ugh, its embarassing to read through old answers and find bad spelling errors

1 hour later…
01:46
anyone here have experience with the upgrader for windows 8 (from windows 7)?

2 hours later…
04:11
@TomWijsman have you any experience with AHK?
04:27
@avirk, that is more @iglvzx
@iglvzx I need your help for AHK.
@soandos Good mornig
can you help me for AHK
@avirk, its midnight here, and I can try, but its not an expertise of mine :/
@soandos AH! its 10 am here
@avirk, where are you?
`SetTitleMatchmode, RegEx

Chrome := "-Google Chrome$"

while (ture)
{
IfWinActive, % Chrome
{
IfWinActive, %TabName%

ShiftAltTab:: LeftClick

return false

}`
@soandos India
04:30
gotcha
what are you trying to do?
I'm trying to open the link in same tab using AHK in chrome but I'mm getting error at line 11
Its my 1st AHK script
good morning @slhck
syntax?

Q: Windows 7 - Open the Volume Control popup from the command prompt

iglvzxI would like to open the Volume Control popup directly without using the mouse or keyboard. Currently, I am using AutoHotkey to press Win+B to focus on the system tray, Left to highlight the Volume Control icon , and then Enter to bring up the popup. I assume that this is possible, consideri...

A good Q from @iglvzx
@soandos not much experienced with it so just started with some refrences
Bob
Bob
@slhck Do you still need one?
@avirk, just use Click
04:36
@soandos still getting error
what is the rror?
Bob
Bob
@avirk You should have the hotkey (ShiftAltTab::) at the top, above the start of the while loop
It's spelt true, not ture
You're missing a closing brace
@Bob, good catches
Bob
Bob
And you should use something like Send {Click}
@Bob ah used it before the while loop but getting new error that this key comination is not exist, and also same error at the line 11 invalid hotkey
@Bob where i should to suppose to put it
Bob
Bob
04:42
@avirk Ah, Alt + Tab is special
You may not be able to use it how you want in this... :\
@Bob ShiftAlt can be?
Bob
Bob
@avirk I'm not sure
Perhaps use +!Tab
But that would completely override the normal Windows Shift + Alt + Tab functionality
@Bob `SetTitleMatchmode, RegEx

Chrome := "-Google Chrome$"

while (true)
{
IfWinActive, % Chrome
{
#IfWinActive, ahk_class Chrome

!+:: send {Click}

return false
}
} `
Bob
Bob
@avirk The hotkey goes FIRST
It activates on the hotkey. You cannot put the hotkey activation within... wait, why are you using an infinite loop?!
...
@Bob you mean before the ahk_class
I'm using this only to activate until the chrome open then the script should not work (I think?)
Bob
Bob
04:51
SetTitleMatchmode, RegEx

Chrome := "-Google Chrome$"

!Alt::
    while (true)
    {
        IfWinActive, % Chrome
        {
            IfWinActive ahk_class Chrome
                Send {Click}
        }
    }
Return
That may work a little better
Wait, np
don't use that
SetTitleMatchmode, RegEx

Chrome := "-Google Chrome$"

!Alt::
    IfWinActive, % Chrome
    {
        IfWinActive ahk_class Chrome
           Send {Click}
    }
Return
I'm not sure why you're checking the title and class, though
When you press Shift + Alt, it will run what's inside that block.
If you want an endless loop, well, you would have to check key state every iteration rather than use an actual hotkey. When AHK already provides hotkeys, you do not need to implement your own.

Bob
Bob
?
Hot key not let me type in english on chrome now however I closed the script @Bob. I typed it in N++ and its orking fine for me.
Ah restart solve the problem.
! is not used for Alt and + for the Shift?
@Bob
Bob
Bob
@avirk Oh, whoops :P
Use +Alt then. Or !Shift, whichever key you want to press first goes first
05:07
@Bob no it doesn't working just same behavior as Shift+ click to open new windows
Bob
Bob
@avirk What exactly do you want to do?
Did you want to give a click special behaviour if shift + alt are pressed? Because that's different.
I want to open the link in same tab no new windows no new tab
as Just click on the All rooms link and it will open in new tab automatically so I want to open it through AHK in same tab
Bob
Bob
Ah..
I'm not sure that's possible...
Especially not with AHK
AHK can only do things you could do anyway, even if they require more clicks, etc
What you want to do would require changing the actual page in some way
@Bob It will be just I think we are missing a lot of things script will be longer than I think
Bob
Bob
Most sites use a target="_blank" in the HTML link to open in a new window
That would have to be removed
SE chat rooms use some JavaScript or something, I think, because the links do not have that attribute
05:12
@Bob yeaah just the url have to change through ahk
Bob
Bob
@avirk No. Unless Chrome provides a shortcut to force a link to open in the same window, you cannot do that in AHK.
Then i think we really need @iglvzx
Bob
Bob
AHK can not change a web page's HTML source, either
It's used for automation, it can't do everything under the sun...

Q: Is there a keyboard shortcut to close windows from the Windows 7 taskbar window selector?

Richard SzalayIf, for example, Windows Explorer is in the first position of the taskbar and there are multiple explorer windows open, holding the Windows Key and pressing 1 will cycle through the available windows and display an x on the top-right of the selected item that can be clicked to close the window. ...

Bob
Bob
@avirk That's different, because it relies on visible components that can be manipulated using keypresses/mouse clicks anyway. AHK is just automating that very nicely.
The page source is normally hidden and can only be modified with special extensions/user scripts.
Bob
Bob
@avirk That's to open a set URL
To open an actual clickable link, you're going to have to grab the URL somehow
:(
Hello
I'm out of idea now I just want to do it
Bob
Bob
I'm not sure if it's possible to get a link URL with AHK, but I don't want to try it :)
It would be complicated at best
05:17
However not a knowledge of python otherwise I'll try to crate an extension for this
Bob
Bob
@avirk What's Python got to do with Chrome extensions? o.O
(I have no knowledge of how Chrome extensions work or what language they're written in)
@Bob I've read somwhere that python is used for program them isn't it?
Bob
Bob
@avirk Python is not the native way

Q: Chrome extension in python?

JeffI would like to create a google chrome extension. Specifically, I'd like to make a packaged app, but not a hosted app. Am I correct in thinking this limits me to JavaScript (and HTML/CSS)? My problem is that I need to do some complex math (singular value decomposition, factor analysis) and I don...

@Bob Aha thats good I just nees JS and HTML
@Chacha102 hello
Bob
Bob
And a user script would be easiest, but first you'll have to figure out how sites like SE chat force links to open in a new window
05:20
@Chacha102 what kind of name that is do you its mean in India?
Bob
Bob
I'm thinking it has something to do with the <base target="_blank"> in the HTML <head>.
And I just confirmed that.
@Bob its gonnna much complicated way for me now :(
Bob
Bob
So you could write a user script that goes through the HTML source and strips <base target="_blank"> from it
And strips target=_"blank" from links
@Bob Oh my dear bro don't bother me with these complicated ways I'm completely off form them have to search a lot on that for work :(
But I'll do it
ugh
school website won't let me upload my assignment
its due in3 hours
it was also down yesterday
05:26
@avirk What about my name?
@Chacha102 its mean Uncle in india dude
just leave the 102
@avirk Ah. Yeah, I plan to
@JourneymanGeek that's bad
@Chacha102 what you have planned to?
@avirk No, I planned on keeping the 102 with it
@Bob can you give me an assignment for win app with some hints for my practice?
05:29
and. works perfectly from the office
@Chacha102 you mean you know the mean of your user name?
cusses in fluent clanner, and goes home ;p
@JourneymanGeek Hmmmmm try to access it from the other connection?
Bob
Bob
@avirk Hm? You mean you want me to tell you to make something?
@Bob yeah
Bob
Bob
05:30
@JourneymanGeek Your ISP acting up again? :P
@Bob I think the same

@Bob grab the 50 if you have an answer
Bob
Bob
@avirk That's actually kinda off-topic for SO
You're not asking about programming, rather you're asking for a program...
@Bob no it will not I have seen many Q's like that there.
Bob
Bob
@avirk Something simple?
@avirk I didn't upvote that answer. Really
05:34
@Bob yes for start it would be better
Bob
Bob
@avirk Make a clock :P
Something that just shows the current time
@jokerdino ah well its your wish! BTW morning
good day
@Bob Ok.
Bob
Bob
That's one I did a while back, when I was first learning
05:35
How you upload it on mediafire?
Bob
Bob
@avirk I dunno.. anyway, my answer would have been with a program, which is a very SU thing :P
Let osmeone else answer
@avirk I just check random programs on MediaFire
You can have the source too if you want
It's really a single line
Hints.. hmm
Use a Timer, and update on the Timer's Tick
@Bob yeah
Bob
Bob
Set a Label's Text to the current time
DateTime.Now contains the current time
And it has methods to convert to a string
@Bob you can give me it ;P
Bob
Bob
this is C#/.NET, of course
05:38
@Bob hmm let me try. and I think you are using label to show the time?
Bob
Bob
@avirk Yes, a Label that updates on the Tick

A: Not able to delete or save photos in Picasa for OS X

avirkI found out through Googling that this problem is due to read only properties of the files. So you have to check that your images are not set to read only. Also it's worth to try uninstalling and re-installing Picasa. From this source Where are the photos located when you try to edit them...

Hey guys if user didn't accept the answer then community decide to give the bounty to the answer and if they don't get any good answer then why they don't give back that rep to the OP?
@Bob @jokerdino any idea?
If not I'm gonna to ask it on METASO
wait what?
if the user didn't choose any answer, the answer with 2 votes will get half the bounty
@bob: oh, yell. it is.
or my school. Who have been having intermittant outages all day
Bob
Bob
lol
@jokerdino and higher voted answer will get the whole bounty :D
read the faq thanks.
Whole bounty is only if selected
@JourneymanGeek then 25 is mine all the way in this situation m right?

I had best answer with Deskpin but bountyhunter got 2 upvotes and beats me :(
hm?
Thats odd
that answer is crying for a downvote
06:03
@JourneymanGeek what is odd?
I see two awarded bounties for harrymc
@jokerdino again not.
and its hard to tell if he got the full bounty without knowing who awarded it
@JourneymanGeek yes he answered on it before for XP and now for 7
@JourneymanGeek he got half the bounty i presume.
"50 awarded by community"
06:04
ahh, then yes
supposes thats one advantage of that tactic
At least community should have a sense to check out the solution
I think deskpin is the best option in this case on 7
downvotes for excessive haggling
sigh
Community is automatic stuff
so no
it shouldn't
notes this is why i usually don't primarily bountyhunt
@JourneymanGeek robots :(
06:07
@JourneymanGeek me too but if I can give a solution then why should not
copy the source of the web page
This is why i insist on sticking to things i know, or understand ;p
who can trace down where he snagged the source from?
@jokerdino AH that is too long
06:08
because editing the post is a bit of a head ache
@JourneymanGeek beat me just my slow connection :(
which part did you dump into google?
and knowing how much or how little to google.
8) Installing Oracle 11gR2 Express Edition
naturally
can edit that post for me please? :D
Bob
Bob
06:12
@avirk Any luck with that clock? :P
@jokerdino I'll be in peer review there so not good for me :D
@jokerdino: naw, i rather bitch at the guy for not attributing ;p
@JourneymanGeek that guy sucks.
@Bob I've not implemented that yet but at eve i'll
;P

Q: Linking to downloadable files

Adam543iI answered a question earlier about group policy and I stated that they could use Windows SteadyState to achieve this. However this morning I found the installer on my computer and uploaded it to Mediafire, but I had second thoughts about posting links to applications. So my question is, is it a...

Bob
Bob
@avirk Nope, it's free
@avirk Premium for some additional things, like direct links
@Bob ah thanks!
Bob
Bob
I don't use it for anything that needs to stay up for an extended period of time, though
Only for temporary examples and programs others can compile from source
@Bob Ok time to go now thanks for your help buddy.

@avirk Bye

1 hour later…
07:23
@Bob I already found a script, thanks :)

When I finally install windows 8, the site that is required for me to be able to use windows updates is down (beta.update.microsoft.com). This is great.

lol @JourneymanGeek
I'm not sure if its on topic. The utility of these parts is very dependant on your soldering skills and situation. — Journeyman Geek 29 mins ago
Soldering skills? XD
@JourneymanGeek Huh?
11:16
Soldering skills ;p
I've never been top monthly user so far. its one of those things i'd like to do
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek Nice!
psst @slhck, @OliverSalzburg, get more rep!
Bob
Bob
I have no idea if pinging works in code blocks :P
Hi @JourneymanGeek
ALSO suspects he had his best week ever
lol, seems that it does
Bob
Bob
You can get uni — Journeyman Geek 1 min ago
Uni? Did something get cut off @JourneymanGeek?
11:22
yes
editing now!
Bob
Bob
lol
the powershell is part of Win native is it?
god you guys are fast ;p
Sort of
I think you need to install it
11:26
oh hmm
Bob
Bob
Hm
Huh?
Oh, PowerShell comes with Vista and 7 normally
Bob
Bob
It must be installed on XP separately
so it does ;p
Bob
Bob
I think it's an optional component which you can disable in a custom installer, but that's the user's choice
11:27
hmm
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek Does uniq expect a sorted list like Get-Unique does?
uniq has to be sorted
which is a pain in the ass.
or you can use sort -u
11:27
I used it a lot for my last school assignment ;p
which sorts and removes duplicate lines
Bob
Bob
@jokerdino Or Get-Sort -Unique :P
Bob
Bob
PowerShell really does consider a lot :P
sorted in excel, dumped to text, and ran uniq to get the dupes///
what?
wait
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO‌OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
that would have saved me a lot of time
11:29
@avirk A bit, but I guess you have resolved it by now?
Bob
Bob
Actually, sort -u works in PowerShell too o.O
Pity it doesn't accept a filename as input (only an object), not does uniq seem to be aliased (they went with unique).
@JourneymanGeek ?
@TomWijsman Not resolved yet :P
From what I gathered of his goal, it's not really possible. Perhaps you can create a userscript that does it? Should be easy enough..
@Bob: I was making MASSIVE use of uniq for my assignment
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek You didn't know about the sort option? o.O
@JourneymanGeek wait what?
you were using excel just to sort? ROFL
yes. anyway they were excel spreadsheets
so it wasn't a big deal
11:33
I'm more of a AutoIt guy, but one thing I notice in @Bob 's version: Since when is SHIFT+ALT a shortcut key?
hmm we all learn things
Still, I don't see what he's trying to do...
Bob
Bob
@TomWijsman ?
It wouldn't have worked anyway
What's the goal?
Because when I read
> I'm trying to open the link in same tab using AHK in chrome but I'mm getting error at line 11
Bob
Bob
11:38
@TomWijsman He wants to do it when clicking a link
Basically, override the target="_blank"
That's what I gathered anyway
Just drag the link to the address bar.
Bob
Bob
@TomWijsman Tell him :P
Not sure how to automate that in AHK though
@avirk: Just drag the link to the address bar. :D
Or you could do an userscript that does $('a').attr('target','');
Or its JS equivalent if you don't want to go and attempt to get jQuery loaded.
Bob
Bob
@TomWijsman In this case, the same has to be done for base
The SE chat rooms actually use <base target="_blank"> :P
I didn't even know that tag existed until today
Bob
Bob
11:43
@TomWijsman I was fiddling with the JS equivalent. It was painful... mostly because I have no idea how to change attributes with JS, I could get the correct tag object :P
@Bob I'm already happy with my +1297 ranks change in the year section :D
Bob
Bob
lol
I'm in the not previously ranked section D:
Damn.... :D
I think my first year i was number 99 sitewide
I should try putting in a few summary answers on bounty questions. That seems to be the new hot thing :P
11:48
lol
I really don't understand why that annoys me so much...
But it does :P
@OliverSalzburg: Its gaming the system
gets vaguely annoyed by that. Just means i need to up my game ;p
@JourneymanGeek Good thinking!
@OliverSalzburg: Which.. mostly means sticking to stuff i know ;p
12:16
Wow
All our questions were
That says a lot about what other SE sites think SU is for ;D
Just kidding, of course ;)
This baffles the mind :D
OMG! LOOK! You can change your background image!!
I bet the guy who came up with that feature earned himself a pad on the back that day.
12:40
@JourneymanGeek I'm gonna grab that for my auto-comment inserter, if you don't mind?
:D
12:58
@Bob Heh. I don't care :P
