I was always confused by this policy. Does the question superuser.com/questions/455462/how-to-remove-watermark-from-pdf have a chance of getting reopened if it's reworded?
@HackToHell Shows a command history
@OliverSalzburg that's AWESOME ;)
@OliverSalzburg How do you upload to imgur from greenshot ??
13:44
@HackToHell You need a 1.0 beta
Or do you?
I don't know actually, but the button is right in the interface in my version. Imgur plugin has to be installed obviously (comes with Greenshot installer).
@OliverSalzburg yep you need 1.0 beta
@HackToHell I'm running 1929 right now
The latest update didn't work right for me.
But 1.0 is a major improvement
yay it's working
@HackToHell 1.0 also finally has dropshadow effect (among others)
Hi @OliverSalzburg. Could you clarify something for me?
13:57
@Dennis I'll try
The question superuser.com/questions/455462/how-to-remove-watermark-from-pdf got closed as off topic. Is the problem, as Luke says in the comments, really just the wording?
That is, would it get reopened if it asks "How can I...?" instead of "Which tool can I use to...?"?
@Dennis I would consider the wording problematic, yes
It sounds a lot like a software-rec question.
But if the parts asking for software get edited out, it would be OK?
@Dennis I'd feel much better about opening it if an answer included a how to do it.
I'm editing my answer as we speak, including a complete how to.
14:04
@Dennis Awesome!
That's more or less why I'm asking. It makes no sense to answer a question that will get deleted eventually. :P
And, yes, if you can make the question sound less about a software recommendation, I'd be glad to reopen.
Especially if you provide a full solution.
The solution will be rather specific to this PDF, but there are only so many ways to add a watermark to a PDF, so I expect it could be easily adapted to others.
@Dennis I rather see a valid example than nothing at all :)
Thanks for your help. Can I ping you when I finish editing the question?
Or should I just flag it?
14:26
@Dennis either should do
@OliverSalzburg Not really an issue, just upload throttling or not throttling, because in Prague upload limit was also applied.
14:44
is this mike on?
ahh, yay, i was having trouble getting into chat for a bit
15:06
@Sathya: Could you take a look if superuser.com/questions/455462/how-to-remove-watermark-from-pdf/… can get reopened now?
15:25
This question should get answered (I'm thinking it could even be a community wiki) but I'm too lazy/tired to do it myself...

Q: what does specs of processor stands for

SandyAll peoples have their own criteria that they look into a machine(PC or Laptop) before buying it, me too have mine. I have some understanding of hardware stuff so I look for few things in a machine like 1. Does machine has HDD or SDD, if HDD then what is the speed in RPM. 2. For RAM(DDR2 or DDR3...

@Dennis Dennis, amazing answer! Never knew you could strip watermarks that 'easily' (ok, you've got great instructions lol)
@HaydnWVN Thanks. Took me a couple of hours, but I got obsessed. :P
Heh. I messed with my fonts while Chrome was running.
@sidran32 The gammar in the OP saps whatever interest i may have originally got when reading the title
Really weird stuff is happening
15:32
Lol nice, corrupted fonts
?
@HaydnWVN No, I just installed a couple of new ones
Most stuff still looks normal
@OliverSalzburg any other artifacts that do not involve fonts?
15:49
like icons/cursors etc
love that Sathya, i saw a jpg of the OS names and how they're going to eventually phase out
@HaydnWVN heh, got a link?
@soandos No, only fonts
@soandos The last time this happened, the moderator diamond turned into a rook :D
nice
@HaydnWVN Ya I know.
@Sathya trawled through my images and can't see it, dammit :(
16:05
Sometimes I feel weird browsing the Superuser site at work whilst wearing my Superuser shirt. Like right now.
@Sathya Woah... that's really cool :o
yep.. just spotted in my twitter stream
@sidran32 what's cool about it?
@Sathya Neat. I can't get enough of Metro :D
16:09
@HaydnWVN Outlook in my browser that's not tied to an Exchange server!
Now if it has/if they add the ability to add third party email accounts, like the desktop client, then it'd be totally awesome.
Also, yes, Metro is pretty sweet :)
I'm opening it in chrome but just opened it in IE... still don't see what you're getting at... The web interface is the same as live.com etc?
don't think much of the green tacky looking vaio lol

You can’t fix what you can’t measure, so the first thing we did as a part of our Summer of Love campaign was try to measure friendliness in an objective and repeatable way. We gathered 7000 comments from Stack Overflow and submitted them to Mechanical Turk. For each comment, we asked 20 people to rate the comment as Friendly, Unfriendly, or “Neutral/Unclear.”

There are different ways of massaging the data, but I do want to give you a flavor for the kind of comments we’re talking about when we’re talking about unfriendly comments. Here is a snapshot of the com …

Anyone here have a yahoo account?
@soandos yes
@Sathya if you log in, does it let you get past that new version dialog?
@HaydnWVN It's Metro-ized version of Outlook. If it follows the Outlook name fully though, after it gets out of preview, I hope it actually could replace the standalone application.
@soandos hang on, let me check - haven't logged into that account in months
Superuser just went down
17:06
That it did.
Yahoo Mail just went down
@sidran32 it is up for me (both of them)
It's down for our entire office. And: downforeveryoneorjustme.com/mail.yahoo.com

Q: Superuser just went down

soandosWhat is going on? Is there an ETA on when it will be back up, and what the problem may have been? Below is a picture. EDIT: It is back up now, but would be nice to know what happened/is happening.

17:15
@soandos I don't know. SU came back up for me again.
@sidran32, fixed link
Oh, that site is even better :P
@sidran32 its the same site :) just the expanded thing (i got the free trial)
Ah neat :)
Well, if I'm in Winter Haven, FL, USA, then mail.yahoo.com would work fine. Too bad the rest of the US seems to have trouble getting there. :P
@sidran32, nope. Found != OK
17:18
Oh? Does that just mean the server could be pinged but that's it?
that is a different test, hold on
Just was curious about found vs ok. Found means DNS resolved?
:P
I assume so
@sidran32 I can see the mail page though...
I still can't. And Outlook is failing when it tries to connect.
17:25
Ok, now it's loading, but verrrry slooooowwwwllllyyyy
That was weird. I wonder if they had a monkey in the server room.
Its now up for me (not new version though)
Hello, I am looking for a usb hub. I am not a gamer. I need a (cheap?) hub possibly with (facultative) external alimentation. On amazon.it the choice is not very ample: there is this amazon.it/Roccat-Apuri-incl-Mouse-Bungee/dp/B002GYYP0E/… ,this amazon.it/Belkin-Hub-USB-porte-alimentatore/dp/B0028RYQ2G/…
can you help me to choose?
"external alimentation" meaning external power supply?
The mouse bungee looks a lot different from the other...
@OliverSalzburg yes, sorry for the translation
@OliverSalzburg yes. The other didn't get particularly nice reviews. It's true that it's a rather cheap piece of hw but I figured that I could try to ask here before simply getting one
17:41
I remember picking up a cheap 4-port USB hub with an external power supply at Walmart some 7ish years ago. I still use it, actually.
@Francesco I've never had a USB hub fail on me. I always purchased very cheap supplies in that area. But I can't recommend a specific one.
@sidran32 that was my idea: barring other suggestions, I would have picked the cheapest one ;-)
@Francesco That's how I'd do it. My only gripe with it is that the power and USB source cables plug in on opposite sides and can pull out easily if you're not careful. But that just means you have to be careful. :) It works great.
@soandos late(!) reply but no it wouldn't go away if I hit no, kept showing the same message
@Sathya got it
17:46
@sidran32 ok, the order is almost ready then :-) I am checking the last minute items...
@Francesco Good luck. :)
18:04
goodbye everybody :-)
@Sathya Well, they still have Cougar, Ocelot, Lynx,... and Bobcat.
@DanielBeck Bobcat. Okay then.
18:34
@Sathya Looking for examples of how much better the SE concept works than usual sites?
@OliverSalzburg First I hesitated to edit such thing, I should gave more details as you did :D
@DanielBeck no, more like what just another example of what you see on Stack Overflow, but gets killed right away/
18:59
Any ideas why total size of all files (including hidden & system) would be 50GB less than the reported occupied space? It's an external disk & system protection is turned off. The disk is part of a hardware RAID1 array - could it be 10% of space used for parity?
@dnbrv What's the Acronis Recovery tab?
@DanielBeck The tab is present by default everywhere but that's the backup target drive
Also, are you using Volume Shadow Copies to keep past versions of files?
@DanielBeck No. All system protection is turned off. This is 100% data backup drive.
@DanielBeck Acronis Recovery tag shows up when you install Acronis' backup software. It's just how it integrates into explorer.
19:02
@dnbrv difference due to chunk size v/s filesize?
@dnbrv Perhaps your disk data is fragmented?
@Sathya See the screenshot for the bite values.
Shouldn't that be covered by Size on disk?

something similar
believe there are other related questions
@dnbrv My other thought is that perhaps it isn't counting all your files, but only non-hidden/non-system files?

There could be files there that your user doesn't have permission to view. Things for the recycle bin and whatnot.

user1393So I have this NTFS HD drive and when I select all the files and directories in it's root (including hidden and system files) the total Size on disk is 460 GB, but when I look on the disk properties it says that the used space is 464 GB. Q: What is the difference between "used space", "size" and "size on disk"?

TimThere is only one partition for both system files and personal data, which is C:. The other two partitions are for boot and for recovery. Now I have two different reports on the size of C: on my Windows 7: by clicking the property of C:, it shows 59.4 GB for "used space"; by selecting all cont...

@dnbrv Depends on how it's fragmented, I guess. But ya, it could. If the data is fragmented in such a way that while there are sections of free space, the amount of contiguous free space that would actually allow storing data, even piecemeal, is less.
19:07
@Sathya That I know. My only suspect is MFT. Downloading WinHex
Rob
Rob
if it wasn't win7 I'd get to tell you about how ext4 sets aside a percentage of space for root only so you can't completely fill your harddrive with garbage and end up accidentally making it unusable
That's my understanding, though. I have an amateur understanding of file systems. :)
Rob
Rob
and that you can change it with tune2fs -m {percentage to reserve}
@sidran32 I remember it being the case in FAT. NTFS has tiny cluster size so I've never seen such drastic differences.
I'm off, see ya guys
19:08
See ya, @Sathya
@dnbrv I've not really tracked that kind of issue very much so I can't tell you. But I think it could happen.
WinHex says MFT is 100MB and LogFile is 100MB
Ah. Bingo! There's a 55GB file inside System Volume Information. WTF is it if System Restore is off?
Sigh I so hoped I just misunderstood the question...

Q: How do I organize my project files in Visual Studio in a Setup Project?

KronoSI have a set of schemas that I use in a C# program. Right clicking doesn't produce the typical "Add" -> ...

Anybody know?
wouldn't this be better answerd on SO?
@Diogo its on topic here
@KronoS give me a moment
@Diogo no... it's about the program itself and not actually programming
C# is mentioned, but the solution is (I assume) program specific and not language specific
sure
@Sathya - you saw Outlook.com about 45 mins before me looking at the Star... manage to get any good names? I registered [email protected] and got a few other good ones! :)
20:56
@KronoS I don't have a solution. But I only tried the VS Installer project for a C# solution once and we decided very quickly to move to another installer solution.
Did I already solution?
Long story short, those installers suck :P
@OliverSalzburg agreed. but we're not doing much with the installer.
so there's not need to go into a third-party one for now
@KronoS Well, let me give it a try. Can't hurt
