The real headline here is the 6C/12T i7 and 6C/6T i5 processors. Pricing is expected to be pretty much the same or only slightly higher compared to the previous generation.
@djsmiley2k What kind of server are you running? Most basic web server applications aren't that computationally demanding
In fact, for most web services, more cores > fewer but faster cores.
(think energy efficiency, which is all the rage in datacenters these days)
This is why we have 8C low-power Atom server processors, and why datacenter folks are taking ARM seriously.
@JourneymanGeek NANIIIIIIIIII

@Avery WAKAAA
@djsmiley2k NANDEYO BAKA SENPAI
@djsmiley2k CHEW-BAKA
lul
i said waka instead ob baka D:
tfw "nande yo, baka senpai" is a partially valid japanese sentence and actually applies to that
(it's roughly "what, dummy master?")
not exactly master but
also calling people master feels so weird
I thought senpai is senior?
11:25
like senpai (先輩) can be used in many contexts and mean different stuff, like, a student may call their teacher senpai, it can be called to bosses or older students and fluff. "Master" is kinda hard to get out of it
my english is bork
oh lol
you know that tweet that nvidia did
well
about making a great pair with amd?
it can be get out of it actually
like
the threadripper 1920, and a gti 1080?
can you see where it's going yet -_-
@Avery Good Sir.
obviously correct to 'Good Lady' where needed.
11:28
like senpai can be turned into master in stuff like "teach me your secrets master" in cases where for example they're training with uh, idk, for example an expert swordsman. It sounds weird when westernized but is otherwise fine.
'teach me your secrets good sir'
it, works.
that doesn't work with culture
self note: watch less anime
user226528
I read a whole Wikipedian article about Japanese suffixes. It didn't include the one that I was looking for.
are you possibly looking for honorifics
I believe they're on sep. articles
user226528
I am looking for "u". Japanese add it to virtually everything.
11:34
ah
read up on romaji
Welcome back, @AMD. Threadripper and a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti make a compelling pair. https://t.co/t7gn2ZHCBY
user226528
@Avery You know something very funny had happened in Final Fantasy VII when its Japanese creators tried to translate it to English.
@bwDraco check the numbers of the parts
1960x1080
user226528
They removed a legitimate "u" from a boss name.
11:35
@FleetCommand nope

The Abzu or Apsu (Cuneiform: 𒍪 𒀊, ZU.AB; Sumerian: abzu; Akkadian: apsû, ), also called engur (Cuneiform:𒇉, LAGAB×HAL; Sumerian: engur; Akkadian: engurru - lit., ab='water' zu='deep'), was the name for fresh water from underground aquifers which was given a religious fertilising quality in Sumerian and Akkadian mythology. Lakes, springs, rivers, wells, and other sources of fresh water were thought to draw their water from the abzu. In this respect, in Sumerian and Akkadian mythology it referred to the primeval sea below the void space of the underworld (Kur) and the earth (Ma) above. =...
user226528
This name chosen for one of FF7 bosses. Only in the English version, it had become "Aps"!
FF7?!
I don't remember that boss.
user226528
11:37
Do you remember Honey Bee Inn and Don Corneo?
yus
there we go, it's real
I just don't recall fighting it, ever :D
that game, jeeeez so many hours.
@FleetCommand See, with ancient civilization, immediate access to water was vital.
Ugly mofo too.
There's a reason civilization started near rivers and other water sources.
user226528
@djsmiley2k You seem sorry to have played it. ;)
11:39
@FleetCommand oh no
@djsmiley2k My plans call for an 1800X. I'm not going to do Threadripper because it's too expensive, I don't need all those cores, and I don't want to deal with the idiosyncrasies of a NUMA system.
i replayed it too
user226528
O.o!
user226528
I tried replaying it... just to fail miserably. It is L.O.N.G.!
@bwDraco I sadly can't afford anything :(
@FleetCommand pfft you can do it in 7 hours xD
11:40
(why does mobile chat insist upon reposting content I'm only trying to edit?)
user226528
In 7 hours I can probably get out of Midgar.
user226528
But no further.
No experience with FFVII.
@bwDraco Try clicking on the button instead of <enter>
11:42
@djsmiley2k noob
@FleetCommand tbh teh game is realitivtly 'easy' up til the point you enter the crater...
@rahuldottech Hmm... That makes it sound like a scripting bug.
user226528
@rahuldottech Been there. I've been trying to run Winver on a Windows 10 tablet without keyboard. Its dumbass onscreen keyboard insisted on changing it into winvre.
@CircusCat yus
@FleetCommand I think that ping was meant for someone else
user226528
11:43
@djsmiley2k Yeah. I wrote a walkthrough for each of the monsters of the crater for my brothers and sisters.
@FleetCommand wow :)
I just ground levels for a bit on that island.
user226528
They were more dangerous than Sephiroth.
yup
for sephiroth, knights of the nine + recast x9
then go and have dinner or smoething
user226528
Each monster has a trick to killing it.
11:44
@FleetCommand Spelling autocorrect in Windows 10 works at the system level. You'd probably need to change something in the Settings app.
I'm quite good at FF games
user226528
I played 7 and 8 and now playing 10 Remaster.
user226528
I also tried 3 and 4, but they are excruciating.
11:46
TBH, I'm almost finished with the first playthrough of the mobile edition of FFIV.
X-HD, however they are fixed now, but I've not gone back
@djsmiley2k Have the PC version, haven't gotten around to finishing it (though my current file has a full set of Celestial Weapons, fully powered up).
user226528
@djsmiley2k You know, one of my brothers and I were playing FFIII we got from Steam and we reached the part that we speak to that dancer and she dances. My brother is like: What the hell was that? Did it have a point or anything? (LOL)
user226528
Poor thing, he isn't as old I as I am.
user226528
11:48
He doesn't remember. Can't. There is nothing for him to remember.
I haven't played 3...
It took ages just to play enough blitzball matches to get the World Champion ball for Wakka and to fully power it up.
@bwDraco Yes, it did :9
user226528
@djsmiley2k Well, I told you everything about the dancer: There is a dancer; when you speak to her, she dances for you. Gladly. That's all.
;D
So what can't he remembeR?
user226528
11:50
Computers of 1990.
user226528
Back then, the dancing of this dancer was the zenith of the computer generated graphics.
Did they have people dancing?
@djsmiley2k The dodging lightning strikes part was the hardest, but there's a trick to doing it quickly and having a good keyboard helped (I'm on the PC version, but normally use an Xbox controller).
11:50
@bwDraco nod
on the ps3, there was an added delay due to a bug
they've since fixed it appently
my bro did it on the ps4 and it's fine -_-
user226528
Basically, when this dancer danced, people of 1990 would have said: Wow! Computers have become so very powerful. (Edit: "So" as an intensifier didn't exist back then.)
I might broww the game off him, just to finish up the trophies XD
I kinda abandoned the game after I got bored doing the monster capturing sidequest.
@bwDraco yup
the odd thing about that, is some of the monsters are the most powerful allies in the game
-_-;
Hopefully, I can pick it up again soon enough and get to doing the Dark Aeons.
@djsmiley2k Are you confusing this with FFXIII-2?
11:54
Oh, maybe
there's monster capture in both? I can't remmeber, was a few years ago
user226528
There is monster capturing in FFX-2
user226528
Boy, I won't be playing FFX-2. Just the couple of minutes into it and it is shouting "I am awful. Don't play."
I went through FFX-2 on the PS2 and I might not play it again.
@FleetCommand I quite enjoyed the stupidity of the whole thing XD
user226528
@djsmiley2k "Mish Yoona, how can I help yoo?"
user226528
11:58
XD
FFX-2 had a very interesting quest structure and unusually for Final Fantasy, a major, Elder Scrolls-style factional choice (Youth League / New Yevon).
the choice doesn't matter tho iirc
user226528
Still, I wonder which one is worse: FFX-2 or FF8?
It did affect what places you could visit and the quests available.
The main questline doesn't change, but a large number of sidequests depended on this IIRC.

?
Huh?
/me shrugs
Hmm, so it's more complicated than this.
I'd have to do lots more research on the FFX-2 quest structure and I really CBA to do this right now.
I thought a lot of the side quests were the same, you were just doing it for the 'other' factions reasons
user226528
There was no game that I regret having played more than Dragon Age II. It was a total waste of time. I felt the game's ending ridiculed me.
@Burgi Why did they actually synthiise the DNA to test the vuln, wuat?!
> The company they were ordering DNA from couldn't even synthesize it.
> Then, there was the matter of getting the malware executed. Since this was a proof of concept, the researchers made it easy on themselves: the modified an existing tool to create an exploitable vulnerability.
> They also made some changes to the system's configuration to make the execution of random memory locations easier (made the stack executable and turned off memory address randomization). While that makes the test environment less realistic, the goal was simply to demonstrate that DNA-delivered malware was possible.
wut.
Such a huge non news
basically boils down to 'validate inputs'
how do you validate DNA though?
g's are pair'ed with c's
a's are pair'd with t's iirc
Also, validate your talking to the DNA sequencer you were expecting to talk to
the fact you're now connected to something which calls itself 'BobbyDropTablesiPhone' is slightly concerning.

@rahuldottech It is Zo, Microsoft new AI. Unlike their last unmoderated one the eventually became a nazi, this one is moderated.
@FleetCommand ah

user226528
Always wanted one myself.
user226528
A link to it, I mean. But I suppose it is a Skype contact.
user226528
Zo is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Microsoft in March 2017. It allows users of Facebook via Messenger or the mobile messaging service Kik to chat with it through private messages. == See also == Tay (bot) == References... ==
user226528

Tay was an artificial intelligence chatterbot that was originally released by Microsoft Corporation via Twitter on March 23, 2016; it caused subsequent controversy when the bot began to post inflammatory and offensive tweets through its Twitter account, forcing Microsoft to shut down the service only 16 hours after its launch. According to Microsoft, this was caused by trolls who "attacked" the service as the bot made replies based on its interactions with people on Twitter. == Background == === Creation === The bot was created by Microsoft's Technology and Research and Bing divisions, and named...
@Burgi indeed as far as I understand that's why
they have more shielding...
and the transistors are further apart...
@FleetCommand oh yeah that's noticable
it's apparently changing topic when this one friend is talking about communism and chelsea manning
user226528
But the moderation was not strong enough.
user226528
It learned stuff that I am sure Microsoft isn't happy about.
12:53
@FleetCommand care to give examples?
@Avery ??
@djsmiley2k zo tried archlinux apparnetly

Q: VNC connections constantly drop but only when using laptop on battery power

Ben RichardsI have a somewhat strange (to me) problem and I'm unsure of how to precisely pinpoint the issue. I have a laptop (Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 that I recently bought new) which I use when working from home, and occasionally while at work as well. I only use it over a Wi-Fi connection When I'm working from...

16:32
might be underpowering the wifi card
check your power settings
Already did that. Mentioned that in the question. Was my first thought.
was mid DB update so i haven't read the question
i'll check when i get home
17:29
meh
17:42
@BenRichards I left a comment, try it out?
@BenRichards Click on the battery icon in the taskbar an make sure that power saver isn't switched on. Then click Power and Sleep Settings > Additional Power Settings > Customize Power Plan > High Performance. Try this and see if the problem persists — rahuldottech 2 mins ago
18:05
@BenN hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
@BenRichards what';s the timing like between disconnects at home?
I'd suspect your router personally
but there's too many variables currently
Have you tried asking your IT staff at work, if they can see if the vpn drps out at all?
also, you say you've tried 'different vpn servers' -- your work has multiple?
@Burgi both darksky.net and google were wrong about the rain it seems

19:16
@djsmiley2k Minutes. It varies though, it's definitely not a set period of time.
@djsmiley2k I'd prefer this convo on the question itself, but yes. And they're connected to different access points as well (Verizon FIOS and Comcast cable)
@rahuldottech I'll have to wait until I'm at home before I can try it. It hasn't happened at the office on the same laptop.
