(while restarting Astaroth for an update)
...that's a .NET exception. This might be related to the fact that the system was being restarted for a .NET Framework cumulative update...
Could just be derpy Logitech software.
Yeah. Logitech Options is rather... buggy.
I've had SetPoint (the predecessor to LogiOptions) cause bluescreens.
A new generation of Intel HEDT processors, now with massive price cuts.
All of the parts are based on Cascade Lake-SP HCC silicon. Intel has decided to simplify the product stack, skipping the 16-core part. The 18-core Core i9-10980XE Extreme Edition will cost about $1,000 at retail.
This was a much-needed move after AMD massively undercut them in the previous generation.
I'm hoping this will spur more interest in Intel's HEDT platform...
I wonder what their profit margins are... (note that Intel's manufacturing costs for 14nm silicon should be much lower now than 1-2 years ago because the 14nm process is now very, very mature)
Thoughts?

sigh
i'm back to paper and pen to work out wtf this code should be doing
08:03
@bwDraco Too late.
As in, many people already have all the cores they need now, often from AMD
2 -> 4 core was huge.
4 -. 6 less
And personally after going 8/16 on a laptop no new CPU is needed for a while

@Hennes What system?
I'm assuming you're working with a 65W Ryzen chip...
Performance per watt has always been a strength of the Zen architecture...
11:26
Something overlooked by some is the presence of enterprise-oriented features like AVX-512 (two FMAs per core) and Intel DL Boost (introduced in Cascade Lake-SP and inherited by these processors).
Plus 2.5GbE and Wi-Fi 6 ready, with appropriate network controllers.
11:53
well, my next PC will be probably a threadripper :D
but the ETA for that is about mid-2020
and, yes, it's "probably" because there is a chance that from now till then something goes horribly wrong at AMD hq and they start sucking again
12:49
argugle barlgle fargle.

14:55

I have this but it's derp
I don't think I've worked with python's CSV lib
Think I... rolled my own?
What's the issue, anyway?
15:18
i just have a load of lines ina file, doesn't need to be csv exaclty
in the file, 4 columns
Name,Members,IP,Subnet
Name is always set, if members is set, then IP isn't....
for any given 'group' (Name value) find all the members, and from the members get the Ip addresses
oh god
I changed something
i've ran it
and it's still running.

18:03

Q: Firing mods and forced relicensing: is Stack Exchange still interested in cooperating with the community?

amon The last weeks and days have seen some erratic behaviour by Stack Exchange Inc., such as likely illegal changes to the content license and the firing of an upstanding community moderator with no explanation except copy-pasted responses (leaving many to believe it was for no good reason). It wou...

HOLY SMOKES SO MUCH DRAMA
Justified drama, but still...

Uhm. Wait
I am sure you knew
No, I didn't know any of the recent developments

Nothing beyond that
Visiting SE after a few days today
Ah ok
For the benefit of those who don't know...
So - if I get your pronoun wrong, feel free to correct me. I'll try to do better. I do expect folks to follow the same.
I'd be disappointed in them otherwise
19:36
t's sad that you feel you need to even say that
19:49
But here we are
Someone has to set an example 😁

2 hours later…

a guy i know works at the BBC
he has asked me to share this with you folks

So... my Logitech MX Master 3 just came in. The MagSpeed wheel feels... weird.
It's not a mechanical click. It's electromagnetically controlled so the detents feel much softer.
23:54
The middle mouse click is much more solid on the MX Master 3 than it is on the 2S.
The amount of "friction" in the wheel in ratchet mode is much lower; the wheel will spin much further when flicked without disengaging the electromagnetic ratchet. This will definitely take some getting used to.
