A: make a usb 3.0 type B out of two micro usb cables?

Canadian LukeNo, this will not work, for a few reasons. First off, the pin out. There are actually 9 pins on USB3, and they're located in a different formation than regular USB Micro. See the picture below: You can notice that it's not an exact copy on both sides, only on the left side. The other side has...

Is my logic sound?
#Trump's #shitholecountries comment = #EqualProtectionClause violation = 14th Amendment violation = Constitution violation = oath of office violation = #impeachment #ImpeachTrumpNow
Relevant background:
!!/wiki Equal Protection Clause

The Equal Protection Clause is part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The clause, which took effect in 1868, provides that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction "the equal protection of the laws". A primary motivation for this clause was to validate the equality provisions contained in the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which guaranteed that all people would have rights equal to those of all citizens. As a whole, the Fourteenth Amendment marked a large shift in American constitutionalism, by applying substantially more constitutional restrictions against...

> While the Equal Protection Clause itself only applies to state and local governments, the Supreme Court held in Bolling v. Sharpe (1954) that the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment nonetheless imposes various equal protection requirements on the federal government.

Hmm...
Tweet deleted.

The other thing to remember about the constitution and its amendments is that it was purposefully (citation needed to be found again) vague to allow for leniency, or interpretation, by the powers that be

7:46 PM
But this brings up an interesting question.

The Federal Government wanted the States to have lots of power over their own areas, with the Federal Government only there for "national" issues. That's one reason for the vague writing, and the fact that many national laws are not prosecuted in every state (i.e. weed)

Is this, in any way, a signal that the president has failed to uphold the Constitution and therefore violated his oath of office?

The White House Counsel has the duty to represent the President, period. Whether he's fit or not for office, he has legal representation that will fight to prove his innocence
If you want him impeached, it's going to take a lot more work, and people willing to work with you
It's not enough to interpret the laws or constitution, and assume he's an equal. The President cannot be considered an equal for a functional government to run

That makes sense.

The process to actually start an impeachment will only start if the people believing an impeachment is possible, think it's possible and the people up the chain will too
The goal of impeachment is not to punish a president, it's to ensure the country is in the best hands, while being responsible to the Senate, Congress, and therefore, the people

7:50 PM
FWIW there already is an article of impeachment asserting Trump obstructed justice by firing Comey.

If you think back to Clinton's impeachment trial, what was it about?
Revenge from an angry wife? Revenge from someone he "did not have sexual relations with..."? Or to ensure the country was in the best hands?

Coup attempt by Al Gore playing the long con?

Same with Nixon and Watergate. Was it in the best interest to potentially start an international crisis by bugging the hotel used by foreign diplomats on official missions?

Well, impeachment is a political process requiring bipartisan support. This is the most polarized Congress I've ever seen so it's going to be really hard to get the votes needed for the article of impeachment to pass.

Now you're understanding why, when it appears so many Americans want it, it won't happen anytime soon
You want an impeachment? Make it publicly known if he ever attacks Congress and the Senate as being assholes, or some other remark. Of course, ensure it's true, and during a public session, but that's going to be the best bet

Pardon the interruption, but does anyone have a shortish YT video recommendation that I can 'cast onto my telly while ironing? Need something to take my mind off the fact that I'll be ironing :P

@bertieb Mythbusters for the Impatient
@bwDraco Remember, would an impeachment be the best for the American people? How is the American Dollar doing since he's taken over?

@CanadianLuke Looks good, thanks! (might have to watch a few as I don't iron that quickly :P)

Set it to a playlist
Option two is Ironing Board Reviews ;-)
Anyways, brother in law's birthday, gonna head out. Chat later guys! Loved the political talk, we should do it again sometime

See ya!

I love this presentation. I enjoy most of Cantrill's stuff, but this one is really informative, for anyone who's serious about IT.

@CanadianLuke I could use a new ironing board, actually; maybe next time :D

@allquixotic Will add it to my watch later list

One of the reasons I still keep this ancient HP laptop running Linux is to do things that require a bare-metal Linux system. That includes secure-erasing hard drives and SSDs.
I wound up coming up with this:

Q: Cheap x86 SBC for pfSense

That Brazilian GuyCurrently, I use a mini-ITX PC to run a local pfSense instance at home. As it's on 24/7 I want to use something with a lower power consumption. I'm wondering if I could use an SBC, NUC or something similar. The main requirements are: x86 or x64 (only officially supported pfSense architectures...

how cheap is cheap?

Cheap enough for my pocket, while not being made of chinesium :P

hardwarerecs.stackexchange.com/questions/1019/… might give you some ideas. If I was building one today I'd get something like what bob had or something along these lines aliexpress.com/item/…
Its chinesium, but fairly well reguarded chinesium (ars technica uses this model)
hm, they have a 6 lan port version now, noice.

Every couple of months I look into pfsense...

11:48 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy lol @ "chinesium"

@JourneymanGeek USD 100 is a biiiiiiit pricey for me, but it might pay out in the end due to the reduced consumption.
However, adding shipment and ~70% taxes on top of price + shipment....
I might have to check local stores.

@ThatBrazilianGuy cheaper than that on x86 is pretty damned hard. @Bob's kinda the king of cheapy systems here I think ;p

By the way, I've been running this setup for around 6 months and never bothered to check my power consumption.
According to this online calculator, my power bill should have nearly doubled. And I think it didn't.

cause your PC probably isn't drawing all the power all the time

Granted, I just threw "100 W" on the power field.
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I'd ask that.
How do I measure?

11:50 PM
at the wall, with a suitable device

Without buying a dedicated consumption meter, as I'd have to order one overseas and its price would surely be greater than what I'd save from using it.
Is it possible to use a multimeter or am I being silly?

you are being silly

When I worked in Electronics retail we had a staff member try to test a power supply with a multimeter...
After that, we weren't allowed to test anything with multimeters...
ಠ_ಠ

11:54 PM
@bwDraco Hm. I can order something similar from São Paulo for USD ~ 17 + shipping.

@MichaelFrank my dad blew out the screen of my multimeter using it on the mains

lol

@JourneymanGeek YEP! It's on!

now the sad thing is my dad is a ME who worked around cranes for 40 years
he should have a proper respect for moderately high voltage
