Hey im back, yeah so I to program to get things to work in the real physical world; instead of like microsoft world which is more computer/software related if you know what i mean
How do you like my gravatar :D ?
@BenN I restarted and am trying to install the thing but its been hanging here for a while
says server execution failed
00:28
Hmm, that's interesting
uhm no microsoft windows is the real world to me
@CausingUnd Yeah sometimes you have to do what you dont want to :)
what does it take to make a robot arm move, just an electrical current through a motor for x amountof seconds or until two conductors touch that work in a transistor cutting the elctrical current?
is that programming to you
Thats more like electrical engineering...
Electrical theory
00:33
yup
raspberry pi too
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Know anything about handshake cracking?
Is ZoneAlarm partially installed? Removing it then trying again might help
Unfortunately I have never run into these circumstances, so I can't offer firsthand experience :/
Yeah thanks for the help @BenN I ran the ZoneAlarm uninstaller before I tried and restarted so I dont think it is: here is the error log for visual:
Some people say adding NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE to the Administrators group helps, but that's a pretty bad idea from a security standpoint
its all good except:
[06F4:04B4][2016-10-02T20:34:43]e000: Error 0x8024001e: Failed to execute MSU package.
[0F6C:0118][2016-10-02T20:34:43]e000: Error 0x8024001e: Failed to configure per-machine MSU package.

[0F6C:0118][2016-10-02T20:34:43]e000: Error 0x8024001e: Failed to execute MSU package.
yeah I agree
tcp handshake? haha
00:43
There are cleanup tools for ZA but I can't vouch for their effectiveness or legitimacy
yea thats the problem
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere WPA handshake lol
so the installer is failing? whats happening?
ooo WPA
the installer fails at
Microsoft Visual C++
Hey! I tried it again and now i get to 46% instead of 28 and its on microsoft visual x64 :D
@BenN If it isn't from the maker, I typically wouldn't trust it. If it is, I'd question the competance of someone who messes up his uninstaller
hey do you know process monitor?
00:51
yeah
you mean task manaager?
I'd love to know how to crack a WPA handshake
or airmon-ng like monitor mode?
no I mean Mark russinovich and the other guy
00:52
oh
Yeah I can tell you
So the easiest way i find is with aircrack-ng tools
You have to have a linux CD
@NULL process monitor and such is the 'better' semi unofficial alternative to it
do you know how to crack a wireless oh lets not
I have a linux usb
but it's ubuntu flavoured
cool that will work
and I need to purchase a wireless card. any suggestions?
what you need to do is install aircrack-ng...it comes with airmon-ng etc
the best one is probably
00:54
(sysinternals was unofficial, them MS bought em)
BECAUSE MS SUCKS THAT WHY THAT WHY
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere for a laptop or desktop?
SO BADLY THAT SOME DUDE MADE BETTER TASK MANAGERS THAN THEIR PROGRAMMERS
yes thats right
Stop yelling please.
Procmon serves a very different purpose than Task Manager
00:55
sorry I dont take orders at this version
procexp
also, mark russanovich was a bit of a windows internal guru
for a rig desktop
ahh. Most of them suck.
;p
Get a laptop one and a pci-e adaptor
alpha awus036h they say thats a good one...I use a Panda PAU03 because I need a small nano adapter...you need to find one that supports injection, and monitor mode
tbh, I have those generic nanodongles as a spare. Eyeing a AC varient
00:56
So basically the idea is that whenever a user wants to access his wifi he has to authenticate to the Router via what is called a 4-way handshake... our goal is to intercept that
but that costs 1.5 grand aibobot
yeah
Now normally we would have to wait for a client to connect, but because of the tool called aireplay-ng we can send de-auth packets to clients already connected
but shouldnt I get an ab/b/g/n adapter or card? seems yours only does n and the other does g/n ?
make the clients reconnect? lmao
but
Yes...
isnt their session encrypted and wouldnt a disconnect request be encrypted too....
00:59
for modes supported it depends on the networks you working on
IIRC there's no authentication on deauth packets
no there isnt...
right
you can black out TCP in your area if you MITM all the connections in range and randomly send TCP RST packets huh? :P
haha never tried that
Really I am not an expert I have just got intrested in it and have been learning:)
be like a secret agent, yo am blacking out the internet at this coffee shop ... NOW.
need a netbookfor that stuff
so what happens when the network is open or everyone knows the passphrase
you can literally eavesdrop on everyones' connections right
01:02
For Open Wifi Networks people have this thing called Evil twins...tricks user to connect to your "Starbucks Wifi" and you can see there https request
rights its ssl and https but there are ways to unencrypt
You have to have seen the initial auth (hence sending deauth), but yes, with that and the passphrase you can decrypt traffic
cooooooooool Bella is n tv
honestly I've been a serious guy all my life
@BenN Oh yes forgot to mention
My problem is I have this handshake sitting around and I cant crack it:(
01:04
if I can save someones life using this it would make me a happy man
using what?
I mean how do you save someones life with evil twin :D
oh
well
what about kids being harassed by a stalker or those stories where people are suicidal
you know what I mean? people dont find out til it's too late
yeah
01:05
if I'd happen to bump into that it'd be great if I could help
Of course yeah!
Although I like fooling around I do value privacy though:) Like I dont believe in NSA snooping around everywher
but lets not open up that can of worms:)
So I stuck my handshake in this site that is a proffesional password recovery site...five days later it said password not found :O
Dictionary passwords like password35 or 1234567890 are easier to crack than random passwords that are like 15 chars
so this is hard to crack? s(#hjdWAO(#IEMN#WrmzW(&5
the first day I used my wireless hotspot I used 500MB except I wasnt the one who used it. my password was like 15 characters or something. changed it to 64 after that
wheeeeeeee I'm drunk lightheaded
lol
Jan 23 '14 at 0:49, by That Brazilian Guy
No I am slightly drunk
01:15
@ThatBrazilianGuy I feel that every s i n g l e day
64 dude that would take the NSA till hell freezes over to crack
Jan 23 '14 at 0:42, by That Brazilian Guy
I have a slighr suspicion iight be drunk
Nov 4 '13 at 14:31, by That Help Vampire Guy
At least you guys aren't in an almost-drunk state of dizzyness like me.
LMAO you serious? thats been my wifi password for years now because one day when I was yougner Id always check my connected devices and it showed some wierd connection that wasn't from a computer so I was like shit... I turned on mac filtering, 64 character passphrase, ip binding...
I sat down and tried to write "root access" and somehow I visited my workplace's website
I think I might be staying here with you guy a little bit too much
mac filtering is useless:) but yeah
01:17
I think I'll start asking SE for a salary :P
if your device mac is xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx i just do macchanger -m that mac and im no :)
assuming i go your pass of course
got*
I calculated it once, it would take the worlds fastest computer like 7 million years to go through all the combos for 63 chars
@ThatBrazilianGuy Whats the weather like in BA?
ik lmao
but are you going to try 1000 IPs to select the right one for my mac or does that info also get passed over the air un-encrypted
yeah idk about that...actually to be honest ive never heard of ip binding
01:38

Hey guys I have a problem
I get this error over and over again when I try to play a m3u file in vlc
[mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2 @ 0x7ffb8802d320] moov atom not found
[00007ffb88c02958] avformat demux error: Could not open myvps/ampache/play/…: Unknown error 1094995529
[mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2 @ 0x7ffb88036360] moov atom not found
nvm I fixed it by disabling transcoding on my streaming server
Something must've been going wrong during that
That could mean a lot of things
In this case though.
Its rubber duck debugging.
Well actually I just noticed that it was stored on the server as a different format than in the url
but yeah I would've found it with rubber duck debugging too
04:38
i got down to the B&M tech store, biggest tech store in america, and seated at the side ( a bit) of silicon valley, like 20 miles from google kind.
They had NO modern video cards 1070s no 1080s no 480s , although they did have a few before. the video shelfs looked more like a picked over garage sale.
they only had one type of 8t Drive, the WD cloud in a box, and the WD my disk , not sure if there would be a helium drive in those?
they had no reds, no red pros, no purples, in these high sizes.
I Talked to 2 of the employees about this, as it had been another month or 2 again that i had asked before. Then i said "is the store closing or something" Lol the dude started looking around as if he was about to lose his PayCheck :-)
this is the same store that could sell 2 full pallets of 2, 3, and 4T drives when they would make the scene. I cant really figure it out, while many people shop online for stuff nowdays, the parking lot at that place is never 1/2 empty. they always have people Lined up to pay and get out of there.
05:02
Are you talking about the flagship Fry's Electronics in Sunnyvale?
05:14
nn
@bwDraco this is the one in fremont. but i can access the sunnyvale or san jose ones too, if i thought it would do any good.
05:43
According to numerous reports on the web, the new WD mybook uses AES hardware encryption. while that might be good for some, the added "effort" and extra hardware , and any possible slowdowns or extra power required to do the encryption dont fit in well with my scenario.
because sometimes these tiny chip controller stuff, in the poorly cooled box, can fail. and this method of encryption is then dependant on the box. so when people pull out the drive, not only are they unable to read the data (of course) , but many people claim they cant even format it and use it without the box or encryption.
the 16T duo , could be different, in such that the 2 drive pop out, and the advertisments themselves indicate that there are real Red (5400) drives in them. Plus that box has a tiny fan (i HATE tiny fans because they never seem to last time).

But there seems to be way to many reports, that the crappy raid controller and whatever drives they are tossing in, are failing at a rate that is unlike Western Digital itself.
06:28
the 2 mid tower computer cases that met my specs for size (full size board, and tower heat sink) was :
corsair It Core x9, but i could find no possible way to put in and access an optical drive in it. I am not really stuck on opticals, but if someone wanted one made (again).
and the ANtec p-100 which looks like it would claim to be a "quiet" type of case, designed well enough, but 3/16ths of an inch of lightweight open cell foam, was only going to make it "quiet" when sold on the web, it had no capability to slow or stop sound, or reduce rattling and fan noise.
both cases were a full 3 inches (oooh wow) shorter than the one I am now using, and the antec had some ok dust filtering capability. and the antec was also 1/2 the price of the corsair.
soo many of the cases there, looked like they are trying to be high tech , by having plastic design garbage to look like a Transformers robot :-) which might be cool if any single one had done any of it well.
a majority of the cases that would be deemed "smaller" were certannly too thin in width to handle full tower heat sinks.
07:04
Wondering how they offer free UK number forwarding and support. Any chance they eavesdrop if I call online store and tell them credit card number?
They also offer Fax2Mail and Mail2Fax, plus they don't share private information. Yet they don't charge for service. Does not happen.
@Boris_yo oh it does
infact that company maybe a subsiduary of the company I used to work for
@djsmiley2k You worked in VOIP phone numbers company?
They'll sell your number or something simular even if they say they don't
yup
well, they handled both voip and pots
@djsmiley2k From profit perspective, do they operate on think profits and is competition tough?
competition was deadly
profits from a service like that are incredibly thin
but they'd run thousands of services.
(the company I worked for didn't run these services btw, just the infrastructure for clients)
07:18
@djsmiley2k Was it B2B or B2C?
Sounds like latter.
Mostly B2B
Judging by very low pricing I see from many services, it looks like they employ few reps and expect them to bust their but off to handle inquiries from demanding customers.
I mean free market has it's disadvantage in shrinking profits. Then companies have to outsource if not export labor abroad. In the end customers complain about poor support. This economy model will drive everyone to the bottom and eventually destroy humanity.
I never seen so much selling like it is today. Everyone sells something, even small man does. But if there is so much supply, how can there be demand with disposable income to afford all this?
The equilibrium is tipped...
Holding attention and money is the challenge of 21st century.
morning
07:34
@Boris_yo nope
they pay for support from my ex-employer basically
There was 3 staff, who did the 'customer service' for about 150 companies
I could never put up with the crap they had to
@djsmiley2k 3 people supporting 150 companies?
@Boris_yo As long as women exist, there will be someone around to dispose of your income :-) no fear of that going away.
@Psycogeek I meant the opposite. There is no disposable income.
No in this economy where companies compete to exist on thin margins and pay scraps to their employees.

1 hour later…
09:08
@Boris_yo most companies had no support required
s/companies/services
lots of things lik that website, where you'd very rarely get a call from a 'customer'
09:30
@DavidPostill Ugh
@DavidPostill is it possible to run set "prompt= Adavana$G$S" in a batch file and then let it function like a normal CMD?
@Rahul2001 Yeah. Rollback war. Seems to have stopped for the moment.
@Rahul2001 What are you trying to do?
I've been working on this collection of utilities for command prompt, which are basically run from a batch file
Right now I just set the path and run cmd, but I was wondering if it is possible to change the path too
@DavidPostill Ah, okay, got it to work, never mind
@echo off
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
prompt= Adavana$G$S
cmd
pause
endlocal
Seems to work. Was that what you meant?
09:36
Yeah, thanks
I'm super angry at my school today.
They didn't badge me as a member of the computer club
Because the computer teacher holds a grudge of some sort against me
@Rahul2001 Can you appeal to someone with a brain?
@Rahul2001 It's probably because you are smarter than he is ...
@DavidPostill My headmistress said that my computer teacher told her that my efforts never amount to anything significant.
Which is utter rubbish
@Rahul2001 Can you prove otherwise?
The only times the school has won tech award in the past year and a half since I joined, I had a major part to play.
@DavidPostill I pointed this out, and then she made another excuse
09:44
Then I think you have to let it go :/
She said I do not know how to balance out academics with co-curricular activities
she might be right
I pointed out that I always get good grades, and then she said I don't have leadership qualities
Even the president of the tech club fought for me
dude, let it go
The headmistress is adamant
09:45
@Rahul2001 Most geeks don't. It's not in their nature and they have to work very hard at it ...
i hate having a minion
@DavidPostill I've always managed to get an A or B, but I really need to work very hard
all the management responsibility sucks
@Burgi Exactly. I hated people management. I don't mind technical management.
Unfortunately even though I hated it I was good at it ...
Maths and physics come naturally to me, but not political science, eco, geo and the rest, which are mostly mugging up
09:47
At least my team and my line manager said so ...
I suck at mugging things I don't understand up
In fact, last year I got grade upgrades in two subjects just because of all the awards I'd won in tech
Uh, suppose I just have to give up :(
@Burgi No. I gave up.
@Bob Are you with OVH?

I think quix is on there too.
(well, it is closer to him)
for me, it's cause the AU <=> EU cable sucks so most of my traffic is routed via the US anyway
@Bob Isn't that the long way around?
Bob
Bob

@DavidPostill Yes? :P
Sounds like someone has screwed up routing tables ... or there is a currently active cable fault ...
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill Nah, it's always been like this.
Much more capacity on the AU <=> US cables.
So AU <=> US <=> EU is more common than AU <=> Asia <=> EU

@DavidPostill Oh, and SEA-ME-WE apparently does go down a lot.
Not to mention it's a horribly long route:
Eww Hetzner
(I was actually thinking of switching to them)
I'm paying silly buggers for an old piece of crap right now. Even my existing provider now offers a machine with twice the RAM, newer CPU, and more disk for 30% less than I'm paying
@Burgi Huh. Genius.
Bob
Bob
10:38
@PotatoCat @allquicatic was on Hetzner, then I was looking at dedis and came across OVH, then he switched to OVH, then I got an OVH box too :P
@Bob Ah, if allquixotic was on them they can't have been terrible then :-P
Bob
Bob
Mostly cause Hetzner isn't really ideal for US/AU (latency)
OVH has the lowest latency to the UK, but meh. Dunno how long I'll be here
Bob
Bob
ah
@PotatoCat I think quix also liked the IPv4 allocation from OVH more :P
no monthly fees and all
Pretty much all UK routing is London-centric and OVH is London +3ms, Online is London +10ms, and Hetzner is about London +12ms IIRC
@Bob Yeah, that's one consideration, I'm paying about $12 a month for extra IPs on mine.
Hetzner IPs are about half what I'm paying, OVH, well they're free basically
Bob
Bob
10:43
@PotatoCat Eh, I've given up caring about 10ms outside of Australia
Even within the country, really
cause Sydney to Melbourne apparently adds some 20ms
@Bob I'm primarily needing a remote virtual desktop, because my laptop stinks and keeps crashing (and doesn't have nearly enough RAM for all my tabs)
Bob
Bob
I really need faster-than-light communications. And higher-brandwidth cables. And less-crappy routers at the ISPs.
@PotatoCat ah. I've been using Azure for that
for two reasons: I get AUD70/month credit w/ VS subscription and other AU servers are crazy expensive, and it was an easy way to spin up Windows machines
@Bob FTL would be nice, yes.
But even at the speed of light, Me <=> OVH latency would be only 4ms, not 24ms.
Bob
Bob
Hm. I suppose more satellites space mirrors would work.
Or digging/burning a hole through the planet.
@Bob Project Loon mirrors!

@DavidPostill Most tropical areas won't, afaik

o.O
20 minutes shift sounds painful.
Probably for British convenience.
There's no logical reason for DST ever here
@JourneymanGeek Somebody obviously thought there was :)
@DavidPostill darned british
The sun never set on the british empire cause clearly, along with malingering and lollygagging, they set themselves to a jolly good show of clock-fiddling.
Bryan Adams!
11:07
Grr if there's one thing I hate more than latency it's packet loss. And dogs.
@JourneymanGeek afghanistan has a 45 minute timezone
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, we had to make sure the Gin and Tonics were served at exactly the right time :)
@JourneymanGeek I think It's all that wibbly wobbly timey stuff they do

The tz database, also called tzdata, the zoneinfo database or IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) time zone database, is a collaborative compilation of information about the world's time zones, primarily intended for use with computer programs and operating systems. It is sometimes called the Olson database, referring to the founding contributor, Arthur David Olson. Paul Eggert is currently its editor and maintainer. Its uniform naming convention for time zones, such as America/New_York and Europe/Paris, was designed by Paul Eggert. The database attempts to record historical time zones and...

Q: What can cause images to not show in HTML Help (chm files) if UAC is Enabled?

jrhOn a computer running Windows 7 Embedded Standard (SP1), 64 bit, I am not able to view images in any chm files unless UAC is turned completely off. All of the images are replaced with a small black and white box with an "X" in it. Things I've tried: If I transfer the chm files to a different ...

any ideas guys? I still think this has something to do with web permissions being applied to a help file on the local computer
I'm not a web developer and I tried all the usual stuff
@jrh what path are the images in?
does that folder have the correct permissions ?
jrh
jrh
they are compiled into the chm file, let me check what directory they are in, in there
they are in the /img/ directory, and the /lib/ directory
11:45
which browser are you using to open them? IE?
jrh
jrh
I tried the help file itself in many different directories, the user's desktop, the user's documents folder, etc
I'm using hh.exe
i.e., the built in chm help viewer, it's part of Windows
it internally uses IE 11
do they work if you open the file directly in IE11?
jrh
jrh
yes
if I extract all the files out of the chm file and open the htm documents in IE11, it works, in the same directory
can you open the chm directly in IE?
jrh
jrh
no, it just prompts me to download it
11:50
is it on a network drive?
jrh
jrh
no
I've tried it on both the C: and the D:
both of those are partitions on a physical hard disk installed directly into the computer
also no browser will open chm files (Google Chrome, Firefox, and IE all prompt to download)
interesting idea though
do you think that the fact that the user's folder is on the D: could have anything to do with this?
though I have a computer with a very similar setup (user folder also on D:) that can open these same files in the same directory even if UAC is enabled
@Burgi Nice :)

@Burgi I hate to ask for stuff like this but just a reminder, if you think my question shows research effort would you mind upvoting it? I think it got downvoted because I didn't have sufficient rep to post URLs and I ended up putting a bunch of plain text URLs. I think the question's a lot easier to read now, and I'd appreciate some feedback either way.
