So one pass with ddrescue completed, only 147MB out of 3 TB have "errors". It's just relooping through; can I stop it safely?

@CanadianLuke yep, ddrescue keeps track of its progress in the logfile so you can stop and restart it at will

You should let it finish, otherwise the results are inaccurate.

(147MB is 300,000 bad sectors. Most I've ever seen on a drive is 10,000)

Most I've ever seen on a still-working drive is 3,000.

So chances are it's just the preliminary, non-trimmed count

ddrescue is clever like that

It's on my backup server, so I'm not too worried, as long as some critical files for the os is ok. It's the entire /var partition
