So basically, they are now "Carmen Sandiego: The OS"
03:44
@Mathematics re why is ffmpeg so difficult, ffmpeg must have been written by difficult people!
@bwDraco Is there a term for the screen that comes up when you hit F2/escape/etc prior to loading of any bootloader from boot disk? Is BIOS and UEFI basically the same at that stage?
And also, that screen aside, I can accept that BIOS and UEFI are very different, but since the term BIOS is so common and BIOS is outdated, it seems surprising to me that they didn't call UEFI "BIOS 2" i.e. reuse the term BIOS.
It's not really Basic any more though.
@barlop Firmware setup utility.
I still remember the days when it was called "CMOS setup utility", when the coin cell on the motherboard maintained the CMOS memory used by the BIOS...
(today, said coin cell is generally only used for the real-time clock)
04:15
Hah, no wonder people struggle so much with BIOS <cough> UEFI passwords these days!
I've had a short an eeeprom to wipe a BIOS password before. It's a pain in the backside.

Q: How is the BIOS used by a modern OS?

compieWhat's the function of the BIOS in a modern OS? Is it still used after booting? And is there some kind of BIOS API?

But how modern is 2010? I notice no answers mention UEFI, like, where the BIOS ends and the UEFI begins, considering that according to that accepted answer, the BIOS is still used

postcodes for the IOM return null in their longitude and latitude...
they all live in the sea.
Postcodes were introduced in the Isle of Man in 1993, with the island becoming the IM postcode area. Each town or area is associated with one or more postal districts, assigned by Isle of Man Post Office. Outside the larger towns, the postal districts are further broken down and each postal sector is assigned to a number of villages and settlements. == Coverage == The approximate coverage of the postal districts (and sectors, where relevant): == See also == Postcode Address File List of postcode areas in the United Kingdom == References == == External links == Royal Mail's Postcode ...
Looks like they litterally refer to the nearest town/city.
or are you testing the PO Box ones, which may not even have a location?
no
geocode.xyz - this site somehow has the co-ords
and google maps manages to put them in the right location

if you enter the postcode without a space, google freaks out
now that mystrey is solved i have to go back to writing this dull requirements document

you have a space tho...
09:49
yeah don't worry about it

So I'm staying with this family today
At the border before going back to India

@Burgi yeah, talked about that
Later this year perhaps

Hello everyone
Is superuser a place to ask about specific brand software and hardware?
In my case, the interaction between two Redragon keyboards
hm. What do you mean?
It does seem possible but more information would be nice'
I have a Redragon Kala (Which is like the Kama but with Brazil standards) and it comes with software which you can configure the keys.
I was considering getting a Redragon Diti that I suppose will also come with software for specific configuration
But since both have the letter Q, I wonder if messing with Diti key will also mess with Kala key
Can't promise an answer, but yeah, would be on topic
13:20
Ok then, will post
Can I link the Redragon website or is that bad manners?
Also depends on the software - the stuff my razers come with will let you configure things 'per' device
I have two redragon things too. But it is a mouse and a keyboard
You absolutely should include any useful information - and in this case linking to the redragon website would be very useful
I dont know about having two of the same
Ok, thanks!
The only 'issue' I see is the only people who can answer would 'need' to have the same brand of hardware
but that's endemic to anything that isn't a standard/built in thinggamagig
13:23
I know about luamacros and autohotkeys, where you can program that each device works in a way
But if I am to get a new one, its better that it works easily, right?

people use teams????
Bob
Bob
@Burgi are you talking ms teams or so teams? :P
SO teams initially
but i did magically gain MS teams in the last O365 update
Bob
Bob
ms teams is decent
much better than lync
make sure you're set to islands, not skype only
does it work on macs?
16:12
@Burgi apparently yes

1 hour later…
17:21
@Moacir It's always okay to link to a product manufacturer's website as a reference. It's only a problem if you're spamming.
18:13
Jerry Seinfeld voice So what's the deal with using a Microsoft account to sign into Windows?
Does it do anything functionality-wise?
@bertieb Yea, it lets them track you
The error about "Invalid characters in path" torture me, please help..@BenN
$string="https://pek3a.qingstor.com/ecourse/marking/00609226-733e-4843-a91c-2636d0785b7f/000001.jpg

$files=[regex]::Split($string,"\n")
Sorry the private url cannot post public post..
Where is it saying the error is?
18:29
The red character mean there is some invalid character here:
Invoke-WebRequest $file -OutFile ((pwd).Path +  "\" + ([regex ...
It is a confusion error. It cost my one hour to find almost...
OK, so comment out the Invoke-WebRequest, and replace with Out-Host $file. What appears then?
It will prompt Out-Host cannot accept a url parameter
19:01
@bertieb stops you having no password. Backs up the windows 'cd key' to your ms account.... hmmmm not sure what else
oh spams you with hotmail notifications xD
OK, but you're splitting it as a string... Why would it care if it's a url type or not? How about $file.ToString instead?
@CanadianLuke Same error. :)
GoT time
19:19
Actually,this command can run normally:
Invoke-WebRequest "https://pek3a.qingstor.com/ecourse/marking/00609226-733e-4843-a91c-2636d0785b7f/000001.jpg" -OutFile ((pwd).Path + "\" + ([regex]::Match("https://pek3a.qingstor.com/ecourse/marking/00609226-733e-4843-a91c-2636d0785b7f/000001.jpg","(?<=/)[^/]+$").value))
But this cannot:
Invoke-WebRequest "https://pek3a.qingstor.com/ecourse/marking/00609226-733e-4843-a91c-2636d0785b7f/000001.jpg" -OutFile ((pwd).Path + "\" + ([regex]::Match($files[0],"(?<=/)[^/]+$").value))
Actually this two command is same excatly....
OK, so testing it out, the first thing to do is remove that last blank line in the $string variable
Oh, I know what you mean
Invoke-WebRequest $files[0].Trim() -OutFile ((pwd).Path +  "\" + ([regex]::Match($files[0].Trim(),"(?<=/)[^/]+$").value))
OK, use Join-Path in there
This command work finally...
Crazy brank..
Join-Path -Path (pwd).Path -ChildPath ([regex]::Match($file,"(?<=/)[^/]+$").value)
19:28
Can we show the string with "" in powershell?
Just type the variable on its own line:

$files
But I cannot see anything difference:
Join-Path creates the string that is ready to be used as a path, without worrying about RegEx
OK, I got it, and refactored your code
You have Windows new-line endings - \r\n. You're only splitting on \n, so the \r is still part of the web request
$string="https://pek3a.qingstor.com/ecourse/marking/00609226-733e-4843-a91c-2636d0785b7f/000001.jpg

$files = $string.Split([string[]]"`r`n", [StringSplitOptions]::None)
Also, since the only use of that if was to see if the folder existed, I just made that its own check, then run the download
19:45
@CanadianLuke Subscribes me to their newsletter, you say...
@djsmiley2k That second one seems... semi-useful?
@bertieb That's a side effect, not the cause :P
The other benefit is that you can keep your settings synced with you, no matter where you log in (if allowed)
What kind of settings? Theme-related?
Themes, layouts, Edge preferences....
Mostly, for Apps
Edge, what's that??
;-P
If they could save settings for regular programs as well, that would be spectacular
It's the edge of what we accept from Microsoft
19:47
Touché :D
I use it on my Surface Pro from Work... It keeps my background, settings, and my Apps in sync. I don't use the Mail or Calendar or People apps, though
My org doesn't fully embrace things in the cloud though, so I can't test too much at a time
@CanadianLuke It will prompt that $dir is a empty string there?
It shouldn't... It should be seeing that if $dir does not exist as a path, then create it. Then, download the files
My god..
it's full of stars.
19:56
That's not what I posted
What I posted, works
That mean $dir is a empty string. Actually the powershell have creat the directory
SE elipse'd some lines. I copied it into a Pastebin for you
It work well this time..
Thanks..
20:31
You're welcome

Howdy folks. I'm trying to make WinPE media using adk and CopyDandI succeeds but MakeWinPEMedia returns "working directory is not valid". I tried two different folders (two different CopyDandI runs) but it still doesn't work. Any hints?
Holy toledo you resurrected clippy. You are l33t necromancers.
