Anyone familiar with adobe illustrator and exporting to PSD?
@TomWijsman 1K to?

1 hour later…
01:28
@RobMoir Not really a problem, just wanted you to know. I just added the chat room to my chat room list, I might or might not expand to more sites in the near future so...
@JourneymanGeek 20K. :)
Voting to delete answers with score of -1 or lower
Voting to delete questions immediately after they are closed (even if they are new)
Editing all tag wikis on the site
Dunno about the usefulness of the first two, but I'll try to get the tag wiki quantity / quality higher.
Perhaps not immediately due to project work and exams, but my second semester looks like I will have lots of free time...
Or at least I hope so.
02:00
@TomWijsman I assume you mean lower...
02:39
@soandos Why lower? :S
@TomWijsman if the quality goes up, the fraction gets smaller
@soandos Well... Its not a fraction.
I mean more tag wikis filled in and more of higher quality, I should indeed have used a & character instead. But I usually type a / when I mean pick one of both...
@TomWijsman Sorry, I misunderstood
@Sathya: Did I miss a new policy where moderators get to open questions by themselves? Not the first time I see this happen today, but I would love to get some explanation because the question doesn't make any sense in its current form...
The current answer might be what he is after but his question is written is such way that CTRL+A CTRL+C fits the bill.
MultiUpload
multiupload.com/B8VA5F2U4U

(Next entry here...)
Ah well, I haven't considered that it is possible to just have the broad general vision as a reason to keep it open.
But it's written in a vague way... :(
03:17
@TomWijsman mods have had binding close and reopen votes since ever. That question is a little vague, but I think people can get the idea of what he's trying to do. People are too quick to close posts sometimes when all they need is a bit of editing and TLC to make sense.
@nhinkle Makes sense. Moderation is necessary when the community cannot police themselves.
@nhinkle Well, there still is the VTR.
@TomWijsman what do you mean?
@nhinkle: Once such a question is corrected it can easily be reopened if needed.
I'm just saying that by doing so we are going to let a lot of questions where the user doesn't improve his question after we asked through...
@TomWijsman and that's exactly what was done here. Everyone should be happy. Sathya edited the post to make more sense, then reopened it. Pretty standard.
03:21
@nhinkle I fail to see how capitalization adds more sense to a post...
k well I edited it to make a bit more sense.
@TomWijsman I don't see why it was closed in the first place.
erf. I am not sure how i beat this browser into working here XD
Kick here X
@surfasb: Messing around with qtweb - Its a little oldschool, and i had to enable some cookies manually, and turn on HTML5 storage
03:30
Sounds like too much work just to surf LOLCATS
lol
lolcats are easy ;)
@JourneymanGeek True. No HTML5 storage
I need to load up a bunch of tabs to check memory usage, but this seems Light
it has it as an option, turned off by default
@surfasb The question has no notion of intention other than "copy all the links".
Which just starts you thinking with "Why do you want to select? How would you like to do it? What are you going to do with them?".
It's not a uncommon task.
03:32
Yeah, that's why you just select them and hit CTRL+C...
Trivial answer, but probably not what he wants. So he needs to specify more.
@Tom you have been a bit judgmental of people's questions lately. While it's important to make sure we filter out the bad questions, we don't want to drive people away by challenging everything that comes along. Asking for clarification is great, but getting dragged into extensive arguments isn't productive for anyone involved.
@TomWijsman I would agree that the answer is trivial, since more isn't specified. However, I don't think it is an invalid question, just because of brevity.
@nhinkle: It's because questions that are left unclarified are left on the site that extensive arguments form.
The vagueness results in debate about what is meant and what is looked for.
Without that specification, you ain't get an useful question.
There was a very clear question this morning about Hyper-V in which you were pretty confrontational. If somebody doesn't want to clarify, that's unfortunate, but being rude to them isn't going to improve the question.
@nhinkle That's a way different question and is irrelevant because this one was VTCed NARQ.
@nhinkle I wasn't asked for clarification from the OP in that case either.
03:36
What I'm saying is that in general, it would be appreciated if you would try to keep your comments a little more polite.
@nhinkle And he started being rude to me, I only wanted to stop the discussion at that point.
At which point he started throwing hot soup around; really, I'm not being impolite there...
Look, I'm not trying to put you down, I'm just saying that you often end up in very long, heated discussions with people that we then have to clean up. If you can accept that sometimes people are wrong - be it them or you - and just move on and let them be wrong, everyone would be much happier.
@nhinkle: Ignorance doesn't solve problems.
Yeah, and nor does harsh language.
@nhinkle That's why I had no further interest in that debate, but he insisted on continuing. That food party he started was really harsh...
03:44
Well, I digress. Just wanted to let you know that we've noticed this happening a lot, and that if you can do anything about it, it'd be appreciated. That's all, we can move on now.
'sup @SimonSheehan?
@nhinkle: Well, I'm a perfectionist. Or it could be seen as OCD otherwise. Whatever people prefer to call it...
@nhinkle not too much! Doing some photoshop and illustrator work today :p just finishing up. How about you?
Don't expect me to change when it really should be the other person. ;)
I'm good @SimonSheehan. Been doing some research for my bike lights project over on Bicycles
03:46
@nhinkle oh yeah, saw you talking about that the other day. I wish I could bike still but it's freezing up here :p
MOAR JACKETS
Welcome @Luke
Thanks @nhinkle. How's everyone doing? It's cold here for biking too
Was windy and -7C when I was driving today.
wow, that is chilly
-14 here. And 2 feet of snow since Friday morn
03:49
-6C tomorrow apparently :p
Currently -10
@nhinkle Remember that on the flip-side, I always try to act in good faith. Agreeing with a moderator which opinion was right (Diago), helping a question get to the right public because we ain't got any experts (Hyper-V) or avoiding vagueness / subjective questions that can lead to debates (this one, and others).
But that does mean they are making snow at the hill now
-14 earlier today. iPhone says 0 now
@Luke haha, funny enough I am talking from my iPod here and just used the pull down notifications to check weather ;)
@TomWijsman and I'm telling you that your acting in good faith is not coming across well sometimes. Just wanted you to know how others perceive it.
@SimonSheehan oh you iFans.... :P
03:51
Same
@nhinkle meant to ask you - are we getting those interview questions soon?
But I hate the slowness on my 3GS
Haha, iFans, that's a new one!
@SimonSheehan oh, yeah. Sorry... I forgot to finish that up. Will do it now!
@surfasb: about 300-400 mb memory use with 9 tabs. about 60 mb on starting with one or two tabs. Its a lot lighter than firefox.
03:52
@nhinkle it's fine :P don't worry about it! Just wondering since we talked about it a few days ago :p
@nhinkle Well, that's not really any welcoming at all. I guess that if that's what others think I don't have any purpose to be around here then?
I now take my iPod to school and go on SU all day..
@TomWijsman that's not what I'm trying to say. Your contributions are valuable, it would just be nice if you could try to keep the language a bit more mild in the comments. That is all I'm getting at.
@Simon what are you taking?
@JourneymanGeek My problem currently isn't memory consumption. It is currently trying to aggregate information onto my phone in a concise manner.
03:54
@Luke computer science, communication tech, fitness, math
And I need to learn to read faster.
I mean about the new browser and beating it into making SE chat working ;p
We got wifi in the school now, love it :D
@Simon better than me... Good luck. What's the most advanced thing you've learnt about how computers work?
03:56
@Luke uh... Can't say a whole lot :p it's kind of a wonky programming course. Communication tech is where I excell, with photoshop and video editing
@Luke simon's on his way to being an expert at everything
I take computer engineering next semester ;)
@nhinkle eventually ;)
@nhinkle: Respect goes both ways.
Nice. I gotta run for a bit guys, putting the baby to bed then cleaning up
I'll chat tomrrow
Cya later @Luke, take care
04:00
'night @Luke
Just figured out how to rejoin all rooms on mobile chat... Very handy
I still think there needs to be a nice little app... Eventually :p
@SimonSheehan: It's a sad thing that there is no button to rejoin all when one has two chat rooms tabs.
And the slow loading times of switching chat rooms just doesn't help a thing when using one chat room tab...
Heh. I normally just keep it there so I see pings
@TomWijsman yeah I've been annoyed by that too. I usually end up going to the main chat.se page and clicking rejoin all from there
Wow, I've typed 7k lines in this room alone. Not bad
04:05
@SimonSheehan I'm pretty sure 6-to-8 has chat support these days, but I could be wrong. Check stackapps and see if any do chat, I know at least one of the iPhone apps does
@nhinkle Yeah, but those are three clicks. Once to get there, once to rejoin all and once to refresh the other tab so it properly loads the messages... :(
@TomWijsman yup. Wish it were easier.
@nhinkle will do! One moment while I pop open that app store
Six to eight is mostly tracking users it seems... I'll check stack apps, thanks @nhinkle for the idea
@nhinkle Eh well, I'll watch my comments next time, if not I'll try a meta question for a community perspective on the debate and else I just leave the community once and for all. :/
@TomWijsman a meta question is definitely one option that would be good. Nobody's asking you to leave, but watching the comments would be appreciated. Thanks for understanding :)
04:11
@nhinkle The thing is that I don't understand it. I just need to get a definitive understandable why it is right or wrong on such things. It doesn't help if an opposing person denies me all the time without an understanding why he thinks that it is wrong when I'm pretty sure that it is right. (Or there wouldn't be a problem...)
I agree it can be frustrating when the other person doesn't want to give a good explanation and doesn't seem to get it. It happens to all of us, and can be difficult to handle.
Welcome to the Internet, really
Aw, someone down voted my answer at the last minute and I missed out on scooping up at +50, darn
awww @SimonSheehan
and that's not that cold :P (referring to your message earlier about weather)
@SimonSheehan Thank you, you are welcome too! And everyone else, of course... Except for those random trolls. :)
@Tom you're welcome, although I'm not sure what for since the mobile site lacks linking back! :p

Q: Can it be made easier to join all chats OR switch faster between chats?

Tom WijsmanOn my browser, I use the tabs that always load on start to join chat rooms. I usually have 2 - 3 of such tabs. Now when the browser is opened again after some time, I am in two chat rooms but not in all the others I was in before. This is where it gets tedious as I have to do at least three clic...

@studiohack it's cold when you go out and BBQ in -10C, in shorts, a t-shirt, and no shoes :p
@Tom up voted!
@SimonSheehan fair enough. but still warm.
I'm at the point where I think 0 C is warrrm!
Haha. Well normally for me, I think -15C is perfect. But today, I was cold!
@studiohack they're making snow at the hill near me now!
@SimonSheehan let's see... that's what in F? goes to Google
-5F... not bad
FLAG! goes to answer
@studiohack ^ there's the hill! Today!
04:27
@SimonSheehan wow nice
And now I'm off for today. I blame bad parties as well as two to three things a week that need to get finished for university for giving me a bad mood... :(
I love how it's actually called a "Snow gun"
I love snow guns!
I wonder how well edit history is being indexed... Better to be safe than sorry. :P
'night @TomWijsman - hope things get better for you soon
@nhinkle I haven't looked into detail, but I believe the second semester should be really chill.
04:29
Hope so!
here's to a more chill semester!
Ultimate chill semester just got more chill ;)
Now I would feel guilty for writing a small blog post instead of working on a project or homework, but on the other hand I'm wasting time on Stack Exchange anyway... :P
I have a day this week, Wednesday I think, where I get an entire class to just game
@SimonSheehan That looks nice. :D
04:31
@Tom opens Wednesday :D time to get the equipment ready
I stood outside in the snow, rain and heavy winds at 5 AM without a jacket (so, only a T shirt) in the morning some days ago.
lol
@SimonSheehan: If not for the lack of snow here, i can think of all sorts of mischief one can get into with one of those ;p
Well, there is the tendency that jackets and similar stuff get stolen at our student / fraternity party. :(
So, I don't take those with me anymore after they stole my jacket some years ago...
@Journeyman hahaha. Tempting ideas :p
@JourneymanGeek Indoor snow in [insert public building here]? :)
Seems the Gaming chat is having a fun time, seems one just has to start about gender-specific classes...
in The Bridge, 40 mins ago, by GnomeSlice
Gah, I hate games that do gender-specific classes like Torchlight.
04:38
@nhinkle will you be emailing the questions to me? I'm curious as to how this goes down
@SimonSheehan I'll send you a link to a google docs. Sorry, got off topic again
@SimonSheehan the weather is lovely in Canada, I hear
Procrastination energy has reached critical levels! Shutting myself down to prevent overheating...
@nhinkle Oh okay, sounds good!
@studiohack I emailed our dragon man, no response :/
04:40
@SimonSheehan all right thanks
@TomWijsman haha. Get some sleep! Or do some work, or whatever it is you're supposed to be doing.
Hes been on the meta site and regular site many times.... No responses
Makes me really wonder, but.. Oh well. It is what it is
@TomWijsman: or all over someone's car
Well my body is demanding rest. Cya all later!

5 hours later…
09:21
@TomWijsman yeah, it's called a mod flag.
09:59
@Sathya or @studiohack, how should superuser.com/questions/74971/… be charachterized?
also bob's answer
@soandos it could be an answer, it could be a comment, is a cross. either one works, sometimes I like to just convert it to comment...
leave it as it is, for flag for conversion to comment (linked one)
ditto for bob's
... and @studiohack ninja'd me
@Sathya again! :) I should leave you guys with more of the work
heh
@Sathya, in general, these things should be flags as not an answer even though they tangentally address the question?
10:01
work for you, @studiohack review/closed -> week
@soandos Honestly, I'd just leave it as it is, no flags since as you mentioned, it does work, though not a definitive answer
oh me? thanks! :P sure, but I'm not really even supposed to be here, just sorta watching/on standby - finishing a TV episode
@studiohack lol
lol, I know... :P
I was supposed to take a nap...
@Sathya, sorry, I thought you meant for me to flag for conversion...
10:04
4 mins ago, by Sathya
leave it as it is, for flag for conversion to comment (linked one)
choice between both..
preferred: leave it as it is.
secondary: It might get converted to comment, or not but I wouldn't deny the flag
ah, got it.
Thanks for the clarification
sure, np
What do do about it?
@soandos frivilous info, I'd edit it out
Got it.

6 hours later…

@surfasb If that was you who upvoted, thanks! :) ... some people annoy me in comments!
I was clicking the questions on the right side Related list.
@WilliamHilsum That comment was unjustified IMO.
Sorry, so tired! you mean you were browsing around and came to that from a related question or something?
@surfasb his original one or mine just there :/ sorry! (again, very tired!)
@WilliamHilsum Ya, the unjoin AD question. I saw it on the right when I was answering the Roaming profile question.
16:07
I've never seen a problem like this, which the user now figured out:

Q: How to catch a malware process on my Mac?

Sven SemmlerSituation: 1st occurrence: without reason a new draft in mail opened up with non-sense text in the body, no TO,CC or subject 2nd and reoccurring every day around 2 PM: bing search with non-sense text the text slightly changes but most of the time starts with "him him him him him ..." Hmm, is this an option I'm missing?

Q: Auto-Join Rooms

Chacha102It would be really helpful if I didn't have to manually join the rooms I'm interested in every time I launch chat. What I'd suggest is one of two mechanisms for auto-joining chat rooms. Auto-Join Favorites Make a setting so that you will automatically join rooms you mark as 'favorites'. Remembe...

Maybe the wrong room, but, is anyone here knowledgeable of Java/Eclipse? (I looked on SO, but, the Java chatroom seems rather empty!)
@WilliamHilsum: Why?
I'm writing a (small) C compiler in Java in Eclipse, so I think I could help you if it's for a set-up question...
@TomWijsman I have been learning Java/JSP for work, and, I just have a few questions that have been driving me mad... but... a bit too noobish for SO... even too noobish to add to my Sockpuppet account!... Maybe I should though!...
@TomWijsman wow... cool... want to take this to Fake Programmers so no one gets annoyed, or shall I just write here... not that much!...
Also, the Eclipse configuration can be PITA. :(
Yeah... Will never say anything bad about VS again!!!

5 hours later…
22:01
@WilliamHilsum I have some experience with java, but it has mostly made me complain about the language. Eclipse really drives me up the wall though
@soandos hehe, well, I am trying to learn it for work at the moment, and, I am finding problems all over! ... I will master it in the end!
I asked on SO and it looks like the specific problem I am having is Tomcat related, but, I have no clue on why/how/what e.t.c.
0
Q: Why is Eclipse's HTML viewer randomly showing previous output and an error?

William HilsumWell, this video shows my problem best : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDeChV254Ck&feature=youtu.be If I have a page that is proper/ok, everything works fine and as expected. If I purposely induce an error (which I have been doing loads of whilst learning!), Eclipse doesn't show an error a...

That's really odd
what version of eclipse?
@soandos Latest... I am really not an expert or know much at all... I downloaded the latest EE version of Eclipse and I also downloaded Tomcat from within Eclipse... so, guessing all latest stuff
22:26
Finally learning about clustering (data mining) right now, that algorithm is cool.
Place some random dots and center them such that the distances of the nearest objects do the dots are minimal.
Then those nearest objects form a cluster, and you have divided all objects into clusters.
And then, you learn the weaknesses of the algorithm... :(
@TomWijsman and what is that?
22:44
@soandos: Performs bad for things like differing shapes, differing sizes and differing density.
And well, it also depends on where the first random dots are placed.
@TomWijsman, what is it good for?
@soandos: If these were groups of people and I had an automatic robot that could throw preciesly, where should I throw my three tear gas grenades in order to be the most effective.
@TomWijsman sounds useful ;)
Or, one could let an user draw spray a lot of dots in a computer program. Then the program turns them into X armies and assign a leader in them (group them), then the dots (soldiers) walk to the leader (the dot closest to the random dot) and then the leaders decide what other group to fight.
And there are probably a ton of other examples. It just groups them and tries to find a middle...
@soandos For a completely different view on it:
@TomWijsman thanks.
23:03
Now learning about hierarchical trees.
One could for example take all the tags on Super User and try to put the tags into categories (based on them being used together or some other features).
operating-system has two children linux and windows, linux has multiple children like ubuntu, windows has windows-xp, windows-vista, windows7, and so on...
You don't need to have a tag operating-system for that, just name the leaves.
This one shows edit distances between words, another possibility.
Although that is barely of any use on tags as you can sort them alphabetically and look for similarly named tags... :P
But might be an interesting way to categorize questions and suggesting tags for them. Not that that is a real problem.
But well, this will be surely be useful for finding duplicate questions and for ever programming my rss/twitter aggregator (personal trending topics, categorization, google news like stuff and what not)...
Anyhow, back to homework. :D
I always get off-thoughts during interesting courses, hateful when all you need to do at that moment is study the course or make homework for it...
