I have reason to believe that carrier aggregation is not working on my phone...
LTE performance has been very erratic for me and I don't know why.
It's like dropping to 3G HSPA+ sometimes gets me more reliable service.
I just saw a help vampire with 507 questions and 7 answers... Really?
@PotatoCat I mean they were going to award the bounty automatically (half of it) within 24h if I didn't pick someone
@cutrightjm haha on stackoverflow there's a guy with like 5000000 questions and 0 answers

Q: 50 question per month limit?

BlankmanI get a message: Sorry, you are only allowed to ask 50 questions in a 30 day period Why is there a question limit? 50/month is just not enough :)

00:18
@bwDraco No, I can't "get him to". I can, however, pass along a softly-worded request.
@allquicatic That's amazing.
But he's got answers :(
@allquicatic He's been outranked! At least in pure question count.
only 7.1k? wow
Bob
Bob
@allquicatic He places lots of bounties, I think.
@allquicatic Guy with the most questions and also no answers:
@allquicatic I haven't eaten today so I'm hangry and I'm trying to not just post something really rude on his question

@PotatoCat Heh. My network does VoLTE, but I can't use it. I'll probably never be able to.
Like most of those questions are answered by Google, probably the first result
Bob
Bob
Let's see... MVNO, so no VoLTE support there yet.
And even if there ever is... it requires a carrier-specific ROM.
I suppose I could flash with a Vodafone CSC...
@cutrightjm ...the first result is probably Stack Exchange.
"can be found on Google" is not a good excuse to not allow/answer a question on SE.

@Bob it doesn't matter. Google includes Stack Exchange. The answers for most of the questions are already on here.
The fact is 0 effort is put into most help vampire questions

Well, it's bleeding obvious it's fresher's week at the local universities when all the streets are full of drunken half-naked teenagers hobbling about at 1am...

@allquicatic Oh I see
And you didn't want harrymc to get half of it? :-P
@cutrightjm What's the opposite of a help vampire?
01:21
> It's a light circuit with a switch that, when closed, shorts the power source (turning off the light in the process).

4 hours ago, by That Brazilian Headless Horse
I didn't pay a dime for the ticket; the way I arrived here is quite crazy, I didn't get to watch a single talk...
I only arrived home now, 5hrs later, and the way I left the place was even crazier
oh
was it in a car pool?
In the end of the night I was at the home of someone I'd never seen before
5 hrs Im sorry :(
But I had pizza, so i had that going for me which is nice
02:18
@ThatBrazilianHeadlessHorse Were they headless too?
02:56
Mornin'
hmm cant find how to change the TCP timeout in MINA. going to have to scoure class docs, then maybe source code
@Burgi Couldn't ping you, it was 12:00 AM here :P
wait do you live in australia and have flash player 18 or higher?
03:01
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Who? me?
uh... no, I don't... why?
but you live on the other side of the world because it's morning for you nd night for me
wondering if you could login to this game and tell me what your ping is
well no login required
Australia isn't the only place on the opposite side of the world :P
I know, it's a general location what I meant of
:)
03:04
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere @Bob Lives in Australia, IIRC
well the servers in the united states so I want to see what kind of ping someone living on the other side of the world would get
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Use a free VPN/Proxy?
Bob
Bob
@Rahul2001 ?
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Eastern AU to West Coast US is approx 200-250, East Coast approx 300-350
But latency is generally more related to the specific links (and sometimes even local ISPs) than pure geographic location.
mmmm
I guess you're scared I will collect your IP address. no worries, as it would happen
I have a feeling MINA isnt into ack time outs
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I'm on a school PC, I can ping if you want
03:19
that's worse, a home IP will only be accurate to a general city, maybe 40km accuracy

while, an IP of an institution such as a school can reveal the school board name, maybe even the school, which results in me having possibly an address of where you're located.

I just can't accept such information from you
and I can't help but reverse IP people hehe
not that that's the reason I asked, it;s just a side effect.
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Well then, I'll use a VPN
well that would make the ping unreliable because your data is being routed through probably if it's free a slow gatway
thanks for the offer though :)
Oh, lol @AbhishekSaxena left himself logged in into this school PC... (I'm actually @Rahul2001)
The SE logout system is buggy
Bob
Bob
@Rahul2001 A VPN would increase response time, though.
Oh, he said that.
03:23
wow I know someone ..
HE?! how could you assume that I'm a he?
It is me again...
I like hugging cats for someone's sake!
uh... right
Bob
Bob
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere So, what pronoun do you prefer?
03:31
Not. Funny.
Bob
Bob
That's not a pronoun.
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere You have four options: (a) he; (b) she; (c) (s)he (although that is a pain to type); (d) it
actually there's a fifth, it's called them
and they
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere So you are multiple persons?
03:35
confusing right? I am confused too
no people actually use they and them for singular
Singular they is the use in English of the pronoun they, or its inflected or derivative forms, such as them, their, themself, or themselves, as a gender-neutral pronoun to refer to a single person or an antecedent that is grammatically singular. It typically occurs with an antecedent of indeterminate gender, as in sentences such as: "Somebody left their umbrella in the office. Would they please collect it?" "The patient should be told at the outset how much they will be required to pay." "But a journalist should not be forced to reveal their sources." The singular they had emerged by the 14th century...
causes an invalid something in your stack doesn it!
oh
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I think I'll just use "he"
yes please do
you can't see my tears in the rain
04:18
@Rahul2001 do you think it's impossible to set a TCP ACK timeout in java?
Bob
Bob
eh. connect timeout
send timeout
same-same
all socket methods take a timeout param
no it's niether a connect timeout or send timeout I think
connect timeout isthe time it takes to connect and socket timeout might be the time there is nothing going on on the socket
Bob
Bob
a connect timout is the time it takes to receive an ack from the server on handshake
I need the time the program waits until it decides the connection is dead after not receiving an ACK in response to a data send
yeah on handshake
Bob
Bob
a send timeout is the time it takes to receive an ack from the server on send
04:28
oh okay awesome
Bob
Bob
s/send/write/
hm. maybe java doesn't have one o.O
could've sworn there was one
nice I searched "apache mina send timeout" and my question thread is link #5 already
Bob
Bob

Q: java socket / output stream writes : do they block?

jbuIf I am only WRITING to a socket on an output stream, will it ever block? Only reads can block, right? Someone told me writes can block but I only see a timeout feature for the read method of a socket - Socket.setSoTimeout(). It doesn't make sense to me that a write could block.

> We will likely introduce a mechanism to do select-like functionality in 1.3. This would let the user do what he needs to do.

benjamin.renaud@Eng 1997-08-26
> This feature is now covered by the NIO API which provides non-blocking operations on sockets. An application wishing a very fine control over outgoing operations like a Socket write should therefore use the SocketChannels instead.

###@###.### 2002-10-29
yawn
I'll try the config writeTimeout in MINA although docs say nothing and some people said its a timeout for how long MINA has to write the packet from its buffer... soooooooooooo sounds like thats an application side timeout not a TCP thingie
04:43
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I do this by preference...
Keep-alive packets MUST only be sent when no data or acknowledgement packets have been received for the connection within an interval. This interval MUST be configurable and MUST default to no less than two hours.
oh

did you guys know that azure had a major DNS failure yesterday?
@Burgi They also had Office 365 portal issues

Meh, Azure AD is disappointing :( I was hoping it would be a viable alternative to on-premise AD

11:44
@JourneymanGeek Eh, worked for me on ABP.
@bwDraco Clearly the don't want my thieving, adblocking self reading their content. I try to give sites I love that ask nicely 10 minutes to convince me their ads arn't annoying, but most don't make the bar
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere talking about stuff is fine. You should have a rough idea of how far you can go with respect to that. Other stuff, we occationally have to teach you
11:59
@JourneymanGeek what's your schedule like?
@bwDraco 8 to 6
Wow, that's long.
So I'm wondering if you can delete the last exchange in the ask-a-mod room...
It was to delete information that should not have been posted in the first place.
how are you

12:06
@microbuster I'm fine. How are you?

I realize our moderator coverage is less than it used to be due to JMG having a new job...
@bwDraco something that was said a few months ago, and no one really cares about?
Yeah.
Is it a productive use of my time/powers as a mod?
(only random's last message, strictly speaking, needs to be removed)
12:09
Shouldn't you ask him to?
@DavidPostill doing work at aq
Since it feels like an entirely appropriate response to what feels like a frivlous request.
@bwDraco I'm so tempted to post a youtube link :)
Go ahead
There is nothing wrong with doing so
(explain why you believe otherwise)
You asked for it :)
12:13
Alright, then. How should I interpret this?
!!/headdesk
Sorry, sorry. Am I annoying anyone here?
@bwDraco No, definitely not :)
well can ask some thing to @ChatBotJohnCavil
@DavidPostill

I got you ;)
Alright, then.
I don't like the way the law is designed these days.
@rlemon I think it exists already
!!unonebox
@PotatoCat Functionality is disabled
Well, not anymore
why... would you disable it
:(
12:23
@OliverSalzburg It sorta kinda is?
Can't remember if it was Azure AD or O365 AD but my last (large) organisation did use some form of delegated MS "cloud" AD
@microbuster ???
@PotatoCat Azure AD is O365 AD
@rlemon Check the code; I'm pretty sure there's a technical reason for this.
Well then :-P
@rlemon Why exactly do we need this?
12:26
Anyway, they started off using the off-site MS AD just for O365 services with the idea of moving all on-site AD off to it eventually (and just keeping a local mirror)
Seemed to work OK, or at least, nothing had exploded during my time there.
And that was handling 10,000+ logins a day
Well, synching your Azure AD with an on-site AD is one thing, trying to use Azure AD exclusively is a completely different story
For starters, you can't join a Windows Server to an Azure AD domain
@DavidPostill because then gifs go away after 90 seconds
As I say, that was the (eventual) plan. From what I can tell the organisation is still there, so either they've done it successfully, or still not done it yet.
well, not away, but not oneboxed.
And the only benefit you get from joining a Windows 10 to your Azure AD is slightly better integration with hosted Exchange, I guess
12:28
@bwDraco if there is let me know, I wrote the code for that one.
@rlemon There's no technical reason for this
@rlemon Making me think I'm talking in the wrong room :P
:P just look for the blue name
It was disabled because the maintainers discovered (via me) that it was open to all users and they couldn't be bothered restricting it to mods/ROs so just turned it off
(IIRC. And I usually don't RC)
open to all users? it is automatic
12:29
Turning it on and off.
you can add use: 'OWNER' to plugin permissions FYI

I wonder what unonebox does
Dec 7 '15 at 14:51, by Bob
@qasdfdsaq every 1.5 mins it unoneboxes old bot messages
Dec 7 '15 at 14:51, by Bob
I don't know why that's not a protected command. Hm.
I don't really care about unonebox in here :P but you can just alter the permissions and it should work
for any commands really.
Dec 7 '15 at 14:51, by Bob
I think you might've stuck it in the on state o.O
Dec 7 '15 at 14:53, by Bob
Oh wait no, I misread the code. He actually schedules the 1.5 mins fot after each message is posted
Anyway...
My guess is he/allquicatic disabled it completely rather than restricting it, but it certainly used to exist
Maybe @OliverSalzburg can try it to see if it's just me that's disabled from using it :-P
!!/unonebox on
