how would I go about getting typing cygwin have the same functionality as typing cmd into the address bar?
maybe you have to restart to get it to run from the start menu
it works for me
oh is adding path a restart needed thing?
for the start menu, I don't know, maybe
For a cmd prompt, no
a quicker thing to try is.. end task explorer and restart explorer
how would I do that?
You usually need to log in and out, or start a new session
Iirc
14:02
ctrl-shift-escape opens task manager
google how to end task explorer.exe it's pretty standard
will it autorestart when I kill it?
no
people have been doing it for 20 years.
just google about end task explorer.exe
and it says how to start a new explorer.exe
with pictures too
or just restart it or log out and back in
i see it let me try this
I have Sublime associated with TXT files.. But i'm getting the problem opening files when there's a space, from start..run So I want to find the place where the parameter is and put quotes around it. But I van't find it!!
I know that's a basic question but I can't see it.. Anybody know where it is?
yea so i killed/restarted explorer, no dice
ill try restarting
14:05
try logging out and in first
that's quicker
And why did you install cygwin to R:\ ? And it's more standard in windwos to use backslash not forwardslash though windows can apparently use forwardslash
@HackToHell why Boo cygwin? it's awesome
it's like a miracle program
i installed to R cuz my C is almost full
even tho cygwin's pretty small i don't have much space
@ROODAY If it still doesn't work, try copy c:\windows\system32\calc.exe to r:\cygwin call it calc2 see if it runs calc2.exe Experiment with the PATH put calc2.exe in other directories. Maybe your PATH variable is messed up. This doesn't look like a cygwin issue.
@barlop ugg been a while, but it is something like this superuser.com/questions/407779/… So you go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\txtfile\shell\open\command somewhere like this, and put "%1" instead of %1 ?
just to clarify tho
is this a proper looking path variable:
its under user variables: variable = cygwin, value = R:\cygwin
@Psycogeek weird thing is that path lists notepad but my association is sublime
14:17
@barlop yea classes are a bloody mess, you know how to find the right item, as far as the quotes i donnot if it is going to work.
@ROODAY doesn't sound right
in the 7 system defaults changed by users are in some other mess. So search the program itself? or program %1?
just use system path
var=path and append cygwin to it
The system is supposed to handle spaces now , i still avoid the use of them in my stuff.
@Psycogeek even the run dialog box?
is supposed to handle spaces?
14:25
here, one program put itself in like that , this is in the users shell open "C:\Audio\GoldWave\GoldWave.exe" "%1" soo it looks proper enough?
@Psycogeek Good you didn't tell "computers brake into them"...
@barlop it was one of the things they addressed ? oh maybey in the search not the run? I donno I do not type stuff, i only look at the pictures :-)
I don't know 'cos it doesn't even mention sublime for txt file in the registry there for some reason
in the regulsr start search box the files get listed as you type then you choose the file from there.. so there's no issue with that
but run is good 'cos it has a history
@barlop well txt there is a whole load of different ones, then you probably changed it only at the user level? so it should hang out somewhere in the users class junk?
i appended R:\cygwin to the path, no dice
ill try restarting
14:32
easiest to just search the registry for sublime.exe pass up the other 5 things that do not apply, and find the open thing ?
@Psycogeek searching now found a path in the regustry with 'users' but it has quotes
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-39771273-4062837575-3865552575-1000\Software\Classes\Applica‌tions\sublime_text.exe\shell\open\command
i'll keep going through
that is probably it.
but it has quotes
so i guess the answer is, use spaces in CmD prompt and you gotta stick in quotes?
well i'm trying from the run dialog box. It works no quotes in XP
not 7
14:38
de spaces worked here, i tell ya they fixed it :-) i need more stuff to test, amazing how few things had spaces
like i can CD to program files , back a few OSes that would fail
nope, it did not work without quotes and the extention was required too.
that was on the CMD prompt, the "recent" came up in run and it did work with the space
and again, in the RUN item, calling up a movie m:\i foobar.avi shot it off to the video player i have defaulted for it.
oh heck why am i typing a file name , there is a Browse in run , who put that there :-)
the browse put proper quotes around that one. but it worked without quotes, to play a .wav file with spaces to the windows media player.
@barlop I find it cubersome
I prefer booting up a linux vm
type in linux , use GUI in windows
14:57
o0
The tickets are fucking expensive
consistant, in CMD prompt window must use proper quotes. In Run window anything goes :-)
I think there is a little guy back in there typing in %20 when he sees spaces ?
in a mac use i-tunes :-)

@Boris_yo in america they still go Old School "Jacksonville, Florida, employees at a Synovus Bank branch arrived to discover a bizarre scene. A 10,000-pound variable reach forklift was lodged in the building's drive-through ATM. Apparently the ATM had sustained damage overnight from repeated attempts to crash it open." news.yahoo.com/blogs/odd-news/…
they just wait till you get the money out, then steal it.
15:42
hi does anyone have an idea regarding i tuness
i wanted to know whether the songs in ipod would remain even if i connect the ipod to another system through itunes
or would they get erased with the new playlist
16:06
@HackToHell @Bob is correct; I got a second GPU (a R9 280X, which is the same chip as the 7970, but clocked higher and with a different cooler design) for Star Citizen.
Oh well then you wouldn't have any problems running that and it's f2p !
Please go there and ask your question.

@allquixotic Have you had a chance to try Win10 yet?
It's... very close to Win8.1
No mention of WDDM 2.0 either :(
Considering a preview is out, we're probably not going to see it. Isn't the tech preview supposed to have a feature-locked kernel?

@RobinHood 'sif not use the built in image uploader!

what does "sif" mean. I googled it, and urban dictionary says "Secret Internet Fatty".
I always forget the [at username] when I reply. @MichaelFrank
