My experience writing papers does not agree with this. I guess I'll be eating my own words.
> If you have a tool and arn't aware if what it can do, its dangerous. A jedi can do amazing things with a lightsaber. A roomful of chimps with lightsabers... would get messy.
@bwDraco in a sense, there's the mechanics. But after a point, there's a certain set of tacit skills that let you refine how and what you look for
and somethings that arn't quite properly mechanical.
Not to mention actually deciding what is relevant and what is not
Okay, this might be an indication I'm losing my mind again. I'll step out of this room for a bit. I said something I clearly knew was wrong.
Alright, I'm back.
Sorry for this, just standard precautions.
"Google-fu"
I had no reason to believe that research is a hard science.
Okay. Everyone talks about the Pistons. Is there some way I can get the rubber earplugs to attach firmly to the IEM?
...found this in the transcript, which I missed earlier:

and 275 dollars is out of what I'm typically willing to spend on a backpack
I actually paid US$330 for my current backpack.
Why?
Aug 19 '15 at 18:12, by DragonLord
Spending $60 for the third time on a High Sierra Freewheel was just getting annoying.
Aug 19 '15 at 18:12, by DragonLord
Most packs I've used are made to a price point. Osprey packs are not.
00:17
@bwDraco I don't have Pistons, but I use the UE Comply Foam tips, and they fit on my IEMs great.
@bwDraco my current backpack cost 30 quid or so
essentially military surplus
!!s/quid/squid
and the tips should just friction fit
@MichaelFrank That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.
:<
Someone do the thing...
00:18
@MichaelFrank You need a trailing slash to complete the regex.
!! s/quid/squid/
@bwDraco !!s/squid/squid (source)
...too late.
!! s/30 quid/30 squid/
@bwDraco @bwDraco my current backpack cost 30 squid or so (source)
00:20
and don't forget the wider context there
Hmm. So you were looking for a laptop case...
I still don't own that razer backpack
I still want one ;p
@bwDraco naw, my idea laptop cases are sleeves
My camera bag ran me $215 and is still holding up well after several years of intensive usage.
For starters, it goes with me practically every day to campus.
That's a specialised piece of kit you use often tho
@JourneymanGeek Reaallllly? :P
00:29
@MichaelFrank yup
@bwDraco I have one of these:
It's enough to hold my Camera plus a couple smaller lens. It's nice.
Hmm. My main field bag is a Think Tank Photo Urban Disguise 60 V2.0.
The larger wheeled pack is an Osprey Meridian 22.
I've spent big bucks on packs because I've grown tired of them failing on me.
Again:

$200 for a carry bag it better carry itself. One time I was dreaming up a way i could have a weather baloon filled with hydrogen, it would take some of the weight off my hiking backpack. And then to use it (instead of batteries) in a fuel cell to charge stuff. And to have the resulting exhaust H2O to drip back into my water bag , being weight reduction also.
@Psycogeek Sounds like "The Luggage"
could also provide shade in the dessert, the only place where hiking with a huge kite baloon would be practical. 4in1

...I think my current bag cost me $15 and it's still going strong after two years
Granted, original price was around $40-$50, I forget which

Telstra.
what. the. fuck.
They somehow managed to merge my account with someone else.
So my (prepaid, data SIM) account has someone else's name attached to it.
And I can see his home broadband bundle.
And his phone number. And email address. And home address...
@Bob Good luck sorting that mess out ;)

@DavidPostill Guy in the store was confused. Guy from support phone like was also confused.
@DavidPostill IKR?!
This is under my account (email login + password)...
I don't envy the Telstra support guy who has to call them to sort this out...
FFS, I'm pretty sure I can guess his wife's name based on the email address on the home broadband account :S
I wonder if he can see mine.
@Bob Those Psyducks are a real bother. I atleast hope the tangle you're in is atleast entertaining ;-)
10:33

Proxy, VPN, other tunnel...
Or contact your admins to get it whitelisted if it's a valid resource.
@Bob admins are pretty hard to contact. Though I am planning to submit a list of things that should be whitelisted at the end of my semester (yeah, that's the only time I can reach them)
Proxy, VPN, tunnel... idk, I can't install anything without admins.

@Nick yup doesnt work here either, tumblers using a method
@Psycogeek Ugh, my time here is up. Well, maybe I can get through next time. See you guys, later.
@Bob The only way ;)
translate.google.com/… works just the problem with everytime the word gringo comes up it changes it to whitey :-)
Bob
Bob
@Nick If you really wanted to hit the IP you'd need to pass along the hostname too... which means either getting access to or setting up a different DNS resolver, editing the system hosts file, or installing a local proxy.
a friend is on win10.. I did ctrl-shift-escape to try to see the process name for edge but couldn't see it. I wanted to do taskkill /f /im blahblahedgeblahblah.exe but I could not see what exe edge used. What exe is it and why wasn't task manager showing that?

they probably programmed it in Ruby :-) beings they fired all the real programmers at MS :-)
@barlop i have no idea, but i do know taskkill will work by wildcard ' edge*.* and if they do the windowtitle right (not for remote) you might kill based on it.
ahh sombody doesnt know chat markup :-)
11:31
@MichaelFrank thanks.. and what would I click in task manager to show that?
it's not in front of me right now

I don't think this was a bad question superuser.com/questions/1068115/…
it's a shame the guy deleted it
it's kind of interesting to see a cable one cannot identify
13:13
@barlop " its used to update my devices firmware" - it might help if the OP told us "what the device was". He also say's it's broken. Presumably he can order a replacement cable from the device vendor.
the question is no use to the OP. 'cos the OP was just hoping he could pick one up at a local store(rather than wait a few days for a new one to arrive from the manufacturer), and found out he can't and deleted the question. If he'd have been more considerate of the community he would've called the manufacturer and found out the name of the cable(if it had a name), and posted it
Bob

13:47
Ok. Never installing Windows updates again.
@barlop looks a lot like a serial cable

@barlop was a guessing game question.
and a pretty bad one, since it could have been a standard serial cable, or something wierd

@MichaelFrank What do you mean? I blocked quoted all the quoted material as per How to reference material written by others
I do that in all of my answers if it is quoted material.
I meant the bit where you quote the question. Seems odd to use a header for half the sentence, then a block quote for the rest.
Ah. That because it looks dumb if the heading is longer than one line. My personal preference is to do it like that.
I like my answers to look good as well as be good ;)

@oldmud0 Might be spamdexing.
!!/wiki spamdexing
In computing, spamdexing (also known as search engine spam, search engine poisoning, Black-Hat SEO, search spam or web spam) is the deliberate manipulation of search engine indexes. It involves a number of methods, such as repeating unrelated phrases, to manipulate the relevance or prominence of resources indexed in a manner inconsistent with the purpose of the indexing system. It could be considered to be a part of search engine optimization, though there are many search engine optimization methods that improve the quality and appearance of the content of web sites and serve content useful to...
actually, where I got it from might spoil the fun
