I haven't posted any answers since I got my new camera

I'm still spending some time reviewing posts, though not as much.

@DragonLord One pass is not enough.

I've seen memtest runs find errors on the 20th pass.

@DragonLord Memory corruption could result in literally any type of error available.

It can do anything.

You can no longer trust that 1 == 1.

I've done this in the past overnight without any errors.

6 passes if I'm not mistaken.

Now, the typical response to memory corruption tends to be all manner of random errors, though it's not impossible that it impacts a specific piece of kernel/driver code... especially with shared graphics memory.

I would be surprised if the memory develops errors over time, but I might consider running a more extensive memory test while I'm away from home.

@DragonLord You should just set it to perform a complete memory dump and see what that analysis tells you.

Probably the easiest way to go from here.

@DragonLord Rare, but it does happen. I had two sticks replaced about 1.5 years in.

(Those would end up reporting errors on the 10th pass, on average. Sometimes 1st, 4th, 15th... etc. Tested over several nights.)

Stock RAM is 2x4GB Super Talent, with 2x8GB G.SKILL added as an aftermarket upgrade.

Total 24GB.

Same speed memory, DDR3-1600.

So the right most 2 GBIC/SFP ports are a combo port with the RJ45 next to them. But what about the other RJ45 group next to it? Why is it separate from the rest? I don't get it

@Bob I've never had issues with my bandwidth being throttled, but then again, I keep most things under the radar. They don't throttle me for using OpenVPN server.

if you encrypt the storage layer and the network layer, they'd have to violate international laws to decrypt your data/traffic to tell if you're using a "seedbox"

credit card sized, and useful for identity and birthdate verification, but can't be used on its own to cross an international border

How do they fare with regards to motion blur? Almost every pic I take will be of a human "in motion", not stationary scenes.

@allquixotic Reasonably well—when possible, they'll raise the shutter speed as appropriate. Image stabilization has also come a long way.

The most extreme examples are the super-telephoto fixed focal length lenses.

If you've never witnessed one yourself, I can say that they are enormous

Most DSLR cameras less than $2000 use an APS-C sensor, approximately 24x16mm.

I managed to procure a headset from Sennheiser that's pretty much what the sportscasters use when they talk "live" to people down on the field - I like having professional hardware ;p

High-end models use full-frame sensors that are the size of a frame of 35mm film, 36x24mm.

There's also mirrorless system cameras which eliminate the reflex mirror in DSLR cameras and are much smaller. The most common models have sensors that range from 13.2x8.8mm to full frame.

Many are Four Thirds sized, with a sensor size of 17.3x13mm.

I'm probably in the market for a smallish DSLR - not really a photography enthusiast, just looking to take pics that are "good enough" for memories, posting stuff online, etc

Keep in mind that you're buying into a system: each manufacturer has its own set of lenses and accessories that won't work on other camera brands.

Be sure to do your research. Photography is a huge subject...

I'm not extremely well-read on it. I took an optics course in college, and I've used plenty of embarrassingly horrible phone cameras and one or two mid-2000s digital cameras (not DSLRs though), and I've never really taken a great photograph of anything ;p

need to find something that is more or less point and shoot, can do decent video or photo (though I mostly care about photos), with great daytime shooting and zoom

I'd just recommend the Coolpix P610.

Buying into a camera system is a huge investment that extends far beyond the initial camera body and kit lens.

It's probably best to stick with a compact for the time being.

@allquixotic Maybe give the 2015 Superzoom Roundup a once over. They're generally the camera you want if you need something with a good zoom, but don't want to get into an actual DSLR.
