Basically different providers in the US use different segments of allowed bandwidth

so you may want to do a quick google and make sure the note8 works with your provider

I'm still on 3g so I'm a little blurry on the details

Nagging doubt is that the TMobile sales guy acted like their tablets (they were selling in the store, and I'm sure they're right about those...) couldn't have regular cell phone service, but they were trying to sell them with just pure data plans. I don't know if I've figured out how to hack the system or if there's a trick I've missed.

But if I buy a phone that advertises the technology required, and I buy the service with the sim card, how can I screw it up?

@Bob So did I. But I guess you just can't write to the root, but the elevated installer can. The application can then later write to the subdirectory. Although, I would have assumed the same to be the case for ProgramFiles

Either way, xampp probably still beats having to set up Apache HTTPD and MySQL on Windows yourself

Whether it is or isn't - encouraging people to disable basic security measures doesn't really help.

The CMS I'm working with expects/supports Apache HTTPD + MySQL. You can try using anything else, but there are enough problems as it is. So I just roll with it

Last week I got an email. Someone commented on a ticket I filed on their bug tracker 8 months ago. The comment was "Do you still have this issue?" As if it was magically fixed

Turns out, yes, the issue still exists

What is the issue? Image sizes are cached in the database and never updated

So when you replace an image on your filesystem, it will always be rendered with the same old dimensions

As in, explicit width and height attributes on the img element

That exists for 8 months now

How to restore malicious file warning in Chrome?

When I download an EXE file Chrome downloads it and then tries automatically to run it, and I get the Windows UAC warning and the option to click Run or Cancel.

This is because I mistakengly (is that a word?) clicked the arrow next to an EXE file and chose to always trust this file type.

Reminder to self: It's "mistakenly" and yes it apparently is a word.

There is a redirect attack!

Once you are on the download page for the latest version http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/files/latest/download and the download count down gets to 0 seconds, you will be redirected to something like msi.sourceforgenet.com (I don't remember exact URL, and I don't have the browser history because I'm in Chrome Incognito mode).

OK, it's official now! They are infected!

You get a FileZilla_3.7.3_win32-setup file with the size of 658 KB. Repository says it's a 4.8 MB file.

Apparently this is one of those pesky ad sponsored online installers!

You can avoid it by clicking the "direct download link" right underneath it.

Or change your download mode to direct download by going to files repository and clicking on the link that says "direct download link off".

I have a router that supports 2.5ghz wlan and 5ghz wlan with 802.11N and 802.11ac protocol. I have a cheap b+g stick, would upgrading to a N or even AC capable stick offer any benefit? The router is not far from my pc so I do have full power. Just wondering if it is worth the ~40€ to change that stick.

I have a 16k DSL line, so raw bandwidth is a non issue.

@Assylum if you have a USB WLAN adapter that only does 2.4 GHz (it's not 2.5 GHz, by the way, but rather 2.4) -- as the "b+g only" implies -- upgrading to at least dual-band 802.11n will provide a significant benefit

in most urban/suburban environments, or even a rural environment with several people in the household with tech "gadgets" (bluetooth stuff, wifi stuff, miracast, etc etc), the 2.4 GHz band is going to be fairly saturated, so you may experience latency spikes and packet loss at unacceptable levels on that band

the primary benefit of moving to 802.11n or ac is moving to the relatively less-crowded 5 GHz band

there are also protocol improvements related to reliability in 802.11n and ac, but if you have a contested airspace, proto improvements won't help that much

@Assylum if you aren't currently experiencing noteworthy packet loss or ping spikes with your existing setup, upgrading will only make LAN transfers between different computers on your network faster. if you are experiencing packet loss or ping spikes, moving to 5 GHz band and a newer protocol revision could very well help

@Assylum if the minor difference in price is that big of a deal to you, you could probably get by with 802.11n, but it really depends on how severe your network impairments currently are, and what your plans for the future are

for instance if someday you moved the router to another room (or the PC) and they needed to communicate through a wall, the 802.11ac standardized beamforming stuff could be a big benefit
