Bob
Bob
you probably toggled it at some point?
Likely!
oh well
back to nmap and paint I guess? ;p
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek actually wait
protocol is active on the adapter
but service is off
*shrug*
point tho is, there's nothing close to it at a consumer level
heck, how do you detect where a switch is?
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek answer: you don't (need to)
switches are intentionally transparent to most protocols you ever interact with
08:17
Unless you're trying to map a physical layout
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek eh, apparently it requires devices to support it too
@Bob pretty sure it could detect my switch before
Bob
Bob
lldp is the standard way of doing this
windows now supports lldp

Information about network interfaces and results from particular operations on responders provide the mapper with information to assess the network's topology. One key assumption made is that after a switch has learned a responder's segment, it does not forward traffic destined to that responder's Ethernet address to other segments.

if you have two switches, i.e. pc - switch - switch - pc, I'd be rather surprised if it could detect both

Anyone tried VR gadget? Seems like a hot trend now:
I want to know if there is any possibility to insert more than one image in one cell in excel file
@Boris_yo I have a lenovo VR but I did not like it

@ThatBrazilianGuy Rental?
@SpringLearner Is there a better?
@Boris_yo rebel I think

You had a tablet 13 years ago?
lol, just to show.
The document itself is dated December 5, 2003.
@bwDraco Samsung S2 or iPad 4 Mini?
Nexus 9.
Had it for a year and a half.
08:41
@bwDraco You are above average consumer that replaces his tablet at least every 6 months. Good.
i literally cannot find where the radio is on this new floor to turn it down...
I am with Nexus 4 smartphone almost 3 years. Let's see how tough I am when it comes to instant gratification.
any suggestions?
follow the sound?
im not at work today \o/
christmas has started
Car in for MOT :S
is it a newer car?
@djsmiley2k the sound comes from a wireless speaker
08:51
can you just turn the speaker off @Burgi ?
11 yrs old @Burgi
its ceiling mounted
i can't reach it
@Burgi tell your minion to turn into a bat and destroy it?
What's the point of a vampire minion otherwise?

Q: How to prevent unauthorized access to bluetooth speakers?

apclaryI have the Soundsticks Wireless speakers. They support bluetooth but also have a regular 3.5mm audio jack. My issue is that neighbors can pair with the speakers and play audio and I don't know how to prevent this short of turning off the speakers. Is there any way to prevent unauthorized access? ...

@bwDraco in this case, I think what he needs is unauthorised access
@JourneymanGeek he is flying home to Transylvania today
apparently there is only one person in the office with the sonos app and they have gone on holiday
i hate christmas
08:56

@JourneymanGeek happy to help :P

I wonder who sold my email address. I just got spam for... trucks.
local ad.
when you say "trucks" do you mean lorries?
actually yes
09:20
are they allowed in singapore?
i was under the impression you guys banned all sorts of cars
spam? Probably not
oh, trucks
but but
I'm a dog
what would I do with a truck?
transport dog biscuits
(also sending me spam is the best way to ensure I'll never do business with you ever again)
it makes me laugh
you'd think with all the infomation i'm freely sharing that someone would be able to actually direct relevent adverts at me
right now, they're still failing
09:43
i think it should be the law that if your data is sold both the seller must inform you immediately.
you mean like how it's the law to inform people of when your data is breached?
yes
i'd give ICO real teeth to do data audits
@Burgi better yet. I should be able to demand who the source is
that would be good too

HELLO!
Darn that pronunciation though
Oh, someone dumped a c2d downstairs
Looked like a DIY box.
Okay, this sucks
One of my best friends is having anxiety attacks and her mom doesn't believe her.
10:14
anxiety about what?
Stuff isn't going on very well at her home
She should've come to me in school, but one of my friends told her that I was too busy with my girlfriend :/
And now I have no way to contact her because her mom took away her phone and is saying that she is just trying to gain sympathy
I don't even know how to help her :(
can you not go round to her house and chat face to face?
zzzzzzz43333z1\jk90rerert4e

@Burgi I would if she didn't live on the other side of the city
@djsmiley2k baby cat like typing detected

Also, here you can't walk out of the house and go to visit a friend without serious repercussions
wtf?
We'll probably both get grounded for like the rest of our school lives if I do that.
what? why?
Goddamn it, I hate not being able to help
@Burgi This is India. Teenagers are often seen as attention-seeking, not-caring-about-family idiots
Also, majorly overprotective parent(s)
i think that is global thing
10:24
I don't know what to do
why can't you pop round for a cuppa and a chat again?
Because my 12 year old sis would be alone at home, the friend in question lives far away, I don't have my mobile phone, I'm not sure of her address, we would both be in deep trouble if our parents found out, which they probably will
According to Google, the general location of her house is about an hour away... My mom would be home before I reached.
@Rahul2001 that's what everyone thinks about teenagers
i didn't know your sister would be home alone
Also, you can't fix everything.
10:32
:(
Dosen't mean you can't try of course
but wait around for school. go say hi
I hope that she doesn't do something drastic
Also, mental issues and asians parents don't quite work out.
Uh huh
Or asians in general.
10:35
> i don't want to live like this
no, don't.
Those two messages are causing me a lot of anxiety
urgh i feel for you
Having been through that stage. Teenagers are suprisingly dramatic, and tough
she'll make it through a weekend
Go say hi the next time you can.
Will do
first thing in the morning tomorrow
11:16
how can i explain website text reflowing to someone who is print focused
@Burgi "Image the reading a book with only half the sentences on the page!"
hmm...
Well, its closer to "reorganising a book from hardcover to paperback, on the fly"
Essentially you're automatically trying to get the layout to work on a different print size
I would totally grab a piece of paper and shake it around fold it in half has a visual aid!
management is in today and it is already a better day
basically all yesterdays issues are caused by one person in client services being crap

Okay, I video called with the friend. Stuff seems to be better now...
it always does
teenagers == drama
Yay
@Burgi we're just older and more cynical. ;p
@Burgi That's exactly the problem. People refuse to take teenagers seriously. We are human too, and some of us do, in fact, have serious problems (like her).
yeah and we have all been there
i would say only 20% of the time the drama is valid
eh
Drama can typically be avoided if people would just stop looking beyond their own noses ;p
12:12
in 15 years time you'll go "hey remember that time you thought the world was going to end", "lol, yeah i was an idiot"
I agree that many (most) teenage problems are extremely petty and silly. However, parents always seem to forget their own teenage years.
possibly

Great, BBC. That's really great journalism.
> I agree that many (most) teenage problems are extremely petty and silly. However, parents always seem to forget their own teenage years.
It's not that teenage problems are petty or silly. It's just that teenagers, by definition, lack experience, comparision and perspective.
@ThatBrazilianGuy and most older folks lack perspective.
In older years, we get amazed at how could we be so troubled, sad, mad or excited about such small things... Well, back then they weren't so small!
14:19
we were
(Well, I probably was smaller than most ;p)
"Oh, c'mon, your high school isn't the whole world!" When you're 12 it is, for you.

The Bolivian Navy (Spanish: Armada Boliviana) is a branch of the Bolivian Armed Forces. As of 2008, the Bolivian Naval Force had approximately 5,000 personnel. Although Bolivia has been landlocked since the War of the Pacific in 1879, Bolivia established a River and Lake Force (Fuerza Fluvial y Lacustre) in January 1963 under the Ministry of National Defense. It consisted of four boats supplied from the United States and 1,800 personnel recruited largely from the Bolivian Army. The Bolivian Navy was renamed the Bolivian Naval Force (Fuerza Naval Boliviana) in January 1966, but it has since been...

Copacabana (local and standard Portuguese pronunciation: [kɔpakɐˈbɐ̃nɐ] or [kɔpɐkaˈbɐ̃nɐ], rarely [kɔpakaˈbɐ̃nɐ] and [kopɐkaˈbɐ̃nɐ] in other Brazilian dialects) is a bairro (neighbourhood) located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is known for its 4 km (2.5 miles) balneario beach, which is one of the most famous in the world. == History == The district was originally called Sacopenapã (translated from the Tupi language, it means "the way of the socós", the socós being a kind of bird) until the mid-18th century. It was renamed after the construction of a chapel holding...

Sydney New Year's Eve is an annual multi-tiered event held every New Year's Eve over Sydney Harbour, centring on the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia. Its main features are two pyrotechnic displays, the "9 pm Family Fireworks" and the "Midnight Fireworks", both of which are televised nationally with the latter televised around the world. Synchronised to a soundtrack, the fireworks explode off the arches, catwalk and roadway of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and also the city buildings. The barge in front of the bridge features occasionally during the show to synchronise with the bridge's fireworks...

and, yea, hella crowded out there

@ThatBrazilianGuy Yea, that's literally a third of the city's population... actually I doubt there was that many.
There isn't that much space in the harbour! ...I think.

@Bob Well, during New Year, some parts of Copacabana defy the law of physics that states "two bodies cannot ocuppy the same space at the same time".

it's crowded enough during Vivid tbh
