15:01
@JourneymanGeek i have scripts that confvert magnet links into torrent files.
Bob
Bob
A magnet link is just a torrent file transformed into a URI-encoded string :P
Bob
Bob
(ok, technically they're more than that, but that's what you'll most often see)
@Bob I think you remember my rtorrent/bt setup right?
with the RSS downloader app seperate...
Bob
Bob
vaguely
15:03
ya, was a pain
4 NUCs later... ;p
Bob
Bob
but both magnet links and torrent files are independent of the DHT
It's possible to specify trackers in a magnet link. And it's possible to have a torrent file without trackers in it (which will then default to looking up the file hash in the DHT).
Okay.... I don't think this is normal
Sorry Alex, but that crap has to go!
yey recursive dirs
Bob
Bob
IIRC the one thing that's usually different is a torrent file will have individual file hashes where a magnet link most often just has a single bundle hash. Can't quite remember though, it's been a few years since I last touched BT
@OliverSalzburg Looks like a backup program that tripped over a symlink
I feel like this will be more interesting soon :P
Because that root Backup folder isn't even showing up in Explorer
I didn't even know it exists
15:06
are you going to have to take alex outside and break his knees?
Bob
Bob
o.O
@Burgi I'm trying to find the .exe for fucking Adobe Acrobat
This just randomly popped up
I hate Adobe so much and especially fucking Acrobat
@Burgi now now... we start at the toes
> Please make sure to close Outlook, because our installer will fail if we can't install that useless Outlook add-in you hate
> Please make sure that your Desktop is not read-only, because we really need to create a shortcut for Acrobat on it. You'll never need or use it, but we'll make sure it is re-created all the time.
> Why? Because, fuck you, that's why. :)
Maybe Alex is a collector of Acrobat installers
...
ARM?
maybe we need to start with fingers
15:15
@Bob I did
Dammit talking to Bob when I wake up in the evenings doesn't work anymore when the time difference is +0 instead of +11
Bob
Bob
@OliverSalzburg My favourite is how the Creative Cloud installer/updater insists on restarting Explorer.
Why? 'cause.
Oh hey Bob's awake
Hi Bob
Bob
Bob
Oh, those Explorer windows you had opened? They're gone now.
@TOWMN 'lo
I might have to skip Sydney
Bob
Bob
Come to Sydney! We have ... uh. bridges?
15:17
:-/
Bob
Bob
lol
@TOWMN Ran out of money time?
It's like $150 to go up the bridge. Though I know someone who knows someone who could get me up for free.
@Bob Trains are cancelled, replacement bus service instead :-/
Bob
Bob
Ow.
...shit. I forgot about that.
I could fly, for about $150 more than the train but then where could I take the train? Sydney to Adelaide would be far too long
Bob
Bob
Dunno if it would've affected Trainlink but they were making announcements about bus replacements on the intracity lines north of the city this week.
15:20
Yeah, there's bus replacements all the way from Melbourne to Albury for the next 3-4 days
And that's like, basically half the way -_-
trains got cancelled?
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN Ah, that's not even in NSW... would be unrelated to the local ones then
@Bob :-P
Bob
Bob
15:21
Albury was on the Vic border with NSW IIRC
I wish I can punch some guys
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN That's not too bad tbh
Albury to Sydney is a good distance
unless you're unhappy about the bus/coach ride? :P
@Bob Gotta load those important shell extensions so you can convert files to PDF!
Oh great, Jetstar flights to Syd just went up from $180 to $280
@Bob I like trains
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN It's actually 40% of the way but ok :P
Albury to Sydney is 15% shorter than Edinburgh to London
but yea up to you of course
we mostly have ... old architecture? *shrug*
and not even that old, considering you went through Italy
and you live in the UK :P
15:26
The day that Microsoft makes exFAT free for all without collecting the damn royalties is the day that I will jump off a cliff.
ok is it weird that the government agency only NOW has concerns about website security....
@Bob Lol
Hey Italy has plenty of 2nd/3rd gen 300kmh HSTs
@Bob Odd thing with the 40% - it's 3 hours for that 40% on bus and 8 hours for the remaining 60% by train :-o
Also the bus leaves an hour earlier and sits around in Albury doing nothing for an hour. And I'd have to get up in 4 hours. Bleh.
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN yea our trains go pretty slow
@Bob That's part of the beauty of the journey! :-P
where are you travelling to?
15:30
But as much as I like trains, and just travelling for the hell of it, the ability to get out of bed six hours later and arrive earlier is very very tempting....
@Burgi Bob's lawn.
Bob
Bob
>

Too many connections

Sorry, but Railpage Australia™ is currently unavailable.
Also where the heck is AVV airport
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN come back in 20 years abc.net.au/news/2016-07-14/…
> "This is the third busiest air route in the world, Melbourne to Sydney," he said.
O_O
@Burgi lol it's expected.
Oh erm, did we ask about security for that thing we launched?
@Bob Oh yeah, I plan on it. Also plan on going back to Malaysia in 5-6 years
They're in the process of building high speed rail from China through Thailand all the way down to Singapore
I mean I've done all the high speed rail routes in Europe, so I just gotta wait for them to build some new ones on the other side of the world.
Bob
Bob
15:33
@TOWMN been to japan?
<.< >.>
@Bob Nope
Waiting on them to finish building the 500km/h maglev
$20 extra for Qantas instead of Jetstar... airport is half the distance away, and luggage is included so it works out cheaper anyway
Oh and free food and what not
Great, now I have an invisible, half-deleted, half-undeleteable folder on my system which drives Everything insane
wtf lmao. If I fly with airmiles it's cheaper still, even though I have to go Melbourne => Brisbane => Sydney
Might be time to start off the weekend
15:35
That's not a shorter route -_-
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN funnily enough, if you took a train up north you'd probably pass within 200m of it
:35950249 lol. You think the 4 letter acronym agencies can't read your deleted posts?
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN that's... an interesting route
"Gold coast" "Sunshine coast"
Dammit don't the aussies love naming their towns in ways that make them sound like glorious places
@DavidPostill THERE WAS NO MESSAGE
Bob
Bob
15:38
If I've learn anything about in my time as a sysadmin about keeping a dashboard green, it's this: keep your red icons in S3.
@Bob Reward flight availability is also weird
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN ha, if only the names fit
0 direct flights available on Sat, 0 flights at all available on Sun, 20 different flights on Mon including business class for less than the train
But Monday would be too late cause I wanna spend at least 4 days in Adelaide
Wish I'd booked 20 days in Aus instead of 10 now
Bob
Bob
lol
could always reschedule but it'd probably cost an arm and a leg
Win-win, then you'll have more room on the plane
Bob
Bob
15:41
Me: There's no way the bug can be in my code. Narrator: But the bug WAS in his code.
@Bob Only during the week it seems...
Mon-Fri there's like flights every 10 minutes on Qantas, Sunday there's... zero
Note to self: Bob's lawn is within 200m of railway line
And has cats
Bob
Bob
Sometimes, we get hit by what most people call bots. More often, we get things I can’t in good conscious call bots, they’re just too stupid.
@TOWMN I think we're down a cat.
Incidentally, I almost tripped over one on my walk home Thursday
"Woolloomooloo"
Is a place in Sydney
:-/
@Bob that was @TOWMN stalking you
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN juuuuuuust 100m if you pick the nearest track :P
@TOWMN It was also the go-to example for the combinatorics component of the discrete maths course :P
15:46
@Bob o_0
Bob
Bob
the other one was Mississippi IIRC
@TOWMN There's a place in Coventry called Paradise.
(it's not)
Grr why did my 4G roaming SIM have to die just before I got to test the 600Mbps 4G-X networks :-(
Well, 850Mbps, but my phone can't manage that
@Bob perhaps i was mistaken..bittorrent is a protocol but it is just a generalized way of defining P2P sharing of files..the actual implementation of how files are shared and tracked are done through tracking server and its later replacement DHT..good thing is i didn't speak anything about bittorrent protocol in the seminar though my topic was similar
@Bob So you're a mathematician?
Bob
Bob
15:54
@TOWMN compsci had math courses
@defalt sounds about right
why there is no offline installer for microsoft visual studio 2017 commnity? They ruin experience of users..its online installer keeps on showing error downloading file after 25%
get better internets
if it failed for everyone, there'd be no users.
i've good internet..the installer is buggy..it downloads files very slow
i wonder what was the purpose of microsoft for not creating zip file of the application
Bob
Bob
15:58
online installer worked fine for me yesterday
@defalt it's an additional burden, and hard to keep up to date.
@Bob yeah i went to that link..it is just an extra overhead for me to make it offline
Bob
Bob
meh, it's only one extra step
@JourneymanGeek Thoughts about this one?
i'm going to try last time through online installer..i'm downloading 5GB of extra tools through the installer..maybe that's why it is so slow
And this and this ?
Looking for over the year headphones to take with me anywhere...
Bob
Bob
16:01
@defalt I installed both c++ and c# workloads... 9GB, took half an hour maybe less
P.S. Enjoy this 80s song and tell me how it doesn't make you wanna dance...
my installer says operation failed after some like 25% of download and starts all over again..such installers which don't save already downloaded data after failed download and restart again from 0% are the worst installer in this world
Weird; I didn't experience any issues even though my Internet was dropping outbound packets like crazy
its beer o'clock
if it was a zip file it would not take me more than 15 miutes to download it
16:05
thank the lord
Does a reboot help?
All my stuff (.NET, desktop native, and ASP.NET) was 12GB FWIW
reboot did nothing..my package is ASP.NET and web development..that makes 4GB total
@Bob Really? You think a software company with the resources of Microsoft would find it hard to add a 'tar -czf' to the end of their automated build process?
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN except it's not one big build, it's lots of little components that are updated independently
if they provided one big archive, the whole thing would have to be updated when any little part changes
16:14
@Bob And yet they still provdide Windows install DVDs :-P
Bob
Bob
making your own archive gives you a point in time snapshot shrug
And service pack rollup packages
Urgh. My operator's throttling my port 443 SSL vpn to 25kbps
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN seems like it's more out of necessity than anything else... they're promoting the MCT more now :P
yea the cumulative update decision was a bit weird
feckin DPI
And ATPI
Bob
Bob
less testing, I suppose
they care less if VS breaks :P
@TOWMN go grab a Telstra SIM :P
16:17
you know i'm going to suggest microsoft if they can't face small burden to create an offline installer then atleast upload the zip archive so that users can use IDM to download it..much better than using their online installer which has no functionality at all to make it quick
@Bob At 3am? :-/
Not sure if I'll even have time to get one before my 7am bus
Optus has free Spotify, should have got one of those
Only need VPN because Spotify is basically blocked on my 3G roaming SIM :-/
Bob
Bob
@TOWMN Coles express at petrol station :P
but activation might be difficult
ideally you'd want to activate at a carrier store. dunno if online activation works without driver's license number
i was wondering one day that if every tor node uploads its decryption key then the entire tor network would become plain text
isn't this possible?
Bob
Bob
oh, Telstra has their 24/7 online chat so you could activate that way
@defalt you'd still need to know the path the data took, to decrypt it mid journey
16:23
For your spam flags: superuser.com/a/1187205/337631
and why would every node suddenly do that?
and you'd need to defeat the end encryption too
end encryption lasts to third node and if every node uploads their key everything will become visible. About the path every packet will have a IP to which node it is going so i or NSA just has to look for its corresponding decryption key.
'blackeye softwares' as the user posting too
I think htis Tronsmart micro-USB cable has now properly kicked the bucket
'This was only a test, designed to make sure you were paying attention. You passed. Downvoting, editing, flagging as "very low quality", or voting to close are all appropriate actions in this case.'
AHHAAAA
i win the internets!
16:31
@djsmiley2k I've seen that before - spammer can't spell SENTIMENTAL - should be sentinel
yeah
:D
@Bob Does it have to be an Aussie drivers license number? :-P
bye
@Bob I want Optus :-(
> WHAT TYPE OF ID IS REQUIRED TO ACTIVATE A PREPAID SERVICE?

Australian Driver's Licence
Medicare card
Australian Passport
Foreign Passport
I have one of those
Anyone here play Cattlefield 1?
16:46
this shit just got serious :(
+1
@Burgi I thought you were in the pub?
@Burgi I did tell you to run away
the hosting company refuse to provide the apache logs from the time of the attack
@DavidPostill we get beer in the office
@djsmiley2k they WILL find me
@Burgi Not before you get old and retire
16:54
@TOWMN the 4 Letter Agency will know
@Burgi DVLA?
MI66?
CCNA?
Yeah I dunno what 4 letter agency you mean
Plenty of evil 3 letter agencies
HMRC?
@TOWMN you are better off not knowing
@Burgi EBCA?
roar
FIFA?
17:06
yes fifa
Thought so.
Why would he care?
What happened Burgi?
I found the four letters.
17:22
Hey guys
I am glad this week is over.
@jokerdino our client has partnered with a large UK government agency (hereby known as 4LA) to provide "services". given the nature of what the 4LA do i suggested that we need to do a pen test and move our client to a more stable and secure server and i was ignored
@Burgi Maybe the 4LA is looking for recruits amongst the attackers :)
Sounds ominous.
so last night after the new site was put live it was immediately hacked
!!headdesk
FIFA isn't a UK government agency...
lol
@Burgi Is there anything you can do now?
@DavidPostill this may or may not be the "services" our client provides :-|
@TOWMN Hint: HDIR
@Burgi lol
The 4LA entry bar is normally set quite high judging by the previous recruitment puzzle competitions
Nginx local server... Whenever I access any site of the form example.com it loads my nginx web page but any site example.com/page.html will serve my site but not use my style.css or background. Its just text. Why does it not load the entire site?
17:30
No wait. That was a 3LA
@DavidPostill it might not be aimed at full grown up people
Ah. script kiddies :)
@audiemmm A new high-end processor means new bugs to neutralize⚔️⚔️⚔️! We'll look into this and provide information in future updates.
Sup @Bob
Why is he even still awake
Anyway the "arm and a leg" cost to change my flight to something 2 weeks later is "only" £228, which isn't too bad
I mean, last time I tried to change a flight ti was £550 for a week later and a considerably worse flight
Lets see if I can stay in Melborne a couple more days, cause I cba thinking straight at 4:30am
Good morning @TOWMN
Does anybody know where to put the code in the answer here: stackoverflow.com/questions/35716988/…
It says:
> at the top in head tag
I know but I mean in the abc.html file?
or in the nginx config file
fuck it
i'm going to go home
i'll drive in zig zags to dodge the drone strike
Keep us updated.
17:41
genuine ticket... 'Check Cabling on UPS (Virtual Host)'
....
face
palm
So it IS Mi6
@djsmiley2k Close. I believe it a related 4LA.
17 mins ago, by DavidPostill
@TOWMN Hint: HDIR
NASA?
D:
ooo
FCHQ
@djsmiley2k You are very warm :)
Hey, I don't want a drone strike @DavidPostill
So I'm wondering if it's a hacking challenges website ;)
17:47
@djsmiley2k G
@jokerdino C
@djsmiley2k H
@jokerdino Q

18:00
lol
18:13
@Burgi weren't the 2s immune to Cylon hacking?
19:03
@Burgi the four letter agency who's after you has armed dromes?!
@djsmiley2k ooohhhhhh gchq?
I get it now
oh no
ur gonna get droned
But why the heck would someone as high security as gchq be so incompetent with their security
@djsmiley2k your drones have no power over me, I'm out of range!
Then again I suppose the aussie government could be pretty easily convinced by the brits to hand me over
... If they can find me Mwahaha! (I'll be hiding in the rail yard next to Bob's yard if anyone needs me)
19:43
user image
2
that's @TOWMN
I pronounce TOWMN like "chow mein" except "t" instead of "ch"
tow mein ?
@djsmiley2k yup :D
Heh, I mentally pronounce it "tom win" even though the W and M are in the other order
meow
@bwDraco cew (little tiny meek cat mew)
19:49
hmmmmmm kingdom of loathing
maybe i can play that here o_O
So I have this problem where I can access my local nginx site with www.site.localnet or even www.site.localnet/fake.html but www.site.localnet/fakepage/nonexistent.html will load my site but not the background and styling... I put base href ="/" in the header tag which made one directory down work e.g. x.com/file.html But I cant get it working for more
I tried using abs paths for the style sheet and background image file but that made it not load the site entirely everywhere instead of just not for the longer URLS
o_O
@allquixotic cute kitty
yawn
20min to go

@JourneymanGeek that's never worked; you can't onebox something when it's also @ing someone, bot or no
try this instead

Much easier than looking up the chat id
Ahh thanks

Q: Network-wide Help Center bug

GlorfindelI posted it on Meta Stack Overflow as well, but in any case: there's a network-wide bug affected all sites' Help Centers.
