So one pass with ddrescue completed, only 147MB out of 3 TB have "errors". It's just relooping through; can I stop it safely?
@CanadianLuke yep, ddrescue keeps track of its progress in the logfile so you can stop and restart it at will
@CanadianLuke 147MB is a huge amount
You should let it finish, otherwise the results are inaccurate.
(147MB is 300,000 bad sectors. Most I've ever seen on a drive is 10,000)
Most I've ever seen on a still-working drive is 3,000.
So chances are it's just the preliminary, non-trimmed count
ddrescue is clever like that

It's on my backup server, so I'm not too worried, as long as some critical files for the os is ok. It's the entire /var partition

Just a thought: If China and Singapore are so strict about drug trafficking (automatic death penalty), why can't the US do something similar?
25 to life for drug trafficking, no ifs, ands, or buts.

@PatoSáinz same as --status; it prints out package metadata

@bwDraco What happens if I forgot to take that one single joint out of my bag when I crossed the state border?
There would be an exception for that case; it would be similar to the peaceable journey provisions that exist for moving guns across state borders.
03:19
Okay. Let's talk about racism.
Why are Blacks and Hispanics still at a consistent disadvantage compared to Whites or especially Asians?
I'm of pure Chinese blood but this is absolutely unfair.
Anonymous
@bwDraco in what areas? (whitish "spic" here)
Income, for example. Blacks continue to earn considerably less than Whites.

also wow you don't fail to propose interesting topics for RA haha
Educational attainment is often lower.
Why? Everyone deserves a fair chance in society.
Anonymous
are your stats global or US-only, also, source?
03:22
Primarily US.
@bwDraco Not everyone works equally hard.
Something tells me African Americans are caught in a vicious cycle where low income limits educational attainment and prevents them from moving up.
There are plenty of poor white Americans.

@bwDraco well the state could help solve those problems but look at how long it took to get Obamacare going

@MichaelFrank "won't let"?

@MichaelFrank you should tell her that just cause she's a watery tart, that does not make her queen. Also help help I am being oppressed.

@StuperUser the big issue I see is, this is something trivially searchable
11:23
@StuperUser It's on topic, but a bit of a broad question.
USB, short for Universal Serial Bus, is an industry standard developed in the mid-1990s that defines the cables, connectors and communications protocols used in a bus for connection, communication, and power supply between computers and electronic devices. It is currently developed by the USB Implementers Forum. USB was designed to standardize the connection of computer peripherals (including keyboards, pointing devices, digital cameras, printers, portable media players, disk drives and network adapters) to personal computers, both to communicate and to supply electric power. It has become ...
Should have all the info you need to answer it yourself ;) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB
Also, you want a good c-c cable
with appropriate adaptors ;p
wtf is this folder?
Based on "Adapters and cables with a Type-C receptacle are not allowed.", I'm not going to be able to get a C(f)-A(m) adapter or a C(f)-mini(m) adapter?

Why does it have copies of all kinds of files it shouldn't have copies of?

Brilliant, thanks @DavidPostill I'll do some research on there and write up what I find on using a single cable and adapters, if the question stays open.

I came here to ask why is Google offline for us at work.
Everyone gets a proxy error message when trying to open google
Cue lots of angry users (except those who think Chrome is Google)
@qasdfdsaq heres one search for the word askew
So I remote into our proxy / firewall server and get this:
> [2.1.5-RELEASE][root@pfsense.<domain>.com.br]/root(6): ping radiohead.com

So I set my own PC to use the proxy too (cuz we IT no need dem proxies)

@ThatBrazilianGuy If you're talking HTTP proxy, ping doesn't go through that.
@ThatBrazilianGuy That... doens't change anything
"Operation not permitted" indicates traffic being blocked locally on the machine
Besides, it started working again the moment I started troubleshooting it. HEISENBUG!
One specific IP works, the rest don't.
@Bob I remoted into the server which runs the proxy and the firewall. From there, I couldn't ping google from the command line. Then I set my own PC to use the proxy (it wasn't using the proxy, but google was timing out). Then I pressed F5. Then google opened. Then I tried ping google thru the server CLI. It worked.

What kind of camera do they use here? Can't be GoPro?
Whee. My windows 7 DVD arrived (or rather, some disk to trash and a valid CoA)
@Hennes I thought you couldn't get a win7 DVD anymore... :/
Amazon.de.... Same source as I got them before
All I need is the CoA to activate win7 prof.
Then test a bit (e.g. run an up to date graphics benchmark)
and then upgrade to win10
That was the old PCmark whose installer I had saved
Will rerun that when win10 is installed to see if it really is faster
And afterward will retry with a AMD5870 installed
(temporarily, this is more a play with and test with box, not a gaming box)
I like windows 7 best out of all Windows versions ever released...
What does that do?
I rarely work from a keyboard with a windows key, so I do not have all of those memorized.
16:42
@RahulBasu ScreenshotCapture beats anything built-in to Windows 7: donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor ;)

@Bob What's happening this weekend? Why wasn't I invited? O-0
Damn Google. I've never made a credit card purchase using Google, but somehow they had my CC details and address under "payments" on my Google account :/
haven't even made a purchase on Google Play?
The only thing I can think of is I bought extra bandwidth from EE using my mobile ...
No, I don't use Google play.
Anyway, it's now deleted. Let see what happens next time I need to buy something ;)
I should really start using Python more than just plain Bash all hte time
Google payments shows "No transactions to show yet."
17:21
@DavidPostill how do you not use Google Play??
FireOS? Symbian?
or maybe that new hip thing...
ios?
@RahulBasu I only use it indirectly to update (free) apps. I haven't paid for any apps and I don't play any games (that may require in app purchases). I've never added my CC card details on my mobile. I always make purchases from my PC.
Ohh....

@Bob I'm not sure if there is any strict definition of what constitutes a blizzard, but generally speaking, if it is considered a blizzard, schools are closed, power is lost in fairly large areas (due to icicles bringing down power lines, wind, etc), and only All Wheel Drive vehicles can make it to work
