"IT IS NOT CHEATING. I MERELY TOOK A SMALL BREAK".
How else would death speak?
well, either that or death of the endless.
@JourneymanGeek Well, worst thing that could happen is summoning Zalgo. Then there will be nothing to worry about. Nothing at all. Literally.
Death is a fictional character from the DC comic book series, The Sandman (1989–1996). The character first appeared in The Sandman vol. 2, #8 (August 1989), and was created by Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg. In the stories, Death is both the end of life and a psychopomp. Like most anthropomorphic personifications of death, Death meets with the recently deceased and guides them into their new existence. However, unlike most personifications of death, she also visits people as they are born, according to Destruction in the Sandman Special: The Song of Orpheus. Evidently, only she seems to remember...
@JourneymanGeek in a font that's all caps. Death won't press the caps key. He's too good for that...
@JourneymanGeek cool

@JourneymanGeek Death of the Endless would smile and play peekaboo with the baby
@ThatBrazilianGuy You merely took a small <br> ?
Anyone ever added a site to "trusted zone" in internet explorer via group policy(computer config part) ? Is it possible that those entries won't show up on the client but are "activated" ?

I've added a site to it via group policy, gpresult says everything is ok but I can't see the entrance in the list and I'm not sure if yxou should see it :D
"the entrance" argh bad english, I mean entry :D
@SaintCore You have a 4-minute period where you can edit your messages ;)
@SaintCore Sorry, but I can't help you. I only use IE to download Firefox.
@SaintCore That's probably better asked as a question on the main site ...
There's sun and loud thunder outside for about 15min.

@DavidPostill surely it is, but I was just to lazy to use google :D I'm quite sure I'm not the first one who wondered about that
16:23
And why is FF bad in a corporate environment? I am in one now and using it.
Aaaand... I'm back!

@Rahul2001 lies. I deduce this persona of text-speech won't last long. Just incase, I've sent a letter to the vatican to perform your exorcism.
meh.
grabs a rolled up newspaper
@ThatBrazilianGuy for example: you have to allow kerberos authentication for every single url you want to use it and you can't configure a proxy via dhcp options in firefox...
16:25
@SaintCore I would. I can put a lot of coats, turn on heating, lit a fireplace, stay inside. Here you can turn on the A/C, turn on a fan, take 5 baths a day and start sweating while you dry yourself, fantasize about removing your own skin to see if you will feel less hot...
Sh... I'll let you in on a secret that Microsoft will never disclose.
Do you know what Bing's number one search is?
Google
@Nick Yes, we don't need a new you-know-who here.
@SaintCore I don't use kerberos. And I have a vague memory of the DHCP proxy thing.
@Rahul2001 uh no way. bing is what the amazing spiderman used to look up stuff. It still has some klout left, I think.
@ThatBrazilianGuy we use kerberos for sso with a lot of our inhouse-applications, but about the dhcp topic: As far as I remember those dhcp-options are non-standard and mozilla only implements the options which are defined by a standard
@Nick Th original spiderman was better!
16:30
@Rahul2001 hopefully homecoming won't be too bad. Anyone watch that yet?
@SaintCore You're talking about the TCP packets which indicate the local proxy for auto-configuration, right?
@Nick It's not out yet afaik

AMD meanwhile say everything will be unlocked.
@ThatBrazilianGuy Huh?
@ThatBrazilianGuy yeah, dhcp-option 252 is the one I'm talking about
@Rahul2001 ever since the end 2016, people move and flex funny. So, it will probably be a fun movie... or maybe there'll be just lots of sitting around and it will flop.
16:34
> flex funny
wot?
The option was originaly introduced by microsoft and almost any other company implements it these days, exept mozilla. FF just ignores it :)
@ThatBrazilianGuy but anyway: you are working with firefox esr ?

Someone on the third link claims to having had success
@SaintCore No, I'm using FF latest on Fedora 25. But I can use any software or distro as long as it is open / libre.
I have local admin and there is no list of approved or blocked software.
I'm just expected to have and use common sense.
"I defined in a wpad.dat file.
I have a web server that is pointing to a wpad.dat file. I created an A record in DNS that points to that file."
wpad via dns is working in firefox
wpad via dhcp won't work ;)
@Rahul2001 Am I the only one who noticed people and things have been out of whack for the past couple of months. I think not. As I'm trying to go about life normallly here, I'll just sweep all the weird stuff as temporary things only I'm experiencing. 'nuff said.
I hate how I forget to eat my lunch at work so many times. It's so damn easy to lose track of the time on the computer... =/
Funny except for the part where the policeman unloads.
That kind of show off without warning is probably enough to get you fired.
@ThatBrazilianGuy If they only incented a clock in the computer.

@djsmiley2k good question. No, I'm at home. This is supposed to be a home connection.
do you have an antivirus program that flakes out about .application files?

Nope.

no idea then
find the downloadavble installer and use that

you could pay a random dude already destined from Singapore to Brazil to take JMG as carry-on luggage, and get him to Brazil for like $20
then he'll get fur all over your system and it'll overheat and you'll have to get them to buy you a new one
@Mokubai Thanks! xD
Can someone name an alternative to DBAN which I can use while running Windows?
@OliverSalzburg you can't nuke the system partition; Windows won't let you.
if you wanna nuke another partition though, you can
17:59
@allquixotic Oh, yeah, I want to clean an external HDD. Not the system drive. I just don't want to boot into another system
There is a hdparm for windows. It is limited in its functionality though, no idea if it can send a secure erase command
Thanks :)

Security question: Can Flash Player access browser history from other tabs?
18:09
Oh, best one about temp yet: TWO GIRLS, ONE COUP
@bwDraco Sounds to me like it shouldn't even be able to read the history of the current tab :P
@bwDraco short of an exploit that grants privilege escalation, there are no purportedly good browser extensions whatsoever that can view "browser history"
there are tracking cookies that might give them an idea, if you don't block them; there are things like HTML5 storage (local to the individual domain); but history? you'd need local user privs at least
I'm sure you could write a native FF/Chrome extension that leaks browser history on purpose, then load it, but neither Java nor Flash would be designed to do that, even 10 years ago
just got an email from Kaiser taking a survey asking me if I wanted Obamacare repealed, modified, stay the same, "don't know" or "no opinion".
I voted "stay the same" (28%); 18% wanted it repealed; 40% wanted it modified; 5% don't care and 8% don't know
looks like KP is figuring out what to do with their nearly $3m/year lobbying budget
18:32
Hello @schizovivek How may we help you today?
Obamacare was a failure.
Just replace "Obama care" with "trump doesn't"
@bwDraco was it. I had the idea it worked no better or no worse than any large goverment project.
!!s/n't/n't care/
@bwDraco Many would disagree with you
@DavidPostill That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.
18:36
No, I left of the care. On purpose.
@DavidPostill Just replace "Obama care" with "trump doesn't care" (source)
I don't see how health insurance is such a big political issue in the US
Much like saying "I have not got the foggiest" (and leaving off the 'idea" part).
Everyone has health insurance in India, and most of it is private
18:37
@Rahul2001 because you (or someone) has to pay for it ...
I think health care inthe US is simply twice as expensive as alsewhere due to people sueing (and the high insurance costs against that).
It is very expensive and a bunch of people can't afford to pay.
Which would not make it a heathcare problem but a culture problem.
From what I'm reading, Obamacare was not fully successful in reaching its goals. It wasn't a complete failure, but it didn't work as expected. It didn't make health insurance more affordable.
@DavidPostill But what's the big deal? You go to an company, pay every month/year, claim it when you need to
18:39
Some people managed to get insurance they otherwise couldn't get, but it really didn't work.
@bwDraco But it isn't a bad thing
@bwDraco It wasn't meant to make it affordable for everyone it was meant to make it affordable for those that otherwise couldn't afford it because their premiums would have been insane
@allquixotic So, this is what I had until this evening:
@bwDraco that's because Obama's original vision for Obamacare never became law; the ACA law itself is an 800+ page monstrosity full of pork barrel politics, partisan politics, and "free market" dogmatism that panders to insurance companies, giving them free handouts at the expense of the public
18:40
@allquixotic Yup.
And this is what I have now:
Obamacare should be called Ryancare, because it's extremely similar to what Paul Ryan proposed a long time ago
@ThatBrazilianGuy That desk would make me feel insecure... I need a more closed space
@ThatBrazilianGuy That's better...
@Rahul2001 The big deal is the unemployed people who can't afford the enormous premiums.
18:40
Welp, managed to calibrate my old laptop's monitor under Linux. The display is utter crap.
@DavidPostill Precisely.
@DavidPostill Premiums are very affordable here...
Folks here have to routinely pay $300+ for basic insurance from the marketplace.
@Rahul2001 But not in the US. If you are lucky your employer pays.
Obamacare didn't work.
@DavidPostill how do you expect an unemployed person to afford anything? without a universal basic income, "unemployed ... afford" is an oxymoron
18:42
@DavidPostill !?
@bwDraco But it could have if your politicians weren't insane
The idea was that the government would give tax credits to the poor to pay for insurance, but that didn't seem to work.
A company would reek in millions if only it made premiums affordable, as far as I can see
@allquixotic Well here unemployed people get some money from the state.
you either give out a UBI or you eliminate unemployment; it doesn't make sense to say "oh, we only ask $60/month instead of $300/month because that's going to be easier to withdraw from your $0 bank account"
that's like saying I'm only going to withdraw 1 gallon of fuel from my empty gas tank instead of 5
it's nonsense
18:43
$300? I know the US $ is weak, but basic insurance over here was Eur 90-ish.
(Not extended all things++ top of the line insurance (which is EUR 150), but a far cry from $300)
@bwDraco but requiring everyone to pay something is a fundamentally sound idea; if you make it optional to have insurance, a TON of healthy, poor people will not pay into the system, and will thus not be investing in the system that's going to support them later when they become unhealthy
because by the laws of nature, if you're not unhealthy now, wait a while and you WILL be, 100% guaranteed
it's absolutely, positively certain
unless you suddenly drop dead, but then it doesn't matter anyway
you can't have a healthcare system based around "only pay if you're sick" because nobody but the top 0.1% can afford to outlay the actual costs of healthcare for the chronically ill.
everyone needs to pay, all the time
an enormous proportion of the population is chronically ill at any one time, and you yourself have like an 80% chance to join that proportion at some point in the future for a number of years
@allquixotic That is how it is over here, Mandatory basic insurance.
@allquixotic There will always be people who cannot afford to pay - they already spent their money on more important things - food/energy/rent - these things have to come first if you don't have enough money.
Do government workers get insurance in the US?
@Rahul2001 Why ask me? I don't live in the US.
18:49
Sorry, mistake :/ I was going to reply to your message, but then decided to ask that question first.
Davidpostil lives in the country with the NHS.
how's that coming? is the NHS getting 350 million GBP per week yet?
@allquixotic Brexit is a long way off yet ...
@allquixotic Those cheesy gits need to to be fed into a blender.
Nope. It was a "politician: We could pay the NHS".
Post vote: Nah, lets not pay the NHS
18:52
"Oh wait, this was essentially just a lie and we actually get a substantial number of grants back for various things like Cornwall..."
Meanwhile, on a much lighter note:

It's now 0.56.

@Hennes Yes. Great if you can find an NHS dentist willing to take you on. Even then you pay something towards your treatment (unless you are exempt because unemployed/pregnant/whatever). Where I live there are no NHS dentists taking on new patients. I have to go private. My last bill was 120 UKP for a few x-rays and some antibiotics. That is almost 2 weeks of my unemployment pay. Fortunately I still have some savings.
The problem is that dentistry has long been treated as not a field of medicine...
Until recently, dentistry had never been considered a branch of medicine.
@bwDraco That has nothing to do with it in the UK. It is part of the NHS (mostly). Has been that way all along.
18:57
That sounds like there aren't enough dentists in the NHS network...
@bwDraco Well they get paid more for private work so it's not surprising. You can't force dentists to work for the NHS. Many do a combination of NHS and private, but not all.
An NHS practice is paid x per patient per annum + y per treatment where these numbers are fixed by the NHS. I believe a practice is only allowed z patients per dentist. If you are patient z+1 you can't get treatment....
I hope you get the idea. Some of these dentists have long waiting lists to join. Same applies to GPs.
If you move somewhere new you are basically stuffed.
We have similar issues here but it's not typically as bad.
Yeah, my dentist is like 16 miles away...
I changed dentists in December. It took me 3 days to change, 2 weeks until first appointment. But that is in NL, not in UK
Anybody went to CES 2017?
19:05
@AnimeshAshish I don't think anyone here works in the consumer electronics trade so none of us can go. It's not open to the public.
@Hennes Yes. When I lived in NL it was no problem ...
I do pay Eur 156 per month though.
@AnimeshAshish What happened to your gravatar?
@Rahul2001 I deactivated my facebook, so my dp went away with it. And I am too lazy to put one on right now
@Rahul2001 : People don't judge based on gravatar, do they?
Let's drive cars with AI in GTA V yay
19:11
@AnimeshAshish I do xD

@DavidPostill I just sent an email to the friend's mom... I don't know if it'll work, but it's worth a try
@AnimeshAshish It's sometimes easier to see who is talking by looking at the Gravatar.
@DavidPostill I find it insane that you can be denied care at a GP because you're not on their books.
20:16
@MichaelFrank where?
I smashed my filling
phoned up the dentist i was registered with 2 years prior
'sorry sir, we can't take you back as you have outstanding payments'

they must be making a huge loss on me
this one 'treatment' is 9 fillings I think
I've got at least 9 appointments

I just had an epiphany about the issues I've had here and at home. I've been under constant pressure to satisfy my parents, and what my parents ask of me don't align with my personal behavioral goals. When the two clash, I get in trouble. Mother is in constant fear that if I'm given full agency and independence Bad Things (tm) will happen.

@StackExchange we don't want those SF scumbags coming over here, stealing' our jobs!
@Hennes we should merge with physics.se, after all computing is just the application of chemistry and chemistry is just a light version of physics
@Bob math.se is a bit too abstract for me, but if we want The One True Stack Exchange then i suppose we can just merge the entire network in.
after all, programming is just applied math...
23:14
@Mokubai No it's not. Programming is just zeros and ones ... :)
@DavidPostill ones and zeros added subtracted and manipulated to make a box full of lights show a pretty pattern
23:32
I disagree with the closure personally
I was tempted to post a heck no answer.
Simply because merging the sites would make them much less unique, and I suspect a lot less interesting to many users.
And loosing users due to that would defeat the states goals.

People who want to become Swiss citizens need to show that they have a firm grasp of Swiss customs and culture and can fit into their community.
wtf is wrong with this woman????
piglet racing should be in the olympics!
Some people think they're duty-bound to do stuff like this. PETA is often hated for being too extremist about it.
PETA had an advert on a busstop near me last week
it was a baby chick and the tagline was "this male chick is killed at birth"
several things crossed my mind, the first was "its a bit small for a roast chicken"
Isn't that true though? Nobody eats rooster, and they don't lay eggs.
