@bertieb syncs a bunch of stuff, including wallpaper

@JourneymanGeek Ah okay, fair enough

6:25 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah thanks for that warning that you claim you always give. Nice loophole there.

Lmao such a shitty thread
Uber stock was decimated this morning. Down 11%. Now valuing the company at about half of what bankers thought they could get out of the market just a few months ago. Good luck to all those employees who swallowed their ethics to work for Uber on the promise of 🎉 IPO 👍
Yeah. Blame the employees!
> Also worth remembering that orgs are not fictional lord of the rings characters. They are entirely made of their employees. Every bad decision has been made by these employees only, noone else.
...
Yep. Easy to always put the blame on the bad overlords. The day employees choose to work for good companies, bad ones will die overnight. No more Monsanto, Bayer, etc. or at least they will dump their wrong product lines.

looking at amazon.co.uk/Philips-SHE3705BK-Ear-Earphones-Microphone-black/… some earphones with a 3.5mm jack, advertised as including mic. How is that possible? don't computers have like line in, speaker, line out, mic. How can you get in and out with that plug?

I know I said I'll never work for evil/unethical orgs, but I in no way expect that of most devs.
You work where you can.

11:46 AM
do you have a phone?

@barlop trrs
And lots of laptops do that too. And you can split trrs to 2x trs
@rahuldottech yup
I'd work for the mob if the job was legit and the paychecks on time

12:13 PM
@tereško yes.
Are you going to give me the argument about how Google, Apple, etc. do bad stuff and I shouldn't use their stuff?

12:45 PM
@rahuldottech HHHHHHHHHAhahaha no. :<
no to that guy, not you perticularly this time.

2 hours later…
2:47 PM
you take a job where you can

3:10 PM

@Burgi Indeed, and you make things better, where you can.

3:45 PM

is flash installed?

1 hour later…

If USB ports aren't blue, does that mean they are definitely USB1/2, not 3?

... and the red ones go faster

What about the ones with a racing stripe??

stronger

Which ones are harder?

I seem to have picked up way too much warhammer lore
@barlop the color of the damned ports have nothing to do with the spec, which they implement

2 hours later…

Q: Promotion comes with unexpected 24/7/365 on-call

trangunarpixI work in IT and was recently promoted to a higher position. While I was okay with the responsibilities outlined when I accepted the promotion last week, today I learned it comes with 24/7/365 on-call to monitor mission critical systems. The first time I fail to fix it within 20 minutes, I will b...

if serious, america sucks

8:31 PM
That workplace sucks.
@barlop TRRS. Many computers will have a single 3.5mm lineout/in jack rather than one for each.

9:05 PM
Hi! How long does Geekbench CPU benchmarks typically take to run? I'm about to buy a laptop second hand and I would like to run Geekbench before doing so

Ave
9:41 PM
I'm dealing with more switch ubuntu stuffs
moved to a muuuuch faster and bigger drive, and am now actively "overclocking" (switch by default is underclocked, I'm just bringing it to stock clocks)
now everything is running fairly smoothly

10:42 PM
@tereško is there a quick way of finding out which a port is USB3 or USB2?

11:03 PM
@barlop Ideally, they should be labelled.

11:26 PM
ah, thanks

Each manufacturer probably has their own way of showing that though.
Then you have things like "Anytime Charge" from Fujitsu, which if turned on allows you to charge a USB device even when the laptop is off...

11:56 PM
Lenovo used to have yellow ports for that that sucked
@barlop colour
Black for USB 2, blue for usb 3.0 and red iirc for USB 3.1
