I really wish HP laptops had a battery limiter feature in software...

(because Lenovo systems do have a feature which lets you cap the battery at 60%)

If you do frequently plug it in and unplug it because you're traveling, etc., it's a bit easier to keep it within that optimal 20% to 80% range.

Why do I write about personal finances? Because I get in trouble over personal purchasing decisions that really should be entirely internal.

My parents are scared about my growing up. As much as I want and need to be an independent adult, I can't shake the feeling that in doing so, I am abandoning my parents. I don't want to be held responsible for my parents suffering a mental breakdown because something happened to me, even if I took care of it successfully.

It got both better and worse over time, but me running out of money turned from "ave spends money on useless stuff" to "ave spends money on things that she enjoys".

I got a raise and something like a bonus last thursday and got a bunch of credit improvements over the last month

I'm trying to get on my own feet. I have a full-time job and deposited my first paycheck yesterday. The problem is how I could help my parents let go and feel less fearful about my growing up.

And I've thought about just burning bridges altogether and forcing my parents to face their most primal fears head-on - but that could get me in jail and I'm not interested in being evil.

And I had times where I had to ask my family for funds in emergency situations

I still use my family's private insurance, and members of my family that aren't employed use my public insurance.

I don't like my family, especially certain sides of it, but you don't have to burn bridges.

You can put a distance like me and my girlfriend did (we moved out together), but you don't have to burn bridges, and unless there's a very good reason, I'd advise against it.

I mean, I just feel so upset about this that I want to say, "I'm going to spend myself out of money and will live on the streets and let the pigeons feed on whatever is left of me", and decline all assistance from my parents so they can only scream at the heavens.

But I don't want to be evil. I seriously don't.

And honestly something I've realized since I moved here 363 days ago... world is cruel and a lot of people will be nice to your face but then use you. There's obviously people who aren't like that, you should try and get close to them. Your family is usually the simplest one, and will be one of the most flexible ones in most cases in terms of how far they're willing to go with helping you.

In the end, I just want to do what I know is right. Abandoning my parents and forcing them to face their fears isn't right. That's why I'm trying to get to the bottom of this so I can move out at some point down the road without feeling guilty about it.

I'm pinging a specific IP on an unused port in the 4xxx range. Both computers are on, but there is no software. Per my understanding, pinging "just works" as long as the server allows port forwarding on that port. Pinging currently fails. Do I need to open my router on that port as well? Idk if routers allow outbound data on ports by default or what. Some people talk about having different ports for inbound and outbound data.
