Though I've done the exact opposite on my wifi networks, sticking the router in an outdoor enclosure and wiring the antenna straight to it, and running PoE to the router

Though that's mostly because WiFi uses a lot lower power levels than mobile networks historically, so signal loss even in high quality cables is quite significant

LTE has dropped transciever power levels to almost on par with WiFi now though, so the distinction isn't so huge

At work the new mast put in a few months ago, pretty much delivers a constant 80Mbps+ without CA.

I'm guessing the reason it was 3 years behind others in the area being upgraded was... well it wasn't that important

The ideal situation would be sitting like, 50m from a mast, with one, and only one wall between you and it, and directly facing the centre bearing of a sector.

@Bob: Maybe your area is highly congested largely because of the poor provision of fixed broadband?

A lot of big hilltop towers have not been upgraded for LTE, and many are deliberately not done, because although they cover a huge area, they also spread interference over that same huge area

LTE really needs small coverage areas and low-set transmitters to work well.

It's always annoying when you get like 10Mbps by the window, but if you step backwards a few steps in exactly the right direction, it jumps to 100Mbps.s

That's the sorta thing intelligent self-organising networks should improve.

Some cap as low as 0.3Mbps. Also since the new cheap roaming deals were introduced, they've started capping roaming use to 0.3Mbps too

In my medium suitcase it leaves 0.5" on each side, perfect for some padding, and still enough space for two weeks worth of clothes, a large set of travel speakers, and stuff.

@DavidPostill well I could take it on as carry on luggage just in its own retail box, though that might be a bit weird.

Even in its original shipping box it does fit within carry on dimensions, and my main carry on bag fits under the seat in front as the additional small/laptop bag, so its doable. Though I don't think it's really going to get damaged in a proper suitcase anyway
