@bertieb I mentioned that was on a pretty powerful phone. Just tried it on my old, janky Galaxy S4 (granted a powerful phone in its day, but laggy as hell storage and memory by today's standards) and even from screen off with the app manually closed beforehand its less than 5 seconds. youtu.be/pHfQuefyXTs

Star this if you pronounce it as LEE-nux

I need to know

I just say "Lih-nux" so neither
2

Star both if you pronounce it neither. Or NIE-ther

@rahuldottech neither

@HornOKPlease I PRONOUNCE IT RIGHT
HOOOORAYYYY

heh
that wierd feeling when you run into someone from your other old internet social circle.

Didn't know you were supposed to have one of those

you get a lot of spammers in your social circle?

argh why is my life such a goddamned mess
bloody hell

3:34 PM
@HornOKPlease IIRC this audio is actually part of the Linux kernel codebase...

4:16 PM
The wife stopped working consistently on my office side of the house
I either need to move the router(unlikely) or move my office
or run a cat5
But the cat5 won't be easy by any means

wait.... what?

I have messed with repeaters before and hated them
@Burgi who is that directed at

you

okay what are you confused about
the wifi deosn't reach the length of our house

why has your wife stopped working?
OH
wifi

4:19 PM
sorry I typed that on my phone
it autcorrected this is me on my laptop

> the wife has died again
heh
i was wondering how you wanted us to get your wife to do more work in your side of the house

yeah I see why that was confusing
anyways any idea how to get the wifi working easily
it is wired for cable
so I thought about running ethernet over the coax cable

you can get those ethernet repeaters that use the electrical wiring of your house

that is only if the electrical wiring is on the same circuit though
right?

not sure?
it sounds like it works across circuits just not across phases

4:26 PM
if they aren't physically connected
how would it work across circuits though

they are connected at the electrical meter
pixies? shrug

I guess I should just try them to know for sure
Its probably worth a try
Linus seems to imply it is based on circuit
but I'll have to try it fore sure

4:57 PM
welllllllllllllll Linus is kinda a tool some times.

Linus at leasts gets into more then just apple products and if its shiny
but considering his videos are often scripted he is definitely a tool

Are you talking aBout different ring mains?
@William that he does

it should work via the breaker box.

my house is over the 5k recommended limit
so I'll have to see. Ideally it works via the breaker box yes

5:00 PM
stop cheaping out then if you've got such a big house xD

okay what should I do
then?

run cat6 everywhere? get a good AP?
ubiquity.

I have called someone for that
I have thought of doing it myself
the house should have that but oh well
/my house/my families house/s

if you've got a cardboard house like they build them these days, can't be that hard..

its all brick not sure what cardboard house means
there is really only 1 room that needs additional ethernet so calling in and putting in cat5 is a little overkill
mabye some places but not everywhere
because its multi story it is not feasible for me to run it everywhere
When we built our last house I personally ran cat5 at the time everywhere
but I don't need that here but it sure would be nice if we had all the walls open

6:23 PM
reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/9qrhe2/… Would any of you happen to know what causes this graphical glitch?
It doesn't show up on screenshots

@Nzall I can't make out, which part of the image is the glitch?

@rahuldottech It seems like every odd pixel column has jumped over to one side

probably a firmware defect; unless you can find a compatible firmware you're probably SOL

@Nzall I'm the GPU expert here, (ping @bwd), but update drivers, check cable?

This is what it should normally look like
@rahuldottech I mean, if I take it as a screenshot, it looks the way it should

6:39 PM
@Nzall laptop or desktop? and how is your second monitor connected?

@Nzall Which means it's not a software problem, because Windows is correctly displaying it (as far as it's concerned)

It could be the cable. The monitor is really old and doesn't share a compatible port with my GPU, so it uses an adapter
it's an old monitor anyway. It's on my list of things to replace

@Nzall 1. Driver, 2. Cable, 3. Adapter, 4. Another display
Troubleshoot in this order ^

what kind of adapter?

@rahuldottech VGA to displayport I think

6:41 PM
If it can't be replicated on another display with a different cable, then it's not your GPU

yeah, I know, but it was the only type I had a compatible port with

@Nzall Probably the other way around

@rahuldottech The other monitor is fine
@rahuldottech VGA in, displayport out

is it just a small cable or does it have a really large end on one side suggesting a board inside?

from the monitor side I mean
it's an active adapter, not passive

6:42 PM
@Nzall PC outputs display port, right?

if it's an active cable it's probably that

yeah, PC outputs display port

So it's converting Display Port to VGA

yeah, sorry, I mixed up in and out

try that one maybe, a passive adapter should work with a 1070
active DP to VGA is only necessary for really old GPUs

6:44 PM
Actually, that pretty much looks like the one I have

well, until you replace it with another cable and see if that fixes it I don't have any cheaper suggestions for how to troubleshoot

it's that one, from that store
it's no big deal, really. I was planning on upgrading that monitor anyway since it's 7 years old by now and I often have second-long blackouts on the monitor

oi oi oi oiu

7:22 PM
7 year old monitor... And an adaptor of up to 1920x1200.
Probably ok, but as someone with a an high res monitor.... screen is not higher res?

wut?
@Hennes can you rephrase that?

The bol.com one is only up to 1920 x 1200.
And I wondered if the 7 year old monitor used a higher resolution
I think my 2009 (so 8 year old one) already did 1920x1200. So it is quite possible

ohg right

"When I first read "Aristotle", I thought it was pronounced as Chipotle. Wait a second... is it Chipototle?"

7:50 PM
.......?
Maybe4 I'd pronounce chipotle wrong o_O?>

chip-o-tay?

@djsmiley2k chip-o-tle

when did tle become the sound of tay?

@djsmiley2k there's an "l" in there
Uh, chipot-lay

7:57 PM
til;
#again.

I love that show :-D

it was great at first

@CanadianLuke I JUST STARTED SEASON 3 IT IS AMAZING

when the geeky jokes were actually geeky
but it kept getting water down.

@avazula You watchin' the show?

8:00 PM
I'm just amazed they can keep coming up with new challenges... Similar to how Silicon Valley keeps running into new problems every episode

Wait what
what is the show
II thought it was big bang...

8:28 PM
@djsmiley2k The Good Place

Y U ALL SO QUIET
Ok, ignoire my comment about geeky jokes getting watere4d down then

8:49 PM
I love that song but at 0:11 it sort of hangs for some reason
It even crashed my iPhone

Guitar killed the iphone

@Bob Hey, would you happen to have any experience with telnetd?

1 hour later…
10:25 PM
@HornOKPlease Had this game for the PlayStation. It was actually a very good port IIRC.

Huh. I don't have Java installed on my laptop it seems
Must have fallen out of fashion if I've not used it in 1.5 years
Oh hey my Sony Z5C explicitly says "Connected to a Bluetooth device that supports AptX" when connecting to an AptX capable speaker

Incidentally that's the third time I've had the touchscreen digitizer on a Sony Xperia fail with the tiniest fracture on the screen, while Samsung's digitizers keep working even with the screen shattered to bits.
I can see why some manufacturers (LG? Motorola?) made a big deal about dual/redundant/resilient digitizers on their TFTs...

Bob
11:41 PM
@rahuldottech ...I tend not to use telnet

@Bob Nevermind, I figured it out
Also, not using it for what you think I'm using it for

@rahuldottech TWSS

@noitsbecky lol
