how many milliseconds after the taking of that picture did he you bark?
Well, I have a freelancing quote to write. Bye.
@ThatBrazilianGuy good luck! ~follow your dreams~ </cheesy>
(the ~s are for "wispy dreamy freethinky vibes")
@allquixotic: naw, that's the "Oliver Twist"
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I asked for you.
> Yes, there will be a new on-ear flagship later this year (hopefully November). The goal is to have one Hi-Fi wireless model in each category - over-ear, on-ear, and in-ear, so you can expect the on-ear to have better-quality components than the current AF32, along with aptX/AAC support and wired input, like the Matrix2 :).
@Bob @_____@
that's awesome!
that is. fantastic. thank you!
hopefully it also has comparable battery life!
I'll probably hold off on the Sennheisers and see (1) how expensive, and (2) how good, the new on-ears turn out to be.
later this year can't be that long -- November / December is perfect for a cheap Christmas gift if they're like $100
I didn't know they'd be that responsive though, nor to actually detail upcoming products...
my thought would be that they would either ignore the email or provide a pre-canned "we don't talk about unreleased products" statement.
Bob
Bob
00:04
They talk quite a lot about their plans in that thread :P
that's cool!
hmm. Sennheiser must be the slow, plodding giant of headphones. a decade goes by and the only thing that changes is the length of The Senior Engineer's beard (and its color and amount of dandruff). yes, he creates absolutely state of the art products -- when he does -- but the rest of the time is spent eating pretzels and drinking at bierhausen.
MEE wants some o' their business ;p
@allquixotic there, installed @OliverSalzburg's extension. If I can remember to use it, it should make things neater ;p
@allquixotic: Then what's grado? ;p
@JourneymanGeek yay
Other than the state of the art products I guess
@JourneymanGeek I don't know what Grado is.
00:09
(Grado is the old unix engineer who will not let go of his old sun workstation)
lol. oh.
@JourneymanGeek They basically are a company that buy drivers off one guy in a home workshop, test them, and make and build headphones in a townhouse in new york.
they are purportedly "hand-made"
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic no issuer chain O_O
00:12
@Bob meh
@Bob I didn't get that error for some reason. maybe stunnel :P
Bob
Bob
> Symantec Class 3 EV SSL SGC CA - G2
uh
no, no, it's not stunnel, because all crypto is end to end
it doesn't MITM HTTPS
Bob
Bob

00:17
they probably don't care if it's "Just Open Source"
Tim "Less Reality Distortion Field and More Profiteering" Cook: "Make me care."
seriously, Apple hasn't done anything remotely risky since Jobs died... now they just keep trotting out baby step after baby step based on what they already know will work
did you hear? the iPhone 6 is rumored to add NFC support! :O
A few years late, but hey.
the first iPhone's hardware was very high-end for its time; now iPhones and iPads are low-end.
Bob
Bob
well, there is this field
> Not Critical
OCSP: URI: http://su.symcd.com
CA Issuers: URI: http://su.symcb.com/su.crt
(authority information access)
but FF doesn't use it, apparently
not sure if chrome does
> The common sense in the past was, it's not a client bug, but a server
misconfiguration. The server is expected to include all intermediate
certificates required to chain up to the trusted root.
well Chrome doesn't trigger any warnings, so I guess Chrome is more permissive than FF
!! s/permissive/insecure/
@allquixotic well Chrome doesn't trigger any warnings, so I guess Chrome is more insecure than FF (source)
Bob
Bob
> Let me be very clear about this. With respect to https (SSL/TLS) servers'
certificates this is NOT A BUG. RFC 2246 requires SSL/TLS servers to send
a complete cert chain. SSL/TLS servers that do not send a complete cert
chain are not in conformance with RFC 2246. Nothing in RFC 3280 relieves
an https server of its obligation to send a complete cert chain. This
complaint is not an exploitable security flaw, and hence does not qualify
for a bug bounty.
@allquixotic Chrome uses the Windows APIs (CryptoAPI), IIRC.
Firefox uses its own (NSS)
00:35
yep.
Bob
Bob
> AFAICT, libpkix supports this. When we switch to libpkix for all cert chain validation, we need to decide if we want this feature, which is good for IE parity but bad for privacy.
o.O
> good for IE parity but bad for privacy
not a hard decision
also @HackToHell -- GateOne >>>>> Mosh. fyi ;p
BRB guys
00:49
@allquixotic: kinda sorta
suspects mosh will be a well supported, standard thing in a few years
Bob
Bob
01:12
@allquixotic More great news:
> Yes, long battery life is one of our goals for all new on- and over-ear headphones. I've been getting over 30 hours with the prototype so it will probably be rated at 24 or so when it is released.
@JourneymanGeek They'd at least need a Windows client first...
@Bob: yeah
or get integrated into putty or some fork of it
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek There's one that I can find, a plugin for mobaxterm
01:32
@Bob: and their recommended one is a chrome extension, of all things
Bob
Bob
ewwww
01:45
@Bob WOW :D
I've never seen a company be so open about upcoming products
imagine if Boon-Keun Yeun were letting his engineers say stuff like "yeah, we're testing the Galaxy S6 now, and we're seeing something like 33% better battery life on Android "L", and we're working on the bluetooth bug for the first release" o_O
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I suppose it helps that they're fairly small. Don't have to go through mountains of bureaucracy, lawyers, marketing departments, etc. :P
02:02
@Bob yeah
Eh, this is what I love about SU
I posted an answer tying together bits of stuff I sort of knew ;p
(ironically, while looking up an answer to another question which turned out to be a dupe)
02:27
@Braiam nice :D
just pretend that their site's URL says http and you will get exactly what you expect
02:52
@allquixotic since long ago I only do ro operations
;)
@Braiam fus ro dah?
03:18
I gotta be honest - this sounds absolutely dreadful. But then, I don't get Twitch either. Anyway, if you like this idea, check out the Stack Overflow rap. — Shog9 ♦ 2 days ago
04:16
@JourneymanGeek Check your Steam, pup!
04:52
@allquixotic:eheh. Thanks ;p
(was out. Walkies ;p)
@JourneymanGeek I got that game specifically because the main character is a dog
also, it looks to be a platformer with a really in-depth story, and amazing animations and cutscenes
TotalBiscuit didn't like it, but that's because he hates platformers
hoping that you (and your dog) enjoy it :P but don't feel obligated to play every nook and cranny if you don't.
I bought it for myself too, so we'll see
Perfect excuse to break out my orbweaver
orbweaver?
04:55
@allquixotic: Razer's mechanical nostromo
Its SUPER comfy and awesome but you usually end up customising it per game
I last used it for the batman games
looks neat
It is
but you generally play a game, then have to work out what's the 'right' layout for it
The graphics look blown up 80sish ;p
05:19
:D
05:44
@allquixotic looks interesting.
@Bob Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note Edge? is there any disadvantage to the Note Edge, or is it literally the Note 4 plus the edge-thing?
0_0
that's an odd phone design
tho I guess they're having trouble differenciating themselves ;p

1 hour later…
Bob
Bob
06:58
@allquixotic Never heard of the Edge...
> The Galaxy Note 4 is the "vanilla" version of the handset, and there's a limited edition called the Galaxy Note Edge that's identical save for a small curve on the right hand edge of the display.
but gsmarena says the edge has a slightly lower clocked CPU...
Thats cute
someone tried to embed a spam link inside what was almost an acceptable answer.
07:16
@Bob that's stupid >_<
Hi Journeyman
I liked one of your answers, so I stalked you to your chatroom.
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic not sure if it's accurate
other sources say 'identical'
@Bob although I take any CPU info with a grain of salt when talking about Samsung smartphones -- historically, they use Qualcomm SoCs for their Verizon and AT&T branded phones, but they use their Exynos SoCs for the rest of the world.
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic s/rest of the world/rest of the world excluding Australia/
we get Qualcomm too...
also, the gsmarena info is 2.7 GHz Kraits vs 2.5 GHz kraits
I do a lot of smartphone repair work... I hate samsung with an unrivaled passion.
07:19
heh. those of us getting Qualcomm will be getting a completely different experience, in terms of GPU, CPU, perf (though it may be similar it won't be identical), driver implementations, auxiliary chips, etc. all being switched out... it's like two separate phones!
same chassis, same battery, same software except drivers, everything else - different ;p
Bob
Bob
@TardisGuy Which phones would you consider the most repairable?
I've taken my S2 apart quite a few times... wasn't too bad
No glue, at least :P
@Bob - Not really a question of what "specific ones" as much as > Any smartphone that uses an LCD display, and not an LED display (IE: OLED, SOLED, AMOLED, etc...)
They can't be serious. Nobody would that that stuff.

Q: Why is Data so "unique", anyway?

gd1Can you explain me why is Data supposed to be so "unique", with this concept being repeated several times in TNG episodes? Even in TNG, Data seems to me quite an outdated piece of technology for his time. Enterprise's main computer could generate an intelligent being in the blink of an eye (holo...

@TardisGuy What's so hard about working with non-LCD displays?
@Bob if I had to pick brands off the top iof my head... probably... HTC after the Droid DNA, LG after the G2 and... really those two.
Bob
Bob
07:22
Hm.
@Bob Kraits? but those are Qualcomm! :< so if the rumors are accurate, that kinda sucks :(
I wonder if the Edge will be waterproof or water resistant... if it IS, I'll probably spring for it
Bob
Bob
Well, I'd pretty much avoid HTC just 'cause Beats (bad history there...)
@allquixotic There's an Exynos version, but no more info than a model number
"Beats" is a word like "Nazi" in Bob's vocabulary
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Heh, I thought you hated Samsung? :P
It might get Android L in 2020
@Bob Non LCD displays are usually LED displays, which 1) they burn in, and some of the lights dim on the screen, 2) The glass is usually "superglued" to the LED/Digitizer assembly 3) That process is messy if you dont have 2500$ equipment
07:24
@allquixotic Bob's? Not Dr. Dre's?
Bob
Bob
@TardisGuy Yea, my S2 had some heavy burn-in around the notification bar and Opera's menu bar :P
Never knew about the glue, though. Haven't gotten as far as taking a screen apart yet.
@Bob You shouldnt hate on HTC even for Beats (which i could care less for), they do make arguably the best phones on the market.
Bob
Bob
@TardisGuy Eh, everyone has their opinion of what's best.
I've used Samsung for my last two phones, but I can find a whole bunch of complaints about just about every brand.
Next one might be different.
@Bob - Oh, I know. Thats why I said arguably. But when it comes to benchmarks vs Repairability and Flashability...

HTC is up there.
Bob
Bob
My bank only supports NFC payments with Samsung, unfortunately. Apart from that, I rather like the menu and softkey design.
That's about all.
07:29
@Bob thats strange. They have a samsung proprietary system?
@Bob I'll probably wait until Moto shoots their wad for Q4 2014 before I purchase anything. if Moto looks better, I'll get theirs. They are definitely taking their sweet time announcing shit though
Bob
Bob
@TardisGuy Android didn't have a NFC API until recently.
@allquixotic - Though, I do own quite a few phones; my "Flagship" or Constant personal phone is the Mototola/Google Moto X
Bob
Bob
A bunch of apps built NFC support around Samsung's one.
@Bob - NFC is on most of the newer phones now. HTC, Motorola, LG... umm... hmm...
Bob
Bob
07:36
Yes, but my bank's app still doesn't use the Android standard APIs yet.
Drawin a blank Bob. Begins with an S, but my brains screaming "no, dont remember, you cant endure the trauma-" and oh thats right Samsung...
heya @TardisGuy
@Bob - You can make any NFC phone use whatever app your bank uses. Promise. So long as the bootloaders unlockable, even though you probably wont need to do that much
Sup J
Bob
Bob
Oh yea, the removable battery and MicroSD support. Can't believe I forgot those.
@TardisGuy And I promise that you can't.
@TardisGuy: in general phones arn't designed to be repairable
07:38
Sounds like a dare @Bob ...
and oh, since you're here
@TardisGuy: stores.ebay.com/njytouch these guys are apparently pretty good if you want to pick up the hardware to rig up a laptop LCD screen to a desktop or such
@journeymanGeek - Youre right, sure. But the... whats the word... "Catch 22" is they are designed to be rapidly assembled by humans. Thus they are intrinsically possible to repair.
I wouldn't get their kits with the screen though, I ordered one considerably cheaper off dx ahh, theirs are 1080p, but for the driver board, that's a good starting point
@JourneymanGeek, Yeah I was looking up LCD inverters a while back; but I wanted to understand, not just do...
@TardisGuy: you may not want an inverter with a modern screen
inverter + led backlight...
07:42
hmm...
Might have fallen into general misnomers, Like everyone calls the OLEDS and LCDs all LCDs
Basically [Something that translates the video] and [something that lights it up]
or LED screens, when they mean a TN LCD screen with a LED backlight
(or an IPS LED screen with....)
ayeaye, yeah. Me + Names of things = [Blank]
I only remember when they are in front of me.
lol
I have a monitor I've been fixing over the last 6 months
07:46
This ebay store does have alot of nice tinker grade stuffs
is it a CRT?
2 boards, logic board is fine, power board is mucked up
Did you plug in the wrong adapter?
Right now I have image and no power
naw, it is just horribly badly made.
07:47
haha
I have 2 19 inch LCD monitors rotting under my "Workbench"
old, cheap 4:3 benq. I think I need to test some of the transitors next.
One, no clue. The other I fried by accident.
but replacing them will be a pain, even if there's a reasonable chance I know a place that I can get em
Any particular reason you felt the need to slowly repair an old 4x3 monitor?
Windows Phone SDK 8 will work only from Windows 8 -_-
07:49
I need the 4:3 for an even older, unusual system that dosen't do wide screen
@HackToHell - www.virtualbox.org
That will be a very bad idea.
(but then again, I have a 20 inch main screen, and a 10.1 inch secondary screen in the mail)
My computer isn't powerful enough.
@JourneymanGeek - How old, what is it?
07:51
@HackToHell: I ran windows 7 on my old atom ;p
And the emulator apparently uses Hyper V
@TardisGuy: SGI octane.
And the base model.
@HackToHell: might be why it needs windows 8
@JourneymanGeek I don't have enough ram
@JourneymanGeek That's the reason :|
ow
(the atom had 2. ANY modern box would have at least 4)
And also only 64 bit version of it
07:52
@HackToHell - The... presumably ARM emulator is running in A VT-D/AMD-V hypervisor...?
@TardisGuy: not too likely
VT-D is rare
I have just 3 gigs of RAM and usually only 800-900 mb is free
My desktop has it, and I intentionally got the second best mainstream processor I could, (and the best, and third best don't have it ;p)
@HackToHell 0_0
MS Hyper-v eats the Virtualization, so you cant use Virtualbox or VMware when its on.
I'll have to assign atleast 1 gigs to Windows 8 (in Virtual Box)
And the Windows phone emulator probably needs a lot of ram
@JourneymanGeek 32 bit :(
07:54
@HackToHell , what CPU?
I have 4 gigs but I can use only 3 :|
@HackToHell: ram usage is pretty heavy ;p
@JourneymanGeek Windows 7 uses a lot :(
@HackToHell: ._.
I've used it on one gig
Better processor than the atom tho
07:56
@Hacktohell what processor are you using?
@TardisGuy Athlon X2
Damn this spotify
Ah
I had one of those, no thats fine...
It's ooooollld
Heres what you do...
@HackToHell: I'm essentually using less than a quarter of my ram ;p
07:57
Wipe windows 7 and install a 64 bit os ?
(though its not as bad as my linux boxen)
Get VMware (however you want) install Windows 8/8.1 "Core" edition with 1gb of ram...
@JourneymanGeek You have 32 gigs ?
That's ..... a LOT
@TardisGuy It will get too laggy
07:58
@TardisGuy i5 2400K
@HackToHell: my 'server' uses 127mb of 2gb.
Dosen't even look at the pagefile
@HackToHell yeah and i just realized HyperV wouldnt work in it anyways - crap...
@MichaelFrank Whats up?
> Windows Phone SDK 8.0 requires 64-bit Windows 8 Pro or higher. You can't develop Windows Phone 8 apps on Windows 7, on Windows Server 2008, or on Windows Server 2012.
Doesn't even work on normal Windows 8
08:00
@HackToHell: the no windows server part is slightly annoying. Would be trivial for a student to get a copy ;p
@HackToHell: I think hyper V is a pro feature
Hold on @JourneyManGeek let me download that software and ill paste mine...
Anti-Virus? whats that?
@JourneymanGeek Someone could find out if you haven't patched a vuln and expoit it
It displays too much info ;p
@HackToHell: unless its a zero day, not likely
0
A: Why is Data so "unique", anyway?

allquixoticOne thing that is not mentioned elsewhere in the answers so far is that Data does not have any apparent power source. In no Star Trek film or television is Data ever shown to be receiving power from an external source in order to recharge some energy storage device. If we assume by Occam's Razor ...

@JourneymanGeek Basically I can't use it unless I pirate Windows 8 -_-
08:05
@HackToHell - Meh, not likely. My ports and locked up tighter than a...
hmm
@HackToHell: which sucks
I should have upgraded 7 to 8 when they did that 15$ thingy
Im afraid any metaphore finishing that sentence would not be appropreate for children under 60
So uhh... Chat works... but the rest of my internet is coming up with DNS errors. o.O
08:05
or gotten a media center key, and used that on a trial, which supposedly worked
@MichaelFrank: maybe chat was cached?
@JourneymanGeek Perhaps.
and blah
I want to set up an IRC server again
@JourneymanGeek Here you go http://speccy.piriform.com/results/aGCI63GCSs6FLk2Va36zSuy

Thats mine
Interesting choice of monitors
Audiophile alert : ASUS Xonar DG Audio Device
08:07
XD
@HackToHell: or he needs 5.1 and its not on the board
@JourneyManGeek My Monitors include a 24 inch LCD Television, 80$ clearance item. The second a 19inch LCD television (also clearance 40$)

Theres actually a 3rd thats not plugged in right now...
but its a Motorola Bionic Lapdock that I use as a mini KVM switch into Virtualmachines
08:13
0_0
yeah.
Thats an interesting piece of hardware
I can plug it into any computer and it becomes the Monitor, Mouse and keyboard for it.
Got 2 of em.
08:16
I can see why it would be useful
fuck imported my dad's vcf file into Google Contacts
Oh it is handy. Sadly, I can only use it as a Smartphone - 'LapDock' on smartphones with an HDMI as well as a USB
Now I have 800 contacts ._.
@HacktoHell I actually have 4 soundcards in my machine: the Xonar, an older SB Audigy, an inboard Realtek and a USB SB X-FI "go pro"
08:20
@TardisGuy: 0_0
hm, I'd guess the audigy has traditional midi ports?
I use the Xonar for ASIO. and it and the Realtech are spliced into the Line In on the Audigy
Thats an odd setup
Nah, its first gen 24bit
The midi was in a controller board you had to buy seperate
ASIO for playback, or recording?
Playback for a Piano VST
08:22
ahh
(I used to use ASIO with an external sound card to play music ;p)
was a pain to set up, and won't work with more modern systems I suspect
@Hacktohell you Have an athlon II X2. A Regor... that thing will overclock HARD
Ill bet you could take that from 2.8 ghz to 3.3 on the stock cooler.
@Journeyman , Ive actually never output MP3s to an ASIO bus before..
@TardisGuy: with the right setup, foobar2000 would let you do it
no point doing it with mp3s, and with modern systems, there's better ways of doing bit perfect playback
Why would you want to tho?
@TardisGuy Yep been to 3.2 Ghz
Subjectively? With good quality audio and a good setup, it sounds better
08:27
It gets too hot though
I live in India and the room temp is 30-35C
Fucking hell that vcf isn't my dads
@HackToHell if you want to go the cheap route, get a... Tornado? Cooler from Ebay for like 20 bucks, and youll pass 3.7 without a problem
@TardisGuy But the performance gain isn't worth 20 bucks
Bleh I need to purge google contacts
PSA to future me, don't fucking import random vcfs from the HDD
Psh, @Hacktohell its either 20$ cooler, or 70$ chip for the board, or new board (30$) with new chip (50 - 90 )
@HackToHell , yeah- I dont know any tricks for contact removal en mass. Never ran into the question
The Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), also known as a sound cannon, is an acoustic hailing device and sonic weapon developed by LRAD Corporation to send messages, warnings, and harmful, pain inducing tones over longer distances than normal loudspeakers. LRAD systems have been used to counter piracy, as non-lethal crowd control weapons, and as communication devices. According to the manufacturer's specifications, the systems weigh from 15 to 320 pounds (6.8 to 145.1 kg) and can emit sound in a 30° beam at 2.5 kHz. LRAD systems are used by maritime, law enforcement, military and commercial security...
08:32
@TardisGuy I'm not going to do anything :(
@HackToHell: lol
@Hacktohell I have your CPUs Cousin on my desk next to my Workstation, an all in one touch running a ii x4 430U
Oh right, @JourneymanGeek ... I have a 24 inch touchscreen computer set up next to the other 2 monitors - With Synergy installed
@TardisGuy: I used to use mouse without borders between windows boxen
its synergyish, but if you run windows, its got a few advantages, like working pre login
I don't have space for more displays
08:35
Does MWB do drag and drop?
@TardisGuy you build pcs ?
@Hacktohell , ya that too.
@TardisGuy: I seem to remember it did
Does it... work on androids?
08:38
# Synergy
its Windows only, that's a bit of a problem with it
Still, I never used MWB. I suppose ill have to try it.
